Sarah Jessica Parker claims she “eats everything”

I have to admit, I get really sick of all the svelte actresses that say they eat whatever they want. Oh, and don’t exercise. And don’t have an eating disorder. Look, I’m envious of your genes, but no matter how great they are, they’ll only get you so far. I really doubt there are many women in their early forties that can eat a few different meats for dinner and still be a size two. I realize the reason celebrities probably say this is so they don’t get criticized for unhealthy choices. And to be realistic, it’s not fair to expect them to be rail thin and eat normally. It’s sort of an either or situation. While Sarah Jessica Parker has always struck me as a reasonably down-to-earth woman (Sex and the City costar drama aside), she’s jumped on the “I eat it all” bandwagon and even ticks off her last few meals to People magazine.

“I eat everything,” the actress, 43, told PEOPLE Monday night at a special screening of her new film, Smart People, co-hosted by Allure magazine’s Linda Wells and The Cinema Society. “I’m just an eater. If it’s free, I honestly eat everything.”

As if to prove a point, the Sex and the City star rattled off a list of all the food she’d consumed in the past 48 hours: “Last night I had steak and some lamb shank. And I had some roasted chicken and some cassoulet and some profiteroles and some ice cream and some cheesecake.”

And that’s not all. On Monday, “I had two different tarts from Once Upon a Tart [in SoHo] and toast and a banana and a cup of coffee and a bagel with cream cheese,” she said. Oh, yeah: “And a glass of fresh orange juice.”

[From People]

Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus seems to have a more honest response when asked about what she eats to keep up a good figure. She says she’s relied on egg whites on the days of big events. It’s certainly not the smartest way to eat, but at least she’s honest about it.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus says actresses who claim to eat whatever they want are full of it. The “Seinfeld” star tells Harper’s Bazaar that she only ate scrambled egg whites on the day of the last Emmy awards because she wanted to look thin. “I don’t know why people thought that was so funny. I guess some people like to pretend they can eat like [bleep] and look great in their dress,” she said. Louis-Dreyfus also tried having small meals delivered to her home, but that only lasted a day. “I tried one of those things . . . I felt like it was a prison sentence, eating that crap.”

[From the New York Post]

I guess there’s a slight chance that Hollywood is overrun with women with some lucky freak gene that lets them consume all the donuts they want while not gaining an ounce. Most celebs already seem to be genetically blessed in other areas, maybe this is just one more way in which they’re superior to the rest of us. Or maybe it’s all a load of crap and Sarah Jessica Parker lives off egg whites and lettuce like I really suspect.

Of course she lives on water, tea and lettuce! How else could she have those veiny-madonna-like arms, they don´t come without exercise, same thing for those full of muscles legs. Geez! I want to like her, but she´s so full of it.

  2. Breederina says:

I don’t think she’s lying, I believe her when she says “SOME” as in a bite of steak, a forkful of lamb etc.
She is full of it if she’s trying to give the impression she eats these things as full meals regularly. She doesn’t.
I was a 4000 calories a day never gain an ounce
eat anything and everything size 2 girl until one day I wasn’t anymore. Now I gotta work at it just like every other woman of a certain age with a slim figure. It was nice while it lasted but it doesn’t last forever.

  3. anni says:

there are people with an amazing metabolism, but i am always stunned how many celebs are amongst those.

  4. m.a. says:

Notice how she says she ate “some” of those things. “Some” could mean one bite. So maybe she DID eat SOME of all of those things. Also, what she said she had on monday, well, that may have been ALL she ate ALL day.

I guess it’s hard to be a female celeb when it comes to eating and weight. If they say they don’t eat, they get bashed for starving themselves. If they say they DO eat, people like me say “Oh no you DON’T!” 🙂

Personally, I just wish they’d be honest(like Julia L-D). When super-skinny celebs lie about being able to eat anything and stay a size 0, it makes us regular women look bad, because we actually DO eat regular food and most of us aren’t able to have sarah’s figure without starving for it. *sigh*

    She went on to say:

“and then I went home and THREW UP up some steak and some lamb shank. And I threw up some roasted chicken and some cassoulet and some profiteroles and threw up some ice cream and some cheesecake.”

And that’s not all. On Monday, “I threw up two different tarts from Once Upon a Tart [in SoHo] and threw up toast and threw up a banana and threw up a cup of coffee and threw up a bagel with cream cheese,” she said. Oh, yeah: “And I threw up a glass of fresh orange juice.”

  6. m.a. says:

P.s. It sounds like from my post that I’d like to have sarah’s figure, but that’s not really true. Sarah is too skinny, for my taste. But I WOULD like to be closer to HER size than MINE. 🙂

  7. m.a. says:

Oh crap, sorry Breederina, I guess I copied some of what you said, but not on purpose. Maybe I should read ALL other comments before putting my .02 in! Oops! 😉

  8. saffronrose says:

I’m so, so, so sorry to say this, but I can tell you that she’s telling the truth. I’ve waited on SJP several times and seen her totally throw down- gnocchi, risotto, meat, dessert, she eats a lot- and I was also on the set of SATC and watched her chow on the greasy, gross craft service dinner, so it doesn’t seem to be a special occasion thing. However, she apparently does yoga with a private trainer during every other waking minute of her day. I think she has a very small frame, and tones it with exercise, and is naturally very slim. Her claims not to have had any work done on her face, however, I can tell you are false. Several times over.

  9. Syko says:

I can believe her. Some people – damn them – are just like that. Personally I have a birth defect, I was born with no metabolism. But my younger daughter is like her, she can out-eat me when she remembers to sit down and actually eat a meal. She just forgets to eat, and at 5’7″ she’s 105 lb. Naturally.

  10. Anee says:

I believe her, too. I can eat anything I want and maintain my size 6 (huge by hollywood standards, I know) if I dont’ eat too much. Anyone could do it, it’s calories consumed nothing more or less. What bothers me is she coming off as someone who can eat big steak dinners with tarts and bagels with cream cheese an inch thick. I also think she’s had at least one, probably two, nose jobs.

  11. Cindy Kennedy says:

SJP must think everyone cares about what she eats or doesn’t eat.

  12. Jaclyn says:

I am the same way. Not trying to make anyone jealous, but I am defending SJP here. I eat pretty much anything I want, and I don’t gain weight. But this is because I have a very fast metabolism…maybe she does too? Plus, I know she exercises A LOT! I mean, have you seen her abs?

Another thing, have to say this, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is gorgeous! I’ve always liked her character Elaine, and now her new character in “The New Adventures of Old Christine” is amazing too! 😀

  13. Claire says:

Thin people might eat a lot at one sitting but they still eat differently than fat people. She might not eat again for hours. At the next meal she might just nibble something. The next day she might eat lightly because of the day before. They just do things differently.

  14. Anonymous says:

she says she eats, but she didn’t say that she just ate everything and not workout. so it’s possible that she eats and exercise.

  15. Bellatrix says:

SJP definitely looks like an eater too me. She was a ballet dancer and she has kept her ballet body.
I believe she works out quite a lot and dances on daily basis.

That’s what happens in my family too : my aunt was a dancer and still has ballet classes every day from Monday to Friday.
She eats some of everything, just in small proportions. She can’t resist cake and biscuits…

I don’t have the exact same metabolism, though. Alas!
I take a bit of everything, eat healthy cuisine but I do avoid junk food as much as I can.

  16. geronimo says:

It probably is bullshit in this case – SJP’s look is totally exercise generated, you can see that by looking at her. What’s annoying is when they fail to mention the other things they undergo – the hours spent in the gym and/or with personal trainers, the cosmetic procedures – to keep their weight and appearance in check.

Having said that, I eat everything, and I mean everything, but just not every day or in huge quantities and I also exercise regularly. But I do also come from a long line of tall, naturally slim women and have always registered under my supposedly healthy bmi. It’s lucky genes and metabolism at the end of the day.

  17. Granger says:

It amazes me that people think you can’t be thin and still eat “normally.” But that’s because the American idea of normal eating is so screwed up. Normal to many folks means coffee for breakfast, a Big Mac, super-size fries and super-size Coke for lunch, a 16-oz steak and huge pile of mashed potatoes for supper, and a large bag of chips and gigantic bowl of ice cream at 9 p.m. But of course, the people who eat like this are MORBIDLY OBESE — meaning, they’re killing themselves with food. So then they hear someone like SJP say, “I eat anything I want,” and think, “There’s no way! I eat anything I want, so how come I’m not thin???” Well, d’uh. When SJP says that, she means IN MODERATION — meaning, if she has a cheeseburger and fries for lunch, she eats a salad and fish for supper. Or maybe she’s PMS-ing one week and eats a lot of chocolate and ice cream. So the next week, she eats nothing but vegetables and grilled chicken breast. Oh yes, and she also EXERCISES. And when you exercise regularly — even for just one hour four times a week — guess what? You can actually reward yourself with something “naughty” every once in a while! No, you can’t eat an entire tub of ice cream in one sitting, but you can certainly have a small bowl.

Don’t get me wrong — I’m not naive enough to believe that there aren’t female celebs out there who starve themselves and exercise obsessively. But I believe SJP — a lifelong dancer who obviously takes care of her body — when she says she eats “everything,” because there’s no doubt that by “everything,” she means a small piece of steak as opposed to an entire side of beef. It’s common sense, people. Pure and total common sense.

  18. geronimo says:

Granger – excellent post. 100% agree.
The ‘bullshit’ bit in my comment was to do with the idea that it’s possible to eat everything and stay slim WITHOUT clarifying that it’s how often you eat ‘everything’ and the size of the portions and the amount of exercise you take, that actually counts.

  19. Breederina says:

It should also be noted that SJP smokes. If you’re under 40 and can eat anything it doesn’t count. A great metabolism under 40-45 is lucky but not unusual, after that is when the real work begins.

  20. Kate says:

Actually, SJP has always been pretty upfront about her exercise–look how she responded to favorable comments that she’d lost her “baby weight” so quickly. She was very quick to point out that she (a) was pretty much required to because of her job, and (b) was able to make the most of advantages that most women don’t have (plenty of money for nannies and trainers). She was very clear that her situation is not typical, and that celebrities who get back into shape quickly after giving birth should not be held up as the norm.

Also, she probably does eat what she’s describing. Notice that she says, “if it’s free.” She’s not saying she eats that way constantly.

  21. Bellatrix says:

    I loved Granger’s post too.

I often read on these celebrity gossip sites so many questions regarding if celebrities eat “normally”.
But indeed, what is the american norm they refer to?

I’m French and I must say that I feel I eat normally but my breakfast is a little cup of black ristretto coffee, a O% fat yoghurt with a spoon of oat bran and a piece of fruit I take with me for on the subway.

I tend to eat several small meals per day (but it’s a natural thing I do, not something a doctor or coach prescribed)…

And I must say that I see many healthy and rather thin (not skinny) women around me.
Society and cultural food and exercise habits also play a great part in how you manage and use your body (I don’t even have a car or a TV and never did, actually).

  22. Qwan says:

i would like to know what’s the ideal figure that men prefer on ladies/women?weight?height?

  23. Christina X says:

    Owan: try impossible.

I can eat three meals a day and gain weight.

  24. Qwan says:

    same here…thats why i gained 54kg on 158cm height..people,this consider obese???

  25. TrixiHail says:

Sarah Jessica Parker is the one celebrity who has almost exactly the same body shape as me. I am 162cm and weigh 50kg, I am possibly slightly heavier than her but purely coz i go right ahead and eat fastfood when i’m in a rush. It’s true, you can it whatever you want, and you dont have to purge or anything but its about moderation. If i feel like a chocolate, I eat one, but i just don’t go eating them everyday. Metabolism does have heaps to do with it, but at the same time it’s totally off to say you’re jealous of her ‘eating what she wants’ when that is merely a balanced diet and a bit of exercise. no one has to be excessive to look great, for initial weight loss yeh, but not for figure maintenance.

  26. clara says:

Hey, the comments I have read here, some are so bitchy and judgemental, Sarah Jessica is leading a very decent life, and we all awe our stars, but do we have to smash them when they have not hurt us…what is this, she is a lovely girl living her life, doing the job she chose…what’s the problem?

  27. Emmy says:

Sarah Jessica Parker was a professional ballerina. Of course she is full of muscles. I know a 55 year old woman who looks like that and was dancing for the national ballet team. Don’t be mean, try to imrove your body and looks
