This year’s Met Gala theme was “fashion is art” with the exhibition being “costume art.” I would have liked to see more outrageous looks, but there were notable standouts and bold interpretations. One of my favorite looks last night was Anne Hathaway in this exquisite hand-painted Michael Kors gown. In their joint red carpet interview with Vogue, Micheal said this was hand painted by his friend the artist Peter McGough. This features Grecian inspired imagery including doves and a bust on the back. I love the layering on the skirt and the split bodice. She looks amazing and was the perfect muse.
Suki Waterhouse was in a draped Grecian-inspired Michael Kors, in this deep v-neck peach number. The accessories make this work, although it’s otherwise pretty safe.

Gabrielle Union was in a sheer sequin Michael Kors with a cutout back. The best thing about this look is her styling. I really like her hair and her Tiffany collar necklace. Otherwise this dress could be worn on just about any red carpet. It’s on theme though as the Costume art exhibit explores “the relationship between clothing and the body beneath.”

I wish sheer would just go away. Love Suki’s look and Annie’s dress is a work of art.
I’m with you on all three points.
Sheer can be interesting and even elegant, but I’m bored with what seems like half the women on every red carpet dressed in some sort of long veil and some jewelry.
You have a nice body, good for you. Is that the only aspect of yourself you want to highlight? Really?
I agree and have felt this way forever. It’s usually so tacky though there are some exceptions. Tonight wasn’t one of them on any of the sheer dresses.
I think for both Suki and Gabrielle the styling makes the look and elevates it from “basic red carpet” to Met gala. And Dwayne Wade looked great but he usually has pretty good style as it is.
That said – yes, Anne’s dress was one of the big winners of the night for me. She looked fantastic and the dress is perfectly on theme. And her styling and accessories were perfect.
Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade were smoking hot. They are a great example of people who elevate anything they wear. Her look was on the plain side but her hair was gorgeous and the two of them together were perfection.
Totally agree. Their chemistry is off the charts. And Gabrielle’s hair is gorgeous.
I love Anne’s look.
Anne’s amazing dress and Anne herself in that dress were works of art. One of the best looks of the night and one of the few that actually played on the theme beyond drapery
Which it had been painted with sepia instead of white. Esp with the gold necklace, but also because of the urn reference.
Anne was on point. Gabrielle looked gorgeous but not very on theme. The rest meh.
Gabrielle’s hair was gorgeous.
Annie was perfect. The silhouette is beautiful, the painting exquisite, the styling was on-point, and she didn’t carry it like she was wearing a costume (my Met Gala pet peeve is anything that screams “look at my costume!”). Perfect.
So far Anne and Chase Infiniti are the only ones who understood the assignment.
Emma chamberlain was amazing too.
Wow, Anne is definitely on point, and it is truly a work of art. She looks amazing. So for now, I have my top two: Anne and Chase.
Although I do love Nicole’s look. Nicole’s gown has amazing structure to it, and it is breathtaking on her body. Also, the red stood out in a sea of black and silver.
Mostly, I feel like I’m just looking at any red carpet. What has happened to the Met Gala?
I’m sick to death of the “Let them eat cake” attitude at a time when so many are struggling including those that work for Amazon. This excess is stomach turning and now I’m sad that so many just don’t care. I now see them through different eyes because they really didn’t have to attend.
That’s why I think we need more of a discussion around Madonna’s Marie Antoinette reference with the ship in her hair while wearing all black.
Anne Hathaway’s dress was perfection.
Gabrielle and Wade together are the definition of “smoking hot.” Always love to see them.
Anne’s dress is giving a preview of Penelope , in Christoper Nolan’s Upcoming film Odyssey.
This will be her Oscar 🏆
