Times: The Princess of Wales is the daughter King Charles never had

Prince William and Kate’s 13th wedding anniversary is coming up on Monday. Do you think we’ll get a new photo?? Hahahaha. Considering we haven’t had a verifiable sighting or a public outing from the Princess of Wales in over four months, it’s remarkable how little conversation there is about when we’ll actually see Kate and what’s going on with the Wales family. I wonder if we’ll even get the customary “the Wales marriage is totally fine, because Kate looks after the children while William is a global statesman” stories. Probably not, because that’s not their brand anymore. No more global statesmanship for Huevo! So, as the Wales marriage seems under significant strain, the British papers are leaning heavily into Kate’s relationship with her father-in-law. Kate Mansey at the Times has a new piece called “The King and I: Kate and Charles’s very special relationship.” It reads like King Charles laying down the law that there will not be a divorce. Some highlights:

Kate totally filmed the cancer announcement video & then had lunch with Charles: At that stage only a handful of people were in Kate’s circle of trust, including the BBC Studios camera crew who filmed her announcement. With such high stakes the princess had chosen to work with the team who filmed Queen Elizabeth’s Covid address to the nation. While the lunch was a private moment between the two, it is understood that for the King it was an opportunity to tell his daughter-in-law that he was “so proud” of her “courage” in speaking out.

A keen star power: On Tuesday the ever growing bond between the King and Kate became official when he appointed his “beloved daughter-in-law” a Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour. It is a unique award — this is the first time a member of the royal family has been appointed to the Companions of Honour. And it comes with historic grounding, having been founded by King George V in 1917 to recognise outstanding achievements in the arts, sciences, medicine and public service. Contemporary recipients include Paul McCartney, JK Rowling, Delia Smith and Elton John. Yet even those names would struggle to reach the star appeal that the Princess of Wales brings to the British monarchy.

Close contact: Since the princess and the King’s cancer diagnoses a Palace source says that the King has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks”… Palace sources say their conditions have brought them closer than ever.

Kate is a keen bridge: William hasn’t always followed his father’s lead, preferring to run his own office his own way. Kate, however, provides a bridge between father and son, their relationship appearing to give an insight into what sort of a father Charles might have been to a daughter.

Meghan could have been like Kate!! Without the age-old father-son dynamic with which every family is familiar Charles might have been able to be more gentle to, or at least a little less demanding of, a daughter than his sons. The same might have been true with Meghan, had the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to stick around. Charles was proud to walk Meghan down the aisle on her wedding day when her father was too ill to attend. And there was a part of Meghan’s 5am-email-energy that no doubt appealed to the hard-working King.

Charles likes that the Waleses moved to Windsor: The King is understood to be thrilled that the move to Windsor, driven in part by Kate’s desire to be closer to her and William’s family, means that he can see more of his grandchildren. In Norfolk too they can easily spend private time together if they so choose, with Kate and William’s rural retreat Anmer Hall a short walk from the big house at Sandringham.

The wedding anniversary: Monday will be the 13th anniversary not just of Kate marrying William but, as a consequence, of her joining the Firm. In royal terms she has earned her stripes. In that time Charles has been able to see his daughter-in-law’s great personal strengths, particularly when senior members of the royal family rallied around Elizabeth over the “Harry issue”. Now, with her extraordinary determination not only to bear the slings and arrows that come with the job but to bravely face her health crisis, Kate has become the daughter Charles never had.

[From The Times]

Sometimes I have these moments where a cold shiver runs down my spine and I can really feel how evil these people are. Kate was a huge part of the “Harry issue” – she and her mother were behind some of the most despicable attacks on Meghan, and Kate used her position to share her “concerns” about the color/darkness of Archie’s skin. Of course, Charles apparently had “concerns” as well, which is probably what united Kate and Charles even more. Far from calming down William, Kate has been revealed as the family sh-t-stirrer. That being said, it’s hilarious that Charles, William and Kate are all so f–king miserable right now, and that Charles has been publicly throwing his support behind Kate. I believe that Charles took over all of the messaging and comms for Will and Kate a month ago, after William’s clownish antics threatened to bring down the whole institution.

  1. Hypocrisy says:

Sounds very accurate since she is vain, rude, entitled, lazy, vindictive, racist, and an adult mean girl.. yep she sounds exactly like a daughter he would have raised.

    • Tessa says:

He could have had a daughter with Diana. Thus just reminds people that he rejected diana and wanted no more than 2 children.kate has a parent much better than Charles. Her father.

      • Surly Gale says:

IIRC Diana said Charles was (a) disappointed Harry was a boy and (b) that he had red hair. From the second he was born, Charles has not been happy about Harry.

    • I think that something horrible went on behind the scenes and the King is now trying to placate the invisible one to keep quiet. So a new useless award and let her know the King likes her.

      • Proud Mary says:

Your sentiments are spot on regarding the ulterior motives behind this stupid article. If in fact they’re so close, and she’s in fact the daughter he never had, then why has he not paid off her parent’s debts? I mean, dude’s a billionaire at least 25 times over.

      • Shawna says:

For real. Charles keeps inserting himself into her narratives, or inserting her into his narratives, so he comes across as a witness and supporter. The question is, “Why?”

      • ales says:

What if the married in commoner, desperate to be queen, did terrible things that cannot be spoken about. Many want to blame W, what if the cunning mean girl is the monster behind closed doors not W. A victim of severe abuse by a female is rarely able to expose her, the acting is so practised that the female monster has a million ways to publicly pretend to be the victim. As a victim of multiple female abusers starting with my mother, I learned that no matter how many times I tried to expose any of them and get help, I always ended up being called a liar or was accused of abusing them. Female monsters are very cunning, they are rarely caught. Publicly there is rarely an evidence of their abusive behavior, what if Louis was copying her behavior at the tennis and it was not W at all. Charles and the aristos would definitely not be embracing the exhibitionist commoner and her grifter family by choosing any of them over his family or the aristocracy. Plus no matter how many times the BM keep telling us otherwise, the three children bear absolutely no resemblence whatsoever towards W, the Windsors or the Spencers. Not defending W, but it is posible to be powerless around a very cunning female abuser, facial expressions are a common tool, it gets her empathy. The gaslighting amd manipulating is extraordinary and no one believes you. A female abuser is very dangerous the power given to her because of her fake behavior, is terrifying.

    • StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

They have nothing to write so they rehash the same word salad with different names. Kate is the sister, is the daughter he never had. Boring! She is none of that.

      • BeanieBean says:

They truly have zip-all to write about & obviously forget what they’ve written before, so they either repeat themselves or contradict themselves, or both. Sometimes they even tell on themselves, like this, ‘…the King has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks”. Yeah? Not William, her husband? Her FIL has been in closest contact?

They moved to Windsor years ago & Charles is happy so he can see his grandchildren more often? And where have been the pictures of these halcyon visits? And c’mon, Charles & Kate do not have ‘conditions’–Charles is being treated for cancer and Kate is…missing.

  2. Smart&Messy says:

I think we will get some more fawning about how William is her rock in her very private recovery from cancer (that is not there anymore, but preventative chemo is happening so we should all say she has cancer).
As for getting a new picture. ahhahaha indeed. Did they release portraits for their anniversary in previous years? There were even some years when they almost forgot to mention it on their SM, no?
The part about how close Kate and KC are might be coming from Kate and Ma to further tie Peg’s hands.

    • Lorelei says:

Didn’t they release the denim commercial video for their 10th anniversary?
I doubt we’ll see anything commemorating this crappy year, lol, but it will be interesting to see where things stand on their 15th.

      • BeanieBean says:

I remember that denim commercial one, and then there was a couple of photos one year of Kate in a floaty blue dress, with both of them working hard at appearing quite jolly.

  3. Miranda says:

…OK, but that’s not the compliment Kate Mansey thinks it is.

  4. equality says:

Did this moron seriously write this with a straight face: “Yet even those names would struggle to reach the star appeal that the Princess of Wales brings to the British monarchy.” MAYBE Kate and Charles are close or maybe this is just the stick he has found to beat Will, Meghan and Harry at the same time or is this Middleton propaganda and KC is too tired to fight? You would think Cam would though, unless she finds it amusing.

    • rosa mwemaid says:

The trouble with Harry and Meghan is they do have star quality. The Waleses couldn’t cope with it.

    • Harla A Brazen Hussy says:

Everyone of my friends and family know who Paul McCartney and Elton John are but have no idea who Kate Middleton is and would say that Diana is the Princess of Wales.

      • BeanieBean says:

Kate has more star power than a BEATLE?????? Or Elton John???? The Pinball Wizard himself??? These writers are delusional.

    • Jill in IL says:

I had the same reaction, @equality! Kate has more star power than Paul McCartney? PAUL FREAKIN’ MCCARTNEY?!? People will still be reading about, listening to and learning about Paul McCartney over 100 years from now because of his *work* that will survive him. What’s Kate got that’s going to compete with “Yesterday”? She’ll be as well known to the general public in 100 years as Queen Alexandra is today (which here in the US, would be almost not at all!).

    • Lorelei says:

I HOWLED at that line. I get that the Fail is ridiculous but that was over the top even for them!

    • Proud Mary says:

I’m actually a bit baffled by why you think the Sussexes are affected by this in anyway.

      • equality says:

Didn’t say they were affected by it. I could see it as the BM or KC thinking that it is a slap to them though.

  5. Dee(2) says:

Reading this article I could hear was that song snippet ” all that work and what did it get me 🎵”. They are miserable, you haven’t seen any of the three together in over four months and they are constantly scheming behind the scenes and in the press with or against each other. Charles knows he isn’t and will never be as well beloved as his mother, and doesn’t have an heir he can rely on. William will never be as popular and respected as his brother, and has to be in a marriage that he clearly doesn’t want to be in. And Kate is having significant health issues and her husband still doesn’t want to have anything to do with her and would get rid of her in a New York minute if he could. I’d feel bad for them if they weren’t all such horrible people.

    • Libra says:

I like your song snippet and would like to add ” I shaved my legs for this ? “.

    • Gubbinal says:

“Scrapbooks full of me in the background.” I can just imagine a “Gypsy” musical production revised to reflect the Middletons. Mama CarolE, Pippa, and that star sensation, “Baby Kate.”
Sometimes I wonder if Kate has a “trauma bond” with a narcissistic mother. Jennette McCurdy describes it well in her book.

    • Proud Mary says:

“Charles knows he isn’t and will never be as well beloved as his mother.” I believe he curses her every day for staying on the throne as long as she did. I remember an ’80s Spitting Image Skit making fun of him — the one where the Queen pretends to be dead, Charles is all frenzied, not knowing what to do, now that his time has presumably come. Then the and the rest of the family burst out laughing at him. This stuff as been under his skin for decades. But he just has such inability to make any decision that makes him even remotely as popular as his mother. For example — Camzilla.

  6. Carmen says:

What is going on with Charles? I am reading reports that he is a lot more ill than they have been letting on, and the funeral plans are being updated on a daily basis. This is according to TMZ so it could be sketchy at best.

    • Conch Call says:

Yes that is a safe assumption to make. TMZ rarely gets things wrong- even if you look at their documentary on Kate where Piers Morgan blabbed and the doc was pulled.
Kate will recover mostly alright but the story is KC

      • Carmen says:

You sure Kate will recover all right? She hasn’t shown any sign of life since December.

      • Harper says:

@Conch Call you make it sound like Fleet St. is completely incurious as to what is going on with Kate. If everyone is so sure she will be all right, then why not fill us in on what is really going on? None of this tracks with just being nervous about ascending to the throne.

      • Conch Call says:

@Carmen- fairly certain yes, based on the info I’ve heard and have been hearing since Feb. Appearance issues and managing some “interlinked” health issues before KC III deteriorated triggered a lot of this. In fact TMZ had the scoop on this way back when in March and Piers blabbed. Things and meltdowns definitely going on behind the scenes but not how we think

      • Conch call says:

@Harper- they’re not incurious, they know, she’s just not as constitutionally relevant as KC III. They know enough to know that it’s not fatal with her and since she’s not in the LoS and is the mother of the future – they aren’t going to push it (again, look to Pierce Morgan who tried) and lose access with W. Many did know what was up with h r before it was (partially) disclosed. But there’s a bigger shakeup tipped to unfold in the LoS so of course they ll be focused there.

      • Feeshalori says:

Conch Call, what did Piers Morgan blab about? Was it the racist reveal? And what was he pushing? I’m a bit confused about this.

      • Harper says:

@Conch Call thank you for your informative reply. I’m now back to wondering if Kate’s in that Swiss clinic that she was rumored to be in for treatment, and that’s why we don’t see her coming and going, which honestly fuels a lot of the “she is dead” rumors.

      • Julianna says:

The TMZ documentary was pulled because it was literally airing the day before or so prior to Khates AI cancer announcement.

Piers Morgan literally said Khate was overwhelmed and could have had a breakdown by the fact she would become qween. Khate the woman that chased after the ring for a decade despite being humiliated and cheated on. Khate the saint, who literally got her grubby hands all over QEII jewels before her body was even cold has now become SOOOoooo overwhelmed by the fact she will have her hands all over the crown jewels… yea right. Sure.

The other half of the documentary had Paul Burrell saying that the monarchy would not be able to survive if Khate wasn’t there to see it through….

    • EasternViolet says:

There was a story in the Daily Beast (CB reported on it last night I think) which basically spills all the tea about that and what type of cancer he has.

    • JEB says:

Charles must not be dying as The Royal Family just tweeted:
His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis.

To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment centre next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients. This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead.

In addition, The King and Queen will host Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan for a State Visit in June, at the request of HM Government.

      • BeanieBean says:

Ah, no, as everyone with a loved one who has died of cancer knows, just concluding that initial treatment doesn’t mean squat. You’ll feel better, eventually, and you’ll want to return to your life as well as you can, but there will be continuing tests & checkups and, unfortunately, there can be a return of the cancer in some other part of the body requiring additional treatment. All depends on the type of cancer, of course, the stage when IDd, etc.

And I hate to be morbid (but that’s the mindset I’ve been in recently, due to health concerns), but everybody dies. Charles’ cancer treatments may have weakened him in some way, maybe amplified a heart issue that had not been a problem before but now is. All kinds of things can happen. Never good to make predictions, just try to enjoy each day as it comes.

  7. Eurydice says:

Aha! I said the other day that the Grand Order of Etc. Etc. was a sign of Charles’ support for Kate and a warning to William to forget about divorce – and here it is. Of course, the story could take a 180 tomorrow, but I’ll bask in my rightness today, lol.

    • Jan says:

Charles can’t stop Cain from becoming King, and what can he say about divorce, when he married his mistress.

      • Tessa says:

Charles parents did not want him to divorce and remarry but they could not stop him

      • Eurydice says:

The RF is all about hypocrisy – Charles will say whatever he wants without a trace of shame. And sure, William can do what he wants when he’s king, but he’s not king right now. Right now, public opinion is sympathetic to Kate – the Sexy Single Global Diplomat persona got derailed by Heroically Suffering Kate and now he has to play Loyal Husband School Run Dad. He tried to throw Kate under the bus with the Frankenphoto and she came back with the cancer video. And now Charles gives a boost with the Companion Order of something something. The maneuvering is fascinating.

    • Becks1 says:

See, I think this is coming from Kate. I think this is a warning shot to William – your father loves me more than you, I’m the daughter he never had, you can never divorce me.

And if it is from charles – we are seeing more of these PR games playing out in the press which tells us that W&K are on opposing sides here.

      • Eurydice says:

Yes, I can see that “the daughter I never had” could be coming from Kate, but the Companion Order Whatsits had to come from Charles. She couldn’t just ask him for it? Or could she? This is so interesting. If Charles is on Team Kate, then who is on William’s side?

      • TigerMcQueen says:

I’m not sure what’s going on there, because Kate’s ‘the Companion Order of Whatsits Companions’ was like the least of the awards Charles could have given her, at least as a member of the royal family. There’s a reason she’s the first ‘royal’ to get that, because it’s something usually handed to accomplished civilians (and don’t get me started on how her getting it is a slap in the fact to deserving honorees).

It hasn’t been an honor given to insiders, and it’s not nearly as prestigious to said insiders as all the other grand orders Chuck just bestowed. If that makes any sense. So, on one hand, he’s awarding her, but on the other, the award itself is kind of a diss.

      • Becks1 says:

@TigerMcQueen exactly – its an award, but its almost like a consolation prize as these things go. That was what he gave her? He couldn’t come up with something better? Again – I said this in the Edward post – but we have to look at this like the royals do, not like people with commonsense do, lol. And for that – i think this is somewhat petty of Charles. He could have made her a companion of the order of the garter (I forget the official name for that) or something significant along those lines. Instead he made up this new honor where she’s a royal companion to the companions or something.

It’s like he’s doing something to keep her happy but….its the bare minimum.

      • Jais says:

It could be coming from Kate’s camp. But also it could be Charles wanting to be seen as a loving father in law. It feels kind of like the way he wants to be seen as a loving grandfather. It’s all for show. The companion of companion honor seems silly but it’s something he can point to and say but see I gave her an honour. If there ever is a divorce and it gets messy, Charles can claim that he was nothing but supportive to Kate. Anything wrong with Kate cannot be blamed on him. He wants the blame to fall solely on William and not be dragged into it.

      • Lorelei says:

@Jais, totally agree, especially with your last few sentences. Charles really only cares about optics, when it comes down to it.

This could have come from either Charles’s camp or Kate’s, but as someone else already pointed out, if it was actually true, KFC would have paid off the Middletons’ meager (to him) debts.

@Eurydice, IMO no one is really on William’s side. On a superficial level, Sophie seems to kiss his ass, but that’s only because she knows she’ll be dependent on his largesse once he’s the monarch. Zara and her Neanderthal husband seem to enjoy spending time with him, but they don’t really matter since they’re not working royals.

Jason Knauf is probably solidly on Team William, lol. But in all seriousness, it doesn’t seem like he has much family support at all. It was the biggest mistake of his life to treat his brother the way that he did. Harry could have been a genuine (and valuable) ally, but William’s ego couldn’t take it. Oh well.

    • BeanieBean says:

And I will add, Kate didn’t get a Grand Order of Something or Other, she got a specially-made-for-her Royal Companion of the Something Something of Honour. A little medal on a ribbon.

      • The Duchess says:

Precisely. It’s not like she got order of the garter or a damehood for that matter. This honour is considered scraps and has been given to her so her silence and cooperation continues. Putting her in the same league as Paul McCartney and Elton John is absolute lunacy. It’s as if they’re trolling her.

Kitty (or whichever PR corner is spearheading this) may think this is flattering on the surface, but the entirety of this just reeks of desperation. I can see Kitty going down the “I’m considered to be the daughter Charles never had” route just to stick it to Willy. We know these people love to shoot daggers through the press. Especially Willy & Keen as it appears it’s the only way these two can communicate with each other without having a punch up.

  8. MSS says:

Sounds like another puff piece. Also “5am-email-energy that no doubt appealed to the hard-working King.” I thought people complained non stop about that.

  9. KC says:

She’s more famous than Paul McCartney and Elton John? FFS. That’s just objectively not true. And I know this has been said already, but how bloody offensive to put her in the same category as people who have actually created huge bodies of creative work. I’m so embarrassed for the UK right now.

    • equality says:

Yep. She should have charged admission to her Christmas concert where she played the piano. By this logic she should have made millions. And, if she is as popular as JK Rowling, why didn’t her photo book sell millions of copies and become a movie?

    • Mslove says:

More famous than a Beatle? I rolled my eyes so hard.

    • Nene says:

Sadly KC, she’s exceedingly popular with the old ladies, housewives and old men who are the bedrock of the BRF’s most devoted following. It feels like a funhouse mirror situation to us but all over England, north and Midlands she has immense pull

      • equality says:

Not to the level of spending money and screaming with excitement at seeing her. Or apparently to the level that any of them are worried about her and sending millions of cards. The population of the UK is around 68 mil and her get well wishes are described as “thousands”. Guarantee any of the artists mentioned would have a bigger draw than that.

      • Nene says:

@Equality- sure but I mean none of the royals since Diana have been like the Beatles. Not even QE or Meghan at the height of Meghan mania in the UK achieved that because most aren’t that clued into the Royals. They’re like wallpaper.
But Kate has somehow with the best palace crack doctors in town managed a minivan majority popularity in the last year. Not Beatles fame but insane mommy pull.

      • jemmy says:

@Nene- I don’t totally agree with u re Kate’s popularity . U are correct about the demographics , with the exception being that it is mainly the white demographics of the older men & women and a proportion of the married -stay at home mums that like Kate whereas the minorities and the younger generation are more into Meghan & Harry.
Generally people are indifferent to the RF & this was even the case when QEII was alive. People are more worried about the sociopolitical & economic climate in the UK than the Windsors who seemingly have no issues.

      • Libra says:

You are right about the demographics. Even in my small town the “women who know their place” and keep their mouths shut while hubby is into “boys will be boys” antics are extolled. Add to that the reverence paid to those who have kept their girlish figures after childbirth and who stay attractive for their husband. Picture the stereotypical MAGA guy.

      • MrsH says:

Having “immense pull” with a specific segment of a demographic does not equal or come anywhere close to being on the level of a star as Paul McCartney or even Elton John. Also I’d wager that even the demographic you cited wouldn’t think she is a bigger star than Paul McCartney because most or all of them experienced Beatlemania or the lasting impact of the Beatles. There has never been and never will be Katemania nor will she have a lasting impact on anyone no matter how much the try.

      • WiththeAmerican says:

Given that this is true, she is not on par with Elton John’s fame or a Beatle. It simply shows again how insular and out of touch the RF really are. They basically have old white women in their corner. That’s not sustainable.

Elton John has international stardom. Everyone has heard of him.

I laughed out loud at their idea that Kate is so popular internationally that she is MORE popular than a Beatle. What are these people smoking.

    • Eurydice says:

Well, he didn’t say she’s more famous that Paul McCartney and Elton John. He said she brings more star power to the monarchy than they do. Which is true – they don’t bring any star power to the monarchy. And it’s true that Kate brings some bit of spark to the monarchy, but it’s in comparison to the rest of the deadly dulls, so really just meaningless.

      • Nic919 says:

If Kate even had a fraction of Diana’s star power there is no way she could be hiding from the public for this long without push back. The video was barely anything.

More popular than Charles, Camilla and William isn’t a high standard.

But real star power is not there. And it’s exactly why we know Charles was not behind this article at all. He would never approve an article saying Kate is more popular than him and the Beatles. This is a Middleton special.

  10. sevenblue says:

lol. You would think one of the richest man in the world would pay off the debt of the family of the daughter Charles never had to save her and her family from public shame. Charles’s love mean sh*t.

    • Vader says:

Lol, exactly chucky keeps declaring he loves his darling boy. I guess chuckys love language is smearing them in the press, pulling security to put them in serious danger, evicting them from their home, taking away their titles and so on. kHate should definitely be nervous.

  11. Anon says:

That article jumped the shark when they seriously tried to insinuate that Paul McCartney’s star power would struggle to reach Kate’s.

  12. Tessa says:

Treacly. She is his daughter in law not daughter. Married to his son Charles is a bad parent and with this talk sighting Meghan. He never mentions Laura his stepdaughter. I wonder what Camilla thinks of the cloying articles. I don’t think she likes Kate. Kate should be thankful she has a good father .if charles had not rejected diana he could have had a daughter. Charles should just keep quiet

    • MsIam says:

That was my thoughts, Charles actually has a step daughter but I don’t know if I’ve ever even seen her name mentioned in the same sentence as Charles. I remember reading years ago that she hated him and blamed him for her parents marriage breaking up. Any way, like others have said, Charles didn’t lift a finger to spare Kate’s parents from embarrassment over the Party Pieces collapse and he hasn’t given them even a minor title. These people play major head games with each other.

  13. Jais says:

During the Harry issue, Kate proved she was just as much a viper as the rest of the den. In a way, she actually does fit well but that’s a not compliment.

  14. Kingston says:

Look, don’t get me wrong, I love a good fairytale like anyone else does. But these stenographers! Ye gads.

Oh wait…….perhaps this is part of the bread-and-circuses phenom that’s embedded in the psyche of the plebs on Saltine Isle and so it’s the job of these stenographers and client-journalists to feed it to them.

Phew! That makes sense. Cos for a while there, reading this absolute drivel of a Grimms-esque fairytale, was vomit-inducing.

  15. rosa mwemaid says:

“beloved daughter-in-law” Said the same thing about Harry and Meghan a short time ago, if that’s his idea of love he doesn’t know what it means. Well he did say so when he talked about Diana, “whatever love is.”

  16. Sunday says:

idk, maybe the honorary appointment to the Buckingham Palace drama club or whatever consolation prize Charles gave to Kate didn’t meet her standards of a buyout. Charles certainly isn’t going to hand over another honor so he hopes these empty platitudes will satisfy for now.

or the media is bored and repeating stale nonstories just to fill the royal void.

  17. Tessa says:

Kate playing victim again. Meghan overcame slings and arrows of kates mean girl behavior. Kate has no star power. Charles ousted three people with star power Diana harry and Meghan . Oh and the queen said meghan and harry as beloved family members.

  18. Lady Digby says:

Kate will not be divorced while KC has to sign a divorce off and pay for it is my take away from all these closer than this puff pieces. However just how reassuring is that long-term for Kate? Like Lola, whatever King Willy wants King will get!

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Lady Digby, I wouldn’t align with KFC when It appears he won’t be around for very long. I would NOT want the Billy Idle back lash when KFC is no longer around.

Is any of this satire? You gotta wonder.

I’ve wondered for some time if Bone idle is simply refusing to be public. I think it’s quite possible that she’s dug her heels in and doesn’t want to work, and maybe she doesn’t want to fight a divorce. If she gets a good payout, which I think she would, she could live in peace. We’ve read that there is going to be more space made available in Adelaide Cottage, and that could be part of negotiations.

This entire thing has gone past bazaar and is now bordering on idiotic. The palace needs to be more transparent because they’ve lost the plot.

  19. Paulkid says:

Charles could have had an actual daughter, but he chose to engage in tawdry pursuits outside of his marriage.

    • Tessa says:

Diana wanted more children. She told friends she wanted 4 children. Charles complained that his second was a boy. He never talked about trying for a girl. His behavior screamed he was done with Diana and he only wanted heir and spare

  20. Amy Bee says:

So we are supposed to believe that the same man who couldn’t console his son after his mother died and was only capable of complimenting that same son through letters is close to his daughter in law? Plus I’ve noticed that some of the press who criticised Meghan for he 5am emails are now changing their tune. Now it’s a positive attribute of Meghan.

  21. Libra says:

If there are meetings between these two, and that’s a big IF, then the purpose would be to school Kate in preparation for his passing, as all attempts to teach Wm are futile.

  22. Gossipgirl says:

The only person Charles cares about is Camilla. I doubt seriously that Charles has seen or spoken to Kate since that imaginary lunch.

    • TigerMcQueen says:

I know, I literally LOL’d at the “he was so happy they moved to Windsor so he could see his grandkids more often!” As if he’s any of his own grandkids outside of holidays they’re forced to spend together.

      • WiththeAmerican says:

Yeah we all know W and K skipped the Kings Christmas lunch last Dec. W has not been seen near his father the entire year.

There’s a battle going on between William and his father and Kate has sided with Charles for protection, from what I have no idea, but strategy isn’t her strong suit.

  23. Tennyson says:

    I’ve always read that Chuck3 doesn’t eat lunch…

    • Karma D says:

I know, right? I’ve always heard that Chuck is vehemently opposed to the very idea of lunch. He only eats lunch when he has no choice and then he complains to Camilla about it.

  24. Tessa says:

I don’t think Charles spends much time with any of his grandchildren. He probably takes most interest in George. Charles made a big fuss when his first granddaughter was born but he never released a photo of just the two of them. Also in the family portrait Charles sat close to his grandsons and Charlotte was placed away on the other side. Charles is a phony. He should be bonding with his granddaughters

    • Becks1 says:

Also, we hear consistently that Charles is either at clarence house, Sandringham, or Highgrove. – at Easter he was in Windsor, while Kate and William and the children were at Anmer. He’s not like the late queen who spent every weekend at Windsor, at least based on what we’re hearing. I mean he even went to Scotland for a few weeks. So when is he spending all this time with the Wales children?

  25. Harper says:

That honor of Companion to Other More Famous And Talented People is such a joke. Charles lumped Kate in with famous commoners. I’d like to know what Kate and CarolE really thought about that one! Getting an honor that no other royal has had only means he didn’t want to give her one of the more prestigious or hallowed honors that the inbreds value. I don’t know why Charles is going to press with his regard for Kate but I did notice that how Camilla feels about Kate is not included.

  26. Jay says:

This is Charles trying to centre himself (as usual) at the expense of his son. All I can think while reading this drivel is how bad it makes TOB look – he didn’t film the video message with his wife, he wasn’t there to support her while she filmed it, and if we believe this, Charles took his daughter-in-law out to lunch afterward. Charles also supposedly visited her in the hospital, while her husband could barely manage one photo op over a week. If TOB could feel shame, this would be a great tactic.

Even if we allow that the British media lies and none of these “Kate is close to Charles” stories are true, they and the recent order of the companion (or whatever it’s called) tell us a lot about Charles and his plans. He is telegraphing loud and clear that he wants Kate to be a senior royal, even if she doesn’t exactly seem keen.

    • Duch says:

Does it though? I think it signals he sees her as a famous commoner. If he wanted her seen as a senior royal with staying power, he would have placed her in some other realm with other royals. bizarre really.

      • TigerMcQueen says:

This. That honor is not what the press is saying it is. It’s very much like the Tatler article in many ways, a veneer of praise hiding nothing but shade.

    • jemmy says:

In addition to what has been said previously about KC3’s possible motives behind awarding Kate the title, I also think that it may have been awarded to shut down the tittle tattle or calls for Kate’s parents to knighted./ ennobled as KC3 cannot grant new titles to Kate & her parents at the same time.
It’s interesting that the likes of Princess Anne, Prince Edward & Sophie were not given award even though all 3 are known to have taken on more work than Kate has since the Queen’s passing & yet Kate was given this nonsensical award.

  27. Julie says:

    Who gathers together ‘acts’ alike.

  28. aquarius64 says:

There is gossip in Greek media that Charles is more ill than reported. Talk of Menai Bridge (Charles’ funeral) also signals a new reign coming. This puff piece is image rehab for Kate, the incoming queen consort. Kate’s been outed as the royal racist and the one responsible for PhotoGate. With the Waleses’ wedding
anniversary coming up BP is signaling
William and Kate is allegedly solid despite SM speculation. Charles is telling William a divorce is out. But what does Kate win? William will still have mistresses and Kate will be expected to tolerate them, as is the custom. Rose Hansbury will still be in Kate’s face because David Rocksavage will become William’s Lord Chamberlain when he becomes king. Kate couldn’t bar Rose from the Turnip Toffs; she certainly has no power to get rid of Rose in this case. I bet Charles gave Kate that dose of reality if they had a talk. Kate doesn’t have the savvy to function in that situation; any snub to Rose will resurrect the rumors. So the marriage will continue for the sake of the monarchy, 67 million Brits and for the Commonwealth.

    • Kosteon says:

You’re right but it’s a total misnomer I read here that Will wants out of the marriage He doesn’t. She is compliant. Imagine if he ends up with a strong, confident, charismatic and potential world leader material like Meghan. He doesn’t want that.
Meghan drew crowds bigger than Michelle Obama and Mrs Obama still had her husband as President. Meghan did it on her own and has been singlehandedly building her career since Suits. And I have no doubt that she is competition for many women and people, not just Kate.

      • wisemum says:

@Kosteon- Actually William is in COMPETITION with Meghan along with being in competition with Harry.

    • Eurydice says:

What does Kate win? It depends on what she wants. She had 10 years of “courtship” to figure out that William is a cheater and she married him anyway. She’s had 13 years of marriage to see what he’s like as a husband and she’s still married to him. And we’ve had years and years of Kate-watching to see what she wants – minimum work, expensive outfits, royal jewels, general embiggening. She’ll have even more of that when she’s queen.

      • Duch says:

I think what she’s really after is the Queen Mother role. She knows Queen consort will be as awful as everything she’s gone through so far with Prince miscreant. But the QM to her son, well, THEN life will be good.

        She’s nothing if not patient.

      • Libra says:

Can you imagine Kate as a mother in law? George may have problem finding a wife, much like his father.

      • Lorelei says:

        @Duch, ITA.

I often wonder if Kate would make the same choices if she could do it all over again. I feel like there’s no way she isn’t envious of Pippa’s life. We’ll never know.

    • Gabby says:

We all know Kate doesn’t win anything of real value by staying, which is why I think something may have turned in her and SHE wants the divorce.

  29. Nerd says:

They keep saying things like this as if anyone would be envious to be able to spend time with any of these horrible people. Charles was a horrible husband to a woman who is still well respected and loved all over the world all because of Camilla who is as deplorable and selfish as they come. She admittedly wanted what Diana had because Diana was so well loved. He’s a horrible father who allowed the same awful woman to use his own grieving sons to benefit her own selfish agenda. He is a horrible FIL who was silent when his pregnant DIL was being attacked by racists within his own family and in his media friendships. He is a even worse grandfather who took away security not just from his youngest son but from his DIL and biracial grandson. He has done nothing to defend either of his grandchildren from racist attacks from anyone. It was him and Kate who had concerns for a child’s potential skin tone. Kate is also the one who allowed a racist lie to be used to demonize Meghan during her pregnancy with all three of her pregnancies, one of which resulted in a miscarriage. So yes, she is the daughter he always wanted because she is the exact result of what type of person comes from such evil people.

  30. HeatherC says:

Do the RR have this subject on their calendar, that every month on a certain day don’t forget to say that Kate is the daughter Charles never had, Charles and Wiliam are super close, and Harry sucks?

    • Interested Gawker says:

It does feel that way, doesn’t it?

    • what's inside says:

SOS, different day. Kate the Great, CEO, Kingmaker, HRH The Perfect Princess of Wales, “I am William’s wife” needs some press because William will not help her.

    • Anna says:

You forgot that Kate is the sister Harry never had.

  31. tamsin says:

I find this whole Charles and Kate closeness somewhat creepy. Furthermore, where does this put Michael Middleton, her actual father? He certainly has been reduced to a non-entity. You’d think Carole Middleton had Kate all by herself.

    • Tessa says:

That bothers me too. Kate has a father so does not need Charles calling her daughter he never had. She is married to his elder son no way shape or form like a daughter. She’s the mother of three if his grandchildren through marriage to his son. No mention of lunches with her own father.

    • Liz says:

It’s like Charles is eulogising her because he knows she’s gone. Covering himself and trying to look good.

    • Jaded says:

Michael Middleton is reportedly separated from CarolE and has a lady friend. He’s basically been written out of (or written himself out of) any press coverage.

      • Libra says:

Interesting!! So where is Michael staying? Is Carole all alone in that big Huckleberry place?

  32. Lau says:

Maybe for the 13th wedding anniversary they’ll release an official photo of the farm shop clownshow.

  33. Underhill says:

They always say that Kate is so stunningly popular. Or at least, Kate and her mother say that. It might be that it’s Kate’s disappearance that has been so stunningly popular.

    • Liz says:

So true Underhill. Her disappearance has generated far more interest than her appearances ever did.

  34. Pork Belly says:

Sounds like an obituary…that someone was forced to write under duress.

  35. Popsicle says:

Can @Conch Call or someone please tell me what Piers Morgan said in the TMZ documentary about Kate? I can’t find this info anywhere and I’m curious

  36. Monlette says:

I don’t believe for a second that Charles and Kate have a good relationship. Let’s not forget that she showed up late to his coronation, in a headband that photographs like a tiara, and let it be said it was Charles that showed up early.
They also claimed he adored Meghan, giving her the pet name “Tungsten” only for me to learn he didn’t mean that as a compliment.
No. I think Charles is furious he cant even have cancer without some pretty young thing stealing his thunder, but when hiding her away backfired, he turned to Camilla’s spin doctors and they told him to pretend there is a special bond of love between them, though I bet he is still seething and considering himself the unluckiest man who was ever born.

    • Lorelei says:

      @Monlette,

“I think Charles is furious he cant even have cancer without some pretty young thing stealing his thunder”

      I lol’d, but it’s funny because it’s so true!

    • Carrie says:

Agree with all you have said apart from the “pretty” and “young” bits. Haggard and middle aged surely captures Kkkate better and is way more accurate no?

  37. therese says:

Charles has another daughter. Her name is Meghan. As far as Kate goes, it is a case of having to make do with what you have. Kate is make do. And as far as these write ups go, my goodness. It’s easy to see why Fergie followed suit and went into writing fiction.

  38. Jaded says:

R U effing kidding me? “…Contemporary recipients include Paul McCartney, JK Rowling, Delia Smith and Elton John. Yet even those names would struggle to reach the star appeal that the Princess of Wales brings to the British monarchy.”

Those celebrities do NOT struggle to reach any star appeal on the entire planet, they ARE the star appeal, and it’s an insult to compare them to Kate in this piece of trash. She is a nothingburger and nowhere close to these deserving people. Why did she get this undeserved order? Why all these useless puff pieces now? What’s going on? She’s been MIA for 4 months with little to explain her circumstances other than some fakakta fake photos and videos. This is KCIII rewarding her for keeping schtum about whatever disaster went down with Willbur and their shambles of a marriage just like she was rewarded for not blowing the lid off the Rose Hanbury debacle.

  39. Isabella says:

Can’t believe they’re pretending Charles was always kind to Meghan & they could’ve had it all. He forbid her to accompany her own husband to Balmoral when the queen was dying. And he let the whole world know it was because he didn’t want her there. She was royally snubbed at the funeral, which is one of the coldest things I’ve ever seen. What kind of family does that?

  40. Liz says:

It’s a shame he didn’t treat Earl Spencer’s daughter better – she might still be here

  41. tamsin says:

Remember the story about Carole being a better mother to William than Diana? This just keeps getting creepier. Carole and Charles parenting the Waleses.

  42. Karlosa says:

@JeB I wouldn’t read much into that. What else will they say? They obfuscate all the time but unofficially most news leaks through back channels that he may not be at death’s door but he’s much sicker than reported

    • JEB says:

Maybe sicker than letting on but not dying? I actually kind of took it as a reminder to/shot at William and/or Kate to get back to work! If the old, sick King can go back to “work” what’s their problem, especially Huevo!
I still think *something* so bad happened that Kate cannot show her face/body or she’s in some fancy clinic for treatment for any number of issues. 🤷‍♀️

      • Nene says:

@JEB- actually pretty sick and at the end of his tether but carrying on till he can and also not trying to alarm people here- ‘cuz everyone here has been FREAKED out about him. We won’t know till it actually happens but TQ was swearing in Liz Truss in her last week. Also shaming the do-littles perhaps but behind the scenes.

      • Feeshalori says:

Yes, l wouldn’t put any optimistic spin on this announcement and his appearances. He can still be seriously ill but show himself like his mother did two days prior to her death. He’s just carrying on and giving a masterclass to KP on how it’s done.

  43. Nene says:

Knowing Charles he ll probably work to his last days though

  44. BeanieBean says:

Gah! ‘Without the age-old father-son dynamic with which every family is familiar Charles might have been able to be more gentle to, or at least a little less demanding of, a daughter than his sons.’ So many sexist tropes in one sentence!

  45. QuiteContrary says:

I’m kind of glad Diana and Charles didn’t have more children, what with Charles’ creepy friends (like Jimmy Savile) hanging around.

And this tripe is just silly. Charles doesn’t love anyone, least of all his commoner daughter-in-law, even if she is white. He doesn’t have the capacity to love.

  46. Tessa says:

William allegedly called michael middleton dad.

  47. ennie says:

Well, it is not a huge achievemwnt since he was/is an awful absent father physically and emotionally. He us much closer to his plants, as he was foraging for mushrooms instead of being near his dying mom.
His children would’ve been shipoed to boarding schools much sooner if it weren’t for Diana.

  48. Courtney says:

“The same might have been true with Meghan, had the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to stick around.” Gee, I WONDER WHY THEY DECIDED NOT TO STICK AROUND? This whole family is just an exercise is cowardice.

  49. Advisor2u says:

My take on this very public Charles and Kitty fake love fest that’s been going on for sometimes now:

Willy wants out of the marriage for a long time – separation happened almost 1.5 years ago. Entered the second stage – device filling, which I think was presented to Ketty around last Christmas; Willy wants the divorce now, but doesn’t have all the cash money yet to pay for the deforce settlement, and Kitty and the Middletons are playing it hard. Chucky is the only family member with enough money to help Willy out, but he is not happy with a divorce at this moment, because it will overshadow his reign – people will be reminded of the War of The Waleses with this 2.0 version of events that can take years of negative media coverage around the RF, with Kitty likely to take all the sympathy-attention, the sympathy, time and the spotlight Chucky needs for himself (and Camilla) dearly to establish his reign further.

To please Kitty (and to anger Willy even more) he gave her this useless honour that looks like something great, but until now, was reserved for commoners, not royals.

    So why this lower honour?
Chucky is making sure not to give her worthy stuff that she can rely or bank on when the divorce eventually happens. Chucky always operates in a way that benefits him and him alone.

  50. Unblinkered says:

I don’t believe for one minute that Charles is fond of KM let alone ‘the daughter he never had’.
All the royal reporters in the absence of any hard facts, since last year, are just spinning yarns. They have to write something, it’s their raison d’etre, hence all this waffle. Ignore.
