I hadn’t stopped to consider that I’m under-utilizing my tongue (there’s just no way to get these sentences out without it sounding dirty, is there?) until I learned of Chanel Tapper. Ms Tapper has been the Guinness World Record title-holder of world’s longest tongue for 15 years, thanks to her impressive 3.8-inch appendage. And yes, the extra inches do allow Chanel to grab a spoon and play Jenga with her tongue (and, hopefully, her personal Jenga set). But according to Chanel, those perks aren’t even the best part! Chanel just told Guinness in a new interview that even after all these years, she still gets the biggest kick out of other people’s reactions to her tongue, especially if it involves yelling or screaming in shock.
A woman whose tongue measures 3.8 inches long from the tip to her lips never tires of the shock it causes.
California resident Chanel Tapper, 34, has held the record for the longest female tongue in the world since 2010. She confessed in a new interview with Guinness World Record published on March 31 that she enjoys seeing people’s reactions to her lengthy organ.
“Honestly, the best reaction I could ever get when someone sees my tongue is screaming,” Tapper told the organization. “I actually do like when people yell or scream in shock, or horror sometimes.”
“But that’s probably my favorite one because it’s funny to me because it’s a dramatic response,” she added.
Tapper revealed there’s a variety of bizarre tricks she can perform with her extravagantly long tongue, running from flipping cups to removing Jenga blocks and holding up a spoon by curling her tongue around the utensil.
She was given a Guinness World Record title after the organization invited her to get her tongue measured at a Los Angeles event in 2010.
Tapper previously told the U.K. outlet First News that she found herself on their radar after going viral for sticking out her tongue. She was around the age of 11 when she developed the habit in response to people being wowed by its length.
A study by the University of Edinburgh’s dental school found that the average woman’s tongue length is 3.1 inches, while men’s tongues are around 3.3 inches, per Healthline.
Tapper had two close competitors when the Guinness World Record awarded her in 2010, and she has remained unbeatable since.
The title has given her a variety of enviable opportunities, including starring in an advertising campaign for the fashion brand Diesel.

I also love that basically, she’s the kid who was never forced to stop sticking out her tongue, lol. That being said, and though I hate to disappoint her, I don’t think I would scream in shock at the sight of it. I’d be intrigued, for sure, but not scared. What initially struck me in the first picture I saw of Chanel — the first one in the People Mag article — wasn’t so much the length as the shape. That’s a damn near perfect isosceles triangle! I guess the tongues I’m used to seeing (still sounds dirty) are more rounded at the tips (I give up). Anyway, I’m glad some Guinness World Record scout discovered her in 2010 (would love to know more about how GWR canvasses for people), and that Chanel has maintained her title for these 15 years. She wears her crown well.
