Survivor has changed a lot over its 50 seasons. Jeff Probst has always said that the game constantly evolves to keep players on their toes and fans from getting bored. There have been so many questionable themes and twists that I’ve always joked that their production team lives by the mantra, “No bad ideas in a brainstorm.” After season 50 ended on a high note, fans wondered what the show’s next era would bring. Well, nobody saw this twist coming: Survivor is going Hollywood. Probst announced on Instagram that CBS and Paramount Animation are developing an animated comedy film with animals as contestants. The tribe has spoken — and it wants an animated “Survivor” movie featuring animal contestants. Paramount Animation, in partnership with CBS, is in development on an animated comedy based on CBS’ long-running “Survivor,” with host Jeff Probst executive producing.
The official synopsis reads: “Set on a remote and mystical island, animals from all around the globe compete for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be crowned the sole Survivor.”
“I’m so excited to be teaming up with Paramount Animation to bring you Survivor like you’ve never seen it before…in the animal kingdom!” Probst wrote on his Instagram. “This will be an all-out comedy with animals competing for the chance to be crowned the sole Survivor. Let’s go!!!!”
“Setting it in the world of animals give us a whole new playground,” Probst said in his video. “It’s still everything we love about ‘Survivor’ — big personalities, funny characters, surprising alliances, competition, chaos — and of course a lot of heart — but this time, the players aren’t human.”
Is an animated Survivor movie super random? Yes. Am I going to watch the heck out of it? Also yes. I have so many questions, though! Will Jeff be voicing the host character? Did he get to pick what animal will play him/the host? Will it be based on real-life contestants? If they do that, there better be a llama named after Tony Vlachos, who famously spoke llama to Chaos Kass McQuillen. I wonder if there’d be an actual Black Widow Brigade modeled after Parvati Shallow, Cirie Fields, Amanda Kimmel, Natalie Bolton, and Alexis Jones. Will there be a chicken named Mark? Speaking of Mark the Chicken, I will be disappointed if Sia doesn’t do the theme song.
The comments under Jeff’s Instagram announcement are full of hilarious comments from both former players and fans. I had a blast reading through them. Rob Cesternino jokingly called the movie, “Oops all MrBeasts” while a fan said that he hoped the sea krait from season 49 would be making a cameo. The Survivor community is going to have so much fun with this movie. I cannot wait.
