Gosh, this is sad. Presley Gerber has passed away at the age of 27. Presley Gerber was the only son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, and Presley is survived by his parents and his younger sister Kaia Gerber. Presley has struggled with addiction for years, but recently, he sought treatment and seemingly turned a corner. Reportedly, he passed away in a treatment center.
Presley Gerber has died. He was 27.
Presley died on Sunday, Sept. 20, at a rehab facility, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records obtained by PEOPLE. TMZ was first to report the news.
A representative for Presley’s mother, Cindy Crawford; father, Rande Gerber and sister, Kaia Gerber, tells PEOPLE, “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
An autopsy has yet to be completed, TMZ reported.
Presley was the son of model Crawford and Rande, a businessman. He was also the brother of model and actress Kaia.
Born in Beverly Hills, Calif., in 1999, Presley was a model himself. He was charged with a DUI in December 2019, and in 2020, he got a tattoo on his face that read, “MISUNDERSTOOD.” (A year later, he appeared to have had it removed.)
Before his death, Gerber began opening up about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse.
“Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do,” he said on the Studio 22 podcast.
This is so sad. I cannot even imagine what Cindy, Rande and Kaia are going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with them, and I hope they press this rehab facility and ask for an autopsy, because… my god. I recently thought about Presley because of Kaia’s September Vogue cover profile. Vogue asked her about her big brother, and she said this:
Her older brother Presley Gerber’s decade-long struggle with drug addiction appears to have provided a sort of foil as Kaia was discovering who she was. “When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” she explains. “I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.” Last December, Presley opened up about his struggles in an Instagram video. Kaia, who has pursued multiple therapeutic modalities and is a champion of psychedelic therapy, in particular, is deeply proud of him. “My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything—and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone.’ There’s only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.”
It struck me, at the time and even moreso now, as such a mature and human way for a younger sister to talk about her brother’s addiction and how the family changed because of it. It’s tremendously sad.

What Kaia said about her brother being a teacher was really insightful and beautiful. Sadly, it seems quite common with famous families that at least one child is more sensitive, vulnerable, and lacking in a strong coping mechanism. Presley strikes me as that type. I’ve known many amazing people like this and my instinct has always been to protect them because they’re naturally more fragile and the world is more difficult for them to navigate. Unfortunately, substance abuse is often a natural path for people who struggle to cope with life’s hardships,
I feel so bad for the family. Sounds like they did everything they could to help and support him. Beyond tragic.

I hate that I didn’t even feel one tiny bit shocked or even surprised when the headline popped up. Something like this should never feel inevitable, but having read about him over the years, well….

Very sad. I recently watched the RHOSLC episode where Mary’s son–who had addiction issues–died three weeks after being released from jail. Died by suicide, poor kid. How awful for both families.
I always thought he looked more like Cindy than Kaia did.

This has really touched a nerve. He was actually the child who looked the most like Cindy. With all that beauty and wealth, he still ends up dead at 27.
That was my thought exactly. You can have all the beauty, money, fame and power in the world and it won’t shield you from addiction, mental disease and this sort of horrific loss. Losing a loved one to addiction is awful, no matter your status in life. My condolences to this family, and all the others that have suffered from this disease.

I’m sure they’ll do an autopsy, but this happening in a rehab facility doesn’t mean they’ve done something wrong — detoxing from long-term substance abuse is VERY hard on the body (on top of the damage the drug use itself has done).
Could be that, but there are other possibilities. Drugs find their way into rehabs all the time, and fentanyl is in everything even when the person thinks they are taking something else.
Whatever the cause, addiction is a killer, and this is incredibly tragic.
I came to say this. There are some really dangerous drugs in the street right now. This is a heartbreaking story, but if a deadly street drug found its way into a fancy rehab center of all places, an autopsy and public announcement might do some good here. Maybe another life can be saved with knowledge about how deadly some of these drugs are. The 1980s of snorting coke with a tequila chaser are long gone.
People are at greatest risk of overdosing after they’ve been “clean” for a while.
That’s what happened with Cory Monteith and Philip Seymour Hoffman. You relapse and use the amount you used to but your body has lost its tolerance and it’s too much and you od.
I read once that the Rolling Stones claim they lived to ripe old ages because they never did rehab. There’s probably a lot of truth to that, but let’s not ignore the issue that drugs are *much deadlier* now. If you haven’t yet heard of cychlorphine, for the love of god google it.
Yep, due to his age there will automatically be an investigation and autopsy performed to determine cause of death.

It is a dangerous time when addicts get clean, health wise. Their whole system is so stressed out from the drug abuse, anything can happen. I am wo sorry for his loved ones.
It could easily be heart failure as anything like a relapse or suicide.

I struggled with major health stuff. Its not addiction per se, but the insane pain mentally and physically. I’ve looked ending things in a humane way.

We need to face that standard rehab, designed for alcoholism circumstances recovery, is a very dangerous way to try to kick opioids. We need to accept that all addictions won’t be treated in the same way.Addicts and their loved ones deserve better.

Very sad for him and his family, what an unspeakable loss. A friend’s husband passed way in rehab, he was detoxing from alcohol (he’d also had extensive drug use but had been clean several years). It’s shocking how often it happens.
Unaware of Presley’s problems, I have seen pictures of this gorgeous, wealthy family and thought what a charmed life they must all lead. Obviously, that was wrong, and I’m so sorry.

I used to attend Al Anon in LA for years and saw all the celebrities cope with themselves, partners, kids (not this family though). The disease is a harrowing one, and it doesn’t matter regarding money, fame, access. I thought of Presley often because he was bravely vocal, and in some ways this is a relief for him, I think. He really suffered for a very long time. Terrible for Cindy, Rande and Kaia, obviously. They’ve suffered too….peace for all of them.
This is so sad. They seemed to be a very close family, they must be devastated right now. It’s a shame that the TMZ moles in the LA coroner’s office managed to leak the news yet again before the family had a change to make their own announcement.

How does someone die in a rehab facility? I always thought that was the safest place to detox, but maybe I’m naive.
There are a variety of ways: some rehabs aren’t equipped or staffed to handle the physical detox: my husband did 2 weeks of medical detox in a hospital unit with before entering a rehab program. A friend of his went to a rehab that has no medical staff and he was supposed to detox before being admitted but didn’t – he ended up having withdrawal seizures and almost died before the ambulance arrived. Some people are clean but their bodies have already been irreparably damaged and maybe their heart just gives out. Neither of those two reasons are the fault of the rehab facility or anyone else. It’s very sad.
That is so, so sad.

I teared up at seeing this news. They’ve always been such a close and loving family. 27. My God. They must be shattered.
I hope they have loads of support around them all. It might be a good time for Kaia to step back from working. I know working can be necessary for some people to deal with grief. But modeling and acting are such toxic industries.
I hope the three of them just go into a cocoon of love and support and gentleness. Or whatever works best for them.

Tragic. We do not know his full story. I do not want to be insensitive, but why allow both of your minor children to begin modeling careers at the tender age of 15? Especially when both parents are insiders and know firsthand what happens in Hollywood and the modelling world?? A video/podcast was posted not too long ago by Presley about how happy he was as a kid and how much he needed physical activity/sports in his life to combat any mental health woes. He seemed like a very sensitive soul, RIP.

Given her brother’s addiction issues, I’m surprised at Kaia’s use of hallucinogenics for ‘therapeutic use’. I know it’s a ‘hot’ therapeutic method right now, but it seems like a mistake.

Cindy lost her brother to cancer when she was a kid. It must have hit her especially hard to lose another male, especially outliving your son. I worked for a hospital system where we tried to minimize clients’ risk of suicide. i hope that was not the case. Sometimes clients find a way, but I remember from reading Matthew Perry’s biography that he had so many health issues from drug use and was a ticking time bomb with heart issues, digestive… Addiction, problems hit all of us. Make us all pause that the rich seem to have everything…behind closed doors
The two most dangerous addictions to detox from are alcohol and opiates. They should always be conducted in a hospital setting qualified to treat detox. Even with proper attention, the withdrawal can take a week or two. Sometimes so much damage has been done through addiction that the body just gives out. So tragic.
Original Mich, why do you think drug dealers put Fentanyl in all drugs and not reveal that ingredient? For Hayden, Tom Petty and Prince, I believe it was Fentanyl which killed them (and they didn’t realize it was mixed in with the drug they wanted). Killing a lot of people is bad for business. Keith Richard of the Stones said he survived years of heroin use because the English government gives the drugs to addicts to avoid all the overdoses our famous people get. But never in America would they do that.

Had a good cry over this today. I used to sometimes see Cindy out in Brentwood about 22 years ago with Presley when he was a boy. Never with nannies, security, etc. just a mom running errands with her best little guy. She’d always be holding Presley’s hand. Always. As a college student at NYU, I’d seen her a few times out to dinner with her first husband, and I always thought it was great for her that she changed course and had a family because she seemed so happy as a mom. Doesn’t matter how famous you are or how much money you have, losing is a child is the worst thing that can happen to you.
