George Michael to star in US Sitcom

George Michael is said to be facing jail time in the UK after he pled guilty to his second case of being caught passed out with drugs in his car. That’s not stopping him from making plans for his career, though.

He’s scheduled to tour Europe starting June 9th, and has now revealed that he has an upcoming role starring in a US-based sitcom, opposite Angelina Jolie’s first husband, British actor Jonny Lee Miller:

George Michael has revealed he’s starring in a new American TV sit-com with Trainspotting star Johnny Lee Miller.

The singer has no previous acting experience (unless you count the odd Wham! video) but has signed up to the new series as part of a hectic upcoming schedule.

He says, “I’m going to have the most phenomenal year – even though there are people who’d like me to experience a tough time.

“There’s an American tour planned and I’m starring in a big US comedy drama called Ellie Stone with Johnny Lee Miller. The writers want to name each episode after my songs.”

While there’s no television show “Ellie Stone” om IMDB, there is one called “Eli Stone.” There’s not a lot of information about it, and Michael is not listed among the cast, which seems to be ranked in alphabetical order rather than by who is starring. The plot outine says it’s “A legal drama centered on a lawyer (Miller) who begins to think he might be a prophet.”

The show does exist, but IMDB says it’s a drama, not a sitcom. This could be true the Michael said he’s set to star in a “big US comedy drama” but this is the only place I’ve read the news and we’ll have to see if it’s true. He doesn’t have any acting experience that I could find, and I wonder if he can pull it off.
