Taylor Swift made an appearance at last night’s BRIT Awards in London. She knew she would receive the Global Icon Award, so that’s why she showed up. She was actually the first non-English artist to win that award, and the first woman. Tay wore this two-piece Miu Miu which… isn’t bad. It’s not “great” but the fit is better than I would have expected from Miu Miu. I guess post-pandemic fashion is going to be very midriff-y, going by this look and all of the midriffs at the Oscars. With this look, people think Taylor is giving a clue about the next album she’s re-recording, or perhaps already re-recorded. She wore these kinds of looks during her 1989 era. But the hair, you guys! Those damn bangs are making my eye twitch and, while she did have bangs during that era, they didn’t look like this.
As for Taylor’s speech… she was presented the award by Maisie Williams, and there was a video tribute and all of that. Tay prepared a speech and I’m happy to say that it wasn’t all… um, Tay’s typical speechifying.
Swift thanked the people who made appearances during a sizzle reel about her career, including Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Zoë Kravitz and Annie Lennox. (“Taylor Swift is the same girl I met when I was 15. And she cares so deeply for her fans,” Gomez said in it. “I wish I could be there to support you and hang out with you. You are amazing.”) Swift then thanked her collaborators, including Jack Antonoff, Justin Vernon, Aaron Dessner and her boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
“I want to thank my friends and family who know exactly who they are, whose opinion of me never changed whether my stock was up or down,” she said. “If there’s one thing that I’ve learned it’s that you have to look around you every day and take note of the people who have always believed in you and never stop appreciating them for it. Never take them for granted. There are so many incredible new artists in this room tonight, and a lot of people watching who have goals and ambitions and dreams for themselves. I need you to hear me when I say that there is no career path that comes free of negativity. If you’re being met with resistance, that probably means that you’re doing something new.”
“If you’re experiencing turbulence or pressure, that probably means you’re rising. And there might be times when you put your whole heart and soul into something, and if it is met with cynicism or skepticism, you cannot let that crush you, you have to let it fuel you. We live in a world where anyone has the right to say anything that they want about you at any time, but just please remember that you have the right to prove them wrong.”
This is particularly well-said: “We live in a world where anyone has the right to say anything that they want about you at any time, but just please remember that you have the right to prove them wrong.” I mean, she always positions herself as the underdog, the outsider fighting the system, the victim of every situation. But this is growth, for her to acknowledge that anyone can talk sh-t and you can use that to prove them wrong.

I love her bangs and her hair, the hair to me is her Red era.
Ugh, I wish she’d give the bangs a rest already. That said, kudos to her for committing to them for all these years. They must take forever to style.
I’ve had bangs forever and they don’t take me any extra time to style at all.
Does anyone else think that the crown and the bangs look like a wig?
Definitely like them better than the curly bangs from Cardigan.
Eh, I like her in bangs, and the straight hair looks good ¯_(ツ)_/¯ While she is VERY fit, is it a little bit of weight gain makes her face look so different though? I almost didn’t recognize her!
I think it’s just she’s in her 30s. When you see her childhood photos, it’s the same face, she’s just going back to it and she’s starting to look like her mum a lot more. Same as me, I look so much like my mom now, and that started happening after turning 30
@Laalaa LOL I’m looking more and more like my dad!
Many have commented on it
My dad was a handsome man
It did not translate into me being a handsome, or even particularly pretty woman.
What I can say is I ‘grew’ into my face in my 30’s
Which happened to be my happiest decade
(so far)
I’m not a fan of bangs in general for adults. Often cute on kids.
She looked beautiful! I think the 1989-ish outfit might be a hint that’s the next re-record she’s releasing.
I don’t think there’s any way it’s not, and I’m excited! It’s a summer album, it’s arguably(?) her biggest album and that Wildest Dreams snippet already came out for that awful looking horse movie trailer.
I’m convinced it’ll be 1989 – bottom line is that will be the biggest money spinner for her (and therefore the biggest kick in the tits for Scooter whatshischops), and as you say, that Spirit of the Camaroons thingy already had WD in it.
I love her hair and her outfit. It’s very age appropriate for a pop star at an awards show.
I think midriff styles are coming back too and I’m kind of glad for it, because I feel like there is no pressure for me, as a 39 year old woman who has had two kids, to try to keep up with that style, lol. I’ll stick to my skinny jeans and my side parts.
Taylor’s outfit looks nice here but I can’t with the bangs.
She looked really pretty and while I’m not a bangs person, they sort of fit here.
Im not a big fan of bangs in general so thats a no from me. I love the top but im not too sure about the skirt. It looks nice from the back but kind of bleh at the front.
I know she doesn’t have an ounce of fat on her but that skirt looks like its giving her muffin top. Its not flattering, at least in these pics. The waist line of the skirt should either be lowered or higher, I can decide which.
Yeah, she’s a skinny girl. Miu Miu did her dirty here.
So glad someone else said it first. How in the world could they find something that unflattering for her amazing figure? They knew it would be on camera, right?
Even with no fat, she still has skin. If there’s no stretch, there’ll always be muffin top.
The skirt is ill fitting that was my point, not her weight. Either it needs to be a size larger, lower or higher on her waist.
I didn’t think you were talking about her weight. Just that with a skirt that tight the fabric has to have some stretch, not just the waistband, but all of it. With no stretch I don’t think it would matter where the waistband fell – it would still cut in and make a little muffin top.
Agreed – the waistband just looks cheap, like it’s elastic and not a proper band so it’s not laying smooth.
I think the entire thing looks cheap and the top looks like something an influencer would wear under an oversized blazer.
I think the top is as unflattering as the skirt. The whole look could have been so much better.
We don’t know whether she has fat though. Maybe she does and that’s alright.
Bloating is also a huge issue for women. I follow a girl on Tiktok that shows how her stomach can be flat and then be very bloated at noon. So she shows how her outfit can look different on her in the morning and the later day. A lot of young girls were commenting that she made them feel better about themselves and they thought their bodies were weird. And I just found out flat stomachs for women is not common.
Anyway two things can be true and that outfit needs to be better tailored.
She’s gained a bit of weight from her super skinny days. It came out in her documentary that she had an eating disorder when she was younger. So I’m actually gonna say that she does have an ounce of fat on her and she looks great! I found it refreshing to see a tiny bit of a normal body in such glamorous clothes. I think it’s good for girls to see that and know it’s normal.
Yeah, with her money, access to designers, and long, model-like figure, she has the ability to look amazing in every red carpet outfit. This Mui Mui looks cheap and ill-fitting.
It is more flattering in the video where you can see movement. She looks beautiful! I’ve been increasingly impressed by her as she grows. She seems really nice.
I hate the skirt but she looks beautiful. I’m so envious of women who can pull off such outfits ! my legs won’t let me lol
Uh, her face looks different? Smaller nose, bigger cheeks. The bangs are maybe meant to distract from that. Or is it just her make-up/the lighting?
Yes! It seems like her face is fuller.
Her mom is heavy; I suspect she’s been fighting her natural weight all her life.
I think she looks pretty and healthy filled out a bit. Don’t think it’s surgical.
I’ve always thought this was the case
Also, some people just have fuller faces no matter what they weigh
I’m one of those people, weight goes to my face first.
The top is beautiful. I don’t like the skirt as much. But she looks great.
Slim, leggy and sequins and somehow she makes it look bland.
Love the top, love the bangs, hate the skirt. The skirt looks like it’s restricting her ability to breathe and is creating a muffin top when she doesn’t have one. Terrible! The whole look though is so much more fun than Taylor is used to having with fashion. It’s very Cher inspired.
That being said Two pieces and Taylor always remind me of the time she wore this one when she was with Calvin Harris. https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/478366791651063339/
I feel a disconnect between the outfit and the hair but that’s just me.
Her hair drives me crazy. The bangs, the color…don’t flatter her beautiful face.
I don’t like this whole midriff trend, but i think the fabric itself is pretty.
The fit of this is the worst part, honestly. I like the hair.
Yeah my midriff is ready to bare to the world after a year of no exercise and pandemic eating.
That outfit is unflattering – and would be on anyone. Not a fan of her hair either. She still manages to look cute though 🙂
Her face is off…it looks like some work has been done.
I think it’s due to the weight she’s gained which in my eyes is a good thing.
Not a fan of the look. Reminds me of the style of prom dresses that were popular in the late 90s/early 2000s. But I love love love Taylor!! I hope she does do 1989 next, one of my favorite albums of hers.
She looks healthier than ever and beautiful! Not stick thin anymore. Usually don’t like her bangs but seems they’re a bit longer, not so puffy. What a creative, talented, hard working musician she is! Taylor and her growth has been a pleasure to witness.
I like her about as much as I like Goopy – not at all. But I think her hair looks amazing. The outfit doesn’t fit and looks uncomfortable to me.
All these comments about the skirt not fitting, about the skirt giving her a muffin top are showing so much distortion. A muffin top is when skin/subcutaneous body fat hang OVER a waistband. There is not one bit of overhang of Taylor’s skin or body fat on the waistband of that skirt.
It is not cutting into her waist either. The side and back angles show clearly the skirt is well fitted and not too tight. There’s no red marks or fabric indentations on her skin from the waistband either.
Yes, she has a small & natural pocket of fat on her lower waist, that does not indicate that the skirt does not fit, that she has gained weight, that there is an issue with her body. We do not see the outlines of her hip bones or mons pubis so the skirt is not too tight. There isn’t any issue, her body is a body so it is valid.
The idea that midriff baring or outfit’s fits require absolute smoothness is so distorted. Bodies are not smooth! Taylor looks great and isn’t anywhere near the average size of a women her age in the United States, she’s smaller just not size 00.
People can have opinions on her outfit though. I also think it’s very unflattering, even for someone like Taylor who has an ideal body for cute clothes (she’s tall and slim). It’s truly not that deep, especially when no one is making any negative, inappropriate comments about her body. I don’t like the way the skirt is fitted, and that’s ok!
Amen.
Agree Lex. I don’t think it’s flattering.
I don’t think she has a muffin top either.
I don’t really like the outfit, but I think her stomach looks quite flat, regardless of what the fit is supposed to be like.
I don’t think this fit is good at all. It’s very unflattering.
She is going for the Bridgeton “Daphne” bangs.
I read the headline to say “two-piece muumuu” and I thought yes, I do need to see what a two-piece muumuu looks like. Then the top picture didn’t load all the way so I was expected a flowing skirt with the top. Alas, a disappointment all around.
She already released a sneak peek of the re-record of “Wildest Dreams” from the 1989 album. I like her outfit here. If mid-drifts are coming back, it’s a good reminder to me that I need to lose the pandemic weight I’ve gained lol.
She looks absolutely gorgeous, but the skirt looks like it is not positioned at the right level. The camera makes everything look worse, so probably in person you can’t even notice it.
So am I to interpret this as…cottagecore and the folklore/evermore era is over??
This is a weird thing, but I’ve always liked that she kept her hair its natural colour and never felt the need to go really blonde or dark.
She’s definitely gone really blonde before. She was even platinum blonde for a bit.
She’s had multiple shades of blonde hair throughout her career, so not sure why you’d think she’s always maintained her natural color.
I really like this look. She always picks a style and leans too hard into it, and while it’s often flawlessly executed, it sometimes feels a bit forced. This one feels natural, like she’s relaxed into this look and it’s the way she actually is. I don’t think that’s the case cause she’s a chameleon and I’m not sure what style or personality she is exactly, but this looks very right. She could be this person. Regardless, a great look.
The fit is fine imho. How used are we to seeing really perfect bodies that we feel bothered by some skin that’s slightly pushed out? She could have been drinking liquids prior to the event or had a meal before the show and it looks like that. We don’t look the same way at the start/middle and end of an event. That’s how normal women look (no matter their size) when they exist normally in this world (as opposed to fasting right before wearing a revealing outfit)
