Simon Cowell is too busy to meet President Obama

Perhaps Simon Cowell doesn’t appreciate the American presidency because he’s British. That must be the reason he was too busy to meet President Obama. As Cowell told the story to Jay Leno, Obama wanted to have dinner with Cowell, but they couldn’t get their schedules straight.

Was this just some throwaway story for The Tonight Show audience, or would President Obama really invite him to dinner? Only to have Cowell refuse? Even people who couldn’t care less about Obama would rearrange their schedules if invited by the president. PR-Inside has more:

Music mogul Simon Cowell snubbed a dinner party invite from newly appointed U.S. president Barack Obama – insisting he was too busy to make time for the American leader.

The American Idol judge boasted to U.S. chatshow host Jay Leno that he was invited to meet the new president at the White House – but cancelled due to his hectic TV schedule.

He told the talkshow host, “He wanted to have dinner and our diaries didn’t quite match. We just didn’t quite connect.”

A shocked Leno replied, “And what were you doing – whitening your teeth? Fixing your hair?”

Obama recently likened U.S. capital Washington D.C. to Cowell’s TV show, saying: “I do think in Washington it’s a little bit like American Idol. But everybody is Simon Cowell. Everybody’s got an opinion.”

Whitening your teeth? Fixing your (flat-top center-parted) hair? Stroking your man-boobs? I’m with Jay on that one. I really hope this was just some story that Cowell made up for an audience rather than a refusal of a formal invitation. Cowell is rude, but I never really thought that he was rude enough to disrespect a president.

HAHA Tooo busy…. Too Busy being an Ass!

  2. sarcra says:

Didn’t the media make a big to-do about Simon saying he wanted to be frozen when he died, and it turned out he was just joking? I find it hard to believe Obama would have time for dinner with Simon Cowell — maybe that was the joke.

  3. Feebee says:

This man’s ego knows no bounds.

  4. mamalama says:

OK…totally off-topic…but that dress is a bad, bad prom dress, and the shoes are totally wrong with it.

And I wonder if Simon realizes that there are colors other than white, black, gray, and navy?! And I think he needs a man bag to go with his man boobs – then he’d have a place for his phone and smokes, and he wouldn’t have to hold them.

  5. geronimo says:

Why would Obama want to have dinner with Simon? Unless he’s looking for a loan….

  6. j. ferber says:

Ego and all, I think Simon is a hoot. I bet he always has his tongue in his cheek. The Brits have a very subtle sense of humor that is not always recognized for what it is on this of the pond.

  7. shorty40 says:

I think I’d have to be busy whitening my teeth or doing my hair as well. I can’t stand Obama and there’s no way in hell I would want to have dinner with him.

  8. Feebee says:

J Ferber — I agree about some potential lost in translation but we’re not all Americans here.

  9. mamalama says:

shorty40 – really? If the President of the United States asked you to dinner you’d be too busy?! Wow – I couldn’t stand Bush (either one), but sure as shootin’ I would have accepted a dinner invite from them.

  10. sassy says:

nice to think not everyone is salivating after Obama.

    ur the man, Simon.

  11. posterboy says:

    He was joking, geez.

  12. barneslr says:

Please. Not everyone is in love with Obama. I wouldn’t be caught dead in his company…I certainly wouldn’t want anyone to think I support him in any way.

My respect for Cowell has grown tremendously because of this.

  13. j. ferber says:

Barneslr, Sorry, but Obama is your president whether you like it or not. He deserves everyone’s support after he’s won the election, particularly in the early days. My God, he’s trying to save our country. We all lose if he fails. Even President Bush, whom I despise, said the first smart thing I’ve ever heard him say, “I don’t want Obama to fail. I love my country more than I love politics.” Amen.

  14. Naomie says:

Oh dear.. Once again I think it’s the media taking it out of context ‘insisting he was too busy to make time for’ – there’s so many parts to the article which lead people to believe Cowell was doing it maliciously but you realise that he’s in fact an extremely busy, busy man who sometimes won’t sleep til early hours as he has so much on his plate, and so much responsibility of artists. Just cause he’s British doesn’t mean he will disrespect American presidency. I’M British and just a couple of hours ago I was discussing how much I ADORE Obama! Everyone I know does. Simon isn’t nasty or arrogant, he’s giving and caring. I have SO much respect for the guy.
