Is Jennifer Aniston moving to Hawaii now?

fp_4961764_aniston_kidman_lac_050710

The National Enquirer has a big story about how Jennifer Aniston has fallen in love with Hawaii while filming Just Go With It. She’s so in love, she’s considering moving there permanently, sort of. The headline is all about Jennifer “leaving Hollywood for Hawaii” but really, the article is just about how Jennifer is considering buying a home there. Now, by my estimation, Jennifer is worth about $150 million, give or take $20 million or so. And also, just pulling this out of what I know about her, doesn’t she only own property in LA, and maybe Mexico too (although I think she just rents the Mexico property)? So, she could looking to buy in Hawaii as a second home, or a beach house or whatever. If I had her money, I would be doing something similar. If I had that money, I would have houses all over the place. And they wouldn’t be decorated like Ron Burgandy’s lair either.

JENNIFER ANISTON says aloha to Hollywood! Fed up with box-office disappointments and fizzled romances, the Friends beauty plans to make a new start in Hawaii, pals say.

The 41-year-old actress – encouraged by close friend Oprah Winfrey – is buying a getaway home on the island of Maui in the hope that the change of scenery will recharge her personal and professional life.

Jen fell in love with the area while recently and quickly realized Hawaii might be “just what she’s been looking for,” a close pal told The ENQUIRER.

“She says the island vibe is just what she needs to counter the Hollywood rat race. And her extended stay inspired her to buy a house.”

Jen has toured several oceanfront homes in the Wailea section of Maui, and she also looked at a ranch in Napili, according to reports. When Oprah heard she was looking, Oprah offered her support, telling Jen the island state is the “land of new starts,” the source said.

“Jennifer knows that reconnecting with nature and the ocean would be healing.”

[From The National Enquirer, print and online editions]

Why does Oprah always butt in? Can’t a girl meet with some real estate agents without it needing to be sanctified by The Oprah? Eh. Anyway, this is probably just crap, something made up because the Enquirer was like, “Oh, she’s filming there. Is that a story?” In the past, Aniston has been allegedly planning moves to New York, London and Scotland (for Gerard Butler!). My guess is that if Aniston does buy, it will just be a second home. Plus, she should probably just break down and buy property in Mexico. She spends so much time there!

Good for her. I wish I could afford a place in Hawaii!

  2. lrmsd says:

You cannot own land in mexico, in certain areas in particular, it is off limits to foreigners. This changes regularly, but last I knew, you would own the house but lease the land for 100 yrs. Particularly in popular resort areas like baja, including cabos where JA likes to go.

It may not be a good investment for her.

  3. Lilias says:

I’d buy in Hawaii. It’s so beautiful there and the weather is gorgeous. That is, if I had the boogoogles of money she has.

  4. Melanie says:

I think it is difficult for foreigners to purchase propery in Mexico as vacation homes.

  5. Liana says:

Melanie and Lilias, I think you’re right. At one time, you couldn’t own any waterfront property in Mexico unless you were a citizen. I think that might be true still, not positive, though.

  6. RobN says:

Who wouldn’t buy a second home in Hawaii if they could afford it?

  7. meme says:

“Jennifer knows that reconnecting with nature and the ocean would be healing.” are you fucking kidding me? healing from what exactly?

  8. maritza says:

I’m surprised she hadn’t bought before, after all the woman is crazy about the beaches and sunbathing. I can just imagine the parties she’ll be having there. Lucky bitch!

  9. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named says:

well, this will make it easier to scream at the ocean, I suppose.

  10. Sugar & Spice says:

And when she was shagging Vince Vaughn she was going to buy a place in Chicago too…Seriously though, lots of people buy homes in Hawaii so I’m not sure why the story other than just for publicity.

  11. Miranda Ann says:

“Jennifer knows that reconnecting with nature and the ocean would be healing.”

    ——————————————————————-
This just made me laugh out loud!! Jennifer Aniston is not smart enough to even think about “reconnecting” with anything, let alone nature and the ocean!! All that woman can do is yoga and sunning on the beach. She is the most shallow, vapid celebrity I can think of and she doesn’t even care if everybody knows it. And, how does buying property in Hawaii equate to making hit movies or meeting a man? These made up stories are getting dumb and dumber!!! Seriously.

Re: Mexico. I don’t know much about buying real estate in Mexico but I do know that there is a very large colony of Americans in Rosarita(sp?), just south of Tijuana who own expensive houses on the beach. I can’t imagine they would do that if they only owned the house and not the land. Doesn’t make sense to me. Anyway, I was in San Diego a couple years ago and I went to Rosarita to look at the area and houses for my brother because he wanted to retire there. I talked to a few Americans who loved the place because it was so close to San Diego. Anyway, my brother decided not to buy in Mexico because of all the druggie cartels and murders down there these days. Just saying, I think you all might be mistaken about that land thing.

  12. california angel says:

Totally believable that anyone who spends long enough there wants to live there: ) Sigh*

  13. dre says:

    Miranda: Blah, Blah, Blah.
    Jealous much?

  14. meme says:

@Miranda Ann – so you really think Jennifer Aniston is more shallow and vapid than say Parisite Hilton, Heidi Montag, Jessica Biel to name a few?

  15. lucy2 says:

meme, I was thinking the same, but I was going to list, Paris, Lindsay, and Megan Fox!

I would SOOO buy in Hawaii, it will be step 1 when I win the lottery. 🙂

I doubt it’s true, but if it is – lots of celebs have houses on the islands, including Harrison Ford and Pierce Brosnan. Yet somehow I doubt the papers described their purchases in terms of “healing” or a “land of new starts”. Maybe, like them, Jen just wants a vacation house?

I’m just tired of the tabloids constantly describing her that way. Like her, hate her, or don’t care, fine, whatever, but it’s been YEARS! Time for the tabloids to give it up already.

  16. steve says:

Maui is great especially the west side. We’d love to have jennifer there

  17. Obvious says:

@Miranda Ann, you can lease the land for up to 100 years, by the point who cares? you’ll be gone. so they probably do own homes, just not the land.

that being said JA is FAAAAR from the most vapid. as meme said Jess Biel, Hilton, Montag, Cyrus and countless others are so much worse than JA.

  18. Liana says:

Nope, Miranda, we’re not all wrong, but there is a loophole which allows it. I asked a real estate attorney who deals with properties in Mexico. Foreigners cannot outright own any land in the “restricted zone” which includes waterfront properties. They can, however, have a fidelicomiso, which is a trust in which the bank owns the property and the buyer owns the rights for exclusive use of the property and they are afforded all rights as a direct owner, for the most part (including sale, lease, or transfer). These trusts have to be renewed every 50 years.

  19. Juiceinla says:

At first I was like “who cares”, but the more I thought about it, I was like

    “jeebuz, who cares.”

Nice job Enquirer – spinning nothing out of nothing.

also, @meme: “Parasite Hilton” is awesome, only I want to use if for that deucebag Perez… Permission?

  20. Beth says:

Everytime Jennifer dates somebody or makes a movie the tabs claim she is moving to the movie location or her “boyfriend’s” hometown. Besides I don’t see her buying anyplace other then Mexico. She goes there at least 3 or 4 times a year. I think she’s been to Hawaii 3 or 4 times her whole life.

  21. Casey says:

    gawd, is she STILL healing?

  22. Lisa says:

Jennifer Aniston is possibly buying property in Hawaii. Truly groundbreaking.

  23. Peanut says:

How does she still look so young, even with all that sunbathing she does?!? The woman is possibly the best looking 41 year old I’ve ever seen!! *grumble grumble*

  24. Casey says:

re: Peanut – it’s the HEALING.

  25. Sumodo1 says:

Hold the phone–when she was filming “The Breakup” in Chicago with Vince Vaughn, there were rumors Anniston was buying property there, too.

Sure she’s buying in Hawaii. Sure. Whatever.

  26. Ruffian9 says:

    Casey:
    HA

    Diet Coke on keyboard..

    Thanks dude!

  27. canadianchick says:

If I was an American I would totally live in Hawaii, it’s glorious, @steve you’re so lucky!

  28. Majosha says:

Beth, how could you possibly know how many times Jen has been to Hawaii? Are you her travel agent?

Juiceinla: Michael K actually came up with “Parasite Hilton” and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if you spread the love.

  29. Jake says:

I remember when she tried to ask Keanu Reeves out and he wasn’t interested.

  30. archiepelago says:

Oh come on! Yesterday it was Nicole doesn’t tan and now this?

  31. CB Rawks says:

“Jennifer knows that reconnecting with nature and the ocean would be healing.”

    BLEEEEEUURGH.
    Pretentiousness makes me upchuck.

  32. Shi-gatsu says:

Anyone else fall asleep during Miranda Ann’s rant?

  33. NFLmama says:

Angelina vacationed there with her mom and bro in 1981.

  34. Josephina says:

    Miranda —

Great post. I get your point.

Given her potential of influence, you would think she would do more. As a woman, you want to see more than her sun bathing and hanging out with friends in Mexico. After all, this is how she is portrayed the most through photographs. Maybe some of us would be more satisfied if she threw herself more into her work and give the audience outstanding performances that people will never forget. But that is not Jen.

She is known for her cute looks, her physique, her hair, her light-heartedness and simple thoughts. For many on this blog, this is more than enough to ask of her. They are quite delighted with the results of her professional/personal life because they can relate to it.

For you and others, including myself, you expect and want more out of her. She just may not be your #1 choice celebrity.

  35. Liana says:

    pretention is so boring.

  36. mslewis says:

I think some people think living in Hawaii would be great but a lot of people who move there get “island fever” quickly and want to leave after a few years. My nephew lived there for three years and after a year he couldn’t wait to move. He said he felt trapped with all that water surrounding him. I wouldn’t know because I’ve only visited for a couple weeks at a time and all of the islands are spectacular and beautiful. I mean, orchids grow wild!! The water is so blue and clear and the sun never stops shining. Boring, right?? Living there never crossed my mind because it’s way, way too expensive. The natives have to be subsidized in order to afford housing and food.

Jennifer wouldn’t have any problems affording it but I doubt she would be interested in living so far away from Hollywood. Just doesn’t seem like her.

  37. voiceover says:

@Josephina–I don’t relate to her in any way possible. I don’t always enjoy her films/performances. We have nothing in common. I want to see her in better movies, yes, but I don’t understand the need to really dislike her simply because she doesn’t have a vile background. She seems nice, down to earth and completely harmless. I really LOVE how, on this board, some of you are insistent that a woman who loves the outdoors and loves to tan is the epitome of horrible. As if all of you hate the beach, hate swimming, and have never tanned. Oh the horror.

  38. andrea says:

better question? who gives a damn???

  39. GrnMtGirl says:

@ Beth: My daughter has been to Maui once and is moving there in November…

  40. lrm says:

For the naysayers, JA has her hair pulled back in not one, but TWO, photos here!!!! whoa! See? She doesn’t *always* look the same. (:
[Hint of sarcasm]. Anyway, she looks fine-but yea, could stand to mix it up once in awhile…at least once a decade.

  41. lrm says:

    re: Miranda Ann;
I currently live in san diego, and also have travelled t mexico. Like I said, it changes regularly, but last I had heard, there were strict limits on foreigners owning land in certain areas of mexico.
The same, btw, is true for argentina-mendoza wine country and patagonia regions, there is a limit to what can be owned, and i’ts very difficult to purchase real estate there for foreigners.
Same in Mexico and many other countries-they often limit the tourist zones, which makes sense as they would like it to remain in citizen’s hands, in the majority.
And, many will buy for 100 yrs of ownership or lease, b/c they know they can sell it and most likely for a profit, between now and then.

In any case, owning real estate in another country is not always of interest to people, so that was my point: JA may not want to buy in mexico, and/or ownwership may be restricted.

I guess a quick google search could answer this-with my first post,i didn’t bother to look it up,hence my qualification of ‘it changes regularly’.

    someone should really do that.

  42. lrm says:

here’s the link-too long to post-through a loophole, it can be owned, but the special provisions are required, going thru a mexican bank which will then own the land on behalf o the foreigner..IF the land is w/in 50 miles of the border or 100 miles of the coast…i’m paraphrasing, too long to post.

  43. Cruisin Through says:

Good god, who wouldn’t live or have property in Hawaii if they could? Even if you don’t like her, to criticize her for something like that says more about you than her. She’s rich. She can. So what?

She likes to sunbathe and some of you like to make jealous hag, bitchy comments, probably stemming from lack of sex. Everyone has their favorite past times.

  44. Majosha says:

Josephina: The idea that you expect “more” out of your celebrities is laughable. These are people who DON’T CARE ABOUT YOU, your life, your children, and your fate. They spend countless time and money indulging in luxuries the rest of us could never imagine.

You know who I expect a lot from? My family, my friends, world leaders, etc. Not some pampered Hollywood movie stars like Aniston or your beloved Brangelina, who wouldn’t know real hardship if it bit them in the ass. All I “expect” from entertainers is that they entertain me. Some do, some don’t. But to talk about these shallow idiots as though they’re potential saints is a ludicrous.

  45. Josephina says:

    Voiceover-

I have liked ALL of her movies, unlike you. I just do not see her as an actress who is passionate about her work. She has been in enough movies to make a mark… and she hasn’t. She is still best known for Rachel. She owned that role.

“As if all of you hate the beach, hate swimming, and have never tanned. Oh the horror. ” Very good! I do not hate the beach, and “sunbathing” seems like a huge waste of time. As a woman of color, I am more interested in other activities.

  46. DD says:

@Josephina – and I suppose you are too dignified and worldly, as opposed to us posters here… you don`t waste your time on earthly desires like reading pointless posts about Jen A. You seem to take yourself too seriously, it`s funny. But I don`t buy you`re beyond the shallow, especially since you`re here continuously insulting her character instead of doing what it is that makes you the important person you must be.

  47. anon says:

I think she is quite shallow and vapid *for her age*. Paris Hilton and Biel are in their mid-to-late 20’s, Aniston is 41, right? There is a difference. Compare her life to other actresses her age, like her bestie Courtney Cox, Gwenyth or even Nicole Kidman. And it’s NOT about the lack of kids, it’s about how she doesn’t seem to have grown up or matured at all. AJ was 26 when she adopted Maddox, Heigl was 30 when she adopted her special needs child, Blanchett and Winslet submit oscar-worthy performances year after year. I’m not saying that’s how everyone should leave their lives, adopting willy-nilly, but it does say something about them. I can see Aniston in 5 years with the same haircut, slightly worse bod and face, dating the same immature man-children and sunbaking her skin into leather in Mexico. Sorry, but I don’t respect her at all.

  48. anon says:

    *live

  49. Nessie says:

What’s there to not respect? She is who she is and doesn’t try to be anything else. I’d prefer her with her “shallowness” over a lot of other celebrities, who use charitable causes for their own ego boost or publicity.

  50. Anon says:

Celebs that get publicity from giving their time and money are just fine by me. Or are referring to Angelina and Brad? Well, they walk the talk, now how many cannot say they are not made more aware of a country, the people’s plight or a cause because the Jolie-Pitts’ or someone like them brought it to the forefront by the media. The media sure doesn’t mind using them to sell their copies with their bold face lies for their flailing businesses. Like In Touch, OK! and such.
Wished we see big Corporations/CEOs step right on up…with their help, instead of taking what they can get.. Tony Hayward, David J. Lesar, Hugh Grant (CEO– not the actor, Monsanto).

  51. ogechi says:

@Miranda Ann: I seriously think you are battling with anger and envy against someone you have not met before and who doesn’t even know you are existing. Grow above these limits swthrt, and use this forum to make yourself happy [which is why we are here].

  52. Katherine says:

I agree w/Josephina. I don’t get how some posters (voiceover) can say the scariest things about Jolie (she drinks blood, is into voodoo, orgies, has slept w/everyone) BUT then become enraged when someone calls Aniston shallow? Unbelieveable. I don’t care for Aniston or Jolie. Both are shallow fame addicts like many celebs. What I don’t get is treating one of them with kid skin gloves, and at the same time, making it open season on the other. The hypocrisy is stunning.

In any case, I still like Brad A LOT.
I saw him once in LA and he was well, TOO COOL for words. Just a nice guy–signing autographs and posing with the (scary) fans who were screaming Brad!Brad! Brad! at him. One girl was trying to jump on top of him. How he can take that on a daily basis is amazing! Just a cool guy–he didn’t seem to have any pretensions about him whatsoever.

  53. Harper says:

I wonder where she will be in 5 years or if we will even care.

  54. Joe says:

    Jennifer Aniston is perfection!

  55. Cheryl says:

We cared enough about the travails of Rachel that we made it possible for Jennifer Anniston to buy a condo on Mars. Now we are complaining that she is able to do so. I agree that she seems to not have to much else to do except tan, jog, eat at restaurants. Unlike myself who enjoys a rich, authentic life of commenting online about her lame, shallow pastimes.Time to start expecting less from our celebrities and more from ourselves.

  56. Larissa says:

@Anon: How rude! I mean, do you judge a person´s level of maturity by adoptions and oscars? Sorry, I misused my words, that was just plain stupid!!!!

First of all, JA is a mid-range actress, she was never in acting to go for an Oscar, like so many other thousands of actors out there. Then romantic comedies wouldn´t exist and how terrible would that be!

And do you know this person on a personal level to know exactly what she does with her life and to others? Oh, she is not a big PR woman, so you could never effing know!!!!!!

Truth is, is just pathetic for you to sit there wining about how JA is not a honorable actress/human being because she is 41 and didn´t won an Oscar and SAVED the world, while the world has OBVIUSLY much important issues that have nth to do with JA actions towards her OWN life! Talk about VAPID!!!!!!!

  57. crab says:

@ anon, well my husband and I take two vacations a year and one is in Mexico the other in Cape Cod Mass. We don’t have any kids, we both work and other than the fact that celebrities make way more money than we do, there isn’t much difference! So I guess you have no respect for me either! My point is you don’t even know me just like you don’t know Jennifer Aniston so how can you say you have no respect for her when she does what everyone else does only at a higher degree because she has more money!

  58. voiceover says:

@Katherine: What planet are you living on? I think you’re confusing me with a certain magazine article…I’m sorry honey. I didn’t write that article, nor have I said that Jolie is into orgies. However, it is common knowledge that she’s drank blood. I doubt she does it now, but she certainly did it ten years ago…But I do have to agree with you in saying that most celebs are fame whores. I think Jen Aniston wants fame as much as any other celeb. I don’t worship her while hating Jolie. I think all of them are royally f’ed up.

  59. Katherine says:

@voicewhatever. What planet am I on? You’re the one saying that Jolie is a known blood drinker! 10yrs ago she made some crazy statement about wanting to drink her husband’s blood “if” there was some safe way to do it. Obviously she’s an attention freak. Doesn’t mean she does it, or she’s into voodoo, orgies or has slept with everyone you know. At least Jolie got paid to be crazy; I have no idea what you’re getting out of it.

  60. Camille says:

Ugg fug! Must say that Iggy is looking less wrinkly here though. 😉

  61. Josephina says:

The fans are the ones that make it possible for stars to get paid what they do get paid — because we watch their movies, damnit. Since I paid for the movies, I can more than justify if I want more out of the actors what I see.

Don’t talk to me about actors that I do not support because I do not watch their movies. Aniston, among others, is one actress that I wish would give more than what she does in her roles.

Here is an antoher example. I voted; therefore I can say what I would like out of my politicians. Got it now?
