Russell Brand: ‘I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30’

Once we learned the extent of Russell Brand’s depravity and there were multiple women accusing him of crimes, I really tapped out. It’s not that I don’t care about the story, but I just hoped that Brand would immediately be thrown into prison and we wouldn’t have to deal with him anymore. That’s not what happened. After the 2023 reporting of the credible accusations against Brand, he was still allowed to roam free for nearly two solid years. He was only charged with multiple counts of rape and assault in the spring of 2025. The trial won’t begin until October of this year. In all of that time, Brand has tried a million different image/branding shifts, including born-again Christianity. His latest thing? Admitting to something which isn’t technically illegal in the UK but is still horrible.

Russell Brand said he had “exploitative” consensual sex with a 16-year-old girl at the height of his fame. The comedian, actor and podcaster, 50, will be tried in the autumn over allegations of rape and sexual assault made against him by six women. Brand denies all the charges, which date from 1999 to 2009. Speaking about his past actions in an appearance on the YouTube show of the US journalist Megyn Kelly, Brand described himself “selfish” and an “exploiter of women”.

He said: “I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30. When I was 30, I was a very different person. I was a lot younger, and I was an immature 30-year-old… Consensual sex with a lot of people, when there is a strong power differential, as there is when you are a famous man who has the ability to attract women that I had at that time, I think involves exploitation. I think it is exploitative. I recognise that my sexual conduct in the past was selfish and I did not apply enough consideration, barely any I suppose, really, to how that sex was affecting other people.”

The age of consent in the UK is 16, unless it is with an adult in a “position of trust” such as a teacher, social worker, sports coach or doctor, in which case the age of consent is 18.

Brand, who hosted Big Brother spin-off shows, had his own BBC Radio 2 programme and starred in a number of Hollywood films, is facing three charges of rape, three allegations of sexual assault and one charge of indecent assault. His trial at Southwark crown court is scheduled to begin on 12 October, when his six accusers will speak about the claims and he will have the chance to give evidence.

[From The Guardian]

“I was an immature 30-year-old” Imagine the maturity level of the 16-year-old. What the f–k is Megyn Kelly doing, interviewing Brand and platforming this? It’s conceivable that this interview could be introduced at trial, right? Especially since it goes to pattern and M.O. – his trial is for multiple victims, multiple instances of assault and rape.

That’s a classic ploy: admitting to a lesser issue while denying the worse charge. To be clear, from my POV having sex with a 16 year old is not a lesser charge. I hope Brandt rots in jail. Never saw his appeal at all.
I wish he would take Lauren Boebert’s loser felon son with him. That little brat got away with getting an underage girl pregnant then is a crappy father to boot. Shocking

  2. Lightpurple says:

Megyn Kelly is on record as saying an adult men having sex with a 15 year old isn’t a problem.

  3. jais says:

Wtaf? So I guess that’s the legal consent age in the UK if he’s admitting to that.

  4. LizB says:

Why the hell is Russell Brand hanging out with RFKJr and Dr. Oz?!

  5. 2131Jan says:

“You are the company you keep.”

He’s always been creepy and repulsive. I’ll just leave it at that.

  6. SIde Eye says:

Absolutely disgusting. He is so vile and yes he’s a rapist. I hope his victims get justice.

Age of consent legalities aside, doesn’t matter if you were immature at 30 – you’re still 30 you dumb ass. A 16 year old is a child. WTF.

Ugh that pic of him yucking it up with RFK Jr. as Brainworm is about to probably harm that poor animal. I can’t with them.

  7. Lucy says:

The Maintenance Phase podcast just did two episodes on this creep and it’s worth listening to, although I had to skip ahead a few times to avoid boiling my blood.

He’s currently touring with Sean Feaucht, the maga Christina nationalist that led worship events during Covid that definitely got folks sick. Trash.

  8. Louisa says:

I am just so sick of men. LIke yeah I know… not all men blah blah but FFS so many men!

    • Kitten says:

Men are destroying our country and maybe the world, too.

    • Eurydice says:

And the thing is that many of these “Not all” men ignore abuse or try to excuse it as “he was depressed, he was stressed, he has ADHD, blah, blah. Never mind also wanting a cookie for “At least I’M not a rapist.”

  9. aquarius64 says:

I don’t care if this vile act is in the UK; it’s disgusting. Trust if this was a female member of the BRF at that age Brand would have been under the jail.

  10. Chantal1 says:

Well he supports MAGA and grifts just like them so of course Megyn K would platform him on her channel. No low is too low for her. They’re all disgusting.

  11. Jayna says:

In February, he went to court with his tiger-print shirt unbuttoned, and open, well below his pecs. How did the court not throw him out of the courtroom?

And what does being famous and charismatic affords you the “ability to direct consent” mean? He stated it another time: “Actually, what happened was consent was directed.”

He is so disgusting, despicable, on and on. And the whole production of carrying the Bible every time he goes to court is laughable.

  12. Yonati says:

If puke were reassembled into a solid we would have Russell Brand.

  13. Tis True, Tis True says:

Would be a great moment for the UK to add performer and other public figures to the categories where age of consent becomes 18.

    He truly is vile.

  14. CatGotMyTongue says:

Russel Brand: hey, hold my beer! I’m still a creep! SURPRISE!!!

  15. fwiw says:

When Charles was 28 he had sex with girls “seventeen and younger,” according to Christopher Andersen’s book The King, quoting polo pal Luis Basualdo.

    • Thinking says:

The media wanted Charles to marry Diana when she was 19 and he was 32. No one in the media questioned the age difference. I can see how he wouldn’t question it if no one else did (and it didn’t seem like he was into the idea of marrying a 19 year old).. And it was often mentioned (maybe even by him, if I’m not misremembering documentaries) he first met her at 16, and again, no one seemed to question it at all. At that time period, I’m not sure if Charles’s behaviour would have been questioned even if peole knew about it (not because he was a Prince, but because the media and everyone else was weird and I don’t think people in that time period questioned age differences much).

However, times have changed a lot, and I have no idea why Russell Brand is discussing his experiences.

  16. Bumblebee says:

I don’t care what the law is, or what word salad he uses to describe it. 30 yr old having sex with a 16 yr old can never be anything but rape. 16 is a child! 30 is an adult with a fully grown brain!

  17. Miranda says:

Speaking as a former 17-year-old who was groomed by a 33-year-old, “legal” doesn’t mean “acceptable” or “moral”, and consent from the brain of a LITERAL CHILD of 16 or 17, when the other party is a grown-ass man, is essentially meaningless. Many girls in that situation will initially felt like it was cool to hook up with an older man, particularly a celebrity, but once the novelty wears off, the girl is the one who will face all the victim blaming and slut shaming while everybody practically high-fives the creeper.

So yeah, Russel Brand can go fuck himself. Which will hopefully keep him too preoccupied to prey on another child.
