Biggest Loser’s Jillian Michaels: “I’ve dated men and I’ve dated women”

NBC Universal Summer Press Day
Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels caused a minor controversy last month with some comments she gave to Women’s Health about how she was going to adopt because she “can’t handle doing that [pregnancy] to my body.” She later tried to clarify her statements and admitted that while she did say that, she never said she “wouldn’t” get pregnant or that she thought it would “ruin” her body, as some outlets reported. For all you can say about Jillian, she’s definitely outspoken.

In the February issue of Ladies Home Journal, Jillian said that she is attracted to both men and women and that it’s not the gender but the quality of the love that influences her. “Let’s just say I believe in healthy love. If I fall in love with a woman, that’s awesome. If I fall in love with a man, that’s awesome. As long as you fall in love… it’s like organic food. I only eat healthy food, and I only want healthy love!

Jillian discussed her orientation with Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos and she said that she doesn’t care what what people say about her, and that she doesn’t really classify herself. I like how she explained this, and the fact that she’s semi-open about it without making a big deal out of it. She still bugs me, but I like how she handled this:

The sexuality issue is the same as anything. It’s like shades of gray. I was a kid, you know. I don’t want for someone to be like ‘oh, she’s a liar.’ I’ve experimented, I’ve tried these things. I’ve dated men and I’ve dated women. I don’t know what’s… going to happen. I hope to get married one day. I don’t know if that’s going to happen. If I fall in love with a football player, if I fall in love with a supermodel. Who really cares? I don’t really classify myself as anything, and if people aren’t supportive of this or that I really don’t care. I just care what you had for breakfast.

[From interview with Access Hollywood]

That was a non-answer answer, but it’s her business and she didn’t have to say anything about it. I’m thinking she’s with a woman now (she has a partner named “mouse” who she’s mentioned online) but that she doesn’t think of herself as gay or bi. Again, she didn’t have to say anything about it and it’s up to her how much she tells the public.

Later in the interview, Maria raided Jillian’s refrigerator and came across some damning food in the freezer. At first Jillian tried to blame a cake on the fact that her brother is visiting, but when Maria found some Ben and Jerry’s ice cream Jillian admitted that she’d had ice cream for dinner the night before! Jillian is promoting her new reality show, Losing It With Jillian, in which she gives health and lifestyle advice to overweight families. I’m thinking that ice cream is not part of the initial plan.

Here’s a clip from Losing It With Jillian, which premieres on NBC June 1.

    She bugs me too.

  2. Me says:

This woman’s 15 minutes are up!!

  3. Darlene says:

I love her. Whom she loves is her business. One day we’ll get the “Yes I’m Gay” People cover but until then, she can keep her business to herself.

And if you work out all the time and eat healthy 95% of the time, you can CERTAINLY have ice cream for dinner once in a while.

All things in moderation, especially moderation. (Oscar Wilde)

  4. John Doe says:

She was born a man though right?

  5. Stephie says:

She’s human. Good to know. She gets on my nerves sometimes with the screaming but I like her well enough on TBL. Wondering about her new show coming up. Hope it’s better than it sounds.

  6. EMV says:

I kind of like her…and healthy love is important. I guess for me I have always felt that every bisexual person I know seems to be greedy.

  7. Lita says:

Seriously, defining sexual orientation = so 1980’s. Who cares!! I have no. idea who this woman is but that is my vote – just that I like reading CB posts 😀

  8. embertine says:

Hey, I’m generally a healthy eater but I had Ben&Jerry’s for dinner the other night too.

I know nothing about this woman and she sounds like she could be very annoying but as I’m a member of the “don’t label my sexuality, and I’ll eat damn well ice cream if I want to” brigade myself I think this is awesome.

  9. Feebee says:

I don’t think she gave a non-answer. She basically said she swings both ways. There’s your answer.

As for the ice cream, I think if anyone can handle a dinner of ice cream once in a while she can. I just wish she wouldn’t act like she’s be prepared to boil her charges in oil if they so much as looked at the stuff.

Still can’t STAND the woman but I don’t begrudge her love or ice cream.

  10. Bella Mosley says:

As I’ve said 100’s of times: A person’s sexual preference should be private and not an anouncement for the press. It’s really not like the press cares as if you’re straight it isn’t news. They only ‘go to print’ if the celeb is gay or bi. If you would stop making such a big deal of this maybe it would be accepted and children would longer be tormented, actors could play any part without criticism based on something that has nothing to do with their performance and hate crimes against gays would be a thing of the past. But then I guess you would wouldn’t be able to report on those crimes either. Maybe you would have to actually report on news!

  11. wtf says:

    @John Doe
    Yes.

She bugs me. and so do non-answer answers. just say it’s private and move on. experimented???? How old is she?!?!?!

  12. JJ says:

Looking at her body, I’d say she’s earned the right to a little Ben & Jerry’s.

  13. Alison E says:

I love her so bad. She’s also copped to eating cookies for breakfast on her facebook.

I’ve said it before and I’ve said it again: I needed her “mean,” drill-sergeant-esque style. Other workout videos would say, “If this is too hard, walk in place,” and I would do it. She says, “No, you get no rest, 400 lb people can do jumping jacks so DO IT.” So I do it.

And I am in the best shape of my life. So she worked for me. I am not saying she should or will work for everyone – that is why Baskin Robbins has thirty one flavors. But I love her.

And good for her for handling the sexuality issue so gracefully.

  14. snowball says:

The bigger news isn’t that she’s straight, gay or bi (can I roll my eyes that it’s some sort of a shock?), it’s that she horks ice cream and cake and is seemingly ashamed of it.

I don’t think the people who follow her diet programs religiously care about her sexual preference, but they’d feel a lot better about their own screw-ups if they knew their little diet idol dipped into the sea of deliciousness known as Cherry Garcia now and then herself.

Come out of the SUGAR CLOSET JILLIAN!

  15. zen says:

Im with Bella, I couldnt care less about these celebs sexual orientation.
Not sure what the big deal about this is any more.

  16. freckles says:

I absolutely HATE this woman. So imagine how appalled I am to say that

    a) I love the way she handled the questions about her sexuality… she told it how it was but didn’t try to get in anyone’s face about it, and I think she has a great point with the healthy love thing. Personally I don’t blur the boundaries like she does but really that’s her choice and more power to her.

    b) Leave the woman alone, it’s ice cream not crack cocaine! At least she’s not Goopy’s trainer, dipping oreos in frosting and eating Cheeto’s every other meal.

  17. anon says:

Bella said it best. And honestly who f&*$**

cares about orientation? How about ethics? Things that MATTER? I’m sick to death of people getting covers for talking about their sexuality . WHO CARES! Our puritanical society is still sex obsessed so I guess it’ll be happening for a while yet.

And @ that stupid Chely person/country singer, annoying mugging in all her photos now thinking ‘OH! This is working! People know mne now!
Cha ching! Anything for extra fame and attention. This crap should just be a non issue but that takes maturity and the media are not mature i suppose.

  18. irishserra says:

    Suuuurpriiiise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. gg says:

    She’s too mean.

  20. Peg says:

Good for her! Haha “I just care what you had for breakfast.”

  21. Milan says:

I’m so sick of all these celebs who are suddenly bisexual. Its like the latest hollywood trend, you know like african babies are so 2008 or something. I think some of these ‘celebs’ might be making a mockery of the real thing. Just you wait folks, Chris Brown might soon be coming out of the closet as a bisexual, who equally beats the crap out of both sexes to jumpstart his career. Kind of like dancing with the stars, except your vadge gets famous for loving other vadges and peens. Crikey!

  22. Emily says:

I always thought she was gay when I used to watch the Biggest Loser, so I’m not surprised by this. I liked the way she answered that, but I would’ve liked it if she just said she eats junk food sometimes, and it’s okay in moderation. I think that’s a much healthier (not to mention more realistic) way to live.

  23. Alexis says:

I am so not surprised. I’m surprised that I’m not surprised. She’s so aggressive…she just likes hard, fit bodies…doesn’t discriminate.

  24. ashleighlauren says:

    @Bella etc

The reason celebrities come out of the closet is because being queer in this country is not accepted. A lot of “mainstream” Americans still think that in order to be gay you have to be some crazy stereotype. (Don’t get me wrong, I love me some stereotypical gay people, but I also love what Sue Sylvester calls “sneaky gays.”)

Harvey Milk had the right idea. As long as people can convince themselves that they don’t know any gay people, it’s okay to discriminate. That’s why it’s important for librarians, aunts, doctors, teachers, construction workers, etc to come out of the closet and acknowledge who they are. It’s a lot harder for people to vote against civil unions and gay adoption when they know that someone they know and like is gay.

I wish we lived in a world where it’s not important. But I wish a lot of things. I wish I could walk down the street holding my girlfriend’s hand. I wish that my best friend didn’t routinely get shoved into lockers in high school because it was okay to gay bash him. More than anything, I wish that I could marry and legally raise children with my girlfriend. But I can’t. Because we’re not there (as a country) yet. And we will never get there if people hide who they are.

  25. Emily says:

    Well said, ashleigh!

  26. Squirtle says:

Yeah I would hardly call this shocking news…I’ve always thought she was gay if not bi, she just seemed like it to me.

  27. Tia says:

she has an amazing body… who gives a shi* about sexual orientation. I don’t think that is why she said it, she was simply clarifying and people jump down her throat.. she is awesome and does killer workouts… all for bi and gay people.. lovely people who apparently are very in nowadays.. times are a changing
