After the past week in politics, everyone hoped that both Alec Baldwin and Melissa McCarthy would do guest spots on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live. Many people have been begging Melissa in particular to carve out more time in her schedule to play Sean Spicer every single weekend, just because her “Spicey” is so deadly accurate and scary-funny. Well, we were in luck. SNL really delivered this weekend with Jimmy Fallon as host, and Baldwin and McCarthy both made great appearances. Here’s the cold open, with Baldwin’s Trump trying to decide who won The Apprentice: White House, either Steve Bannon or Jimmy Fallon’s version of Jared Kushner. This is pretty much how it happens.
Call me crazy, but I enjoyed Fallon’s “monologue,” which was just a really great dance party for his cover of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.”
Here’s Melissa McCarthy as Spicey, who absolutely used to dress up as the Easter Bunny during the George W. Bush administration. Melissa’s Spicey had a lot to work with, given the Real Sean Spicer’s epic meltdown about Holocaust Centers last week. Well, guess what? “Spicey finally made a mistake!” Melissa’s Spicey explained it this way: “And yeah, I know they’re not really called Holocaust Centers. DUH. I know that! I’m aware. I clearly meant to say Concentration Clubs.” The writing here is impeccable, as is McCarthy’s Spicey.
I did think this skit was funny. The punchline was great.
And God help me, this made me laugh so hard. Like, laugh-out-loud.
Screencaps from SNL.
I managed to hold out until the “Passover like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” part of the skit, and then I just lost it. One of my coworkers is an observant Jew, and she’s been having a blast with “Holocaust centers” all week.
She looks like a Pope piggy bank. Ridiculous.
That’s the point @multiple characters, trump fan.
How do you know what Veronica’s co-worker looks like, Sean?
THis was the best thing of the entire show. I was laughing SO hard. Can she win an award for these skits? Dead on
Agree, she’s great. I could watch the you tube videos of “Spicey” over and over and still laugh my ass off!
LMAO of at “Crouching Tiger hidden dreidel”.
I’m glad Jared and his stupid flak jacket ensemble didn’t escape their mockery. They did a great job on the details. And Melissa was great as usual but I have a hard time mustering up much laughter when, as she/Spicey acknowledges, we’re not likely to live another year.
Did you notice that Fallon had a large sock stuffed in those preppy Jared pants? I thought I die laughing.
Saw it and laughed so hard we had to run it back in order to hear the lines. Fallon was perfect posing in his GQ war zone attire.
Hahaha….had to go back and check out the sock!
I thought Fallon really had Kushner’s stance and facial expressions right, he has a particular way of standing (or should I say ‘posing’?) and I thought Fallon nailed it.
I thought the Trump bit was more like America’s Next Top Model with the picking.
It’s scary how accurate they are. /shudder
Yes, I was able to laugh at the first few SNL skits but as this Trump sh^tshow continues, my anger is starting to heat up again. We should NOT be subjected to this. It’s ridiculous that our country has come to this.
The satire is too close to the truth to be funny anymore, but I’m glad they aren’t letting up.
i didn’t care for the deathly serious version of let’s dance. while his singing was fine, the desperation was bizarre. and not funny. or entertaining.
Melissa is just so perfect as Spicey. “Everybody shut up, shut up, so I can apologize” and “The leader of Syria, Bazooka Phylicia Ahmad Rashad.” OMG! We were laughing so hard that the dog walked out in disgust.
I’ve actually come to appreciate Fallon when he was SNL and he wasn’t bad this weekend. He seems more joyful when he’s performing with his peers. I dunno, it’s just an impression I get from him.
Melissa McCarthy is a national treasure. Just a once in a generational talent. Even the ‘bad’ movies she’s been in make me smile. Her Spicer is genius and terribly frightening in its accuracy.
Everytime a SNL alumni returns to host It’ll be a great show ! the opening actually made me get up and dance!
The basketball scene was funny.
Melissa owned it. I loved the Kushner/Bandon bit too. Can’t get enough of Bannon/Grim Reaper.
When Spicey said that the Jews were the 4th worst people on the planet, I shuddered because I know there are people out there that believe this. (I’m Jewish.) And the line about enjoy Easter because this might be your last one…. the satire is so scary these days… just thisclose to the edge.
I did laugh about the Jew puppet passing over Pharaoh, though.
Whyyyyyyy won’t SNL let Canadians watch?
