People: Princess Charlotte ‘is quite a strong character, almost wise beyond her years’

I’ve been saying this for years and I’ll probably still be saying it for another decade: the British press and the royal courts have done a huge disservice to the Wales kids by enforcing set personas/personalities on them at a very young age. George was always the quiet, reserved heir; Prince Louis is the clown, the jokester, the one who makes faces and “steals the show.” And Princess Charlotte is cast as the diligent sister, bossy, organized, sharp, mature for her age, her mother’s carbon copy, etc. Charlotte just turned 10 years old and People Magazine put her on the cover to talk about how she’s a next-gen princess who walks on water. It’s a little bit much for a child who has no business being out in the public sphere this way. Some highlights from People’s cover story:

Princess Kate wants to raise her kids with normalcy: The Princess of Wales has long been intentional about how she’s raising her three children—Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, 7 — with a balance of duty and normalcy. “Kate has the reins of power in a very subtle way. She has very strong views,” royal author Ingrid Seward tells PEOPLE In this week’s issue.

Charlotte is a poised, polished young royal. “She is quite a strong character,” says a palace insider, “almost wise beyond her years.” Charlotte, who turned 10 on May 2, held her own on May 5 as she appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony to mark VE Day, standing with calm composure. “It’s truly her personality — it’s not forced,” says childrenswear designer Amaia Arrieta, who has met Charlotte several times. “She looks very confident and at ease with herself and the environment she’s in. The maturity that comes with that responsibility—she seems to nail it every time.”

She doesn’t go to an all-girls boarding school: “The monarchy has caught up with modern times, and instead of insisting on all-girl [or all-boy] schools, they want them to integrate as much as possible,” says Seward. “The old rules of royalty have changed.”

Charlotte is sporty: On the soccer field Charlotte is known for her grace and sportsmanship — often seen congratulating players on the opposing team. She also loves ballet, tap and rugby. “She spends most of her time upside down doing handstands and cartwheels,” Kate once joked. Adds a palace insider: “She’s clearly sporty like her mother. A bit of a mini-me.”

Charlotte is a natural: “She’s a natural and has taken to royal events like a duck to water,” the insider adds. She’s also known for keeping her brothers in line during official events — whispering reminders, straightening postures and nudging them at the right moments. At Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, she discreetly told George when to bow. “You can definitely see traits of her great-grandmother,” says royal biographer Robert Hardman, author of The Making of a King. “The practical common sense — not camera — grabbing but solid and responsible.”

Charlotte is also like Princess Anne: Like her great-aunt Princess Anne, who is often dubbed the “hardest-working royal,” Charlotte already seems to grasp the rhythm of royal life. But that maturity was forged in private, during early-childhood years often spent at the family’s country home Anmer Hall in Norfolk — a quiet, close-knit base where William and Kate built their family away from the spotlight. That strong foundation has helped shape Charlotte’s close bond with George and Louis. “No one else knows what it’s like to grow up in the U.K.’s foremost family,” says the palace insider. “It’s a shared, lived experience for them.”

George will rely on Charlotte: While George can be shy, and Louis is carefree, Charlotte is the glue — levelheaded and often a calming influence. “I think George will always be able to rely on her,” says Arrieta. “Much like Princess Anne to King Charles, she will be dependable and a great asset to him.” Looking ahead, Charlotte could one day be bestowed the title of princess royal — following in the footsteps of Anne, 74. Though the title is ultimately the monarch’s to give, Charlotte could still choose to decline it. “People wonder why the Queen didn’t make Prince Philip prince consort. Well, he didn’t want it,” Hardman points out. Adds the royal insider: “It could either be seen as an antiquated title or something steeped in history that they will want to respect.”

[From People]

This poor kid. The press is going to ruin her life in a million different ways when she gets older. I honestly think Louis is going to get it worse though – they’re already setting him up as the “clown,” which will morph into “the family screw-up,” all to make George look better (“thank god Louis isn’t the heir” will be the not-so-subtle message). But there’s also a message TO Charlotte in all of these pieces: that if she grows up playing the palace’s games and the press’s games, things will go easier for her. As in, she needs to be a working royal, she needs to provide them with good stories, etc.

  1. somebody says:

I’m sorry, but her “wisdom” is that she can stand calmly on a balcony and knows when to bow so she can remind George (who isn’t wise enough to know when to bow?)? And, yes, Louis is being set up to be given the “spare” treatment. Charlotte is going to be given the “Princess Royal” treatment. I feel for all 3 of those children.

    • Tessa says:

Charlotte shows no superhuman traits. She is a child of 10. It’s bad because these children are on classrooms and Charlotte is touted as having wisdom beyond her years.

      • Ginger says:

Agreed. She is a typical 10 year old not some super hero because she can stand still on a balcony. They need to let her be a kid.

      • Blogger says:

Remember the stories of multilingual Willy?

Right. Hope she at least joins the Army. I mean it’s embarrassing enough that George won’t, but to have another generation of lazy, idle, publicly funded billionaire heirs can be a bit too much.

    • I think the “wisdom beyond her years” is the fact that she is a witness to all the shit her parents do behind the scenes. Just imagine having to live through the “ pillow throwing “. She seems to be a protector of the heir and Louis.

      • Tessa says:

I do not think she is wise behind her years. The brothers should learn to be strong and not need the sister to be in role of protector. They all need strength

      • Ocean Girl says:

I agree, It gets used as a positive thing, but usually is the result of a less-than-happy family life.

      • BeanieBean says:

There’s no wisdom to be gained when living in a bubble of privilege.

      • Liz-L says:

Blogger – Charlotte prob will join the army. Kate always copies others and Princess Leonore of Spain joined at 17. She’s been pictured in her uniform recently age 19. Cue copycat Kate with a photo of Charlotte in a camouflage jacket.

      • Alteya says:

I agree this isn’t ‘wisdom beyond her years’. This is the only girl and the middle child in a fraught home life. What were seeing from her are coping mechanisms.

  2. Tessa says:

She’s a little girl. Comparing her to princess anne and the late queen is ludicrous. All these expectations and at 10. She will be built up then later criticized by the media. If the keens have any sense they would stop having these embiggening articles about the kids and stopped the stereotyping. Charlotte is not another princess anne nor should she try to correct her siblings that’s the parents job. Glad I stopped buying people. Charlotte has a great heritage being a Spencer. I notice they don’t want her to be another diana.

    • Blogger says:

They’re building her up because her mother won’t work. If Lazy doesn’t play, they’ll make sure her daughter will.

      • Nerd says:

That is what makes their whole early years and putting their family first narrative so sickening. Kate’s unwillingness to do actual work that benefits people and so they push out these fake initiatives on Kate and have to push out her daughter to compensate for her older brother who is the next heir that they will treat better than his siblings. It’s a very sick cycle that they are trying to repackage as different because their parents supposedly put their family before royal life. I have stopped buying People magazine because their coverage on the royals is no different from the language of the UK media who report based on what seems to be about meetings a quota of kissing up to the palaces instead about anything substantial or important.

    • sunnyside up says:

I agree I have always found it odd that Charlotte should be correcting her siblings, it is the parents job.

      • HeatherC says:

Willie is too busy rage posting in forums and raging against his brother and Keen is occupied with her Meghan mood boards and tree hugging.

  3. NotMika says:

Only massive creeps call little girls “wise beyond their years”.

    • ecsmom says:

Right!!! I mean Taylor Swift has entire albums about the men that groomed her as a teenager that told her she was wise beyond her years.

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah when I hear someone say that about a little girl all the alarm bells go off.

    • NotMika says:

@ECSMOM Right?!? I immediately thought of Alanis Morissette’s experience with groomering.

I tell all the young women I know – if a man says you “seem mature for your age” or “seem older” or “wise beyond your years”… RUN.

    • Hypocrisy says:

Huge 🚩 red flag isn’t it… such a telling way to phrase it. Also I see that George will need to have Charlotte to lean on, so she has been pigeonholed already to spend her life serving her brother and being his scapegoat.

    • ML says:

      NotMika, ITA, well said!
I don’t remember Prince George getting this kind of cover nor do I remember this kind of article being written about him. He’s both the eldest child and being trained to be king–you would think that HE was going to take care of his siblings and that HE was “wise beyond his years,” which would sound less odd though just as problematic. It really does sound like a groomer wrote this article about Charlotte. Huge yikes!

  4. Bella says:

It’s awful how as a female she’s set up for a supporting role. And didn’t they learn anything from forcing a supporting role on harry…

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Clearly, they haven’t learned a thing. They’re doubling down!

    • Becks1 says:

They learned not one damn thing. They’re going to treat these kids the same way, but worse because Charlotte will be there as an “example” to Louis of how to “support” George (based on the current narratives they’re writing.)

you notice how talk of Charlotte and Louis getting to choose their own paths has faded to nothing.

      • Jais says:

That is something the Wales used to say right? That the kids would be able to choose their own paths. I’m not dreaming that am I?

      • Becks1 says:

@Jais they did! Or at least their rota mouthpieces said that for them. I think for a while there was even the narrative that C&L *might* not be working royals.

now she’s going to be the next princess royal and I’m assuming that means they expect her to work like Anne.

      • Jais says:

They should have really stuck with that message bc its actually you know…modern. But they lack such charisma together and a work ethic that they have to use their kids for good press. It just feels like the true purpose of the monarchy is to provide entertainment for the papers and the people.

      • Meredith says:

The article says the title Princess Royal is the king’s to bestow but that she can and might turn it down— they are not foreclosing the possibility of her opting out at all— they expressly say she may take a different path and turn it down. Reading comprehension!

      • Jais says:

Sure, okay, but she doesn’t have to be a princess royal to be a working royal does she? That’s just a title. She could still be a working royal without accepting the title could she not? And come on, the way they are talking about her being an asset to her brother and comparing her to Anne suggests that they see her as one day working for the monarch, whether it’s being explicitly stated or not(reading comprehension!, lol). Of course she can refuse it, but it sure reveals some of the hopes the institution is pinning on her. Messaging-wise, to me, this article was not giving the impression that “wise beyond her years” Charlotte has so many paths to choose from beyond being an asset to her brother, the future monarch, so maybe KP wants to consider what they sanction for their sugary pr pieces. But hey maybe there will be a new pr message next week. With a new People cover for a ten yr-old.

      • Bqm says:

Yes she May turn down the title of PR but it’s the “forging their own paths” narrative that’s been dropped by the press. I think it was always BS anyway. I think Charlotte will take the title too and Louis will get a peerage, perhaps not a dukedom though. Any thought of Charlotte and Louis not being regular working royals was never going to pan out. At least not post SussexIt.

By the time they’re all grown and established the Gloucesters, Kents (Edward and Alexandra), Charles, Anne will be gone or too old. That’ll leave the by then elderly Edinburghs. And moving forward, until George has kids, it’ll theoretically be just his siblings. Because let’s face it William and Kate aren’t going to get more active as they age.

I see it going one of three ways:
They go for the Spanish model of the monarch/spouse, heir/spouse and siblings until they marry. Then Charlotte and Louis can have their own lives.

They go for the Scandinavian model of monarch/spouse, heir/spouse and siblings/spouses but not the sibling’s kids.

They actually formally adopt the half in/half out for Charlotte and Louis so they can have their own careers but still help out. Maybe even extend it to Beatrice, Eugenie, Louise and James to beef up numbers. (Zara and Peter never would’ve been working royals ever prior to the post-1992 slim down.)

      • Becks1 says:

Turning down the title of princess royal has nothing to do whatsoever with whether or not she’s a working royal. And if Anne takes after her mother it may be another 20-25 years before the title is Williams to bestow again anyway. and considering the rest of the article is about how “mature” she is and what a “support” to George she is, and how similar to Anne she is, my reading comprehension leads me to the conclusion that princess royal title or not, she’s expected to pick up the royal slack.

      • ML says:

Good point, Becks1! Yes, they did indicate that the younger kids were free to forge their own paths and now at least Charlotte seems like she’s being trained to be Anne 2.0 for her older brother, because her brother is not competent enough for the job. Scary.

      • Nic919 says:

Anne didn’t get the Princess Royal title right after the previous one passed so this is really ridiculous talk from the so called experts. Charlotte is better off getting out of the family grift as it won’t benefit her anyway.
Anne managed to have a mother who made sure her own children were set, but do we see William doing this? Charles sure doesn’t.

  5. Amyb says:

She is 10. Anyone who spoke about a 10
Year old OR approved their speaking. About her is horrible.

    • Tre says:

I genuinely believe the Middletons approved this and probably narrated it. We know they play press games and Kate/pippa has always gotten good press from people. They are making sure they are the next royal family.

  6. Iheoma Nwakpadolu says:

Sad to be born in a prison and to be incarcerated for life. None of life’s luxuries or privileges can compensate for that. Basically ‘it is a none living’

  7. Brassy Rebel says:

People magazine should be ashamed. Ten year olds don’t belong on their cover. If her parents approved it, they should be ashamed too. And she is obviously already getting the spare treatment. She’s so supportive of her brother! He can always rely on her! These kids haven’t got a chance. The toxicity is already overwhelming.

    • sevenblue says:

They wouldn’t make a cover story like that if it wasn’t supported by the palace.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

        My thinking exactly 💯.

      • ML says:

People only does coverage of celebrities if they have permission. Presumably, it came from someone other than Charlotte, but it would be almost impossible to think up a scenario where People did this and risked pissing the RF off.

    • Dee(2) says:

This entire article and it’s conception is disgusting. Especially given how they are currently treating their former ” cut up” in the media. He’s paranoid and horrible and untrustworthy because he didn’t want to play the game and tow the family line.

And we’re supposed to believe they will treat Charlotte or Louis better if in 2045 she decides she wants to be a physicist and has no interest in ” duty” and being a lifelong support to her older brother? No autonomy and no privacy and we’re supposed to cheer along at this.

      • Convict says:

Charlotte will never have any real career, so no risk. These kids will be raised to fleece taxpayers.

  8. Sun says:

“She will be dependable and a great asset to George”, with the *potential* great reward of her lifetime as being named Princess Royal?? If George so chooses?? This is the most depressing thing I’ve ever read. Burn it all down, kids.

    • Tessa says:

Poor George I hope dad does not tell him to have to approve his sisters choices in life.

    • WheresMyTiara says:

They’re grooming Charlotte to be the next Princess Anne, and Louis to be the next Andrew/Harry.

Let’s hope Louis follows Harry’s lead rather than Andrew’s or worse, that of his father & grandfather.

I feel sad for all these kids. Elizabeth was prepared by parents and grandparents for her duty; Charles and William are wholesale running from their duty to educate these kids for their future royal duty.

And I don’t know, maybe that will be a blessing in disguise; if the monarchy ends with William, they would at least be free to pursue the lives of their choosing.

      • Nerd says:

I find it very disturbing the amount of people associated and linked to the royal family, including some of the royals themselves, who are accused of grooming and things that are far worse. I can’t not feel a very uneasy feeling whenever they attempt to talk about wanting the Sussex children to be surrounded by these people and how they write articles like these describing these children in the way that they do and trying to write about this family as if it’s anything other than a cult.

    • Tessa says:

So how come George can’t be a support to her too? Siblings should support each other. They are still siblings regardless of George’s place in line of succession. Charles could not even prepare William for duty. He did nothing while William shirked and the Queen allowed William to take the fake air ambulance work than step up royal duties.

      • Chrissy says:

I guess the assumption was that Harry would to sacrifice his life to do all the work while Willnot spend all his time day-drinking, pruning rose bushes and flying around endlessly attending Aston Villa games on the public dime.

    • Nic919 says:

They are already using the same kind of talk as they did with William and Harry. George needing Charlotte as support is not normal. He gets the top job and she doesn’t.

It is bizarre for an American magazine to be writing about kids like this. Would they ever have done this to the Obama daughters?

If we go to 1994 people magazine when Harry turned 10, did we see articles like this about him?

      • Bqm says:

Yep we would. In April 1995 William (12) and Harry (10) shared the cover. “All grown up!” And they weren’t the only ones. Hello had a cover in June 1995 “Two brothers, two different destinies”. I think they were only stopped for a while because of Diana’s death and the privacy the boys were temporarily granted. In their teens it ginned up again. Especially when William hit 16.

      • Nic919 says:

A cover with both William and Harry isn’t the same as one with just Charlotte. And Hello magazine is British so they don’t count because they have always been weirdos about that family and the kids.

    • Meredith says:

I interpreted it as if William would offer it— I think it can go to the daughter of the monarch, not the sister.

      • Bqm says:

It’s the monarchs to bestow on the highest ranking female. I think they’re guessing William because Charles will probably predecease Anne.

And they can do it whenever. Edward VII waited four years after the death of his sister to bestow it on his daughter. George V did it pretty quickly. Elizabeth waited 20 years after the death of her aunt.

  9. wendy says:

That is a great photo – she looks just like William here, it will be interesting to see how her features mature.

This reads like typical middle child and only female energy. Interesting that Anne was the only female too, I guess one “Princess Royal” is the rule. I wonder if Diana would have had another if Charles hadn’t been such an utter failure as a husband.

    • Tessa says:

Diana wanted more children and said so. He made that clear when he was disappointed his second child was a boy that he wanted no more children Nothing said about trying again . He obviously felt he did his duty only having two.

      • sunnyside up says:

I read somewhere that he said after the birth of Harry, ‘my work is done’ So having sex with is wife was a duty.

    • Chaine says:

She looks exactly like childhood William, and while it’s excruciatingly hard to recall those days given his present day fug appearance and wretched personality, but William used to look like a young Diana! Remember when he still had hair and would peep out from under his long bangs shyly?! I bet Charlotte will end up resembling Diana as an adult.

    • Tessa says:

William had a cute stage as a child. But I would want Charlotte to not just look like him since he lost his looks.i think the keens will want cover stories about the boys with more stereotyping

    • Blubb says:

Wendy: oh yes Diana wanted more children. Four to six was a dream before marriage.
I once read she offered Charles to have one more child, as they both wanted a girl, but Camilla didn’t want it. Another she then wanted out, she wanted a second chance.

    • Bqm says:

@wendy Yes, just one PR at a time. It’s a mark of prestige in the family, the senior female after the monarch/consort. And it’s for life. Anne won’t lose it when Charles dies even though Charlotte would be eligible. But, like most titles, it doesn’t get passed on to that female’s daughter. So even if Zara was royal, despite being the first born female in her generation, she wouldn’t get it.

It started when French born Queen Henrietta Maria, consort of Charles I, wanted to emulate the French tradition of “Madame Royale “ . So their eldest daughter, Mary, was the first Princess Royal in 1642. There’ve been seven total.

It’s not always granted even when eligible. James II’s daughter Mary (later Queen anyway) and George I’s daughter Sophia were already married into foreign houses when they became eligible.

Queen Victoria made her daughter Victoria PR almost from birth. Until her brother Albert Edward was born she was simultaneously PR and heiress presumptive, the only time that’s happened. If George VI’s sister Mary had predeceased him, he could’ve made Elizabeth the PR even though she, like Victoria, was heiress presumptive.

And it becomes how they’re styled. Anne technically isn’t “HRH Princess Anne”, she’s “HRH The Princess Royal”.

      • Nic919 says:

As daughter of the monarch Anne would have been HRH The Princess Anne before she was Princess Royal. Just as now Harry is HRH The Prince Henry

  10. ShazBot says:

Interesting to that the Wales agreed to this – I have no doubt it was run by the place comms. For people who want their kids to grow up protected and normal, gushing magazine covers shoehorning you into your role at 10 is not that.

    • Betsy says:

By “normal” William has only ever meant “I don’t want to do anything that’s expected of me as a royal.” He likes the helicopters, he likes the palaces, he likes the access to people and places… he’s just bone lazy. That’s all “normal” means to him. He’s a moron.

  11. Jais says:

She’s ten. Cute as can be for sure but there’s something deeply uncomfortable about seeing her on a cover like this when Harry was just in the news for having his security yanked and his life made unsafe bc he didn’t conform or behave in the way they wanted. It just feels like history repeating itself. Saying her older brother will always rely on her. Ummm the older brother can and should learn to stand on his own.

    • Lady Digby says:

Agreed @ Jais I was very upset by Harry’s interview and the utterly cruel way he has been chewed up and spat out for the crime of whistle blowing and been put at the risk of death by the removal of his security. This is going to be held over the kids heads that if they don’t dance to daddy’s tune they too will get identical TREATMENT.

      • Jais says:

Right? It’s just hard to find the propaganda cute when we just saw Harry’s interview. And we’ve seen how the Wales do use their kids to distract from their own errors. The frankenphoto including all the kids was specifically put out to quell the chatter over Kate’s missingness. That was a choice that backfired but it was still a choice to use the kids at that point in time. Charlotte was made to do a video with her dad for the WWC only after he was getting so much heat for missing the game. It’s just all pretty twisted. So to have this picture of a 10yr old on a cover about a modern Princess…..how can it be modern when it’s the same thing they always do? Medieval is more like it.

      • sunnyside up says:

And don’t they dare marry a mixed race person.

    • Tessa says:

It’s like she’s pushed out like on magazines a child actress and the keens should be ashamed. A cover story about a child is a bad idea. She is not elizabeth or anne she should select her own role

      • Blogger says:

The Windsors – always pimping out their minors.

Charlotte is getting the Harry treatment.

    • Nic919 says:

It’s bad parenting to approve stuff like this. She’s a kid and doesn’t have any official role and will likely never have one if George makes it to king.
We have already seen what they do when the spare wants to live their own life. Nonsense like this just hides the fact that this family is not normal at all and it’s a cult.

If this was some rag then you could say it was done without consent, but People magazine would have gotten some sort of approval.

    • Bqm says:

It’s not unusual though. William and Harry were frequently on covers even before Diana died. William made his debut as an infant. US magazines, British ones, European ones. They all had the boys on the covers.

Even Elizabeth was as a kid, before she was heiress. And she was stalked by photographers even as a toddler. They spied on her over the hedge of her parents’ London house, stalked her nanny wheeling her in the park and waited for her regular carriage rides to and from Buckingham palace and Windsor. Her kids weren’t as harassed but William and Harry were Diana’s boys and the object of great interest.

And now there’s social media, 24 News and entertainment, clickbait headlines on news sites, bots and more.

      • ML says:

BQM, Good point about being on covers as babies. It hits differently though, doesn’t it? With a baby you get the parents there as well, you don’t get personality traits like reliable or mature for your age, and you feel like the kid has potential to be who they want instead of constrained to serve as their sibling’s aide de camp.

      • Jais says:

Fair enough. I think we just have enough knowledge of how this has gone down in the past to feel icked by it.

      • Bqm says:

@ml yes it does come off different. My only point was that it started then and didn’t let up until a brief period the boys were shielded after Diana died. They were on covers their whole childhood.

      • Nic919 says:

And no one ever said Elizabeth and Philip were the best parents and Charles certainly isn’t being called a great dad.
And with two parents who claim to be protecting the privacy of their children, they sure do expose them a lot to media.

The tabloids are harder to control but pimping out your underage kids for PR remains bad parenting.

William can prevent photos he doesn’t like from being published so we know this people magazine article happened because he was fine with it.

  12. Maxine Branch says:

The only feelings I have for the Wales children is pity. As mentioned the script has already been written for them and it is all because of the invisible contract they were born into and their parents allow. They have no support and will be used endlessly to shield their parents from scrutiny. This is a generational curse their parents are allowing. So incredibly happy Harry and Meghan broke this cycle and will allow their children to grow up and live their best lives mistakes and all out of the glare of those gutter rats.

  13. IdlesAtCranky says:

I hope she grows up, moves to Australia, falls in love with a gorgeous First Nations person, becomes Prime Minister, and leads the country to become a Republic.

    • Convict says:

She cannot serve in parliament as a British citizen. It is an automatic bar under the Constitution. The GG office has no bar but it is reserved by tradition for an Australian citizen.

  14. Tn Democrat says:

Dear lort. She is already being groomed as the Princess Anne workhorse among Willy’s kids. Willy has ruthlessly targeted his brother and done everything he could to destroy Harry’s livelihood, marriage, reputation, and charity work. Does anyone believe Willy will treat his children better now that he doesn’t have his brother to scapegoat and do his work? These stories make me cringe. She is a little kid who should be allowed to chose her own way in life and not be bullied by greedy, lazy, nutjob Willy controlling her by pulling the purse strings and scaring her into submission by limiting access to proper security after selling her to the media her entire life.

    • MY3CENTS says:

Yup. You know that WanK are couting down the days until their children are going to do the heavy lifting. Poor Charlotte in 8 years she’s going to be the one pulling all the weight.

  15. Tessa says:

I hope she excels in school and wants a,real career. And not be forced into a role she does not want. Maybe Louis would be the one who takes on more work

    • Blogger says:

Hard when neither of your parents show any work ethic.

The Middletons will groom her to marry an aristocrat if they can’t nab a European prince. Unlike Pippa, Charlotte brings titles to her dowry. No rejection by the Percys this time.

      • Tessa says:

I think Carole is campaigning for her to marry a European prince, and arrange that they meet up at special events.

      • Blogger says:

The Europeans don’t get paid as much so she’s going to have a hard time to find a lifestyle that she’s accustomed to.

The closest match I can think of would be the Danish princes.

Prince Christian has a work ethic already, his sister just turned 18. Queen Mary would be reminded how Lazy was always late to her Danish engagements and should Christian or Vincent marry Charlotte, they’d all be waiting for Lazy to turn up at the wedding.

I think a German “prince” would be more up her alley except she has to learn German. Any exiled Greek prince around? Thanks to the influx of duty-free money, that could be the way to go but the social climbing aspect could be vicious.

So I think Charlotte will choose some local aristo if Willy gives enough of a dowry to fix the roof. Willy still has friends.

American if she wants to be rich like aunt Pippa. Chinese if she really wants to piss off her parents.

      • Alteya says:

Pip isn’t rich. Terribly moderately doesn’t have the kind of money people think. He couldnt afford their sad little petting zoo without a financial partner to help him, and that was only 1 million to purchase. See pip’s ex kingston for another example of wealth on paper.

      • Becks1 says:

She brings status as the daughter of the monarch but not necessarily any titles. Anne set the precedent when she and Mark Phillips refused a title (an earldom presumably) for him so the children did not then have titles. It will be interesting to see what William does (or charles if he’s still around.)

      • Bqm says:

I seriously doubt Charlotte is marrying royalty. But there are some Luxembourg royals out there and they’ve got *money*. Same with the Liechtensteins but I don’t think there are any age appropriate ones. (Say ten years older or less).

    • sunnyside up says:

Louie will do as he darn well pleases and f… the crown, but he will get the protection he needs as long as she is white.

  16. 411fromdownunder says:

Specific in that they allow Charlotte to have a cover feature in People mag at 10 years old and not George, the heir and future monarch. An offering to masses indeed. She will never have a minutes peace this poor girl. How awful.

    • Jais says:

I was wondering about that. Was there not a People cover for George when he turned 10? That makes this feel even more ick.

    • Meredith says:

I think that might be a magazine decision— I’m sure (from many years in check out lines) princess covers sell a lot more adult magazines than prince covers. Teen mags (do they still exist?) might be different.

      • Jais says:

Do you think this article is completely unsanctioned from KP? I just don’t see that. I don’t think People would put Charlotte’s face on the cover, despite it being already shared on their SM. The mag likes to stay royal-friendly. So I think KP knew she would be on the cover and were okay with it despite George not getting a cover for his 10th birthday. Which isn’t that going against their whole hierarchy, the spare getting a cover and more attention than the heir? I agree for sure that a girl/princess gets more attention, as the press loves to hyper-fixate on a girl just to tear her down later, but in this case, a girl is not the heir? So technically Kp isn’t following their own hierarchical order. But like I said, I have no idea, maybe George did get a super special 10th birthday cover on People. Fr don’t recall.

      • Tessa says:

The adult princesses especially Diana, and Fergie who was Duchess of York had cover stories. Not the little children really sold issues. I don’t see anything with Wales family or family members flying off the shelves.

      • Becks1 says:

No way is this article unsanctioned by KP, even if just in a “KP has no objections” kind of way. They didn’t interview any royals and they used the picture put out by KP last week so its not pretending to be any kind of in depth interview, but People wants to keep on the royals good side so they’re not running this without some kind of permission.

I don’t think they ask for permission for every cover they run that might have Kate or Charles etc, but for Charlotte – I’m sure they asked.

    • Bqm says:

George was on the covers for turning ten. On People with his mom, a very creepy Hello cover (Gorgeous George, Hello was creepy about Charlotte too “from little princess to royal icon”), Life & Style which was so badly filtered/airbrushed (like we saw the original photo, wtf L&S?) and more.

      • Jais says:

Yep you’re right! Lol, I found a link on eBay to George’s 10th birthday covered on people. So my thought that they were skipping the hierarchy was wrong. They both got covers!

        https://www.ebay.com/itm/126016888889

And yeah this one appears to be rota photos of George and Kate superimposed next to each other for the cover. Maybe they weren’t yet releasing SM photos of their kids at that time. But agree with @becks1 that it wouldn’t be completely unsanctioned. People mag just isn’t going to do a kids cover mag without checking with KP first. Did they okay every single word? No. But do they approve the gist and the “insiders” for an article about their kid? Yeah.

  17. Smart&Messy says:

diligent sister, bossy, organized, sharp, mature for her age, AND her mother’s carbon copy?? That’s an oxymoron right there.

  18. lanne says:

Poor kid. As a girl, she’s going to get the worst of it. How long before they start snarking on her size, her appearance, especially when she goes through her awkward stage. They’ve assigned her a personality–does it really fit her? She has such a narrow bandwidth of approval. She’ll have to be smart, but not too smart, pretty, but not too beautiful to outshine her mother, not too outspoken, not too forward, not too shy, completely conventional in her interests, her styling, her identiity. From this point forward, everything about her will be policed and commented upon. She’ll even get the dreaded “did/did not put a foot wrong” that can only diminish a girl or a woman. The British media and the royal ratchets, the self-proclaimed gatekeepers of that family, believe they should have a say in every single minute thing that kid will do from this point forward, and I think her parents are too vain and stupid to realize the terrible position that all of those kids have been put in. The generational trauma will continue as those kids are inevitably made rivals of each other.

  19. Lady Digby says:

I worry about these children being exploited for good PR by the RF and BM.

  20. Mightymolly says:

The kids don’t yet know how much they lost with Uncle Harry. He probably follows this closely and thinks about the support he can offer when they reach out to him in adulthood.

  21. aquarius64 says:

The press has already set up the roles for the Wales kids. At 10, Charlotte is designated as the next generation Windsor work horse. No interests of her own; her job is prop up the heir – the job Harry quit. The Waleses kids’ love lives will be controlled by Charles or William; under the 2013 Succession to the Crown Act the Wales kids will be required to get consent to marry from the sovereign. The Sussex kids would technically be under the same rule but by growing up in the US it would not be such a concern.

    • Tessa says:

The Sussex kids will never ever have to get consent from William for anything.

    • Alteya says:

If william becomes king, he would be able to refuse permission for any of the first six in the line of succession to marry *without his permission* – without consequences.

That may well include Archie and Lili depending upon when the w&k kids marry and have kids.

That does not mean he can stop them from marring whomever they want. Legally he could not do that.

But legally? It does mean he can throw them out of the line of succession by refusing official permission. You know he will. He wants to throw harry and his kids out of the line of succession.

      • Tessa says:

I think after a while, those other than his ardent fans, will get sick of William behaving like a tyrant. He may even forbid one of his children for marrying his or her choice. If he tosses people out of line of succession, maybe the next person will be a distant cousin. I guess he may leave Andrew alone though which would be a travesty but done to spite Harry.

      • Nic919 says:

William does not control the line of succession. There is legislation in place in the UK and equivalent laws in the other countries where Charles is king.
The only time you get excluded from the line of succession is if you are catholic or convert to Catholicism.

The marriages act was in the time of George III because he had a ton of kids and most of the sons had mistresses.

      • Alteya says:

Nic919, Charles controls the first six in line. William will have that same control if he is allowed to become King.

See the succession to the crown act of 2013 part 3. If you are one of the first six in the line of succession, you must get approval from the monarch to marry.

If you fail to comply and/or do not receive the monarchs permission? ‘That person and the persons descendants from the marriage are disqualified from succeeding to the crown’

So yes, in effect, if Archie and Lili are still in the top 6 when either of them marries? If william denies them permission and they marry anyway, they’re disqualified from succession.

Churchill was going to skip bertie and his two daughters and pick Gloucester instead. The govt was going to do whatever they wanted with the succession. They only settled on bertie because Gloucester was too fond of affairs with married women.

      • Tessa says:

I notice that Charles has “custody” usually comes up to apply to the Sussexes. No word of him “taking custody” of the Wales children . That he will “seize them.” would apply only to the Sussex children. William made the announcement that he was engaged to Kate before he got approval from his grandmother or father. And he did not have that rule applied to him. I doubt Archie and Lili will care what Uncle William (who probably will never establish any sort of relationship with them) thinks or says. They will marry their choices. Churchill never wanted to pick the Gloucesters. Prince George (Duke of Kent) was discussed as a possible successor to Edward VIII; George was older than Gloucester and the Gloucesters then had no children. The reason that George Duke of Kent was discussed was that he had a son to succeed, there was talk about daughters not inheriting. This was quickly brushed aside. George and his daughter Elizabeth could not be skipped and Churchill was always supportive of Elizabeth as Princess and later Queen

      • Tessa says:

Edit. Correction. Gloucester was two years older than Kent. However, Kent had a son and heir which was why he was vetted.. It was all talk and there was no chance that George VI (Bertie) would be bypassed.

      • Alteya says:

Churchill was going to skip bertie, with the government approving, because no one thought he was up for the job. His admiration of qeii didn’t come into being until she was queen.

William did announce the press conference for their engagement without telling qeii. He didnt want her to know because he knew all the windsors hate kate. They might have talked him out of it but he didnt give them the chance.

That didnt preclude qeii having to give formal permission. She gave formal permission in April of 2011, meaning bill didn’t lose his place in the line. Dragged her feet on that permission but she still gave it.

      • BeanieBean says:

🙄 Not this again. No English King can control the lives of two Americans. Period. End of.

      • Nic919 says:

Changing the line of succession requires the consent of multiple countries and not just the UK. Canada, Australia etc all have to approve their own line of succession act and William cannot unilaterally change it because of a marriage he does not like. When they removed the male primogeniture requirement in the original act, all the other countries had to pass their own legislation and they didn’t necessarily have to agree to it.

Again William cannot control the succession himself. It is UK parliament. And the parliaments of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries.

      • Alteya says:

Have any of you read the 2013 law?

The monarch cannot stop them from marrying. Im not saying the monarch can change the line of succession on a whim without government permission.

But yes, if they are in the top six in the line? If they marry without the monarchs permission they are disqualified from the throne as are their children.

It states it right there in the law. Regardless of their citizenship, if they are in the top 6 they can be disqualified for marrying without permission.

      • Tessa says:

I read books about the abdication and Churchill and parliament did not vet Gloucester as heir. George 6 would not have trusted Churchill if he did not want him to be king.

      • Alteya says:

Beaniebean, AFAIK both Sussex children are dual citizens. Which turns out to be irrelevant.

The previous royal marriages act and this updated 2013 law impact plenty of people who are not UK citizens. The Swedish, Norwegian, and Dutch royals are all in line to the Uk throne. So is Caroline of Monacos estranged husband and her daughter Alexandra from that marriage.

When Willem Alexander married catholic maxima, he lost his way down place in line to the uk throne and their future children were disqualified. When the new law was passed in 2013, his place and the places of their three daughters were restored.

      • Nic919 says:

The UK law does not apply to Canada or Australia. The UK cannot impose a change based on William’s whims when the current law removed the disqualification of gender and the disqualification of marrying a Roman Catholic.

Canada and Australia do not need to comply with whatever the UK does. And they sure as hell won’t pass a new law of succession because two Americans didn’t get permission from their uncle to marry.

      • Tessa says:

Gloucester had no issue from his marriage when the abdication crisis took place . His wife had miscarriages. They eventually had two sons in the 1940s and George VI was king then. Kent had Prince Edward as his first born, the idea of vetting Kent (which went nowhere) was he had a male heir. Churchill would not have betrayed George VI. And they did get along.

      • Alteya says:

It didn’t matter whom bertie trusted or didn’t. He was a puppet controlled by the goverment and his bitch of a wife. Gloucester was a problem, they chose easily controlled bertie.

Nic919 I’m not saying bill can change the line of succession by rewriting the law himself. He gets to apply the law as it was written and approved in 2013 – including approved by places like Canada and Australia. The law that is the law of succession in those lands right now.

The first six people in the line of succession to the uk throne are required to get approval of the uk monarch to marry. It says it right there in the portion of the 2013 law i quoted above.

If they marry without that permission, they and their descendants are disqualified from the throne. In all the realms in which the 2013 law applies. Regardless of citizenship, as shown above on how the uk law impacted Willem Alexander of the Netherlands.

The law allows, and timing may permit, william to remove Harry’s kids via unapproved marriages.

      • Tessa says:

Considering how traumatic the abdication was, it is very doubtful that Edward’s younger brother Bertie would have had to step aside in favor of another sibling. The country wanted stability not changing the line of succession, it would have created insecurity in the country.

      • BeanieBean says:

@Alteya: no, I did not know about that law, to which I say a bit fat so what? Will they be arrested? No. Will they lose their jobs? No. Will they lose their homes? No. Will they lose their right to vote? No. Will their names be removed from the line of succession for the British throne? OK, sure, I guess (haven’t read the law), but again, that’s a big fat so what? There’s a hundred people on that list as it is! They won’t be crying into their cornflakes over this!

      • Convict says:

William can’t do that because the Acts of Succession in all Commonwealth realms have to be amended in those sovereign parliaments. I can’t believe what I’m reading … feeling sorry for over-privileged children who will never go hungry or want for anything in life. They will never know want, need or disappointment. Their destiny is to be parasites who contribute nothing meaningful to society. Charlotte having a proper career? Don’t make me laugh. Even Zara and Peter Phillips have never held real jobs.

      • Alteya says:

Nothing has to.be amended convict. The act is law as of 2013.

    • sunnyside up says:

At least the Sussex children are younger, hopefully the Wales children will have children and push the Sussex children further down the succession.

      • Tessa says:

That will be many years from now possibly they all won’t get married until age 30

    • Blubb says:

But the best grandfather of all said his grandchildren should choose for themselves and marry for love 👀. Don’t tell me that’s another lie from him.

  22. Liz-L says:

It’s sad trying to imbue a child with traits they themselves lack. Narcissistic projection from parents who see their kids as props or extensions

  23. Laura says:

I read on this site in a comment to another article a hypothesis that struck me: that Louis could have been made to sit far from Kate for fear that she would repeat the scene of the Jubilee in which he put his hand on his mother’s mouth and waved his little hand in front of her face as if to imitate a gesture of…

It’s a hypothesis that struck me and disturbed me. What do you think?

  24. Tessa says:

If Charlotte is “sporty” How come William does not take her along when he goes to sports events?

  25. Amy Bee says:

As I said last week when the US Weekly on Charlotte came out, she should not be on any Magazine covers at this age and I think it’s sad that that these publications are projecting special personality traits onto her.

  26. Tessa says:

People should rename itself the Wales Weekly. Cover stories seem to concentrate on them. The issues do not sell.

  27. ❤️❤️❤️❤️SCAR says:

UK media reported on Louis briefly mocking George on VE Day….with video. We learned from SPARE the UK papers are laid out in all of the palaces, so chances of George seeing this reporting is high. Now imagine how George would feel knowing the whole world saw this…at his age. Now imagine the retribution being visited on Louis for this affront to George’s dignity. The UK media is already working on ruining George and Louis’ relationship.

    • Tessa says:

Yes, I saw that. Some of the fans of the Wails thought it “cute” and “funny.” It was a bad idea for the Wales to bring those children front and center. Also how do Charlottes’s classmates react when they see her on a magazine cover “wise beyond her years.” The Keens are bungling this big time.

      • Scar❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ says:

Yes!!!!!! And it was reported Willy stated when Harry said he had concerns about Will’s kids that Harry shouldn’t worry about them……..rrrrriiiggggghhhttt. Nothing to be concerned about here.

    • Jais says:

Even cbs randomly reported on that. One of many reasons I’m glad the Sussexes are not still working royals.

    • sunnyside up says:

It sells newspapers, that is all the newspapers care about, hence all the nasty stories about Harry and Meghan. Even in the Guardian, one of their writers was complaining about Harry wanting taxpayer protection, the headline didn’t mention his offer to pay for it. Didn’t read it, I expect better of the Guardian.

      • Cheryl says:

I wrote a reply to that opinion piece. It won’t be published. They wanted my full name, address and phone number. No way! This is what I wrote:
Harry pays for security for his family. However in the U.K., his body guards are not allowed to carry guns. Every country that H&M has visited, provides the couple with top notch security.
The U.K. seems to be the only country with a problem of providing appropriate security for his family. His father and brother would not be upset if he died.
I hope the other 400 pages of Spare are released or at least a book about the awful way the Sussex’s are treated in the U.K. regarding their security. It is appalling that Prince Harry has better security in the Ukraine than the U.K.
I hope I never read another story about how sad Charles is that he doesn’t see his grandchildren. He doesn’t want to or he would have visited him in Montecito as the Spencer sisters did. Or he could provide adequate security without leaking to the press.
I hope Prince Harry never steps foot in the U.K. again and the Invictus games are moved to a more welcoming country. I am including his father’s funeral in that statement. Harry has already griefed the death of that relationship. Good riddance to that toxic cult of a so called family.

      • sunnyside up says:

Like me, I didn’t get that far, tried to comment on a previous article and decided they wanted to know too much. The Guardian used to be a good newspaper.

  28. Tessa says:

Are the royalists so obsessed with them that they want traits of the Queen and Princess Anne to emerge in a ten year old girl. Ridiculous

  29. QuiteContrary says:

My hope for the Wales children is that one of them finds a copy of “Spare” lying around somewhere and reads it.

I hope they learn at some point that escape is possible and that they have an aunt and uncle in California to whom they could turn for help. Because their parents are doing a terrible job of shielding them from this ridiculous crap.

  30. Jaded says:

Funny isn’t it that the minute there’s some legitimate news and public approbation about the Sussexes the Wales kids get trotted out like purebred show horses. Mainly because their parents are too fecking lazy and stupid to do anything other than the bare minimum, which is so boring I’m surprised people at their so-called events aren’t dozing off standing on their feet.

  31. Stef says:

Feels like they are forcing the kids on people and we are supposed to care. The royals popularity is dying on the vine.

I’m sure she’s a sweet kid but who cares? Let her be a kid and live instead of BS magazine covers like this one.

  32. smee says:

She looks a lot like QE, she even has her vibe in a way. Yes, she’ll be the new Anne. A life showing up at events dressed correctly.

    • Tessa says:

She really doesn’t. IMO. Besides which she is still a child. William’s looks changed as he grew up. She does not have the Queen’s “vibe” either, she is a child and a spare who will not be Queen. There was only one Queen Elizabeth II and only one Princess Anne. The Queen lived until age 96, Charlotte’s only ten and most likely odds are against her ever being monarch. It’s better all around if Charlotte and her siblings are seen as unique.

    • Tessa says:

I hope that’s not in Charlotte’s future. Lives and personalities can’t be duplicated. Anne and the Queen cannot be replicated in Charlotte who’s only ten.

    • Alteya says:

She looks exactly like william not qeii.

Qeiis twins, or triplets, are edward and louise.

  33. Laura says:

Is it certain news that Diana’s sisters went to Montecito, California?

  34. Dee says:

I find it funny that she is “almost” wise beyond her years. Doesn’t that mean she’s really not? People might as well rebrand as the Royal Syncophant at this point.

  35. Georgina says:

•George will be the next Charles/Workshy mix.
•Charlotte will be the next Anne.
•Louis will be the next Andrew without the Epstein link.

The future Royal Family has new Harry and will have zero charisma.

  36. Lau says:

I don’t understand why they’re not looking at other European royal families, why do they need to treat their children like that ?

  37. Krista says:

She’s 10. The RF really are desperate. Shouldn’t Pegs be the secret weapon?

  38. Mayp says:

They are setting up Charlotte to be resented by George. And, unless George turns out to be a better man than his father, Charlotte will suffer the same indignities that caused Harry to want to leave the UK

    • PrincessK says:

Yes, exactly. The media have a replacement plan for the strong Anne weak Charles narrative that ran for decades. Louis is going to be the rebellious clown to provide the media with stories.

  39. Tessa says:

The royalists want to repeat the past by typecasting those children.

  40. therese says:

The press are as heartless and unprincipled as the royal family. Poor little George’s face. That lad does not look happy. None of them do. We don’t even know what Archie and Lilly look like really.

  41. Tessa says:

what on earth is a “modern” Princess?

  42. Nic919 says:

We need to stop acting like William is going to interfere with the marriages of his niece and nephew. It is dumb and it won’t happen regardless of the UK law.

Two American kids aren’t going to have their uncle grant permission. Also Australia, Canada and other countries are not required to recognize it. The 1931 Statute of Westminster makes all countries free to agree or not with the UK law on succession. Canada and Australia could choose to pass laws right now and make Harry head of state. They just don’t bother because it is not worth their time.

But if consent is refused for anything outside of the person being a criminal, this would cause diplomatic nightmares. Unlike the UK, the rest of the countries with Charles as head of state find that family to be a soap opera and not to be taken seriously. Any petty interference with marriage would only lead to action to drop them altogether.

    • Convict says:

Australia could not pass that law to make Harry King because of our Constitution. Otherwise I agree. If Australia doesn’t want to amend its Act of Succession it must vote by referendum to become a republic. That is the risk.

    • Alteya says:

      1. The act is already law as of 2013. If people weren’t okay with it, they should have protested before the law was passed.

Similar to people who believed Charles when he promised Camilla wouldn’t be queen. No one bothered to change the law. She automatically became queen consort when Charles became king.

There was one brave mp who suggested changing that during the discussions over the 2013 law. He proposed the spouse of a monarch should be prince/princes consort. He was attacked for the suggestion and it didnt become part of the law.

      2. We need to stop pretending that anything william does is normal. He is an autocrat and absolute monarch in the making. Any way he can find to hurt Harry, Meghan, and their kids he considers fair game.

Given no one stops him from doing anything he or his agents do to sussex family? I see no guarantee he wouldn’t try to pull shit around marriage approvals.

Ultimately that’s all I’m saying. The law allows it and given the chance, he’d do it. No one stops him.

The public media response to Harry’s lawsuit shows the press will line up behind the Windsors.

  43. Cassie says:

Another one trapped, Harry was right , you can’t escape their clutches.

If you do you are punished.

  44. AC says:

A lot of pressure for a 10 year old to save that family, it’s pretty sad.

  45. Miracles says:

    She looks like her dad….

  46. Alteya says:

Tessa he already acts like an absolute monarch and gets away with it.

He uses taxpayer funding to secure his inlaws home. I’m sure he stopped any investigation into their illegal business changeover. He’s holding that over their heads for the future.

Crimes were likely committed and they weren’t charged. Just as he stopped pip from being charged with gun charges in France years ago. And uncle hookers and blow has only been charged with one of his many crimes. All of that has Williams fingerprints on it.

He used taxpayer money to sue a foreign magazine into closing over keens top less escapade. Used taxpayer money to threaten a free press into silence over his many affairs. Used taxpayer money to provide legal counsel for one of his side pieces over the affair being revealed.

He has shut down freedom of information over how he uses millions in taxpayer money every year.

He rewarded an employee who committed perjury because that employee was attacking Meghan. Jason wasn’t charged because william won’t let those loyal to him be charged.
