Is Matt Lauer splitting with his wife & having an affair with Meredith Vieira?

wenn1296780

I’ve been hearing sh-t about Matt Lauer’s marriage problems, real or alleged, for a while now. I seem to remember some rumors about how he and his Dutch wife Annette Roque separated last year or something, and they haven’t been photographed together in a while. This is the first time I realized he’s already on his second marriage, though. His current (maybe estranged) wife Annette is his second wife, and they’ve been married since 1998. His first wife was a television producer named Nancy Alspaugh, and they were married from 1982-89. Nancy is the one the National Enquirer interviews, and her quotes seem to be the basis for this week’s cover story.

Previous Enquirer story:
Today Show star Matt Lauer’s six-year marriage to stunning model Annette Roque is over, sources claim. The National Enquirer can reveal that in recent weeks the 47- year-old TV star has been secretly shopping for his own New York City apartment.

“I heard he and Annette are breaking up,” confirmed Lauer’s ex-wife Nancy Alspaugh. “I was not shocked to hear that. But it’s very sad.”

Dutch-born Annette, 39, the mother of their two children, is said to be heartbroken by the difficulties in their marriage which in the past has been dogged by stories of his womanizing.

*****New Enquirer story:

MATT LAUER has walked out on his wife of 12 years after she furiously accused the Today star of cheating with at least two women, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

After an explosive two-day fight, the 52-year-old father of three moved out of the family home – and his fed-up wife Annette is no longer wearing her wedding ring, reveal sources.

AND in an exclusive ENQUIRER interview, Annette’s mother confirmed the marital blowup and that Matt has left the family apartment.

The ENQUIRER learned an enraged Annette accused Matt of fooling around during Today’s on-site coverage of the Olympics in Vancouver.

According to a source, the broadcaster and colleagues “went wild” at nightspots.

[From The National Enquirer]

Oh, so he’s supposed to be a womanizer! Does anyone know who he’s allegedly been boning? I did a one-minute Google search and apparently there are rumors about Matt and his Today co-anchor Meredith Vieira! Social Mediaseo claims: “There isn’t a whole lot of substance to there rumors at the moment, but the allegations are substantial enough to where people are starting to talk about this issue on a pretty large scale.” So basically, a lot of conjecture based on Meredith and Matt’s on-screen chemistry?

I seem to recall Matt & his wife were separated for awhile a few years back (and did he look miserable at the time). Whatever the issues, they appeared to work through them and reconciled. I’m going to wait and see, but I don’t think he & Meredith are involved in anything besides work.

  2. Jessica says:

WOW this Nancy chick is a total loser. They have been divorced for over 20 years … she needs to get over it already! How did they even find her? She sounds pathetic. Get a life!!

  3. Jessica says:

PS Matt is just being glib

  4. JulieNewmar says:

Remember when he was hottt …

  5. YT says:

Might as well link him to the Rachel Uchitel bandwagon too.

  6. Leticia says:

JEssica, your comment about him being glib is priceless!

  7. Marjalane says:

He’s probably cattin’ around but I seriously doubt if it’s with M. Viera- Have you seen her in hi-def? Yikes. Although she’s never made a secret of the fact that she gets her “physical needs” away from her very ill husband. I think he has M.S.

  8. Joan says:

    @ BellaLuna –
You are right! They were separated some years ago and they had another child not long after reconciling. I hope the poor kid was not used as a “marriage-saving tool”.

Ewww. I cannot imagine him having an affair with Viera. Ewww again.

  9. Team Bethenny says:

Which is it? “47- year-old TV star” or “52-year-old father”? And does he have 2 children, or 3?

These are pretty simple facts for Natl Enquirer to check; you’d think someone would get them right.

  10. Joan says:

    @ Team Bethenny –
I think those quotes were from two different occasions; the first being from when they separated in 2006 and the second from the current time. I can see how you were confused, though!

  11. bellaluna says:

    @ Joan –

I hope not too. That generally doesn’t work out well, for the child or the parents involved. And ITA on the Viera thing.

  12. LolaBella says:

Gah, I hope this isn’t true. I am holding out hope that not all men cheat on their wives and potentially fuck up their families for a piece on the side.

While I think that he and Meredith have great chemistry, it looks more like a brother/sister relationship as opposed to a sexual one.

Then again, who the hell really knows. 🙁

  13. lucy2 says:

I agree that on air w/MV is a brother sister type relationship, and I highly doubt it’s anything beyond that off camera.
Why would his ex from 20 years ago comment publicly on this, and how would she know anyway? That’s lousy of her. If they are having issues or are separated, that’s their business and up to them if they want to make it public.
I think they got a shot of him going to the dry cleaners or something and use it to illustrate him moving out.

  14. guesty says:

    @jessica…LOL!!

  15. guesty says:

AND…as for the viera thing @joan…double ew.

  16. mel says:

Matt Lauer too, is any man faithful? and boning Meredith Viera, yuck.

  17. pixie says:

I think Matt is a borderline sleeze. There have been rumors in the NYC papers for years. I remember numerous stories about his womanizing with young staffers when his wife was pregnant. I hope she leaves him because she is the long suffering wife in the truest sense.

  18. Lynne says:

He’s so smarmy and arrogant, wouldn’t shock me in the least

  19. Judy says:

    Let’s spell Meredith’s name correctly–it’s Vieira.

  20. Naye in VA says:

The article says she accused him and he walked out. she didnt walk out on him he walked out on her…supposedly. Maybe its oe of those things where he made some mistakes in the past and they reconciled but every little thing that he does is analyzed and analyzed by his wife even when hes trying to be faithful. that s*%# sucks. especially when you are trying to rectify your mistakes. i think shes insecure and nags and pecks at him and he couldnt stand it anymore so he left.

I know a lot of you will be like “well its his fault for messing around” but that may have supposedly been about four years ago. If you cant trust the person anymore then MOVE ON. dont make both yourself and the other person miserable.

  21. Naye in VA says:

    and really Viera? not likely

  22. Feebee says:

I find the first bit believeable, the second bit, no.

  23. canadianchick says:

I’m not surprised. If you watch his body langyuage with attractive starlets he interviews, he isn’t just attracted, he often is aggressive in his questioning to hide his desire. I never liked Meredith, I think she was tacky on the View and I think Ann should’ve got the job on the Today show as she’s smarter and more attractive than Meredith. Hope his wife goes rogue and takes a pile of his money though I’m sure he has an iron clad prenup.

  24. 1 qt of 1 % says:

Canadianchic I agree. There is no one better than Ann, altho I do not dislike Meredith.

I do think the wife looks very bad in the first pic. Marital discord must have been going on for some time.

  25. buckley says:

I tend to not believe this but would not be surprised if it were true.
In other news, Annete is gorgeous.

  26. KateNonymous says:

They’ve already been together about 11 years longer than I would have predicted.

  27. Judy says:

Whatever anyone might think of him personally, Matt is well-established, well read, informed, and well respected in the news industry and among peers. I agree w/ canadianchic’s remarks regarding Meredith and think she is often inappropriate even on TODAY, but she has grown on me somewhat. However, I have always believed that spot should have gone to Ann Curry. Wouldn’t be surprised if something is going on w/ Matt and Meredith and had wondered about it even before reading this, and, although I like Matt, I don’t doubt for a minute that he is otherwise involved due to his past history.

  28. Morgs says:

Isn’t Anne curry the chick who pretty much molested Bradley Pitt’s face in Cannes?

  29. may says:

i seem to remember a blind item about this one, i think this is true

if i find it i’ll post it

  30. Jeri says:

I doubt the Matt & Meridith story. Sometimes he is downright rude to her. She has a husband with a serious illness that has grown progressively worse over the years. They knew about it years ago but there is nothing that can be done. (Not sure if it is the same thing as Michael Fox has.) I always think of him when Meridith is out.

  31. Mistral says:

Wonder where his wife was during the Olympics? Was she in Vancouver with him? Were his kids? If it’s true, it often seems to be a person at work who becomes “the other person”.

  32. Anti-icon says:

National TV reporters and anchors are notoriously unfaithful. Matt has a long history of this behavior. I believe it; possibly even believe the gossip about him and Meredith. The Today Show is staffed with a bunch of journalistic posers. I stopped watching that mess years ago.

  33. Judy says:

I like TODAY except for that crude, loud, obnoxious, totally lacking in grace or class Jenna Wolfe.

  34. Moops says:

Really, guys? Ann Curry? She is the WORST thing on the Today show. Her interviews are downright painful. All she can do is mock sincerity while she reads off a teleprompter.

    • Karma says:

I completely agree about Ann Curry, she was painful to watch. My husband and I would have cringe-fests in the morning.

She interviewed this one couple who lost their son, and apologies that details escape me, but she opened up with a run-on question that incorporated every logical answer a grieving couple would have to the loss of their young child.

It left the polite parents with the opening response to nation about their child…

      “Uh, yeah.”

And strange enough, the question was so bad that anything else would have almost seemed rude to Ann Curry after she emoted so many feelings to the parents. It was awful as each of her emote-questions left the parents no where else to discuss their feelings or describe their son in their own words.

So they were left with shallow, yes or no, responses when you could tell they were expecting a real conversation to occur.

It’s hard to explain how much space Ann consumed in that interview, and doubt I did it justice, but that show’s format didn’t play to her strengths.

That said, they really treated her badly during her firing. But they should have never given her the job in the first place. It didn’t seem like she enjoyed doing most of the segments.

  35. Em says:

I watch the Today show every morning, and Matt typically seems pretty annoyed at having to be near Meredith.

  36. K McFarlane says:

I have never sensed even a whiff of sexual chemistry between Matt and Meredith. I think that part of the story at least is clutching at straws.
