Keanu Reeves wrote a note to the FBI to thank them for returning his watches

Last December, the FBI announced that they had tracked down a Santiago, Chile-based crime ring that targeted multiple celebrities’ homes. They mainly stole items like luxury watches, jewelry, designer purses, and iPhones. A lot of athletes, including Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, were targeted. Keanu Reeves was also among the victims. In 2023, Keanu’s home in Los Angeles was broken into and several items were stolen, including six Rolexes. One of those Rolexes was a custom-engraved Rolex Submariner that he had made for the John Wick: Chapter 4 stunt team. Over the summer, the FBI announced that Keanu’s stolen watches had been turned over to US authorities and that he’d be able to get them back as soon as possible. Well, Keanu was reunited with his stolen watches and because he is ever the gentleman, he followed up by sending the FBI a handwritten thank you note for a job well done.

The FBI has returned valuable items previously stolen from Keanu Reeves’ home in a 2023 jewelry heist.

In a press release on Tuesday, Nov. 18, the FBI confirmed that the stolen items were returned to Reeves, 61. The agency also shared that theThe Matrix star penned a handwritten thank you note to the government agency, beginning, “It is with profound gratitude and appreciation that I am writing this letter.”

After thanking the several agencies involved in the search for the missing items, Reeves concluded the letter, “Thank you so much for all your effort, dedication, professionalism and cross-border cooperation. My warmest regards, Keanu.”

Chilean authorities confirmed they would turn over Reeves’ stolen property, including six valuable watches, on July 29.

Among the watches is an engraved Rolex Submariner worth at least $9,500. The total value of the wristwatch is $125,000, a police officer from Chile’s robbery investigation squad told the Associated Press (AP).

Chilean prosecutors told reporters that the John Wick star identified the valuable watches as the same ones stolen from his Los Angeles home in December 2023. CNN first reported the watches had surfaced in eastern Santiago a year later in December 2024. At the time, authorities arrested one individual in connection with the “violent robberies.”

In August, Reeves met with FBI personnel and a Chilean PDI Officer in New York to retrieve his stolen items, the release confirmed.

“This case underscores how crime today knows no borders, and how vital our international partnerships are in bringing justice to victims here in Los Angeles,” LAPD Chief of Police Jim McDonnell said in the FBI’s press release.

“The recovery of these stolen items—thanks to the outstanding collaboration between the Policía de Investigaciones de Chile, the FBI, and our detectives—sends a strong message that organized theft groups will be pursued wherever they operate,” McDonnell continued. “I am proud of the work our team has done alongside our federal and international partners to hold these criminal networks accountable.”

I’m really happy that Keanu got his watches back. It must have been such a relief to finally have that nightmare of an ordeal be over with. I also freaking love that he sent the FBI a thank you card. Keanu remains the absolute best. That was so kind. Sending the federal government a thank you card sets the etiquette bar at a whole new level! Seriously, though, he and the other people who had their items stolen were so lucky that not only were the perpetrators caught, but the items were recovered and returned to them.

The FBI’s press release doesn’t mention any of the other famous victims and whether or not their possessions have been returned yet. It does, however, name a non-celebrity whose stolen jewelry was also returned around the same time as Keanu’s watches were. That said, it would be pretty funny if the FBI’s entire press release was a flex for them to be like, “We got a thank you card from Keanu Reeves.” Like, no hate if it was because, if I got a handwritten note from Keanu, I’d make it my pinned Tweet, Facebook banner picture, and just put it on an Instagram story loop for weeks.

Always the gentleman. Glad he got his watches back.

He’s such a decent human being, so unusual for someone who has been a Star for decades!

The New York Post story said the watches were part of the millions of dollars in valuables stolen from his home. I guess the thieves made a mistake in holding onto Keanu’s engraved watches as souvenirs. Glad he at least got the watches back.
