I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve believed for years now that Julia Roberts had some work done. I can even pinpoint the time frame of the alleged work: it was around the time she was promoting Mona Lisa Smile (circa 2002). I remember seeing her on Oprah around that time and her face looked so different. Her eyes were suddenly tight and everything just seemed very “refreshed.” For what it’s worth, I think if she did get work it was either injectibles or something surgical that has since “settled.” But since Julia has never publicly admitted to getting anything done, that’s as good as never getting anything done, right? One goose honk for “yes,” two honks for “no.”
Julia Roberts has stepped into the controversy over the pressures on women in Hollywood by claiming she may have risked her career by opting not to undergo a facelift. The Oscar-winning actor, 46, made the comments in an interview with You Magazine to promote her role as a beauty ambassador with Lancome.
“By Hollywood standards, I guess I’ve already taken a big risk in not having had a facelift,” she said. “But I’ve told Lancome that I want to be an ageing model – so they have to keep me for at least five more years until I’m over 50.”
Roberts, whose comments came in the wake of a media furore over 45-year-old Renée Zellweger’s new look, said she had found peace in middle age by “studying yoga on a more conscious level” and removing the clutter from her life.
“It’s about non-grasping, non-hoarding, cleaning out your closet, dusting out your mind and letting go of the things that weigh you down mentally and emotionally,” she said. “There’s a lightness to my life now – an airy quality of not taking things too seriously. That’s happiness.”
God, you have to love how patronizing Julia can be. Yes, she’s a 47 year old woman fronting a major beauty campaign for Lancome and good for her. But the campaign has come under fire repeatedly for the excessive Photoshopping and airbrushing on Julia’s face. The Lancome ads were even BANNED in the UK because they were promoting false advertising, that’s how bad it was. Who needs plastic surgery when Lancome is spending thousands of dollars in post-production to make you look like a dewy and radiant 29 year old? As for the rest of it… I get the feeling that Julia probably does live a pretty clean/green/healthy life. Filled with lots of laughter. Because she’s laughing smugly at all of the tacky peasants. Ah, sweet elixir of youth: the goose-honk.
PS… The UK outlets are trying to make this into a “Julia vs. Renee Zellweger” thing. It’s possible that Julia is throwing shade on Renee, because that would be completely in keeping with Julia’s character, but I tend to think Julia gave these quotes before last week’s Zellweger photos even came out.

TWO HONKS FOR YES ON THE FOREHEAD
*Throws head back and laugh even louder than is possible and annoys the whole room with my bs “joie de vivre”*

You are the Queen of Zingers! Lol
That always makes me think of Liz Lemon doing her Julia Roberts laugh, and Pete seeing that she had corn stuck in her teeth.
She owes it all to her use of Aloe Vera. She’s the Mother Theresa of Aloe Vera.
You mean, A Low Vera?
I see what you did there. Well played!
I dislike her so much, but she does look pretty good for her age. I can’t with her Goop-y quotes, though!
She must be using Aveeno too.
Don’t you mean hello vera?
Yup, Rhiley, that was my point.
Ahahaha, Virgilia, sure, that too. And wtf, some Avon, too, while we’re at it.
She’s never gonna get shed of what she did with that spiteful teeshirt. You’d think it would have been a lesson to those who followed in her wake: If you’re gonna steal someone’s husband, don’t make it even worse by publicly taunting and trying to discredit the wronged wife.
LeAnn, are you listening?
for reasons unknown to even myself, I cannot stand her. Her self righteous attitude combined with her punchable face. yuck
I feel the same about her. She could play the Joker with that grin of hers.
Maybe the Joker had a child
Agree and feel the same way about her niece.
I’ve always thought she was just ugly. Supposedly, the camera loves and she photographs well. I can’t imagine how bad she looks in person.
@cubfan34
I’ve always thought that she had a TON of charisma when she was younger, now, not so much. Back when she was younger, she had IT all–a headful of thick hair, a nice smile…..and I even like a few of her movies where she isn’t required to be more than cute. But now, good Lord. I can’t believe people were ragging on Meryl about being overdone in August Osage County–Julia overdid it the most…she was so hammy and seemed way out of sync with everyone else. Meryl sounded really natural to me, the way she was speaking.
In August, Osage County I couldn’t stop staring at Julia’s lips. Specifically her… upper one I think? It was all jacked up every time she tried to speak or smile or emote.
@ Elisabeth, you said it best!
Liar liar pants on fire. She had a ton of good work. Can some plastic surgeons please describe the work – chin/neck area, her eyes etc?
…upper lip…
If she had work done on her upper lip she should ask for a refund
Here is what her lip looked like before.
http://www.entertainmentwise.com/photos/39925/22/Before-They-Were-Famous-Celebrity-High-School-Photos
All through her childhood it looked like this, so like Kylie Jenner we are supposed to believe you suddenly grow pouty lips as an adult.
Nose job too – looks terrible.
she did her eyes and her brow and her neck.
magnificent work and she knows it.
good enough that she thinks she can lie.
Well – she is officially being called out here.
Twitchy and that tight, tight smile. Those ads might as be for vaseline
I’m not moved to raging hatred by this woman, she doesn’t bother me. I don’t know whether she’s lying; probably splitting hairs, she had work done, but maybe not a facelift? At any rate, it would have been refreshing if she did mention the overshopping in the photos because that is abundantly clear. But then she would be dissing her contract. She should do a car commercial, driving with the window open, while maniacally laughing with that bawdy howl of hers. Drivers could be careening off the road in response, clearing the path for her travels.
Frances McDormand is a better spokesperson for realness. She isn’t shilling make-up in sanitized spreads.
She doesn’t bug me that much either. I think she’s telling the truth about a facelift, and whatever she might have had done looks pretty natural. To me she looks pretty much her age.
In any case, I can’t shade her for the Lancome Photoshop work either — EVERYTHING is Photoshopped into oblivion these days. It’s like the retouching artists can’t help themselves, no matter who is being featured on magazine covers and in ads.
The thing that makes her disingenuous is that (according to the article) she was promoting the Lancome campaign, without mention of the photoshop work, while professing realness, which is to elevate these products as beyond miraculous. If she had been promoting a film, instead, I think there would be no issue. But if you are going to photoshop people to oblivion, then it doesn’t matter the age or real life plastic surgery history anyway. And that is false advertising for the products, because results won’t simply vary; they WILL NEVER happen. KWIM?
Ah, yes, I didn’t realize she was actually promoting Lancome in this instance. ITA that she’s being disingenuous at best, and that Lancome is being very deceptive.
Back to the Photoshopping, I’ve often wondered why some advertisers even bother using real people as models, they might as well generate them entirely digitally.
Um, yeah. So I guess it was a “browlift” or something along those lines. You have to listen to the wording of celebrities as if you were a courtroom lawyer.
She doesn’t bother me either. I don’t get the level of animosity towards her.
LOL. The Olivier Martinez wearing mom jeans comment on the other thread got me started but this just about did me in.
Well in her defense she never said she hasn’t had anything done. Just that she hasn’t had a facelift. Still leaves lots of other options she didn’t deny…
*honk*honk*honk*
This is the answer. Julia never said she had not had a little maintenance work. She just has not stepped up and did the mini lift. Yet. Which honestly, everyone would do a little maintenance work if they had the cash.
But she did have those teeth finally even out. Her smile had got so gappy and uneven. I notice earlier this year that those huge gaps that were all over the left side of her smile… had been closed up. And had those front four teeth leveled out.
Which to me… is more important than face work. Is keep your teeth/smile looking young. A nice clean smile, really does improve your over all looks.
She is clearly a Botoxer, with that smooth between-the-brows area/ lower forehead & the bunny nose crinkles over the bridge that so many get when they smile because it is the only portion of the upper face that moves.
This.
Then why condemn those who have, just because she choose a different set of medical interventions to keep herself looking youthful? The implication of her comments is that she is aging naturally, and that is so obviously a lie as to be insulting. Nothing natural about tight, shiny and lying.
Imo, it didn’t sound like she was condemning anybody. I thought she was implying that, most likely against the advice of people in Hollywood (i.e agents?), she’s taken a risk in not getting a face-lift. Granted, I don’t know if the implication of other people’s advice was actually in her statement, but given what other actresses have said I’d assume people are telling her to do stuff to her face, and she probably has limits (right now) as to what she’ll do to assuage their concerns.
@ perplexed – you’re right, poor phrasing on my part. I guess what I mean is that she seems to be congratulating herself for this decision, and I think she is splitting hairs. Wow, what a big risk she took in using other types of medical interventions and not a face life. Are those even done anymore? Just found her statement to be so self-congratulating and in that sense it was annoyingly obnoxious.
I agree that she did sound self-congratulatory.
I love Julia. She is one of my favorite actresses.I wish she would do more comedies.
Her laugh frightens me. If I’m watching a movie she’s in, I have to get up and leave the room if I know “the laugh” is coming soon. Sometimes I forget and things get ugly.
Seriously funny stuff!
I have a feeling Julia’s “I’ve never had a facelift” is the equivalent of those girls in high school who had done everything possible but completion of the actual deed and claimed they were virgins. Yeah, technically. Sort of.
THIS. I need to steal this line from you and alter it in a situation appropriate moment of beyotchiness.
GNAT, I spit out water on the keyboard at your comment–years ago, when I first began teaching (HS), one of my students claimed, completely seriously, that she was a virgin because she only had anal sex. I was like, honey, you are so far from virginity I don’t even know where to begin. Usually we work up to that, not start with it! After almost 20 years, the thought of this conversation still amuses/shocks me.
It’s refreshing to see when a female celebrity doesn’t take the knife to her face.
But what about the needles?
When have we seen this? I don’t Jamie Lee Curtis featured here ???
She is about the only celeb I can think of that probably hasn’t had work done.
Even Hellen Mirren has had work done ( and I love her!) .
I don’t think she’s had a face lift but I’m sure she Botoxes from time to time, has had fillers, etc. She looked very natural in “August: Osage County.” I think she quit the ‘tox, etc. for awhile prior to filming-she had plenty of expression lines and definitely looked her age in that movie. A friend and I actually commented that we were surprised that she looked so natural.
Come on, ladies! She’s all natural! It takes the love of a good man to keep her looking so super duper dewy. Honk honk.
Maybe she has starred mentioning yoga and decluttering her life as a segue to a very quiet split with that man she used to always mention.
She is just one year older than I am. Honk, Honk.
I don’t like her, but it doesn’t look like she’s had a face-lift. Maybe she’s too young for one, and that’s why but her face does look more natural than other celebrities. I have wondered if she had surgery to alter certain features to make them look more refined (which for some reason seems less weird to me than trying to look 25 when you’re 60 and there’s no way of that ever actually happening even through plastic surgery), but in terms of aging I don’t think she looks unlike herself the way Renee Zellwegger does (although even there, it looks like she got just her eyes done, but that was radical enough to wipe out her original “identity.”)
Surprise surprise, I never liked her…..except in Steel Magnolias before she became so full of herself. She does have a healthy ego, but I got to say she looks good. She is tall and confident and has that smile. So start planning for the Meryl Streep roles Julie, because in all probability they will one day be yours.
I love Julia Roberts.
I believe her. In her candid closeup shots she looks pretty natural, there are lines but she just looks like she takes care of herself.
P.s. Is she throwing a bit of shade at Renee?
Or…just answering a question?
Why do people even bother asking celebrities about plastic surgery (or injectibles or whatever) – they are all going to LIE. And then the public will debate it. It’s dumb.
Judging by the size difference between her over-sized two front teeth versus the rest of her molars, Lancôme definitely photoshopped her smile. They made her teeth look more proportional.
A Low Vera — JR is a bizzo. That’s all I have to say.
She’s not my favorite actress but she looks great for her age. If she has gotten something done (I believe injectables, nothing major) then the surgeon made sure not to go overboard. Renee Zellweger simply went too far and now is completely unrecognizable. Julia is still shading people as she usually does, but you have to admit that she looks good.
I’ll believe no facelift, but surely some “maintenance”. And she looks good. But don’t claim to be an “aging model” for Lancome when their ads are airbrushed into oblivion.
Julia looks great I believe her.
But I belive they all have a touch of Botox, from JLO to Julia R, but I Believe Julia has Never had a facelift.
Botox on celebs doesnt bother me unless its overdone, but even then it doesnt bother me because Botox is temporary and wears off.
All celebrities in Hollywood have work done – we all know this. So why in the eff is everyone so worked up about it?
Anyways… it’s pretty obvious she hasn’t had a face lift. And it’s pretty obvious who HAS had one (Courteney Cox, Kim Novak, take your pick).
I don’t think there is anything wrong with “tweaking” your face/looks… if we all had celebrity money, most people would probably “tweak” their looks, too.
I also don’t see anything wrong with going to the dermatologist and getting most skin procedures done. But I’d draw the line at a face lift or any other major facial plastic surgery. Ick.
Oh Courteney Cox makes me so sad. A beautiful face destroyed by her fear of aging. Now she has the horrible frozen face. Poor fat Monica.
Poor fat Monica… LMAO!
She looks like Giada in the closeup with the red sweater and leopard top.
I don’t think she has had that much work done, just botox, and not as bad as other celebrities either as she does have wrinkles on her forehead and around her eyes. I am tired of everyone in Hollywood telling these actresses or making them feel like they have to change their face to work. We should stop this unless we all want to see Jack Nicholson’s Joker face in movies with mature actresses. It’s just ridiculous and that Lancome photoshopping is crazy. I don’t think she had that smooth even tone skin when she was 20.
I also do like Julia’s message of clearing the mental and physical clutter from your lives as you get older. Too bad she is a bit too much like Gweneth and the message just gets lost in her personality issues.
Julia looks her age, not in that ad, but in the leading photo. I have friends in the age group, and while they don’t have her body, they look the same age.
I can’t stand her, but a little here and there is to be expected in Hollywood. Not going full on “Death Becomes Her” (a walking ghoul) is as natural as it gets in Hollywood.
I still think Roberts would look much younger if she’d just stick with the warmer auburn hair tone. The blond is very harsh and unforgiving.
Although she has a point, even more now with HD television, etc. … Let’s compare pictures, shall we … Lancôme add? Photoshop?? Yeah, that easy… About the leaving clutter behind, I do agree. You need to get rid of negative energy (and I know it’s hard), it weights you down, after that, you feel more upbeat and with that comes a better outlook that leads to a more positive and healthy living.
She’s so full of herself, and crap.
What is up with her forehead veins?? They’re all I can see. I feel like her head is about to explode from all that mindfulness.
Maybe smiling too hard caused her forehead veins to pop. Guess there’s not enough Lancome makeup in the world that can conceal those babies. Either that, or she’s not using their products she’s being paid a small fortune to hawk.
She is so full of – pardon my language – f**king s**t.
I think I love you.
Lawd! I can’t stand this woman. Again with these ridiculous pontifications. Don’t these women understand almost ALL women come into their own in their 40s?! It just happens. We subconsciously reprioritize our life, weed out toxic people, become happy in our skin, and no longer sweat the small stuff – It’s called AGING! You don’t need therapy to get there either. It happens naturally.
Oh, and HONK HONK! You aint foolin’ nobody. BTW, you could use some tooth bleach. Your yellow teef is what gives away the obvious photoshopping of the Lancolm ad.
Julia is so beautiful. Her smile is everything!
