I’m about halfway through the first season of Prime Video’s Off Campus. I like it so far! I heard about the series after Jennifer Lopez reposted a clip of Mika Abdalla’s character dressed in a replica of her famous green Versace dress and dancing to “On the Floor.” J.Lo and Mika then released a video of them re-creating the scene and dancing together. It was captioned, “It’s a new Jeneration of party people.”
Jennifer was recently on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote Office Romance. While talking to Jimmy about her latest viral moment, she said she discovered the series after learning that “On the Floor,” which features Pitbull, had re-entered the Billboard charts. She was shocked because the last time the song charted was in 2011. Here’s more from People:
“It’s so popular…a phenomenon!” Lopez, 56, exclaimed.
Jimmy Kimmel then pointed out that the show’s star Mika Abdalla, who plays Allie, wore a recreation of the Grammy-nominated artist’s iconic plunging green Versace dress while dancing to “On the Floor” in a steamy moment during a Halloween episode of the show.
Lopez said she discovered the track had reentered the Billboard charts through her team: “They called me, and they were like, ‘On the Floor’ has entered the charts for the first time in 15 years.'”
The Office Romance star was incredibly surprised by the news. “I was like, ‘What?’ It was just like out of the blue. That’s so strange,” she said.
Lopez noted that it has to do with how the music business has changed.
“My kids are listening to all kinds of music that I’ve never even heard of and some stuff that is classic like the Beatles,” said the mom of two.
“I was on the beach… and there was this group of teenage girls on a blanket, a little short distance from us listening to Billy Joel at full volume, and I was so happy.” [Jimmy said.]
Added Lopez: “Listen, great music lives forever, as we know, but it lives in a different way now because they can find it easily.”
Artists license their music to television shows all the time without the song blowing up, so it makes sense that Jennifer was surprised by her song re-charting. The video with Mika probably helped keep those streaming numbers up for another week. I didn’t realize how much music the show features. There’s an official Off Campus playlist on Apple Music that has 69 songs, including that one.
Jennifer is right about kids being exposed to music differently now. “Iris” also recently re-entered Billboard’s streaming charts thanks to that nostalgic 90s TikTok trend. When I was growing up, I only knew whatever was played on the radio or by my parents and friends. My musical tastes expanded so much when I went to college. Jimmy’s story about sitting near the teenage girls who were blasting Billy Joel on the beach made my Long Island heart smile. The youths are discovering the music that I used to listen to. I’m genuinely excited to see what they get into next.
Here’s Jennifer’s interview with Jimmy. I cued it to start during their Off Campus discussion, which includes “On the Floor.” There’s a good bit in there where Jimmy asks her if she still has the Versace dress and gets her to promise to rewear it in 2040.

I love that song, but I’m surprised that it’s back on the charts. There needs to be a whole music festival of people that have done collabs with Pitbull
On The Floor is a banger. Glad to see it making a comeback.
