Is Heather Locklear suicidal and battling alcoholism?

heatherlocklear1.jpg
It looks like there may be more to the phony 911 call to actress Heather Locklear’s home than originally believed. At first, it was reported that the 911 call was a mistake, but since the 911 tape has been released, sources say that the individual who called was actually Locklear’s psychiatrist, who received a late night phone call from her in which she revealed that she “felt like killing [her]self.”

An audio tape of a man, reported to be Heather Locklear’s psychiatrist, requesting emergency assistance at the actress’ house has been publicly released. “I have a patient and I have a feeling she’s suicidal. And I would want someone to go [check on her],” says the caller whose name was apparently redacted before the tape was released to the public.

The 911 call came in on Saturday, March 8. Authorities said they found no problems when they responded to the call and Locklear’s rep said the actress was “fine.”

But The ENQUIRER can exclusively reveal that Locklear has had a years-long battle with booze, drugs and depression, she has detoxed in private, lived with sober companions and secretly been hospitalized for her problems, according to a source.

“Heather was on the phone with her psychiatrist when he became alarmed because she was upset and seemed intoxicated,” a close pal told The ENQUIRER. “At one point Heather said: ‘I’m just so sad and bummed out, I feel like killing myself right now!’

“Her doctor did not take it as an idle threat.”

[From the National Enquirer Online]

As usual, any story in the Enquirer is suspect by nature. I certainly hope that if Heather is battling substance abuse and depression, she gets treatment. She’s been around forever and seems to be very well liked in Hollywood. It should be noted that her ex, Richie Sambora, has a longstanding alcohol problem and was just in rehab at Cirque in Utah. This may not mean anything, but considering how long Richie and Heather were married, perhaps they were both enabling each other all those years.

Whatever the truth is, Heather has every right to keep her situation to herself. There’s still not a definitive confirmation that the man in the 911 tapes really is her doctor, or that Locklear is even seeing a psychiatrist. I just hope she’s okay.

It bugs me that people talk as though depression is a choice. And contrary to what some might think, sobriety is not a cure for depression. A lot of us longtime sober alcoholics just go on miserably day after day because we know our drinking days hurt our families and bank accounts. But we’re no happier. It’s just the right thing to do.

  3. Teresa says:

Richie did not have a longstanding battle with alcohol, it was triggered by Heather’s downward spiral that started when Spin City got cancelled and she couldn’t get work. She was drinking more, became depressed and took that depression out on her husband by filing for divorce behind his back then telling lie after lie about him to cover it up

He fell into depression and drinking pretty quickly after that but had people around him who LOVE him, unlike Heather clearly, and he got help before things got really bad. Heather is in a desperate state and no one is addressing it in her life; the one person who loved her was the one person she dumped mercilessly and whose life she destroyed, Richie’s

This is all her own doing and her battles have actually ruined many many people’s lives. Her own family appear to have abandoned her now, or rather she has dumped them too.

Teresa is an alias for Denise Richards?

Sorry, Teresa, I’m just teasing. But I’ve never heard any of this before, where did you read/hear it?

  5. MSat says:

That’s not what Richie has said in interviews. Sambora has been quoted as saying that he’s had issues with alcohol since way back when Bon Jovi first became successful in the ’80s- those wild days of touring and groupies really took their toll on him. Even Jon has confirmed this.

  6. Rosie says:

Get a grip Heather, you have a 10 year old daughter that needs you!

  7. Goes by another name says:

I do know one other Sambora fan and she’d probably say something very similar to Teresa 😉

I’ve decided to change my name for this reply, not that i’m ashamed of it, but I do have a family to consider.

I grew up the child of an alcoholic. Ive never any doubt that he didn’t love his family, but the fact remains that he, and any other alcoholics I know, are colossally selfish people. Not through malice, but that’s the way addiction seems to work to an out sider. It’s taken me years to see that.

It’s not that alcoholics don’t care about their families, but the need for drink is stronger – although ironically many are ashamed about what they’re doing and the effect on their families. Even at a subconscious level. As alcohol is a depressant, they’re often left with depression and a nagging sense of failure. And the advice is to “think of your children and snap out of it”? Christ. Without ranting, you’re honest to God, plain old fashioned wrong Rosie. And I hope to God you’ll never have to find out what it’s like to deal with an addict of any kind.

many can stay from drink for years – but once they’re back on it *poof*. And to have TWO addicts in one relationship… YIKES!!! maybe the fling with Denise Richards was a good thing? Ok much worse in the short term for Heather, but as MSat says, it could actually be they were enabling each other for years.

  8. Teresa says:

Richie has said no such thing in interviews. He did say that he was drinking too much at the end of the 80s but he dealt with that by himself and it was fine. What happened last year is that he ended up being confronted by all his worst fears in one big hit so he turned to booze to help him, which it didn’t. he needed to learn new ways of coping with grief, stress and depression.

With Heather, things are very different. She isn’t mourning anything, she isn’t dealing with a sick parent, she’s no thousands of miles away from her child. she’s at home in her mansion and I’m sorry but i do feel that it’s a cop out.

She may have problems but they are problems Richie desperately tried to get her to deal with years ago. He was a big part in keeping them under control for her. He’s o longer there and now someone else is dealing with her tantrums and tiaras THANK HEAVENS for Richie.

This is what Heather is like, the public are starting to see the build up that has been there for years and years. Richie covered it up for her and their daughter.

Her ”career” is over. She isn’t content to be at home, she has nothing to do there and she sure as hell isn’t interested in being a mother

I’m just more surprised that people are surprised by this. I’m also shocked they are tryign to find other reasons for it, or blaming the Doctor. he was only doing his JOB.

best of luck to Richie and to Ava. They are going to need it but at least the public might ding out what caused the breakdown of that marriage FOR REAL and not the lies that Heather’s publicist puts out there to protect Heather. By the way, I am LOVING that her publicist got caught out in those lies…yeah right no psychiatrist called the police, WE HAVE THE TAPE NOW AND HAVE HEARD THE EVIDENCE.

  9. MSat says:

Teresa, I’m not sure where you get your info from, but in the VH1 “Behind the Music” special on the band, Richie admits that he spent most of the “7800 Fahrenheit” tour drunk. It wasn’t until Jon gave him the ultimatum of clean up or get out that he cleaned up his act. The band did a lot of charity work for alchohol abuse awareness after that.

More recently, Richie was clearly drunk or at least buzzed when the band hosted and was the musical guest on SNL last year.

  10. summertime921 says:

Damn, I had no idea that there were Richie-loonies that rival those from another group of celebrites… 🙂

  11. Visitor says:

The entire band of BJ drank to excess back then. I’ve even seen Jon toasted and Richie having to hold him up. Tico was a mean boozer. But I’m not going to get all involved in your absurd post, because you can read the intellect behind it. LMAO.

Teresa, so right on Locklear’s publicist. I was waiting for the LIES to come – always lies from Locklear and her publicist. Now they’re scrambling to figure out how to clean all this up so that the public is duped into thinking she was never suicidal, etc., etc. When really, she should be getting treatment for her pills & boozing. Some work on her self-absorption would also be a benefit.

  12. Teresa says:

Bull SHIT MSat. Sorry but there is no where on that BTM that Jon mentions that because that clearly wasnt the case. David was the one who was warned he might be kcked out because he was showing very little regard for the hard work the band were putting in and he kep leaving early from rehearsals. Richie did NOT have those kind of problems prior. he dealt with them himself.

As for SNL, no WAY was Richie anythign but nervous. It is ridiculous that people would accuse him of that when the poor guy did so well at rehearsal only a few minutes beforehand and EVERYONE in the studio made it clear that Richie had been out on the stage prior to going live, talking to the crew, and was PERFECTLY SOBER and nervous. So clearly your view of Richie is more than skewed, and on top of that you have not watched the same BTM as the rest of the universe. Delusional would be a good phrase.

  13. celebitchy says:

STFU Teresa or you will get banned. You made your point multiple times, and don’t go attacking MSat.

  14. headache says:

Clearly, Denise Richards still holds a torch for Sambora otherwise she wouldn’t be taking time out from her busy work schedule screwing up her kids’ lives and thinking of ways to get back at Charlie Sheen to post long diatribes on Sambora’s innocence in the marriage.

  15. mollination says:

I wish I knew who “Goes By another Name is”.

Don’t you use an alias anyways? I doubt your family would read this comment thread and/or know it was you. Anyway, that’s just me being nosy and I appreciate that you shared your story. You never know how many people are in the same boat that you could be helping.
