Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars, 28, has been open and honest about the fact that she suffered from anorexia in the past. In 2012 she told Cosmopolitan magazine that she used to go days without eating and that she used to work out for hours at a time. She seems to have gotten a handle on it, although she’s still a small person. Anyway Lucy posted the above photo of herself to which a male troll responded, telling her to “eat a hamburger” and that “No straight men are signing off on that anorexic look,” as if a woman’s main purpose in life is to be attractive to misogynist assholes. Lucy schooled the guy and even followed up on it when he responded.
I am disgusted that a man would even think of saying these absolutely awful words to a woman. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Then the dude tweeted a gif of Idris Elba giving the thumbs up with the word “neat,” as if Idris was in his heman woman hater’s club (he’s not!) and Lucy told him bye:

Then the douchebag argued with more people in the comments, telling them to starve themselves, to get a hobby, and that they were disappointments to their parents. He also made racist insults against other Twitter users because of course he did.
I really like how Lucy responded, she sounds like a badass mom, like “you should be ashamed, young man.” That’s the way to shut it down.
Anorexia is a serious mental disorder, it’s not a disease of vanity and it’s not something to throw around lightly. I don’t know why I’m giving this troll so much credit though, he’s just mad at every woman who refuses to sleep with him. (Basically every woman.)

So many men seem to think that everything women do is about them and for them, in fact our whole existence is for them.

I can honestly say my husband isn’t like that at all…his mother raised him right…but almost every other man I’ve known or been involved with was pretty much how you described.

As an aside, and I don’t want to tell you how to write — but the using “female” in place of “women” yet still calling men “men” and not “males” makes them seem more human than us. I know it’s part of the popular lingo but it’s one of the many insidious ways our culture seeks to dehumanize and minimize us.

I’m so happy to read these comments. I absolutely HATE that men feel as though women’s bodies are public property. I have had a few occasions in my life where men have made comments on my body and it just infuriates me that they seem to think that’s perfectly ok. News flash: women are not merely decorative and the fact that they think their opinion on MY body is welcome is just SO messed up! Sorry for the rant.
Edit to add – and why is it that men feel as though we women can be judged by our looks but they never apply those same exacting standards to themselves. Example – the hideous Donald Trump giving women scores out of ten! Gahhhh!!!
He’s a dick. Men shouldn’t have a say in what women look like. But I have had several dear darling friends who wanted to act and starved themselves or had bulimia and for the most part got tonnes of attention from guys and they were obviously not well but got tonnes of reward from it personally. They were obsessed with their beauty. As opposed to my super academic friends who were seriously anorexic and ended up in hospital and now run policies on refugees and the like. I get it’s a mental illness about control and I have seen it up close a lot. And there a difference.

Yeah, I’m surprised that so many celebs handle their own IG, FB, Twitter etc. accounts. If I were famous, I would outsource that to some pros and not bother with it too much.

I think his behavior is disgusting, but I also haven’t forgotten that she recently called an old photo of herself ‘fat’. She was noticeably thinner the last season of PLL. I think it’s pretty disgusting that she called a healthy photo of herself ‘fat’ when she is a role model to young women.
But she looks extremely thin and malnourished. I don’t think she’s ever looked this way. It’s alarming. And I certainly wouldn’t want to c her on any magazine covers promoting that body frame. I think it’s ok to point out the obvious and not b an asshole about it.

I have said it before telling a thin person they are starving, or abnormal is body shaming. I have been confronted and accused of being anorexic, and I am not, and it gets old. Her anorexia in the past is not a reason to accuse her now.
