Jessie Buckley wore Chanel to the NYC ‘The Bride’ premiere: shockingly good?

Jessie Buckley’s style choices are endlessly amusing to me in recent months. Throughout the promotion of Hamnet and throughout the awards season, Jessie has been wearing a series of somewhat frumpy, “don’t look at me, I’m not a fashionista” ensembles, to the point where I really resigned myself to the idea that we weren’t going to get a major LOOK from her whatsoever. Then it just so happened that Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride is being released this month, and suddenly, Jessie is wearing really interesting pieces for The Bride’s premieres! Last week, she wore a shockingly sexy Maison Margiela gown for the London premiere. Last night was the NYC premiere, and Jessie wore this fantastic Chanel ensemble. THAT SKIRT!! It’s so unexpected for Jessie.

I’m also including pics of Maggie Gyllenhaal and the wide shot of the cast. This is Maggie’s second feature film as a director, her first being The Lost Daughter. I feel like I was the only one who really liked The Lost Daughter? Like, Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley and Dakota Johnson were great in it, and Maggie is a great director of actresses in particular. But I worry that The Bride is simply too high-concept? Many of the early reviews are glowing, but I did see one tweet (below) suggesting that Jessie lucked out on the timing because The Bride could have Norbit’d her Oscar. “To Norbit” = when an Oscar frontrunner has a wild swing-and-miss movie come out in the middle of their Oscar campaign, which then ruins their campaign. It happened to Eddie Murphy! For what it’s worth, I think Jessie is basically the only sure thing in the Oscar acting categories.

This skirt is amazing, I want it now!

This feels like Bonnie and Clyde with dead people.

That Chanel skirt is amazing. The color! And so fun. I did also like the balenciaga from the sags.

I love the shape, structure, colour of the skirt and paired with the turtleneck. The only thing I hate is the spots. They remind me of the spots on Fred Flinstone’s suit.

    *ducks and runs*

That skirt is absolutely stunning. That said, Jessie Buckley is now on my sh*t list because of how she cruelly disparaged cats in a recent interview. I can understand not liking cats or not wanting to live with cats, but she took it way further than that in a way that was, at best, unnecessary and, at worst, harmful. It made me legit concerned for the safety of any innocent cats that might wander into her path.

We should worry more about her once the cats find out. My cats have always been total ass kickers. My last cat was *tiny* — but FIERCE. One of the many disgusting gifts she once brought to the door—a squirrel’s head…just the head. She used to just hang out on the peaked roof of our 3-story house (that had on obvious access point) like a falcon on the lookout. As a youngster she survived 2 surgeries to remove an ear tumor that was spreading toward her brain, then years later had a tree limb fall which crushed 1/2 of her skull, which required rebuilding and led to many lost teeth and one blind eye. She awesomely lived to be 17 and even up to the end she ruled our 80-pound Goldendoodle, and 28-pound cockapoo. She could always just side eye them and they’d shirk away. They had a massive dog bed that fit them both and when vacant she would settle into the middle of it and they’d approach, see her there and then go find somewhere else.

So fear not for the cats, for they be awesome and we all know they can kick our asses when they’re having that kind of day. ⚡️

I preferred Rose Bryne’s performance much more than Jesse Buckley’s—even though I’m a huge fan of hers.

  8. SarahCS says:

I watched the trailer and would be up for giving it a go (I had a cinema membership so watch anything I’m vaguely interested in) if it wasn’t for the Jake G aspect. Hard nope.

  9. Tammy says:

That skirt is awful! I liked most of her awards show looks. The BAFTA look was my least favorite.

  10. a mascarada says:

I kind of hate this skirt but love it on her at the same time. The nerve of this fantastic woman/actress to carry this exquisite Chanel so well!
And here I’ll be mean… She carries these dramatic clothes better than Margot Robbie.
As for Maggie Gyllenhaal; she’s classy as f and I wish I had the same wardrobe choices as her. More than Margot and Jessie’s.

  11. Basi says:

Never heard of her until the cat comment. She’s a nope for me.
