Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci at ‘Women In Film’ event: Botoxy or beautiful?

When Nicole Kidman stepped out for the CMTs last week, I thought she looked crazy-Botoxed. Like, almost unrecognizable. But she made an appearance at last night’s Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards, and she looked almost normal-ish, for her. Of course I still think she’s ‘Toxed and fillered, but it amazes me how radically different she can look from week to week. Nicole wore Nina Ricci Fall 2015 for WIF. The shoes are Brian Atwood. Note: The Daily Mail points out that Nicole had a makeup fail on the red carpet. The problem is the same as always – hi-def makeup on the red carpet.

At the event, Nicole briefly spoke to E! News about her upcoming birthday plans and anniversary plans.

Nicole Kidman has a lot going on in the next couple of weeks. Not only does she turn 48 on June 20, but her and Keith Urban’s ninth wedding anniversary is June 25. I caught up with the Oscar winner tonight at the Women in Film’s Crystal + Lucy Awards and asked how she planned to celebrate the two milestones.

“Keith is doing a gig so I’m going with him,” Kidman said of their anniversary. “I’ll be dancing on the side of the stage and kissing him when he comes off.”

No big dinner plans? “He’s going to organize that,” Kidman said.

As for her bday, Kidman revealed, “I don’t really celebrate a big birthday thing. I always say I get enough attention so I don’t need anymore. I just like to have my family really close and snuggle.”

[From E! News]

Of course she doesn’t celebrate birthdays. She just rubs virgin’s blood and dove feathers on her face by the moonlight and she calls upon the Goddess to stop the aging process. Sigh… I’m just saying, I’d much rather look like Helen Mirren (who will turn 70 this summer) and have fun rather than look like Nicole at 48.

    Frozen and matronly.

    • JudyK says:

      Hate the way she dresses.

    • Kiddo says:

Yes, the style and cut of the dress is very old, and the colors are not complementary to her skin tone. The make-up is tres harsh and the haircolor could stand a change.

    • doofus says:

on the plus side, her upper lip is less “wormy”.

    • Trashaddict says:

The funny thing is, she seems pretty happy these days. But she really, really, really needs to change her stylist..

  2. Sarah says:

Everything about her look is God-awful. And why do her eyes always look bloodshot?

    • Triple Cardinal says:

Drinking? There’s been videos from several events over the last two or three months where she looks giddy and punchy.

    • Willa says:

I’ve noticed that too. Even when she was younger they look red. Michelle Pfeiffer has the same problem.

    • Jaded says:

She’s always had bloodshot eyes and she barely drinks. She’s married to a recovered alcoholic.

    • Trish says:

Maybe she has allergies? My eyes are always blood shot because they’re super sensitive and eye drops can only do so much.

And no, I don’t smoke pot or drink much.

    • Trashaddict says:

Some of us don’t do so well with eye make-up, my eyes are not so happy with mascara and shadow. Definitely redness-inducing.

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

I’ve been wearing contacts for 30+ years, and my eyes are a little red, too… they tell me it’s neovascularization- corneas growing new blood vessels to try to oxygenate themselves under the contact lens. The platform of my lower lid is sometimes more pink, as well, and I feel like sometimes people must think I’ve smoked one.
IDK if she wears them or not. Maybe it is from hooch.

  3. missmerry says:

I just watched her in the movie “before i go to sleep” from 2014.
dont see it. its kinda lame.
but her face moved and her forehead wrinkled and it made me happy.

that being said, she does sometimes seem like shes not enjoying herself, but then i see pics of her and her short hubby and she does look very happy. i hope she is. she is a treasure (in my opinion, i’ve had a girlcrush since Moulin Rouge).

  4. loud noises says:

that one upclose doens’t look bad but the rest look… so weird. the dress is great though.

  5. Allie says:

How does no one catch that make up fail? Isn’t that what people are paid the big bucks for?

  6. AntiSocialButterfly says:

Oh, come on now, She hasn’t changed a bit. Haters.

    • RJ says:

HAHAHA!! Oh. My. god. It’s not just an aging and weight loss thing, it’s like that’s a completely different person (not even a sister or close relation). It’s one thing to have a new face because you suffered severe burns or injury, but to have done something that drastic that to yourself because you believed the original beautiful you wasn’t pretty enough? That’s just sad.

      • AntiSocialButterfly says:

I know. Where did her old nose go? It’s been shaved nothingness. And just how does one de-pug a nose??

  7. Elfie says:

Her feet are way too big for those shoes. Don’t like the dress. Her face is frozen, self defeating for an actress. She can’t act anymore due to facial immobility. What is the point?

  8. Pedro45 says:

Both the sleeve length and the hemline are too long. Tailoring fail.

    • belle de jour says:

^^^Yes. Plus, the colors look like someone’s idea of a ‘fun’ holiday dress to wear at the office Christmas party.

  9. Jayna says:

Her eyebrows are back lower, not all frozen high and arched. Her lips are thinner. Her face is thinner. Looking good as far as that.

She just cakes on the makeup, which does not make her look fresh or younger. I think she is looking so much more like the old Nicole. It’s just that she wears makeup like I remember an older woman in my church did when I was growing up who loved her thick face makeup and heavy powder with too much blush on. Nicole needs to lighten up and go back to a more dewey-faced Nicole. Less is more as far as makeup is concerned..

    • Maria A. says:

The more natural she can go, the better she will look – and I wish she would. Her face is…words fail me.

  10. caitlin says:

The Botox isn’t so bad it’s those dam* fillers that have really f*cked up her face. Why, Nicole? Why?

    • Jayna says:

Her face is back down to being the tiny, thin face she used to have. I don’t see any filler at all, and if so, it must be a tiny amount.

      • tracking says:

I think so, too. Botoxed to hell and back, absolutely, but I don’t see fillers anymore.

  11. Tifygodess says:

Some women don’t like to celebrate birthdays because it’s just another reminder of getting older. I am one of these people, so I get it. I’m turning 35 this August and im in an all out panic. I would also add The fact she’s in an age obsessed profession so I would imagine no one wants a reminder that the clock is ticking away on your career. I can’t knock a woman for wanting to look younger, while her look may not be our “cup of tea” and yes she has (and many others) over toxed I tend to look more at a society that pressures women to inject poison into their faces just to be more pleasing to everyone. It’s a nasty cycle which we all fall prey in one way or another. (Wrinkle creme, makeup…..judging a woman on how she chooses to age 😳…)

    • Kiddo says:

Happy B-day ahead. You’ll survive it and look great at the same time. I’ll mail you some Cheez-its, in advance.

      • Tifygodess says:

@kiddo Thank you and Omg yessssssss!!! I love it. You will find me in a cloud of cheez-it dust flat on the floor.

    • Kitten says:

I’m like that. I don’t GAF about birthdays.
I hated turning 35 but now I’m 36 and it’s like, meh, who cares?

    • doofus says:

I used to hate getting older but then someone gave me the old “getting old is better than the alternative”…meaning, DEATH.

      so…celebrate!

getting older = experience = not taking yourself as seriously = not giving as many f*cks = HAPPIER IN LIFE.

    • Jaded says:

Getting older has become a badge of experience and a definite comfort in my own skin. As I approach my 63rd birthday I feel great, have love in my life and a confidence I never had when I was younger. And as doofus says it means…”not giving nearly as many f*cks”. Believe me, I’d rather be this age than 25 again. Look forward to it, don’t fear it.

      • Tifygodess says:

@kitten , doofus and jaded – thanks ladies I hope to get that IDGAF attitude some day. I’ve always been a spaz about birthdays even as a teen! So sad lol

      • minx says:

Hey, I just turned 63 in May!
And I agree, I’m happier than I was in my 20s.

      • Jaded says:

@minx – hey happy birthday!! Life is good in your sixties isn’t it!!

  12. MinnFinn says:

That dress reminds me of a Lite-Brite. http://www.hasbro.com/litebrite/en_US/

  13. DEB says:

A little botoxy, yes, but beautiful. I love the dress.

  14. Jessica says:

She actually looks great here, a lot more natural than usual. I think the make-up fail is helping her. That HD powder looks great if softly swept across the larger areas of the face. Put it anywhere near the smaller wrinkles around the eyes and mouth though, and it intensifies them tenfold. Photograph that with flash, and every single line you have jumps out.

I actually think the thing that makes her look really strange is her make-up. Yes she’s had plenty of botox and fillers, and she looks bad when it’s really fresh, but most of the time wen we see her it’s pretty settled and she doesn’t look more over-worked than most actresses her age. But she often wears a ton of make-up. I would bet at least 3 primers, a heavy foundation, a light foundation on top to provide the more dewy look, heavy concealer, brightening concealer, and various powders in various different areas. That gives anyone a mask like appearance, but take into account her naturally paper thin skin and the work she’s had done, and it’s no surprise she often looks like a welting wax model. Julianne Moore has a similar issue on the rare occasion she packs on the make-up, but she’s clearly noticed and usually keeps her base products minimal.

  15. MadameJ says:

The makeup problem is the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in the setting powder the makeup artist used. Those ingredients cause a “flash back” when digi flash cameras are used. There are camera friendly products that don’t do this. Most of them are not well known brands you find in sephora. If you’re a high profile celebrity and your makeup artist doesn’t know this then fire them and hire a true professional.

    • Adrien says:

It’s the SPF that’s causing this. Yeah, the TiO and ZnO. And mineral foundations too. Sometimes MUAs test this first on the client to avoid embarrassing powdery shots by taking pics of them w/ flashes but unfortunaley, celebs do not have control of red carpet cameras. These photographers use high powered flashes and therethere plenty of theofon the red carpet.

  16. tacos and tv says:

Her face jumped the shark. It’s bad.

  17. QQ says:

she looks like a 60 year old Baby: Unlined but clearly old looking, too much rouge but cute dress

  18. Size Does Matter says:

She clearly chose a different face from the House of Black and White.

  19. Jen43 says:

    Miss Havisham.

  20. Frosty says:

I kind of love the color of sequins, don’t see that too often, but damn that is matronly dress. And the shoes are god awful.

  21. Tracy says:

Grandmum shoes. Jeeze. Dress is too long and a snooze. Nicole needs to stop looking so scared, throw her head back a little and pose with some relaxed confidence, some actual animation and maybe look down her nose a bit. The chin tuck just makes her look sunken and the thick brows make her eyes disappear into her head. And the orange hair…..sigh….

  22. Ava says:

It’s the makeup. Good lord. She is not really that old! It’s like makeup you would put on a corpse. No offense to morticians. She looks dead. Her hair is damaged. Ugh…she is sooooo beautiful, but I agree with everyone, as you age less makeup looks younger.

  23. Micki says:

Apart from Salma Hayek I can’t think of another woman, who wears midi lenght skirts and dresses. I like her casual style but this lenght is not for me.
So next year Nicole and Keith will celebrate 10 years. Sort of unexpected when I think about the beginning of their marriage.

  24. JENNA says:

If you’re gonna give sh*t to Nicole for using botox, then you should do the same with Sandra Bullock.

  25. Corrie says:

see her face actually looks normal here. i do think we pick on her way too much and ignore the mens face fails but whatev.

  26. Stephanie says:

I think her husband suffers from the “Tom Cruise” syndrome — youthful, boyish looks that also are frozen in time and inappropriate for maturity level. They’re both fails.

  27. Fillipa says:

Gwen Stefani is only couple years younger… Just a thoght

  28. JenniferJustice says:

Loved her fresh and natural in Far and Away. I know she was much younger, but it was the naturalness and little to no make-up (I realize they all have make-up on in movies even it’s too look they aren’t wearing any, but the affect was successful). The frozen face, fake teeth, weird lip, flattened hair, all of it actually ages her and takes away from her once unique look. I worry she is addicted to plastic surgery and botox. She does not play young roles – I doubt she even goes for those types of roles, so why the need to botox and play with her face at the level she does? It would be more realistic to play parts of middle-aged women with a realistic middle-aged face. All I see in her recent movies is a woman playing a middle-aged woman, but not realistic to the character because the character can’t afford and isn’t supposed to be plasticized. It ruins the authenticity of the roles she takes on.

  29. belle de jour says:

Don’t the French have a phrase for “wearing flour all over your face” – as in, caught in public in an embarrassing situation? Might be fitting here.

  30. Rafa says:

So no comments on Keith’s perennial haystack hairstyle that makes that triangle on his forehead or his orange skin? Ok den.

  31. Kath says:

I really don’t understand why everyone cites Helen Mirren as an example of ageing without intervention when she had a facelift! This is not just speculation: there are photos of her out with the bandages around her face.

  32. cujokay says:

I’m sure my great-aunt has that dress in her closet. It is not flattering on her either.

On the other hand, I just want to put Keith Urban in my pocket and bring him home.

  33. Mary Carol says:

She is a movie star. Period. I watched Grace of Monoco last night. It was outstanding, I don’t know why it was panned. Tim Roth is a good actor, but she just ate up the screen. She stole the picture from everyone who was in it. And she looked beautiful. No overly botoxed or anything else. She needs to maintain whatever she was doing to her face that picture. She was glowing. Tom Cruise is NEVER going to replace her. He was a fool to let her go. I think she would be the number one female movie star in the world now if she had never married him.
