Last week we talked about the very happy news that Netflix has confirmed season two of my newest obsession, Bridgerton. We also found out that Season two will chronicle the love life of the eldest Bridgerton brother, Anthony. Which made me less enthusiastic since Anthony was my least favorite character. Despite being reassured by readers of the books that Anthony is quite charming and not a bore, my biggest question about Season two is if we would be seeing more of Rege-Jean, I mean the Duke of Hastings?
Duke lovers far and wide I have good tidings for thee. Showrunner Chris Van Dusen was interviewed on Today with Hoda & Jenna and he confirmed that the Duke and Daphne will be making appearances in Season two. Chris said his hope is that the Duke and consequently Daphne will always be a part of Bridgerton going forward. And I couldn’t be happier. Below are a few excerpts from Chris’s interview on Today via Deadline:
“I hope so,” Van Dusen said when asked whether Page and Dynevor’s characters will be back next season. “They are now of course the Duke and Duchess of Hastings but in my mind they will always be Bridgertons and I think they will always be part of the show.”
“I genuinely have no idea what they’re going to do with the second season, but I imagine if they’re following the books, then it would be Anthony’s journey,” she said. “I’m sure Daphne will end up getting involved. But yeah, I do wonder what it looks like. I’m excited to find out.”
Van Dusen confirmed that production on Season 2 starts in late spring in London for what is believed to be a six-month shoot.
“We have a bunch of new characters we are going to be introducing,” he said. “Anthony is going to have a love interest next season, and I think it’s going to be as sweeping and moving and as beautiful as viewers of the first season have come to expect from the show.”
Like I said before, I would watch Season 2 if I can get more of Rege-Jean and if they cast a dark skinned Black woman or South Asian woman for Kate. Rege-Jean and Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury) are what made Season one for me. I also loved Nicola Coughlin’s Penelope. Daphne has grown on me over time. I honestly wouldn’t have watched the show if Shondaland and Rege (specifically) weren’t attached to the project. As far as Anthony’s love interest, Kate, is concerned, I have joined a reader in her campaign to get Simona Brown cast as Kate. Simona is stunning and I am here for it. I also believe that Kate will need to have just as much charisma as Rege’s Duke to carry the season. Jonathan Bailey as Anthony will need to turn up the heat in his character’s personality. Chris Van Dusen has done an amazing job in fleshing out the main characters and making them extremely likeable and sexy. He has done a great job capturing romance and creating intimacy with touch and conversation.
Chris also confirmed that they will begin filming Season two of Bridgerton in late Spring in London, so hopefully we will get Season two by Christmas 2021. So, as I patiently wait for Chris and Netflix to announce the cast, I am ordering the second book as I hear it is one of the best books out of the Julia Quinn Bridgerton series. Maybe book two will convert me into liking Anthony. Also, I have been forgoing watching Bridgerton for the 100th times and I have instead fallen down the hilariously dark dark world of Bridgerton TikTok. There are so many brilliant folks making fanfiction content on that app. I have also gotten my Rege-Jean fix like a fiend by devouring every interview I can find on Youtube. It is annoying that not only is Rege hot, he is also intelligent, witty and seemingly empathetic. Anyway, enough of my Rege obsession.

Haven’t even watched the show yet but just here to say that man is so god damn beautiful and fine that even my lesbian best friend wants him and says ‘he makes me tingly i’m confused’!
lmao! he makes all of our lady bits tingle….i am hollering right now.
I’m 75 and love this handsome man. He looks like my husband did when we married. My hubby was half Tahitian and half Hawaiian with a smidgeon of English. Very handsome man just like Rege-Jean is. What a total hunk!!!
Definitely read book 2. It fleshes out Anthony’s character so well and the issues/responsibilities relating to his role/burden as head of the family. They did him wrong in the first season but I think if they explore his character enough in the second season it will go a long way to helping viewers like him more in season 1.
The Duke and duchess are in one of the best scenes in the book (pall mall) so I think we will def see them featured in the season. We see Daphne in every book but sometimes only briefly, it will be interesting to see how they flesh out her and Simon’s roles in the rest of the series.
I adore the pall mall scene. Honestly I am excited- I really enjoy Anthony and Kate’s love story. Plus, it is more awkward, hilarious, banter-filled dynamic.
I would watch a Duke prequel with just him traveling the word and being his seductive self.
I would also love to see Rege as Bond.
Yeah I would tune in for that! I pretty much just watched season 1 for him.
He’d be a fantastic Bond.
As a fan of the books, I find it really strange how much people loved Simon and Daphne and say they won’t watch the rest of the series without them because they’re mostly non existent in the rest of the books and the book fans were quite happy with that. It’s funny how the least popular couple in the series are now so in demand. I’m happy for them to get the same amount of airtime as they got in the books, show up for a scene of two but let the other characters have their time to shine. Plus Rege and Phoebe can work on other things, so everyone wins.
I just read the first four books in the last month, and the only reason I really liked the first one was bc i kept picture Reje-Jean as the Duke. Otherwise – the first book was meh, the second was much better IMO.
People keep asking if they should read the first book or skip ahead to the rest and I always think they don’t need to read the book because they know what happens but I also want them to read it so they’ll know why I dislike Simon and Daphne so much and understand what a hatchet job they did on Anthony in season one.
Daphne grew on me too. I don’t think she’s a terrible actress, quite charming actually, but her styling on that show was terrible. She’s wayyyyy prettier in real life, striking really, but those baby bangs do her absolutely no favors and her makeup always looked dull and washed out.
Agreed. Baby bangs trauma. I think they dull her shine so she’s more relatable and more viewers will see themselves in her.
Hilariously, the entire time I was watching the show I was thinking “Do I want bangs again? I think I want bangs now.” And as soon as it was over I’m like “NOPE!” All these beautiful people putting weird ideas in people’s heads.
Phoebe is the actress so that’s clearly who Oya is referring to.
I love Phoebe but the character Daphne is as dull as dishwater
I don’t know the actress from anything else, but I didn’t get the appeal of the character of Daphne that much either. Plus she looked so young it was a little weird.
Does anyone else think that Rege-Jean resembles The Weekend? Maybe that’s why I don’t see the hot yet. I also haven’t watched the show yet so maybe I have to see him in motion. I’m finally going to watch this week
no ma’am. LOL
Lol , OK
I have just read book two in the series and I can confirm that Anthony Bridgerton is indeed a nice guy. Ask Penelope Featherington. I will say no more. I have ordered book 3 and can’t wait to read it.
Enough about who is going to play Kate Sheffield I want to know who is going to play Newton.
lol your Rege obsession is completely justified! I will never read any of these books so it’s great to hear him confirm that we will see more of Simon and Daphne in the future.
I read the books a while back and I really enjoyed the first four a lot, but the premise of the 5th book didn’t appeal to me at all and instead of skipping it and starting the 6th book, I just stopped reading them. For those who have read the books, do you recommend books 7 & 8 (Hyacinth & Gregory’s stories)?
Honestly this is where I am. I have no interest in book 5 and wonder if I should power through it, skip it, or just call it a day with books 1-4?
Hopefully we’ll get some guidance 🙂
Lol I am thinking of stopping at book four too. Book four is Colin and Penelope and I definitely want to read about those two.
I am only reading the books because of the Netflix series and its colour blind casting. I never thought I would be into romance novels. I shall forever be grateful to Shonda Rhimes for bringing this to Netflix and I bet Julia Quinn must be over the moon. She gets a whole new audience. It win-win for everyone.
I am reading book 5 right now and I have found the first half meh. It seemed to get better around the 50% mark. Book 6 & 7 I have been told are much better by some of my trusted book friends. I think Quinn had to get used to writing without Whistledown to fall back on. So far my favourite part involved the 4 brothers being brother-like to Eloise!
ACK! I can not get into this show. I must be old because I look at the cast and I see KIDS..
Sad day for me.
Lol don’t feel bad – regency love stories aren’t for everyone.
