Angelina Jolie was just officially Dame’d by Queen Elizabeth: OMG?!

wenn21815445

Back in June of this year, Angelina Jolie hosted the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in London. It was a high-profile event which drew wide media attention and raised awareness to vital issues like war-time rape and sexual assault in conflict zones. In the middle of the summit, the announcement came: Queen Elizabeth was anointing Angelina with a “Dame” title. To be more specific, Angelina became an honorary Dame Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George for extraordinary service to U.K. foreign policy. The Queen gave Angelina the title on the recommendation of William Hague. At the time, Angelina met with Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, and I thought that was as good as it was going to get. BUT NO. Today, Angelina went to London to receive her honorary title from the Queen.

Angelina Jolie, the Oscar-winning actress, has been made an honorary dame by the Queen for her campaigning work fighting sexual violence and for services to UK foreign policy. The film star, best known for her role in Hollywood blockbuster Tomb Raider, was presented with the award during a private audience with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Jolie was recognised in the Diplomatic Service and Overseas Birthday 2014 Honours list and received the honorary damehood (DCMG) for services to UK foreign policy and the campaign to end war-zone sexual violence. During the audience, the Queen presented the actress with the insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George. As a foreign citizen Jolie, the co-founder of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative PVSI, cannot be addressed as Dame, but receives the award on an honorary basis.

The award was first announced in June during the week when Jolie was co-chairing the End Sexual Violence in Conflict (ESVC) global summit in London with then foreign secretary William Hague.

She said at the time: “To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to. Working on PVSI and with survivors of rape is an honour in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine.”

Her work as a committed humanitarian runs parallel to her career as a leading actress who has been a huge box office draw for more than a decade. The 39-year-old star has been described by US Secretary of State John Kerry as a “fierce and fearless advocate” and he said her dedication to campaigning could overtake her successful film career as her lasting legacy.

[From The Telegraph]

You know what I love? I love that Angelina couldn’t get away from the Maltese film production to go to George Clooney’s wedding in Venice, but she managed to find the time to fly to London for a one-on-one with the Queen. Dear Angelina: you are perfection!!! She totally curtsied to the Queen too. As one does.

UPDATE: I just added better quality photos! And everyone’s saying Brad Pitt and the kids were at the Palace too!

She so deserves it. This makes me happy. And she’ll win the Nobel someday, I’m pretty sure.

    • Brin says:

Outstanding! There is nothing like a Dame Jolie!

    • Ollyholly says:

A Nobel? Are you serious? No

      • Em says:

        I know, right?

      • Lucinda says:

Actually, probably if she keeps going on this path. She is doing a lot of work for humanitarian causes and bringing a lot of much-needed attention to sexual crimes against women worldwide. Maybe someday stopping the trafficking of women will be as important as stopping movie piracy. We can hope. We can hope.

      • Rae says:

Why not? Putin was nominated for a Nobel ffs.

      • FLORC says:

Why do people say “I know, right?”? Honest question because it just seems wrong.
You’re agreeing with someone and then asking them if it’s correct to agree with them? Or that you need to confirm that what you’re both agreeing on is correct? If the latter then why ask the person making the claim to 2nd guess their own claim?

        It just doesn’t makes sense.

And no reason why she can’t be nominated. She’s already done far more than most people that get nominations. And Putin. ffs is right. The link won’t go, but just search a list of nobel noms and winners. And who should not have been given such an honor.

      • MariPoodle says:

Give it another 10 or 20 years. If you looked back at her 10 or 20 years ago who would have predicted she would be where she is now? Girl writes her own story.
When all is said and done it will be an interesting biography.
Oh, crap I’m older than she is. Well, I hope someone writes it before I kick off. It would be a fab summer read. Drama, intrigue, worthy causes, international glamour, heads of state, family, more family and fashion to die for.
        What’s not to love?

*Goes off to look up that suit*

      • Artimis says:

Quite. The whole thing is effing joke.

    • Frida_K says:

I agree with you–one day, yes, she will be awarded the Nobel.

What an amazing woman she is, and such a shining example of goodness, decency, and service she provides.

      • Chris2 says:

        Hooray huzzah yippee brava!
What a joy, well done Angelina, enjoy damehood. Gosh I bet the children are hysterical, wondering does she get to carry a sword?
Well this made my week. 🙂

      • Amberr says:

Yes she is and even she can manage to cover her knees for the Queen, why can’t Princess Middleton ???!

      • FLORC says:

I love that she wore some color. Not overwhelming and stealing focus from the Queen, but appropriate and lovely.

    • Steph says:

      Agree, +1000

    • Lauren says:

She deserves it… She raises attention to so many important topics: breast cancer and precautionary removal of breast tissue, gender identity in kids and letting them be themselves with Shiloh, adoption, depression (as a teen) and recovery, her humanitarian work,…
If there’s any celebrity who deseves to be called a Dame it’s Angelina Jolie!

      • betha says:

She’s got it, whether or not she deserves it. No Takesies backs. So Dame Jolie-Pitt at your service.

I’m happy for her family. This is quite an honor for the kids to share with her.

    • MsGoblin says:

      OMG, that suit is perfection!

Oh, and the honor is nice, too…

    • mandygirl says:

She should win the Nobel. She does so much good. This article made me happy.

    • DrM says:

I am SO happy for her! 🙂 It is hard earned and well deserved.

    • Fue McCormick says:

This is certainly an honor for AJ but she is an American and it’s an “honorary” title which is kind of funny …
As an American I find it weird that we successfully got rid of the British Rule over 200 years ago and rich Americans (and those obsessed with being a Princess/Duchess) still moon over the idea.
I once had a conversation with my Dad over whether or not I would curtsy to the Queen. My Dad said he had great respect for the “position” and that he would bow (but this could be because his Dad was British before escaping to America.)
I would shake her hand but not bow. I don’t have a Queen.

  2. Toot says:

So happy for Angelina! Brad and the kids were with her.

    • Chris2 says:

Yep it says in the Guardian that Brad and the children all met the Q afterwards.
      What larks! 🙂

      • zut alors! says:

What a wonderful memory for the kids to have and appreciate when they get older. Not everyone has the opportunity to meet the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

  3. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

It’s times like this when I know that I’m a total Brangeloonie–when I saw the headline, an unholy, indescribable sound came out of my throat–and now I am just giggling like a mad person. Angelina AND Malala at the same time! WTF?

And I LOVE her suit. I noticed, after looking at some red carpet/premiere pics of Angelina, that she tends to wear a lot more color in the ‘smaller’ premieres/red carpets than the big ones.

    • DCJ says:

I love that she maintains such a conservative wardrobe for this part of her working life. She always looks so dignified.

      • Chris2 says:

I totally agree with you, and she looks just spot on here, exactly what the occasion called for.
Don’t want to make invidious comparisons with other celebs, but AJ’s taste is imo refreshing, none of the ubiquitous striving after youth trends.. As you say, she looks dignified.

      • bluhare says:

        Her hair!!!! Lovely.

      • Lexie says:

She looks the part. All the other women trying to look too young or sexy or trendy should learn from her example.

      • Sea Dragon says:

Absolutely. She walks, talks and dresses with dignity and she acts the part in real-world ways. Methinks if anyone deserves the title, it’s AJ.

    • Rae says:

And after the ceremony, the Queen took Angelina aside and asked her to take Duchess Kate under her wing and teach her how to dress appropriately for the occasion.

      • xpreson says:

Well, Angelina doesn’t dress and style herself that great all the time. That “all black” style she has is so gloom it drains her. She did look great here today though.

      • MariPoodle says:

        To Xpreson:

I think Dame Jolie’s “all black” wardrobe is her getting from point A to Point B and needing to throw on some clothes. It’s the equivalent of when you and I throw on sweats and *shudder* are seen buying groceries or walking the dog.
Sometimes you just want to mindlessly put something on and do your chores. I believe she’s even mentioned the “all black” thing is so everything matches. It humanizes her. Actually I think it’s clever. I wouldn’t work with “all blue” for example because you’d have all these weird blues and she’d look like a cult member.
And no one criticizes all the folks working in the fashion industry (make up artists, hair dressers, designers etc. etc. for wearing utilitarian ‘all black’)

    • Sara says:

      Yes, beautiful suit.

  4. Tristan says:

I suspect the Queen was as thrilled to meet her as she must have been to meet the Queen

    • SnarkGirl says:

From the looks they’re exchanging in the handshake photo, I’d say so! 🙂

    • kaligula says:

      I think you’re right….

    • FLORC says:

I was thinking the same. I’d be so giddy and fangirling.

    • Chris2 says:

      I think I have a good plan…. Dame Angelina
(I’ll use the title as it tickles me) gets on with Camilla, and doubtless Chazza too….so I’d like Maddox to spend summer at Highgrove…..possibly seeing his “English lady friend” sometimes, but learning all about organic gardening and farming, and about all kinds of follies, pagodas and whatnots to dot around the Miraval acres. Pax would be at nearby Daylesford Organic perfecting his cake making and helping in the shop, to the delight of the customers. The Empress would work in the Highgrove shop, recently refurbished by Camilla’s sister, but surely ripe for a *really* regal makeover, and Zahara would get her way. Out with tartan, in with leopardskin velvet tea cosies, and fuchsia corgi coats.
The twins are really too young but perhaps Shiloh could spend her summer close by with Zara and Mike, training their baby to ride a horse like an Amazon? Or if not a horse, then at least a motorcycle.
      🙂
      🙂

    • K says:

I thought that! The Queen loves herself a bit of pop culture, and she’s famously savvy politically, so she probably was all, “okay, I’ll take this myself, thanks” when her grandsons were volunteering. Which I bet they did.

I really like what we know of the Jolie-Pitts. They don’t need to work as hard as they do for people with less than they have, but they do it just the same. I’m glad she was recognised today. Malala’s already used up all my squees for one day, but this made me smile, and big. A friend works for an NGO and she says such nice things about AJ, and apparently most celebrity “helpers” are endured for the publicity, while an actual pain in the backside. The way AJ is when working for an aid project is seemingly rare. I’m glad she’s getting recognition.

    • Rosalee says:

The Queen was awestruck by that amazing face – yes, the Dame is beautiful, dedicated and focused on bringing issues often ignored by the mainstream media to the forefront. Glad to see she uses her celebrity to shine the spotlight on the plight of refuges and the vile use of rape as a weapon.

  5. Greata says:

    Yeah Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. K says:

I’m pretty sure they weren’t invited. Brad and George haven’t worked together in ages and they’ve even said they’re only work buddies. But good for her! She’s bringing a lot of awareness to so many causes and it’s very inspiring! I love her little curtsie!

    • Congrats! says:

Regardless, two weeks makes a huge difference on a film production and two trips away may not have feasible. Of the two events, this is clearly more important and the JPs have already seen Venice. When would they ever be able to take the kids to see the Queen… WOW- more for history than royalty, IMO- ROYALTY…just flashed to Maleficent’s christening monologue…Angie is so talented!!! UK press says that Angie is the youngest ever to receive this honor as well the only American woman.

      • K says:

Regardless? There wouldn’t be two trips because they were obviously not invited to the wedding. Like it matters. They’re not friends. George wasn’t invited to their wedding either. I wouldn’t invite people from work to my wedding (especially ones I barely speak to) because that would be weird. We don’t know each other. We’re not friends, we’re colleagues. It’s the same here. Brad and George have said themselves that they’re only work friends but the tabloids wants to portray this bromance when they both, honestly, live entirely different lives.

      • Andrea1 says:

        @Congrats +1000000 to your comment

      • Onthedownlow says:

Congrats to Angie, she deserves it.
Maybe Brad was invited but didn’t want to attend that farce of a wedding.

Though George has said many times in the past that he and Brad were friends. In an interview with Esquire I believe that’s the mag, he said they were friends but it’s not what everyone thinks. He said they rode motorcycles together and Brad has visited his home in Como. That was 2012. In another interview he said he was happy to call Brad his friend. So maybe once they were close or friends but today they no longer have the relationship they used to. Maybe George believe they are still friends why Brad is like..whatever.

Hey I have friends I haven’t seen in years due to just growing apart or distance.

    • cat says:

George was quoted as calling Brad *unreachable* recently. That alone sort of signaled they were not friends – and Brad had to answer as to what George meant by that. I cannot remember his response!

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Haha, maybe George DID invite them, and he’s pissed that they didn’t RSVP……

    • delorb says:

Whether they’re close friends or not, whether they were invited or not, the media circus was already huge. I don’t think adding someone just as big to the mix would have been a great idea.

Congrats to her for this. She has worked hard for women in crisis.

  7. Abbott says:

“best known for her role in Hollywood blockbuster Tomb Raider”???!??!!

    • Jaderu says:

      I know right? LOL
“Said the Queen of England, best known for her promotion of all things Corgi.”

      • MariPoodle says:

OMG you just killed me. I die. I’m on the floor. I’m one with the floorboards.
        (dog fan)

    • Sayrah says:

Lol, tomb raider? Ok. This is amazing. Well deserved!

    • Pandy says:

I know! I’m thinking, she won an Oscar and has started directing her second film and this is the best they can come up with?

      • Tammy says:

I haven’t seen most of Angelina Jolie’s films but Tomb Raider I did see and she was awesome in it. Maybe they went the film that most people have seen?

    • Gina says:

Oh congrats to the Dame! Hmm, wonder if the Queen knew she wrote Johnny Lee Miller’s name on her wedding gown in her own blood in the belief he would never leave her. I know, youth are always forgiven for their ill-advised actions as goth queens. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me…almost as though the song was written for her as she is so saint like now.

      • Snowangel says:

I did not know that little tidbit about writing his name in blood. Now I am thinking about all the kids artwork on her latest wedding dress……….same reason?

      • Mr and Mrs Smith says:

That’s not very christian like of you. Isn’t it always amazing how church going people are the ones who are the most judgmental?

      • Gina says:

Calm down Mr and Mrs Smith…really you took that name? Funny. Go trace her forehead vein…jk….but star f’ers never cease to amaze me. She pees just like us, although in your eyes, it’s probably perfume.

      • Gina says:

@ Snow Angel: There are a myriad of Angelina and her blood escapades. She was a cutter. Read up on her, she was a very disturbed young woman. Amazing the transformation for those who believe there was one. But with that being said, I always feel pity for Amanda Bynes so I should do the same for Mrs. Pitt.

      • darkdove says:

Angelina doesn`t need or want you to have pity on her

those who are less will always be jealous of those who are more
congratulations to Angelina she deserves all her awards.

      • Candy Love says:

Gina what would a AJ post be with out you and please post the pictures or link the article were this story comes from, interview or video of her talking about this.

I’m guess your one of those who doesn’t believe she turned her life around right 😀

      • Mr and Mrs Smith says:

Um, Gina, was there anything in my previous post that indicated I wasn’t calm? Huh? I’m reminded of the pharisees in the Bible when I look at your posts. So sad. I think the pity you are feeling is directed at your own life. So sad. Hope you feel better soon.

      • Jessica says:

@Gina You call her crazy but it doesn’t even sound like a sane person wrote this post. It’s so over top, LOL

      • Gina says:

There’s no space to reply to replies, so I’ll give you girls my response down here! Firstly, I am entitled to my opinion as you all are to yours….Secondly, M&MSmith: No, I’m not sad, have a full life, just enjoy blogs. I was thinking you were an older gal feeling the need to defend a movie star. Thirdly, Candy Love: I worry about your grammar, but I digress. Dame Angie’s dark past is public knowledge, so I encourage you, if you so desire, to do your research. Lastly, darkdove, your name speaks volumes as does your writing style. Jealously is a weapon women use that has no basis in fact. I have no positive feelings for a woman who uses a baby (Maddox) to lure a man who has baby fever and is known for her sexuality. It didn’t work on Colin and others, so she moved to Pitt who is no prize himself, with poor hygiene, love of pot and past his prime. Idolize whom you please, but please don’t try to force feed her on everyone. To whomever suggested I post on a regular basis, true for this week, but before that never….and in the future who knows?

      • darkdove says:

I said my peace but you keep ranting if it helps you.

if Pitt is no prize why the anger, your need to reasure a stranger what a full life you live also speaks volumes of you. I would think it must be tiresome of those who are close to you to be near you as you dont forgive and trow their past back at them.

      • K says:

I don’t get this comment. I’m not even a massive fan of them (never seen a film she’s in, unless Mr & Mrs Smith on the telly counts, and other than Thelma & Louise, Fight Club and Seven I don’t remember anything Pitt’s been in, either) and I like Jennifer Aniston, and think it’s pretty obvious that marriage ended when and because Brangelina began, too. But AJ does good work for some of the most vulnerable people in the world, and surely that matters more than a decade old scandal? Or other choices she made when younger, which hurt nobody but herself?

And if you’re shading someone for having had mental health problems, which your comments imply she once did, then I am *definitely* side-eying you. Would you sneer at and judge someone with cancer? How is it any different? If she struggled when younger then I’m really happy that she seems well and healthy now. And I’m glad she’s using her fame to help other people. That’s really nice.

    • Boxy Lady says:

That part sounds so reductive in comparison with the rest of the article.

  8. bns says:

Um, obviously being Dame’d > a wedding. And they probably weren’t invited to the wedding, anyway.

  9. Vava says:

    Awesome. She is wonderful.

  10. Jaderu says:

    Go Angie!

  11. CandyKay says:

She looks fantastic. Absolutely the right outfit, hairstyle and make-up for the occasion. Gorgeous yet serious. Glamorous yet demure.

Looking forward to seeing when Jennifer Anniston gets her official British honor.

    • Enough Already says:

Please don’t ruin this post by making it a Jolie – Aniston stand off.

      • DCJ says:

I agree, plus it is so reductive to both women. As if their value exists only in comparison to each other.

      • Andrea1 says:

        Exactly!
Please don’t start the crazy else it will get ugly.

      • Angie says:

Plus, everyone knows, thanks to a tabloid that will remain nameless, that the true rivalry is between international UN hero Angie and international law hero Amal. Which one of them, along with their humble consorts, will win the title of International Unbelievably Special Humanitarian Power Couple of the Universe? Enquiring minds want to know.

    • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

The Queen’s eyes reveal that she really wants to skip all this, and simply hang in Cabo getting bikini waxes, applying aveeno, and sipping smart water with Jen while Justin frolicks in the salon with Jefe. And, since both are dog lovers, both Windsor and Aniston could bring their corgi’s too.

    • Lola says:

Honestly, I hate that every Jolie post needs a “but she’s a home wrecker” line. But if Aniston has to be remembered at every Jolie post so be it!
I was actually thinking the same, let’s wait for the moment Aniston actually does something for someone else and is given recognition for it.

    • Sara says:

Haha That is so mean. I kind of feel bad for Aniston in light of all this. She was dumped for a woman who has now become a dame. That’s not easy for anyone to deal with.

    • FLORC says:

LA-la-la-la I didn’t read that! All about Jolie and no one else la-la-la…

    • delorb says:

And there it is. In an article that is celebrating Angie for what she’s done, people will always bring up this fighting over a man crap. Jeez.

  12. kim says:

Congrats to Angie being made Honorary Dame by the Queen!!!!
What an accomplishment and honor indeed ….So proud of Angelina!!!!
She looks regal in a simple suit…love her hairstyle…
I read some other articles that Brad and the children were also there…
Too bad there wereno pics taken of Brad and Angie at the event….:(

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2788029/angelina-jolie-meets-queen-buckingham-palace-officially-receive-honorary-damehood.html

    • TC says:

kim – Thanks for providing the Daily Mail link. LOVE the photos. There’s one in particular of Brad and Angie (kids were there too but not pictured) arriving in London for the honor and Brad’s wearing a t-shirt with a drawing of Maleficent — no doubt the work of one of his kids. Adorable. 🙂

  13. Ennie says:

TNX! What a beautiful set of pictures! She looks very happy to be honored, well, her work deserves it, and I am happy that she was pitching for Malala getting the Nobel prize and she got it, so, in a way, it is one more motive to be happy for women’s plight for safety and education everywhere.
    ….
I think they were probably rushing with the movie production to get the free time to go to London. That wedding as a whole production, and they have to move with children and all that, easier not to go and let the bride and groom enjoy the undivided attention.

    • wolfpup says:

I’d like to see a photo of Angie standing next to Amal, and then we could make a real judgment between the two. In my opinion, that’s the *real* reason the Pitts were not at the Clooney wedding.

It’s wonderful for Angie, that she has an international family group…but I’m still ho hum on her posing here and there, and receiving acclaim for doing nothing more than showing up. I may be ignorant of other qualities she has, other than beauty and celebrity and an appears sympathetic. Who sees anything other than a sympathetic and beautiful white woman in a sea of war? There are just so many more people who actually *do* something other than mesmerize.

      • norah says:

not everything has to be analysed to death – funny how everything that angelina or brad do or say is examined in minute detail while others who do stuff deemed vulgar and tacky and just stupid are just given a pass. AJ is there because the queen deemed her and her work to be impt enough to be given this wonderful honour and she represents a lot of things to many pple – so for u to once again shade angelina on receiving this honour is not very nice at all. U dont get these honours just by looking pretty and showing up – u do work and hard work at that something the queen knows far too well. do you think pple like john kerry or hague or any other un official who have spent years doing their jobs wd waste time with aj if she wasnt doing the work or doing it well – at least aj has tried to make a difference and i am personally delighted that the damehood was given to her.

      • wolfpup says:

Oh, please Norah, this is the first time I’ve ever commented about Angie. I am always suspicious of someone whose narrative is so consistently angelic; just as you have the right to a wholehearted belief in it. I call it publicity: you call it real life…to each their own.

  14. Hissyfit says:

Awesome! I read somewhere that Pitt and their kids were there as well. The skirt suit would’ve looked lovelier if it was a little shorter but strange enough, she pulls off the matronly look very well.

As for the wedding, I highly doubt they were invited. Why would George want to share the attention? They are trying to be the next Brangelina power couple. Amalooney can’t do that if the real thing is there with them. Lol.

  15. laprincesita says:

Yay! Dame Angelina! you’re perfection indeed!

  16. redvixen says:

She is proof that one can learn and grow from mistakes made in youth. She has owned to her mistakes.
    I so love her.

    • Jag says:

      +1000000000

    • Jamie says:

      Exactly.

    • pk says:

      Couldn’t agree more.

    • wolfpup says:

Good for Angie, she is lovely; apparently Hague thought so in the fact that he recommended her. The Queen wouldn’t have had the idea; though it does give the royals some reason to be in the news.

Sorry folks, but I have never, ever been able to hero-worship from afar – excepting for President Obama. He has done so much; except he is not a woman, and he is black. Angie is a celebrity, and not even close to Obama’s stature as a human being (though he would never say so). The Queen often honors celebrities. Yeah.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Did you read the thread when it was first announced that she’d get the (honorary) honor? A thousand people are honored every year–the celebs are the ones who get the most press. And the Queen gave it to her for her work in documenting rape in warzones—which has been ongoing for years…started with her movie, In the Land of Blood and Honey….which William Hague saw, and it inspired him to team up with her and actual start documenting the rape that occurs during war, and prosecuting it, instead of collectively shrugging our shoulders about it and stating “that’s what happens during war”, and ignoring it. That’s a pretty big deal.

    • Sara says:

      True…it is quite remarkable.

  17. celine says:

So proud to be a fan. I am so happy for Angelina and her family. Imsgine they all got to meet the Queen if England. Wonder whst she thought of meeting Brad Pitt.

  18. Itsnotthatserious says:

The fact that they were able to do this with no media build up and cameras waiting at the gate, then leave to Buckingham palace to make the announcement and release the pictures is a lesson that less is more.

Clooney who seems to be on a quest to be like her might want to learn a thing or two about being understated. And yes Kaiser, she is perfection .

    • BlueeJay says:

This is because the palace demands certain things and keeps control on the press. I read in another article that no advance notice was allowed by the palace. Notice that although Brad and kids where in the palace with the queen later there are not pictures. I am sure this is not because of angie and brad but because of the royal demand.

      • Itsnotthatserious says:

My point is that her people could have leaked the information but they didn’t , the palace can’t control how they manage their press, a lot of celebrities would have tipped People mag or some other mag. I know Clooney would have.

  19. OhDear says:

I thought they were fist bumping in the first picture, lol.

    Congrats to (honorary) Dame Angelina!

  20. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Question: I noticed that she isn’t wearing her engagement ring–just a wedding band (at least in the pics at the Dailymail). I thought you were supposed to wear both, or is that just something that is up for personal debate? My mom has a ring similar to Angelina’s–but that’s the ring she got married in, she doesn’t have a wedding band at all.

I wonder if she’ll just wear her engagement ring for special occasions? I swear, if I was rich and married, I’d have an engagement ring (diamond, ruby, pearl, opal, emerald, saphire, et al) that would match every outfit and wedding band that I had….haha.

    • Maya says:

@VG: if you have noticed Angelina never wears her engagement ring whenever she does humanitarian work.

This medal and recognition is for her humanitarian work so I think that is why she didn’t wear that Dimon’s engagement ring.

Angelina knows what to wear for each occasion.

    • Algernon says:

I think it’s a personal decision these days. For most of my life, my mom wore both her engagement and wedding rings, but for their 35th anniversary my dad gave her a new band, and now she just wears that. I have a lot of friends who only wear their bands, too, on a daily basis and bring out the engagement ring when they’re dressing up.

I noticed the lack of engagement ring, too, and wondered if it’s because her engagement ring is quite substantial and maybe she didn’t want to wear that much bling into the palace. She’s dressed business/professional, maybe she didn’t think both rings were appropriate.

    • MrsB says:

My sister’s engagement (and wedding) ring is an old family ring from her husband’s side of the family, and it is HUGE and gorgeous. She feels really uncomfortable wearing it, so she bought a simple replacement band with no diamonds and usually just wears that except for special occasions. I don’t really understand it…if I had her ring, I would never take it off. But to each their own I guess.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

IKR! If I had a giant Taylor-Burton diamond ring, I’d never take the sucker off! When I was younger, I got some jewelry from my grandma–a pearl necklace that belonged to her mother….I used to wear it all the time, no matter what I was wearing (until my little brother ripped it off of my neck for no reason).

    • feebee says:

A lot of woman don’t wear their engagement rings on a daily basis esp if they’re on the big side. That’s why you see (or maybe not) but many woman wear their wedding ring inside their engagement ring.

    • Lexie says:

In some circles (I’d imagine the English aristocracy is a prime example) it’s considered unrefined to wear large pieces of jewelry during the day. The old “no diamonds before 5pm” rules still apply and in general one sticks out if they have a huge piece of jewelry on.

I think Duchess Kate gets away with her engagement ring because the main stone is a sapphire, rather than a diamond.

And yes, it’s acceptable for a married woman to wear just her wedding band. She can combine her rings or wear them in whatever way she chooses.

I thought it particularly savvy of Angelina not to wear her engagement ring. It shows that she dressed for the company she was about to enter and such things don’t go unnoticed by people like QE.

      • Katherine says:

That’s the general rule everywhere. That’s why flashier gems are called dinner rings. It used to be even the very wealthy did not wear huge engagement rings – they were something you could wear in the day but nowadays every bride to be has to have some huge ass stone (never mind the quality) bigger than her sorority sister’s.

    • Ag-UK says:

A lot ofmpeople put engagement ring on the right hand and wear the band in the left.
Good dr her but can’t cLl herself a Dame as she isn’t British same as Steven Spielberg .

  21. joy says:

I love how she dressed so perfectly for this. Plenty of others stars would have looked a mess, but she’s spot on. Appropriate, classy, perfect styling.

  22. BeckyR says:

This is a well deserved honor, Angelina!

  23. HBIC says:

    Love her! Congrats to Angie.

  24. Andrea1 says:

    Congrats Angie
    Its a well deserved honour!

  25. Sara says:

alright alright, someone will have to be the party pooper and i’ll volunteer.

i admire Angelina for her charity work, but i dont know why we still celebrate royalty so much. its just a made up title that means nothing. are all the centuries of oppression by the royals forgotten? why on earth would an accomplished woman like Angelina Jolie freaking bow before a woman who is put in that position merely because she was born to her parents? growing up in castles while others starve on the street. The so called Queen should kiss Angies feet.

seriously, i dont get it and i had hoped she would be above such superficial “accolades”.

Angelina fights injustice and human rights violations and the royals have a history of both, in every country.

    • frisbeejada says:

She curtsied to the Queen because The Queen is the Head of State for the UK – which is a Constitutional Monarchy and has been since the 17th Century. The Royal Family has very little real political power, that resides in Parliament. Angelina curtsied because she followed the traditions of her host country who are awarding her their highest female honour. Clearly Angelina has beautiful manners – unlike you. End of.

      • Chris2 says:

        Well said Frisbee
Courtesy is all it costs, and it’s edifying to see grace in action here.

      • Pandy says:

        Can’t top your response really.

      • Sal says:

        WELL SAID!!!

      • HappyMom says:

She’s not curtsying. As an American that would be inappropriate. She’s bending her head which is respectful.

      • Katherine says:

Since it’s not a moving picture you can’t tell if she curtsied. It doesn’t look like a curtsy but she is taller than the Queen so she’d have to bend down anyway and it is a courtesy to bow her head to the Queen.

Angie has been traveling in diplomatic circles and visiting heads of state and other royalty for a long time now and she knows exactly how to behave and if she doesn’t know the right protocol she has plenty of people to ask.

    • BlueeJay says:

I personally dislike royalty how they live off the money of others and the oppression they create. Personally, I would not cross the street to meet with a royal family member. Some oppressed people love the whole “head of state” thing and love to be a “subject” under their control. Not me. I am sure Angie does not really care one way or the other but she has to play the game and “bow” to the queen to get press for her new movie. Oh and if dressing like my 95 year old grandma is dressing with class then yes. Angie is very classy.

      • norah says:

you know it would be nice if for once u cd let us enjoy the great news of angelina receiving this honour – the issue of royalty etc can surely be discussed some other time and there is nothing wrong with how either women are dressed – angelina looks lovely and so does the queen so no need to constantly shade angelina all the time please

      • Sal says:

Agreed Norah. Its sad that the haters are so full of hatred and so unhinged that they think THE QUEEN gives a flying fuqk about movie schedules. I feel sorry for pathetic creatures like bluejay. They are so SO DETERMINED to hate Angelina that they don’t care that their psychotic conspiracy theories make them look like deranged nutters.

      • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Good point – would rather meet Michelle Knight ( or Lily as her new name in the ‘people’ article stated) than any royal or movie star, she is royalty for having survived under the control and oppression of a sick man and came out with a hopeful attitude after all she went through.

      • Greenstone says:

Agree Bluejay! I like to imagine the Lovely Ange is smarter than to bow down to the traditional oppressors of my nation’s First People internally, but plays the game to promote world healing.

(Sal, you need to read more on the aristocracy & history before getting so worked up and labelling people ‘psychotic’ for valid opinions).

The suits ok, but it looks like she was trying to one-up the Queen in the Elegant Nana stakes.. And won.

    • Sixer says:

Deary me. It’s only the same thing as saluting POTUS as Commander in Chief if picking up a US military gong. I’m no fan of the royals – and I’m British – but getting hung up on this nonsense is just silly. Every country gives out awards and every country has a degree of ceremonial when giving them out. Most people outside the US snigger at the hand-on-heart for the national anthem thing but it means something to you guys, so good for you. BlueeJay – you do understand that every country has a head of state, right? And that general protocols are followed when addressing/meeting them? You’ve got them. We’ve got them. Everyone’s got them.

      • BlueeJay says:

Right but in the States the “head of state” is elected and are not there just because they came out of the right womb, they do not receive millions in ‘wages” just to look pretty at events, they are not “bowed” to. Imagine that!

      • FingerBinger says:

QEII is the head of state with no power. I still don’t understand why prime ministers need to meet with the Queen. Tradition I guess.

      • Chris2 says:

        Bluejay
What’s important is that HMQ represents Britain….the honour is from Britain. The Queen isn’t in that position because she rigged an election, or denied the country a preferred head of state whom she deposed….she’s our approved figurehead, so courtesy to her is courtesy to Britain.

But it’s no day for wrangling. Let’s break out the champers!

      • dawnchild says:

        BlueeJay…re: elected heads of state.
Not true. Not all heads of state of democracies are popularly elected . The head of state of India (largest democracy by population) is indirectly ‘elected’ by a group of legislators from both house of Parliament. It is usually a token election to confirm a largely ceremonial appt (though with very real and broad powers to defend the Constitution if necessary). However, the President of India does hand out all the nation’s high awards. And ceremony is required. The Queen represents the sovereignty of Britain, and when she functions in that capacity, courtesy is proper from both parties.

      • bluhare says:

Amen, Sixer. I live in the US but am not American, and god forbid you say anything that may praise your native country sometimes. Apparently saying something complimentary about Britain means I am a fan of taxation without representation and should be deported immediately. And I am only commenting here because, believe it or not, bluhare is not my real name. 🙂

      • Katherine says:

Chris2, that’s a really good explanation so thank you.

      • wolfpup says:

bluhare, I have to disagree with you. Born and raised in the USA has never meant having faulty assumptions about British people because of the Revolutionary War. I mean it was so long ago… If anything, I noticed Americans falling in love with the accent. The two forms of government are very different, even though we speak the same language. And I’ll always believe that the British have the best inside view of all that is proper and polite. (!!!)

I bet Angie is a great flirt, and can wrap men all around every finger.

    • Tippy says:

As an American, I find the concept of royalty archaic and nauseating.

      • Chris2 says:

As an Englishwoma, and indeed as an Irishwoman, I find monarchy archaic too. However, I have come to believe that it embodies valuable qualities that no elected person can offer.
I won’t bore CB with it all, but I do suggest that many supporters, like moi, recognise the essential fault with the idea of monarchy…….but *still* think it the ‘least worst’ option.
I think I’m trying to say that it’s not always black and white; it’s not rabid royalists versus strong republicans. We aren’t necessarily idealogical opposites, more like we’re at angles to each other, not far off.

      • frisbeejada says:

Well said Chris2 – sorry this is a bit late in the day but never mind. I agree with you, philosophically I am a Republican Brit but my head tells me in reality there is not that much practical difference between a Constitutional Monarchy and a Republic. Our Monarchy has no real political power whilst even the President of the United States has to act with the backing of his elected representatives in a sensible system of checks and balances. There are advantages in having the continuity of the Queen who is the longest serving Head of State in the world. She knew Churchill and Roosevelt for Gods sake, she has walked history with Giants. Regardless of whose Head of State we are discussing treating each of them with the respect and protocol of their own country is simply a case of good manners. Were I to meet the President of the United States I would call him Mr President in respect of his office. Angelina met the Queen and either bowed or curtsied in respect of her Office. As you pointed out yourself, good manners cost nothing. On such a day and in receipt of very well deserved recognition for her work on behalf of other women why bring up an argument – yet again- that was settled 200 years ago? And this is coming from somebody who, at the time would have merrily chucked the tea into Boston harbour! Well ok not ALL of it BUT after reserving a little for personal use the rest of it would have gone over no problemo… (well alright there might have been a bit of an internal struggle we are discussing tea after all – mutter, mutter, mutter….) 🙂

      • LAK says:

        Freesbejada: Tea is ALL!!!

I never feel settled without a cuppa.

      • frisbeejada says:

LAK – I like a person who quickly gets to the real nub of the issue and gets their priorities sorted! 😀

      • wolfpup says:

The Queen is the head of state in the UK. The President of the United States is far more than being *just* the head of state. His powers are quite different. Can the Queen send troops to battle? I can never understand why people compare the positions as being equal. They are not. The Queen is almost entirely a figurehead, and unable (constitutionally) to publicly share her opinion on matters of state. The political system in the UK is comprised on stratified culture and government. The Revolutionary War was enacted to free the English colony, from the British crown.

(blue, blue, the bluest blood..) Willy and the President are not comparable, and never will be. Willy could never be elected to anything, other than being the sulkiest. (Yep, I am totally mean today).

I know that I am upsetting some of you; being just as opinionated as anyone; and I know that if there were a vote on this page, I would lose. So what, that mere fact does not change what I think. I’ll always appreciate facts, for self-correction, although I do not expect for them to be given in a kind way! and probably why people go into a privacy booth to vote – -the peer pressure to conform OMG!

  26. Louise says:

Great pictures. What is particularly nice is the Queen doesn’t have gloves on, which is very unusual.

    • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

and angelina isn’t wearing panty hose – it would be hillarious if she did this event secretly commando.

  27. Maya says:

    Congrats and well deserved Angelina.

The main reason I became a mega fan of hers was for her genuine humanitarian work and the passion to help others.

Most importantly she did mistakes in past like everyone does but didn’t let it rule her life. She learnt from those mistakes and matured and moved on to achieve amazing things. This woman is a true role model For the younger generation.

  28. taxi says:

Wonderful! AJ is also perfectly dressed & coiffed for such a momentous meeting. Love this.

  29. An says:

What I love most about Angie, despite posts here being OTT with the fawning, is that she somehow manages to have it all and also overcome struggles gracefully, but in her own way. It’s very admirable.

  30. Chinoiserie says:

The color she is wearing looks very nice on her.

  31. Vava says:

Great suit, nice hairstyle. Take note, Kate.

    • LAK says:

I feel bad, but that was my first thought especially when you remember when stories were leaked back in the halcyon days of goodwill immediately after the wedding saying Kate admired AJ and wished to emulate her charitable efforts.

      • Vava says:

Those stories were probably the result of some PR, I suspect. Kate obviously hasn’t thrown herself into charity work, or much of any sort of work other than catering to her uppity husband. Maybe dealing with William IS work!?!?!?! haha.

When you see a young woman like Angelina transform herself as she has, it’s very impressive. She’s a hard worker, has tons of kids, and still finds time to lend a hand to some of these important causes around the world. Plus, Angelina can make a speech and not look like an idiot. If I was Kate, I’d be ashamed of myself for all the lost opportunities she has at her disposal. Aside from her inappropriate attire and behaviors at times, this lack of work ethic is the most damaging, IMO. Not going to hold my breath that she makes any changes any time soon. Sure, William may have a hand in that too, but if Kate was more enlightened, self aware, and MOTIVATED – things with her would be different. (And I’m not talking about while she’s pregnant and sick. She’s lazy consistently.)

      • FLORC says:

        Vava
Dame Jolie has also taken it upon herself to devote her time to charity work because it gave her life meaning. In an early interview around the time of Maddox adoption she spoke of this. How she was hurting herself, being careless with her own safety. A few attempts on her own life and much because she was living day to day doing nothing that gave her fulfillment. She found causes, saw struggles and her views changed. So many had it worse than her and she was in a position to help. So she did. She was able to find something selfless to live for. And she didn’t do it half-heartedly. She threw herself into it. When she speaks candidly you can tell she keeps herself well informed. There’s an effort made.

I think it’s a beautiful tale and a movie on her life would be awesome. Because you know there will be many.

I don’t want to make this a Duchess Vs. Dame thread because that’s not fair. 1 wants to help. Jolie has spoken of this as for her to not help and making the crazy money she does is like a crime against humanity. The other deigns to work charity events.

        P.S.
I read that for each project Brad and Angie work they donate 1 3rd to half their salary to charities. And not their own charities. Others. They’re aware people would attack them like it’s a tax shelter and it’s not.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

Kate did admire Angelina greatly and asked PR.William to ask the press office to arrange a meeting of both Brad and Angelina in Los Angeles, when William and Kate visited.
Brad gave notice he was busy and Angelina got word back to Williams palace handlers that she would be busy elsewhere and couldnt.

The best they could do was Reese Witherspoon, who Kate wanted to meet also and the two met up. Reese loved it and so did Kate, but she was disappointed about not meeting Angelina when in LA.

      • anne_000 says:

        @Vava

        +100000

Very well put. Agree completely. So many years of “lost opportunities” to help her fellow Britons in this time of economic hardship. She could have helped out so many charities and so many people. Same with William.

    • The Original Mia says:

I thought the exact same thing. She looks fabulous and appropriate for the occasion.

  32. Someonestolemyname says:

    Congratulations Angelina. Simply awe inspiring.
She deserves the all accolades she is receiving, well done.
Queen Elizabeth II looks quite wonderful. Angelina and the Queen’s outfits are perfection.
    Love her.
    Love Angelina.

Clooney THIS is how it’s done!

Somewhere at this moment, Jennifer is throwing glasses, chairs, smoking furiously, screaming yelling and having a meltdown, knowing another battle lost against the U.N. ambassador and now Dame.

    • Pandy says:

I know, right? I hate to be mean about it, but I am anticipating some award for JA coming soon – like Best Hair of the decade or in the world lollllll.

      • Sal says:

That’s always how it happens with her she is always stalking the JPs. Maybe GQ will give her The Most Beautiful Woman Alive title – again.

    • Jessica says:

I doubt she cares. People need to stop comparing these women.

      • FingerBinger says:

Agreed. Jennifer basically gets dumped by Brad to get with Angelina but everyone hates Jennifer.

      • Hissyfit says:

Everyone hates Jennifer? Really? This is probably one of the few gossip site online which is Jolie friendly. You can check DListed, Lainey and others and you’d think Jolie ran over their pets or something with their “irrational hate” for her as they call it. Jennifer gets all the pity, support and free pass because she was dumped.

  34. thinkaboutit says:

This woman is perfection on so many levels. I just love her for reasons both substantial and superficial.

  35. starrywonder says:

I love the dress and love that she curtsied. Cute as anything.

  36. Sal says:

Seriously? Great news. Goodness knows after all the crap she has had to go through the last decade she deserves it. And some (pathetic shallow petty superficial minority) say her humanitarian work is fake. Trust me as a member of the commonwealth under Queen Elizabeth, she is NOT a moron. Like Nelson Mandela, she does not suffer fools gladly. These people know who is real and who isn’t. QEII does not waste her time with fakes. Cue the snide attacks on her. in 3,2…

  37. HoustonGrl says:

    That suit is perfection!

  38. idontknowyouyoudontknowme says:

Um, why do you need to curtsy to anyone? While Im not British, even if I were I couldnt care less about these stupid etiquette rules.. especially if you are not British? The queen eats, poops, sleeps and will die just like anybody on this planet.

Im not going to say anything about Angelina because at this point I guess she’s even more untouchable than the Queen :]

    • Sara says:

yeah its so weird. where i come from its the artists job to challenge power not to bow before it.

      • Jamie says:

What rubbish! There is such a thing as cultural sensitivities. Art has NOTHING to do with morals or power or diplomatic behaviour.

    • Sal says:

Clearly you don’t understand diplomacy or culture.

    • Chris2 says:

Only British subjects are required to curtsey….this was thrashed out when the Queen came to Ireland. Others might give a little bow if so moved.
Even as a British citizen I always say I’d not curtsey but bow: (she’d hardly send me to the Tower) but I bet I, would if I met her!

If AJ is in fact curtseying ( or is she bending?) then that’s her own show of courtesy, it is not demanded of her..

    • Izzy says:

Because respect for other cultures doesn’t start international incidents or wars. And because AJ has good enough manners to respect the culture of the country she is in and the protocol of the head of state she is meeting.

Please, don’t get a job in diplomacy or anything, the world is messed up enough as it is.

    • HappyMom says:

She’s bowing her head out of respect. She is NOT curtsying.

      • FLORC says:

The placement of feet made me lean towards curtsey. Caps weren’t necessary. Just reads like over the top yelling at a commentor on a blog.

  39. norah says:

i like the suit that angelina is wearing is it powder blue or what?

  40. may23 says:

    • Someonestolemyname says:

Angelina started on this journey in her later twenties even though she was still thought to be the wild child, according to reports she had an epiphany during the making of Laura Tomb Raider, when she was filming, she took a break and went out into the area and saw homeless women and children, and she made a vow to help to change the lives of people in need.

  41. Paige says:

    Very proud of her.

    • Luciana says:

The Queen is such a fangirl. Remember when she was visited by GOT cast and sat on the Iron Throne? Cool!

        ominous 🙂

    • Erinn says:

I love that photo. It just makes me so happy.

    • Gia says:

The Queen must be a film buff! She’s so restricted in what she can do. I bet watching movies is an escape for her.

        I love that film.

I think it was Lainey who recently said that Brad and George’s friendship was blown way out of proportion by the media. If they were that close, I think they would have been at each other’s weddings.

      • lisa2 says:

LOL.. she has been blowing their friendship out of proportion for year. I think a lot of the JP fans have emailed her for years about her over estimating their friendship. They are friends. But don’t hang out a lot.. usually only when they are at events together. Those Ocean’s movies were a long time ago

  51. megs283 says:

I know it’s been said about 115 times upthread, but I am SO happy for her!!! She is a beautiful person inside and out who has devoted so much of her time and heart to helping others. She deserves all the accolades that come her way and she is an amazing example!

Superficially – I LOVE her outfit, hair, makeup. She is such an elegant woman.

  52. zut alors! says:

Congratulations Dame Angelina! I was wondering when this ceremony would take place. She looks gorgeous and dignified. I am a happy Angeloonie today!

  53. feebee says:

This just makes me smile. A worthy recognition for much needed and appreciated work that Ms Jolie does on behalf of victims all over the world, and of course working to reduce number of future victims of sexual violence. The ‘award’ may or may not mean something but it’s good.

  54. Gia says:

Whoa. From the twitchy little hacker to Dame Angelina. She’s come a long way! Good for her. Her mother would be incredibly proud.

  55. celine says:

Don Cheadle has been to Clooneys home in Lake Como. I didn’t see him at the wedding. I think
    They are work friends .

    • Someonestolemyname says:

I wondered about Don Cheadle too.
He seems like a nice man.

      • lenje says:

So if Cheadle hangs out with Clooney he must’ve been NOT nice?

Don Cheadle is active in a project called Not on Our Watch (he founded it), which aims to end the genocide in Darfur. IIRC Clooney has helped him with that project (as Clooney has worked on Sudan’s issue).

      • Kim1 says:

How is wondering why Don’t wasn’t at the wedding questioning how nice he is.Matt is nice, charitable, etc and he was at wedding.
Don and Brad may or may not have been invited.Maybe both were filming. We don’t know but we can wonder.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

        Thank you Kim1.

  56. Izzy says:

    Dame La Leg. Awesome!

  57. Joanie says:

    A gorgeous woman all around!

And her hair, dress, and shoes are Perfect for this meeting. Outstanding.

  58. Olenna says:

That’s my girl! Love that suit, BTW!

  59. Lv says:

I wish it were easier to find calf length skirts!!

  60. pnichols says:

How awesome! That first picture is great!!

  61. Lizzo says:

Can someone tell Angelina to tell Kate how to do hair and make up?

  62. elisabeth says:

why does Kate middleton can put up her hair like that more often. It’s so gorgeous!

  63. RJ says:

She looks so beautiful (wow, 39 yrs old?). Sigh of jealousy

  64. Nicole says:

    Well-deserved! Angelina!

  65. Anna says:

Several years ago I worked in an office where we ALWAYS had the TVs on political channels. I do not remember the exact thing she was doing but Angelina Jolie was giving some sort of speech/talk and one of my younger coworkers started going off about “celebrities knowing their place and not getting involved in politics”. Our boss at the time-a much older gentleman who knew (supposedly) next to nothing about pop culture-went off on his OWN tangent about all the ambassador work AJ had done as part of the UN. FUNNIEST. THING. EVER.

  66. Lena says:

I doubt if she was even invited to the George Clooney wedding. Besides,no matter how “busy” you are, you have to show up to the queen of course.

  67. wolfpup says:

Her boobs are so much bigger than she is down under – I mean, when she was younger.

  68. Chris says:

These types of accolades are unnecessary. It should be a given that someone in Angelina’s privileged position should help those in need. It would be callous not to.

  69. MplsCityGal says:

Open toes and no nylons. Love it!

    • Chris2 says:

Not sure what you’re referring to, but may I say how lovely it is to be reminded of ‘nylons’? So much niftier than ‘tights’ and ‘hose’. I’d completely forgotten that this is what we used to say.
      🙂

      • lisa2 says:

I think she means Angie is wearing open toe shoes and no nylon “hose”.

      • Chris2 says:

        T muchly, Lisa
Yeah I guessed that, but then expanding the pic on my phone I couldn’t make out such a detail as toes at all, too blurred.
If so, I must say I’d be a bit surprised if she *were* bare-legged. Maybe those toeless nylons you can get for exactly this type of occasion?
Anyhoo I’m just chuffed to have ‘nylons’ back in my vocabulary.
        🙂

  70. Longhorn says:

Awesome!! I love how she used her fame to learn more about the world, in particular areas of crisis, and has tried to shed light on issues that aren’t overly covered by the media. People who read the newspaper are familiar about the atrocities around the world but many people don’t read the newspaper or hear any world news. I’m glad she can give a measured account to certain world issues.

  71. OVG says:

She is so everything. I love her.

  72. Hideyocomments says:

She is reminding me of another graceful, beautiful human being that dedicated her life to great humanitarian endeavours, Audrey Hepburn. Even Jolie’s styling, her grace, her poise echoes Ms. Hepburn’s. That two women, separated by many decades, have lived parallel lives; both enjoyed successful show business careers affording them great privilege and luxury, yet made sure to give back to the world and its disenfranchised. This observation also makes me think of two very specific things; thank goodness there are people like them that may inspire others through their celebrity and fame to give back, to care for others beyond international borders, and how sad it is that of all the hundreds if not thousands of famous and wealthy entertainment professionals that have come and gone, so few of them take a similar path.

    • norah says:

another thing between hepburn and angelina jolie was their body shape – both were very thin. i remember reading a biography of audrey hepburn – she was born in holland and was there during ww 2 and if i can recall she said that being hungry all the time was something she never recovered from even after the war was over. she said that she never over ate either – always very careful of food – because it affected her throughout the life but it never stopped her from travelling all over the world either.

  73. neer says:

Angelina Jolie continues to amaze the public, that’s why even Queen Elizabeth II honored her with damehood as she recognizes her unselfish services to UK foreign policy and the campaign to end sexual violence. Let it be known that this honor was bestowed on her voluntarily, meaning she didn’t ask for it nor campaign for it nor solicit for it. Moreso, she didn’t buy it!!! She just do her humanitarian works out of her kindness & pure heart. She just want to use her fame…..her celebrity….. her name for a good cause. It is her joy to be of service to others.

I am glad that my favorite celebrity in the whole world is inspiring a lot of people. Those who admire & acknowledge her goodness are very proud of her. She seems to be doing very well. That’s why many people love her so much because they can see her efforts….the time she is spending for her advocacy

Her family is truly proud of her. Her husband is very loving & supportive too. I am certain her in-laws are very proud of her as well. They must probably say that their son BP is very lucky to have found the right woman for him after a long search & years of agony.

I am truly proud to say I am an Angelina Jolie fan. Because of her, I was inspired to do for others as well. That’s why I recently joined UNHCR (Philippines) as a registered donor & automatically became a member. Meaning, I am billed monthly (through my credit card account) for a regular donation with a specific amount I chose intended for a family in need.

Hence, thank you Angelina Jolie for the inspiration. May your tribe increase.

    • Ennie says:

      what a nice post.
I am inspired, too. I have not joined a UN org. but I do what I can around the place I live, and try to be more positive than negative, and create consciousness of social problems in the younger people I work with.

    • BNA FAN says:

Hi Ne’er, congratulations for helping others. I’m sure Angie would be proud to know that she had something to do with you opening up your heart to helping others. Angle is an inspiration to many, and it proves that someone really can be a little confused as a young person and turn their life around for the good of others. Can’t wait to see some stills from BTS. Fury will be coming out this weekend, can’t wait to go and support Brad and his new movie.

  74. anna says:

All that white privilege in one room.

    • wolfpup says:

That’s exactly how I feel, Anna.

Both of the women are famous; both by birth. Angelina found her way into the acting profession because her father was an actor: the Queen has blue blood. I’m not saying that Laura Croft was not a great film – I loved her in that role. Who has viewed the film that Hague found so intriguing? I have it on my list, but it wasn’t box office, and I’ve not heard much about it. Of course, it’s an important topic! (Black women had no one to stand up for them when they were being raped). Perhaps I’m merely cynical about the publicity. And perhaps I am wrong that I do not believe in Angelina’s new image, comprising that of a madonna. I think that the original biblical one was created by men delineating women’s roles. Some women believe in that. (With all the “work” that Angelina does, I wonder how much time she spends with her children- oopsie, she is the woman who can do it all!).

No one can pull off the juxtaposition of a beautiful, famous woman in a sea of tragedy like Angelina does, (with the help of a brilliant photographer). These images shows she cares, and that should be enough, apparently. Is the war film the real reason that she is receiving this award? I do not know how the UK passes them out, or what’s required to receive them. She hasn’t ever won an academy award.

I posted upthread that I hadn’t ever posted on Jolie. But I did – I remember that I commented about her breasts. At that time, I was informed in greater detail about her surgery. However, I have never posted concerning her aside from that, and never about her “work”. She doesn’t interest me: I watched her grow up, Her breast are bigger than before, that’s all I was attempting to say. I have to step aside for the hero worship of other women. I remember that I was gagga about the series “That Girl”. Jolie is a role model, and I will leave it at that.

I don’t know what a troll is – it seems that term is thrown on people who do not share the same point of view. Jolie will not read our comments, nor does she care. Posters however, do care about what is hurled directly to their person; no one is immune to having hurt feelings. I promise, Jolie won’t have a bad day by what we say, at the most her PR team might make adjustments to her image. Where do manners enter into these discussions? In my mind, it is simply unkind to focus on each other, because we are all her in the same room, so to speak. Why not focus on ideas, rather than on the person who has them? It’s more effective in changing ideas, if that is what one is trying to do.

Also, it is simply wrong to idolize someone for surviving suicide. (hugs, for sure!) But what about those who did not survive, and have another chance to feel loved? Bad example!!!

I wonder if her film will change any of the minds of men who are brutally killing each other, and come home screwed up for doing that.. I know that rape of the enemy is occuring from both battle sides; and has always been a part of the aggression since war was invented (?) Americans GI’s are also guilty of this crime. War is hell on earth. Why can’t we stop that? Women are not immune to this, no matter how much sympathy we have for them.

      • lisa2 says:

maybe you should actually read about what she has done. You wrote a very long post with lots of digs about someone that “doesn’t interest” you.. you have a lot of gossip information thrown in too for good measure.

It is not difficult to go and research about what Angie has actually done. The schools, clinics and such that she has built. Your focus seems solely on pictures taken through the UN. which is a job that requires photos. But go and find out all the things she and Brad have done that doesn’t get media attention.

You don’t have to like her. But I wonder why you never posted when the comments on this site were 90% negative. I see many comments of her being overly praised. But never a comment from the same people about the YEARS and YEARs of horrid attacks and comments. I wonder why those didn’t generate the comments like her not being attacked do.

I guess if you are being over the top negative for no reason that is understood..

I think Angie has been attacked long enough for things that had nothing to do with her attackers. But you didn’t read those I suppose. I means since she didn’t interest you.
Those comments would have got your attention.

      • Lucky Charm says:

Ok, so you don’t care for Angelina Jolie. That’s your perogative. However, I’d just like to correct a few points from your post.

“Both of the women are famous; both by birth. Angelina found her way into the acting profession because her father was an actor” – She dropped her father’s name professionally because she wanted to succeed on her own merits, not because of who her father is. Even if her dad was somehow responsible for the doors opening up for her, that wouldn’t stop them from being closed if she didn’t have the acting ability to keep them open.

“And perhaps I am wrong that I do not believe in Angelina’s new image, comprising that of a madonna.” – The only people who call her “a Madonna” or “St. Angie” are the non-fans trying to belittle all the work she has done and will continue to do to help others. In an age when most young women (celebrity or not) are more concerned with taking selfies and putting a vain, self-centered image of themselves for the world to see (and the more who see, the better), she just quietly goes about her business and when OTHER people (not her) mention something significant she’s done, the detractors say that she’s pushing this image to make herself look better. She really doesn’t care what you think, and ten years is a long time to try and convince people of something that isn’t there, wouldn’t you agree?

” With all the “work” that Angelina does, I wonder how much time she spends with her children” – More time than most parents that have to work a 9-5 job. Even when she has to travel on location for work (filming) her kids are with her so she can see them when she comes home at night. When she travels for the UN it’s usually just a few days. I’d bet my house she spends more time with her children than the average mom who works full-time outside the home.

“She hasn’t ever won an academy award.” – She’s won TWO.

“I don’t know what a troll is” – Someone who intentionally posts a negative comment with information they know is false or inflammatory just to get a reaction from the fans.

      • wolfpup says:

Well!, I have been informed! I appreciate that, I really do. I still don’t like her, but I will stop posting concerning her, because her fans are pretty angry with those who do not share the same opinion. I certainly don’t want to offend them.

I’m new to posting: and calling other’s trolls is helpful, apparently: perhaps I am just unaware. I would never call someone that: so much “emotional” energy is invested to force an opinion. I liked Kaiser’s post on Angelina today…it was informative about her work: and who knows, maybe someday I will change my opinion concerning her, but it will not happen by peer pressure, nor by calling me names. So much anger over someone’s ignorance or opinions – I guess that’s how this thing works.

Does Jolie have ANY girlfriends? Has she lost the femme fatale image? I lost interest in Jolie after the Jolie/Aniston thing, So, I haven’t followed her current turn-around career, and even so, I didn’t read too much of the gossip about the triangle between the three of them, back in the day. That may play a factor in my opinion. (I could fall in love with my neighbor, but he’s married to another woman, and I wouldn’t want to tempt him!) But because I could be wrong, if and when I change my opinion, I will be happy to share, and so you are free of my opinions until then. She’s good for you, and I will refrain, unless I wish to be called names, or be accused of being a h8ter.

I am am very pleased that she is happy, and wish her continued success.

  75. sherlockapple says:

Good for her–she deserves it. May she continue to help those in need.

  76. Ice Queen says:

Wow! Congrats! She is such an inspiration!

  77. Ilsa says:

Angelina did not curtsey. She bent down slightly.

  78. Kiki04 says:

I give it five minutes of those photos being out before Lazy Kate “miraculously” feels better enough to go back to the spotlight, er, charity work.

  79. zut alors! says:

This question is for the Brit posters on this site. Is the insignia awarded to honorary Dame Angelina meant to be worn (and if so, what occasion would warrant it) or is it to be kept in its box like a keepsake?

    • Chris2 says:

      Zut
LAK is the one for this…..but as far as I know they are not worn, except perhaps at some immensely serious civic do like a royal wedding, funeral, or investiture, as a courtesy to the Crown.
I do know that it’s considerd a bit naff to actually use the title (Dame or Sir) one’s self. The media refer to Sir Mick, Sir Elton etc….but they themselves do not. When Ben Kingsley was knighted and insisted on the ‘Sir’, he was roundly lambasted.
The medal itself is displayed in its box, if at all. (Personally I hope Shiloh adds it to her top hat outfit)
I enjoyed Keith Richards’ advice to Mick when his knighthood was announced…that he should refuse ‘this paltry honour’ and hold out for a peerage!
