The American Music Awards were held in Las Vegas on Monday. Queen Latifah hosted the ceremony and Billy Idol received the Lifetime Achievement Award. BTS won the night’s biggest award, Artist of the Year. Presenters included Paula Abdul, Alysa Liu, and John Legend. Kaiser covered some of the red carpet fashion yesterday, including Teyana Taylor’s awesome Balenciaga dress.
Hilary Duff, who just finished a three-night residency at Voltaire at The Venetian, was also at this year’s AMAs. She presented the award for New Artist of the Year to Katseye. This was Hilary’s first time attending the awards in 21 years, and her dress was very 2005. Hilary walked the red carpet in a sequined, metallic Rabanne slip dress with a sweetheart necklace. She paired it with open-toed silver stilettos by Giuseppe Zanotti and tiered diamond-drop earrings. Here’s more about Hilary’s AMAs look from InStyle:
The singer, who presented the award for New Artist of the Year during the ceremony, wore a dramatic silver sequin slip dress by Rabanne for the occasion. It featured a glittering sequin chainmail design with thick sequined straps that merged into a plunging V-neckline. She paired the ankle-length dress with open-toed silver stilettos, wore her blonde hair in a center part, falling straight down her shoulders, and rocked a modern, bronzed makeup look with a mauve lip.
Duff last attended the awards show in 2005. That year, she wore a golden metallic gown with a halter neck and styled her hair in a half-up ‘do with bangs.
The singer is enjoying quite the moment in the spotlight this year. She recently made her return to the music scene with her first album in over a decade, Luck… or Something. The hitmaker also gave her first live show in almost two decades before launching an international tour. To top it all off, she graced her first-ever Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover earlier this month.
I love Hilary’s dress, but I’m also very partial to a sparkly slip dress. That’s because I first started paying attention to red carpet fashion in the late 1990s/early 2000s. The chainmail look felt very fitting for a music awards ceremony in Vegas, and I loved her earrings. Her makeup also looked great. My only complaint is that the dress is slightly too long on her. In some pictures, the length and the way it hung made it look like a fancy night gown.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, Ella Purnell wore this same dress to the 2024 Emmys. Ella styled it differently, with more diamond jewelry, bolder makeup and bouffant curls that gave it more of an old school glam feel. I love when making slight changes to an outfit changes the entire look. That’s part of what makes fashion so much fun.

The big, half empty boob sack doesn’t look great. I love the vibe, though, and I think Ella wore it better. She looks glam, while Hilary’s version looks unfinished. Her hair and make up is like: I make an effort for school run + grocery run.
Yeah, I’m surprised Hilary’s outfit is getting a post because it’s a nothing-burger for me.
Agree that Ella Purnell really owned that look while it does not suit Hilary. The length is wrong on Hilary and it’s not the right color for her. Her entire look is very blah.
Agree with this. Ella looks pretty glamorous and somehow Hilary looks like she’s wearing a nightgown
LOVE that metallic dress! 🤩
You can wear paco rabanne and you pick the most basic and boring Rabanne you can find???? I would get a new stylist after this.
