Taylor Swift is on the shortlist for Time Mag’s Person of the Year: OMG?

wenn21994911

Here are some photos of Taylor Swift at the Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball in London over the weekend. Her dress in these photos is Sachin & Babi Fall 2014. It’s cute, right? It feels like a different look for Swifty. But she’s been gradually updating her style for the better part of a year – no more frothy pastel party dresses! She’s taking more chances, having fun with prints and even wearing weird onesies to the VMAs. Good for her.

Speaking of The Year In Swifty, Tay-Tay might be getting a HUGE honor. Swifty has been shortlisted for Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. The shortlist includes: Tim Cook (Apple CEO), Roger Goodell (NFL commissioner), Vladimir Putin, Masoud Berzani (president of Iraqi Kurdistan), Jack Ma, the Ebola caregivers or the Ferguson protestors. Wow – that’s a very elite group for Swifty, right? I mean, she’s right up there with PUTIN as far “influence” and “power” go. Personally, I hate it when Time Magazine gives Person of the Year to an ill-defined group, like “protesters” or “caregivers” (no disrespect to either group, but as far as cover subjects go, it feels like a cop-out). Putin has already been Time’s Person of the Year in the past decade, so I doubt they’ll give it to him again. It will probably be Tim Cook. Or Ferguson.

Swifty is also the highest-ranking woman in The Guardian’s annual Power 100 list of influential people of the year. Swifty came in 10, behind the likes of Google’s Larry Page, Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos, etc.

And even with all that, Swifty is sad. She’s sad that people think she was making out with Karlie Kloss. Her rep already told E! News: “It’s sad that on the day it’s announced Taylor has three Grammy nominations for ‘Shake It Off,’ I have to shake off this crap.” And then yesterday, Swifty tweeted out this birthday wish:

Bitch just called us thirsty. #PotCallingTheKettleParched #TakesAThirstyChicaToKnowOne #YourBangsAreThirsty

I’m shocked, SHOCKED that Cumby isn’t on the shortlist given the hard on they’ve had for him recently.

    SHOCKED I tells ya!

    • Lilacflowers says:

Cumby? SOPHIE is the person of the year, no dispute.

    • Lindy79 says:

I’m going to get zapped by the Grand High Octopus and her CometVision

You guys are too funny:-) I like Taylor but person of the year? I always feel like that should be reserved for someone who is changing the world, and selling records, while great for her, and wearing cute clothes and kittens, does not quite cut it for me.
I wish she would actually turn the tables on the media about the whole making out with Karlie and be funny about it… Teasing tweets about how much more fun they had after leaving the event or something! But she would probably be rightfully afraid they would take it seriously.
Oh, and I think we should start leaving offerings for the supremely loved woman. Shellfish? Coral? Seaweed nests?

  2. Dani2 says:

“Accusing” is such a weird word to use though, it’s not like dating her is a crime lol.

  3. Nina says:

Blah. What kind of social change is she making? Making bangs socially acceptable? That’s not working. I dunno. I hope it goes to Ferguson.

    • Erinn says:

To be fair, the CEO of Apple is the CEO of one of the more ‘meh’ releases of iPhones, and then you have Putin who isn’t making any kind of good change, Masoud Berzani who has been accused of a lot of shady dealings, Goodell who likes to change up his punishments based on whether the masses know about what happened or not, and a ton of the Ferguson protesters went out and dummied businesses and cars.

Ultimately, my vote would be with the people risking their lives to try to help with the Ebola efforts. At least they were saving lives.

      • jammypants says:

Maybe the CEO of Apple is included because he came out this year. He’s in a great influential position and he championed equality. I can’t believe Goodell is on the shortlist. It’s a joke right?

      • Erinn says:

I forgot about that, jammypants! That is certainly a good reason.

    • Tifygodess24 says:

I also hope it doesn’t go to the ferguson protestors because the ones who rioted and looted will be validated for their horrendous behavior. “See we did nothing wrong we are even received “person of the year” Using violence to protest against violence is never the answer. Had the protestors / protests been peaceful THAT may have been deserving.

As far as Swifty – is anyone else on Taylor fatigue? I feel like she is at the point where if she keeps going the tide is going to turn. Over saturation is never a good thing and she’s hit that point. I get she had an album to promote but there is a happy medium.

      • Q says:

You might not want Fox News to be your sole source of news. The majority, as in almost all, of the protesters where peaceful and it was the police who were causing trouble – arresting and beating up people for no reason, throwing maze bombs at kids and literally threatening to kill the PEACEFUL protesters. Protesters where even standing guard outside shops to stop them from being looted. So yeah, the Ferguson protesters do deserve the title.

      • Nina says:

Please do educate yourself about the happenings in Ferguson, tifygodess. The protesters are peaceful, it’s the police that are violent.
How come black people are called violent and uncultured when peacefully asking for human rights, WHILE police throws tear gas at them/hurts their loved ones/threathens them/ultimately KILLS THEM AND GETS AWAY WITH IT, but when white people riot and damage property over a football game gone wrong, it’s all right? Why is that? Oh wait. I know why. :=)

      • Tifygodess24 says:

Thanks Q and Nina – I don’t watch Fox News and I am rather educated . So rude. I was speaking about the VIOLENT protestors , I love how you can only have one view on this topic or you get torn apart. I actually think for myself not what the mass media tells me. Check it out. Where did I say the cops were in the right or even suggest it and last I knew the protestors were black and white and that were being VIOLENT. I don’t care how angry you are destroying someones property is never acceptable especially when you are protesting against violence. But i must have imagined burned down buildings and looted stores??? Look at the protesting in NY over Eric Garner – peaceful. No need to loot or riot and message is getting across. It’s so funny to me that you both think your opinions are 100 percent correct when they are just like mine. OPINIONS.

      • embee says:

The first thing I think of when I hear about the Ferguson protesters is seeing the town burning down and all the looters. Then I remember there was all the peaceful protesters. Media makes a show. No Q and Nina I never have watched Fox news. I saw black and white protesters. Yes, the white ones got in trouble too!

      • ummm… says:

        @Tifygodess24
You mean the protesters who burned down the church where Mike Brown’s dad was baptized or the ones who shot and killed that young black kid inside of his car a few miles from where Michael Brown died?

Whoops. That wasn’t the “violent” protesters. Must have been another group. Hmm…

      • Nina says:

This makes me so sad. Thanks to Q and ummm… for being human beings in this world.
The lies surrounding Ferguson are insane. But what makes it even sicker that people don’t take a step back and say, ‘Wait, that was a teen. Wait, that was a person. Wait. Did they deserve to die?’
Did Mike Brown deserve to die? Did Eric Garner? Did Tamir, who was 12, playing inside with a toy? He opened the door and got shot. They said his death was justified because one of HIS PARENTS committed a minor crime/felony of sorts once. His PARENTS. Years ago. He was 12. Mike was supposed to be studying right now. Eric had multiple kids. Now they’re all dead. Think about how sickening that is. (not to mention the countless killings of black women, too)
And people say protestors are violent – racist, is what those people are.

    • phlyfiremama says:

I saw for myself when I was active in the Occupy protests that the police would send in “ringers”, or agitators~basically, people who would try to rile participants up to violent actions or who would actually start committing illegal acts in order to have a “justification”~no matter how lame duck~for the police to brutally clamp down on ALLof the protestors. FACT. I saw this play out numerous times. The coming actions are not JUST about institutional rascism, although that is the current direction these actions are being targeted for, but also about CLASS: the “Haves” vs. the “Have Nots”. Look at the legislative attacks on women’s rights: the vetoing of the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the difficulty getting the Violence Against Women Act REINSTATED, the attacks on women’s reproductive rights and choices ALL OVER the nation. So just right there, looking at rascism and sexism, you have well over 75% of the population under some kind of governmentally mandated attack: oppression/suppression/ repression. Then there is the utter failure called the war on drugs, which has been responsible for MILLIONS of incarcerations targeting primarily minorities, and the FACT that prisoners are subject to slavery, which greatly benefits the prison/industrial connections, We also have voter suppression tactics, illegal election funding, illegal gerrymandering of districts, polling place illegal actions, and a rigged not-so-supreme court electing government officials. WAKE UP.

      • ummm.... says:

        @phlyfiremama
        Thank you!

Also, it literally (I’m not exaggerating here) baffles me that people can call more than 3 MONTHS OF PROTESTING “violent”. Ferguson would be one giant fire pit if the protesters were constantly looting and destroying things. The 2 posters above are a hilarious display of blaming the majority for the misdeeds of a very small group of deviants. It’s speaks to mis-education through media. It’s so sad to me.

      • Nina says:

        Thank you so much.

      • Angie says:

Yeah that’s a pretty well known tactic. It’s been done for years My Uncle told me about ringers sent in to incite violence at anti-war protests. I’m sure it goes even further back. 🙁

  4. als says:

    Amazing hashtags

    • LadyMTL says:

#Yourbangsarethirsty made me laugh out loud. Love it!

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

Yes, indeed. The irony of ThirsTay calling out the media (!) for paying attention to who she’s dating/dated/might be dating/would like to date is just great. She must feel like Dr. Frankenstein with a monster of her own creation that’s clearly now out of her control.

  5. Erinn says:

I want her hair. I don’t care if the bangs are heavy. I want it. I’d love to have legs that look as long as hers as well, but I can accomplish the hair haha.

When I saw the photos of Karlie and Swift at the concert – I realized that my friends and I look like that from time to time. Haven’t kissed them. But when drinking, excited, and you can barely hear, we’ve sometimes held each others face and talked super loud. I’m realizing now that it does look odd, but when you’re drinking you don’t really care.

    • Veronica says:

That’s what I figured was going on, too. Those clubs get pretty loud, so I figured they were just talking close together so they could hear one another.

  6. Kiddo says:

    #TimeMagisthirstierthantheBangz

  7. Farah says:

I don’t think she knows the meaning of that word. Oh Tay Tay.

  8. scout says:

She must be “dating” Putin then!Accused/nominated by association!!! 😀

  9. Allie says:

That tweet really annoyed me. Like, she is the thirstiest of all celebrities, even though she doesn’t need to be. Her stupid pap walks through NYC, documenting her celeb friends on her Instagram all the time, going on every talk show and award show known to man to promote this album (or even just herself)…but then pretends to be upset when the media is interested on her? If the media wasn’t interested in her, she wouldn’t be where she is now! You know she’s loving the attention so don’t pretend otherwise.

    • Kiddo says:

She likes to play the ‘above it all’ game.
      #notbuyingit
      #stillboredtotears

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

Um, yeah. She has either changed her PR tactic, which is likely since her rep used grown up bad words like “crap” in the denial and she also swung hard, or ThirsTay and her people legitimately afraid of what this rumor will do to her image with her nine year old fanbase . And yet she’s performing at VS while dressed like a Rocky Horror performer. Nah.

      #TimemagjumpsthesharkwithThirsTaynomination

    • theoneandonly says:

At some point you have to think people are just getting flat out payed off. How can a celebrity that is now 100 fabrication be interesting? Time should be spending some time trying to show millenials that the printed medium is still viable and far superior, though not as flashy, to the visual medium in the conveyance of news/events.

    • Veruca Salt says:

Thank you! It will be a shame for humanity if she gets voted as Times person of the year. And the irony in all this is that if she does win, it is because of her #thirst.

  10. Syko says:

Oh, please. Surely someone somewhere in the world has done something noteworthy this year. She is not one of them.

  11. Tiffany27 says:

Do people even care about Time Magazine tho?

    • Jaderu says:

What’s pissing me off is I’m going to have to wait till my next dentist appointment to find out if Tay Tay got the honor.

      • Ag says:

LOL. does anyone buy/care about these magazines anymore (sadly?) besides doctors’ offices? highly doubtful. this is a PR stunt a’la the vogue/kardashian one, albeit a more budget one.

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

      @Jaderu- Haha!

@Tiffany27- Exactly this. Newsweek went down this year and everyone in the magazine industry is desperate to have a job just like everyone in the music industry, ironically enough. So yes, this is an attention grab. Didn’t they do something like this last year too, where they had a public vote on their website that included mindless celebs for PR, but when the time came to pick the cover, it went to someone real? Go Ferguson! They will be a disgrace if they pick her. They won’t though.

  12. Q says:

I think the Ferguson protesters are getting it this year.

  13. j.eyre says:

I believe Time Magazine is trolling us.

  14. Franny Days says:

I thought her tweet was funny *blushing face emoji*

  15. BooBooLaRue says:

This must be a sure sign of the end of times.

  16. OTHER RENEE says:

No way. She was just on the cover of Time a few weeks ago. Not gonna happen.

  17. embee says:

No Queen Beyoncé on the list? I have no idea who will get it. Don’t really care too much

  18. TotallyBiased says:

Hmmm..Baby Dragonflys are connecting her to Tom Hiddleston as well, because she JUST followed him on Twitter and she only follows, like, a hundred fifty people.
And they’ve been paired up in some severely click-baity articles.
But *my* question is–when did she ever meet The Hiddles?
    #NotAGoodIdea #ButGazelleBabies!

  19. Veronica says:

Taylor’s own comments aren’t as problematic to me, but I have very mixed feelings about how her PR rep handled the KK allegations. There are plenty of ladies who do kiss other ladies, so it’s not that far out of the realm of possibility. I get that it’s frustrating to constantly have your every action scrutinized into something not even resembling it’s original intent, but there are gentler ways to say, “I’m not making out with my best gal pal.”

I could see why she’s up for the shortlist. Her career’s remained on a steady upward climb since the age of fourteen, which would be impressive enough on its own, but throw in her business/PR savvy and the control she has over her own product, and that’s pretty remarkable for a 24-year old female artist. This being said, I do think the Ferguson protests should take it, if only because of the significance of their fight and the way it’s resonated with black communities around the country.

    • Alyce says:

As a Bi woman and Taylor Swift fan, I agree with you that they could have phrased it better. I think though that she’s mostly just annoyed that the media romantically links her to pretty much anyone she spends any time with.

Not gonna lie though, I really hope she and Karlie are a couple! It would be great to have a mainstream Bi (or possibly even lesbian) pop star with the following that Swift has. Plus I think they’re hot together 😉

    • Bob Loblaw says:

I’m straight and I think it’s odd that she, or her PR rep, are rushing to deny the claim or acting offended by it. This is not the 1950’s, nobody cares if you kissed a girl and liked it. Who hasn’t kissed a girl at some point?

      • Mila says:

Because she made all this effort this time around with the release of this new album to move the spotlight FROM her love life to moving, independence, NYC, her girlfriends, and away from boys… stopped dating for 2 years and made efforts to show and repeat that she is NOT dating. Now, it’s like well… ok… if we can’t pair her with boys… we’ll go with girls! And now she can’t even hang out with girls anymore without the media pouncing on whether she is dating them?

        I can understand the frustration.

  20. M says:

If Swifty & Putin threw down in a kiddie pool full of jello for the title I’d watch! My money’s on her giving him a “high foot” for the take down.

  21. Deedee says:

I like TSwizzle, but there’s nothing wrong with kissing Kloss.

  22. Jayna says:

The Little Monsters will be out in full twitter force if that happens.

  23. annieanne says:

Time Magazine’s Person of the Year should long since have been re-named Time Magazine “Person or Persons That Will Get Our Dying Magazine the Most Press Coverage of the Year”

  24. Veruca Salt says:

Oversaturation of Swift. Please make it stop. The lapping up of the attention is TOO MUCH

  25. St says:

Mass murderer Vladimir Putin as person of the year. Great job Time.

  26. Laura says:

it’s hypocritical for a celebirty like her to call others thirsty

  27. Syko says:

I just saw that the ebola fighters got it. Good work, Time.

  28. Mila says:

It’s not that she is against being shipped with Karlie… she even kinda supports a light shipping by liking posts of them of twitter/tumblr… i think the frustration stems from the fact that she made all this effort with the release of 1989 to move the spotlight FROM her love life to moving, independence, NYC, her girlfriends, and away from boys… stopped dating for 2 years and made efforts to show and repeat that she is NOT dating. Now, it’s like well… ok… if we can’t pair her with boys… we’ll go with girls! And now she can’t even hang out with girls anymore without the media pouncing on whether she is dating them? It must be frustrating after 9 years in the spotlight… and I can get her slight annoyance.

Plus, I found the statement harmless and self-deprecating. I like she asked the media to accusing her FRIENDS, not herself of dating everyone. Lol
