In what has become an annual tradition for Taylor Swift, Tay-Tay hosted a giant party at her huge Rhode Island mansion for the 4th of July celebration. Taylor famously loves America’s Independence Day, and I think this is the third year (at least?) that she’s done a big shindig at her Rhode Island place. According to reports, Calvin Harris and Taylor arrived in Rhode Island on July 1, but I’m pretty sure Calvin had to work on the Fourth. But at least they got to have a few days to celebrate! Then Taylor’s girl squad came over, plus Ed Sheeran, and everybody got into the pool with some swan floaties.
Anyway, Calvin Harris & Taylor Swift have become increasingly more and more comfortable with putting their love all over social media. On July 2nd, Calvin posted the photo of Taylor at the grill with the message “She cooks too.” Which is sweet (and slightly patronizing, but mostly cute). Then Swifty posted the photo of Calvin giving her a piggyback ride with the message “Friendly relations between Scotland and America.” And of course Ed Sheeran was included on this Instagram extravaganza too – he came to Rhode Island for the party wearing a bright red coat (get it, redcoat?) and Taylor wrote “When Ed shows up in a red coat for the 4th of July because he just can’t let it go.”
So, is all of this impossibly cute? Of course. Does it make you want to be part of Swifty’s squad? Eh. I wouldn’t fit in with these people. I know that. But I do enjoy looking at the photos. I’m sort of surprised Kendrick Lamar wasn’t invited to Rhode Island this year.

I have no doubt that people will have plenty of not very nice to say, just like last year’s party, but I think they’re a pretty cute couple and that party looks like a great time, even if the whole world does seem to need to document every single thing they do.
Mostly seeing negative comments here, but it looks like a pretty good time to me! I would go to that party just for the pool.

For some reason I am reminded of a Ralph Lauren ad when I look at those photos. Taylor and friends look like they are having fun for the camera, but I wonder how much fun they are really having when the camera is not taking pictures?
I was coming here to say, if you don’t post your pics on social media then it didn’t happen. I spent the Fourth smoking pot with a 52 yr old man-child attorney friend. Wish I could post about that stupid bit of fun.
Sounds like more fun than this. I spent mine drinking and trying out about a dozen ice cream/frozen yogurt/gelato flavors. No social media, no pictures. I’m Swifty’s age. I don’t get the obsession and am grateful for friends who don’t either. We had fun and the rest of the world will have to take it on faith.

Come on now, they are having a fantastic time! 10-15 minutes prep work for each photo and then 20 more to decide how wonderful they all look and which ones are the absolutest bestest to post.

This is what they (models, actors, entertainers) do for a living, so prepping and posing for the camera is second nature to them. Maybe they keep the ‘real’ moments to themselves or maybe they don’t know what a ‘real’ moment is anymore.
In addition to that, Swifty will want everyone to see her coupled up pics so when they break up and she does a blind-item song about the relationship, the public will have pics to help then decide the obvious events she is referring to in her song. Oh Swifty always covers all her money making bases. Guys that date her remind me of women who date men with bad relationship records thinking they will be the exception. Swifty’s men think they will be the one to escape the bad breakup song making it all their fault.

Exactly what I thought! That’s a grill that was organized by either a professional or a friend who loves to cook. After looking at the jumping picture I feel pretty sure that neither Taylor or her friends cook for fun.

Because their fanbases intersect, she’s the hottest thing at the moment so his cred rises, and a whole bunch of other popularity-seeking reasons. I will say they seem like genuine friends though, so it’s a win-win for everybody.

Totally agree with you. Taylor is very “vanilla.” Her style is very old lady-ish. I think maybe a part of it is that she tries to protect her image because she has a young fanbase, but even her body language never reads anything but pre-pubescent.
Looking @ pictures of Calvin and his ex Rita Ora make his relationship with Taylor even less feasible. He was very hands-on, touchy-feely with Rita and with Taylor, it seems like it’s just one giant photo op. They look like they’re on different wave lengths.

I don’t think I could be friends with someone like Taylor. I don’t understand why you have to document EVERYTHING and put it online. Especially during a party. It just seems like being her friend, you have to be perky and sweet and always ON. And it really seems like she’s a friend collector too…..so I wouldn’t even want to hang out with her.
And most people on my FB posted pics the day after 4th of July, and it was mainly fireworks.
I have to agree with you. I do like Taylor and the message that she puts out there about supporting other women and not being a “hater” because there is so much cattiness between women so often, but everything she does is always so ridiculously contrived. I don’t mind the fact that everything is documented and put online, but I do mind that everything is so meticulously set up. It isn’t fun to be somewhere and have to worry about everyone setting up for photo ops. A lot of my friends post a lot of stuff on Instagram and Facebook, but it’s genuine photos, not something that it looks like it took 30 tries to get right. She has done a lot of stuff that I think is great, like hosting her fans at her apartment, standing up for a lot of artists with Apple Music, and she’s very good to her fans, but I would like to see her act more natural. Her mother has said that she didn’t have any friends growing up and I think that maybe she feels like she has to put on the way that she does.
Given the “big names” in the media right now that get the most attention, I would much rather see pictures of Taylor acting bland and taking pictures that look ridiculously put on than I would the alternative, which seems to be Kylie Jenner’s on going love affair with plastic surgery, daddy issues inspired slutty clothing, and pathetic relationship with a Z-list rapper.
She talks about not being a hater and being supportive but then she publicly squabbles with others and criticizes them for not blindly supporting her. She has some qualities to recommend her but anybody who works this hard to sugarcoat their image is not somebody to look to as a role model.
for the last few years, my husband’s cousin’s wife puts up a miminum of 100 photos of every family get together on facebook and will snap photos of you eating, talking, sneezing, picking a wedgie getting out of the river etc and they’ll end up online but nothing bad of her or her kids is ever posted…I got so mad last time that I told her if she put up anything of me from the 4th this year I won’t be going to Christmas at Grandmas speciifically because she made me uncomfortable.
She avoided me all day yesterday but at least I won’t be tagged in a photo eating a hot dog again like last year that was mocked by a lot of her friends because it admittingly is a terrible photo if you have a dirty mind.
People need to just live in the moment anymore.

Yes I am admittedly Generation X “old” but I cant do all the social media. I like my smart phone, I’m on Instagram but I prefer to live my life vs document it. We have toddlers, and my friends and family always ask for photos of kiddos but honestly I can either live in the moment or ruin it by trying to document it all. Maybe I’m slow but I can’t live it and photograph/video it.
I’m 48, I’m on Facebook sometimes but that’s it. I don’t want to spend all my time on-line. I cherry pick what I want and pretty much ignore the rest. I have noticed that some of my friends and families have lost their shit when it comes to social media. It’s like electronic diarrhea and it’s not pretty. People need to have boundaries and recognize we don’t actually need to know where they are every second or what they’re eating or how they feel about it. It’s so incredibly BORING.
I’ll be honest, I look forward to photos from Taylor’s 4th of July parties every year.

RI resident here y’all! This house is GORGEOUS, sitting on a cliff high above the water right on the CT border. Most Rhode Islanders think it’s actually pretty awesome that Taylor is putting us on the map as a destination location for summer!! We rely on our tourism industry in the summer months. (Although I don’t agree with a comment she made about a year back that she taking up residence has driven prices up at the Ocean House hotel near her. Prices always go up in the summer.)
My cousin was working there Saturday night and said he was not allowed to take any pics at all, and had to sign something saying he wouldn’t discuss what happened/who he saw/etc. VERY private.
I really don’t think posting 8 pics over 3 days is that big of a deal. Most of my friends posted 10 pics on July 4th alone. Gigi, the HAIM girls, and a few others took/posted pics too. Is the jumping one staged? Yes. Have I staged pics with my friends too? Yes. Does that mean I’m fake? No. She’s actually done the jumping pic the last 2 years as well so it’s sort of a thing you could say…
I did notice that none of the same people from last year were there this year so that’s a little curious (Emma Stone, Lena D., etc) but not everyone can just pack up and go chill in RI for 3 days so who are we to say who did or did not get an invite?
