Last year, Forbes named someone new to their top spot on the annual “Celebrity 100”. The Celebrity 100 is Forbes Magazine’s annual index of power, media, money and “it” factor in Hollywood/entertainment. Oprah is usually the shoo-in for the top spot, and had won it in previous years. Last year, however, the number one position went to Angelina Jolie, fresh from a year in which she had an international hit action film (Wanted), an Oscar-nominated lead role (Changeling), and dominated the media with her pregnancy and birth of twins Knox and Vivienne. However, in this past year (summer ‘09 to summer ‘10), Angelina hasn’t had much going on – no films, no babies, no drama, really. So Oprah regained her top position on this year’s list:

Oprah is back on top.

A year after slipping to No. 2 on Forbes’ annual Celebrity 100 list, the media queen regained her crown as 2010’s most powerful star worth an estimated $315 million.

Last year’s title holder, Angelina Jolie, fell 17 spots while Beyoncé climbed to No. 2 with $87 million in earnings (husband Jay-Z landed the No. 15 spot).

The list – determined by a celebrity’s earnings and fame – placed Avatar director James Cameron, who pocketed $210 million, at the No. 3 ranking. Lady Gaga and Tiger Woods rounded out the top five.

It was also a good year for Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift, who jumped up to No. 12 from 69, and Twilight stars Robert Pattinson (No. 50) and Kristen Stewart (No. 66). The popular franchise also helped author Stephenie Meyer earn a No. 59 ranking.

The top ten of the Celebrity 100: Oprah, Beyonce, James Cameron, Lady Gaga, Tiger Woods, Britney Spears, U2, Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp and Madonna. Go here for the list, and here for Forbes slideshow of the Celebrity 100. Can I just ask something? Britney? I mean, bless her heart and everything, but she cracked the top ten? Really? And Tiger Woods? Sure, he makes a lot of money, but he should be kicked off the top ten for being a douche (and losing half of his advertising contracts). But Gaga cracked the top ten! Good for her. The rest I get – Beyonce deserves to be there, as does Madge and Depp and Bullock. Oh, and James Cameron. Haha, lost another prize James!

Well Britney deserves it. She had a successful album and a huge world tour last year.

I know that people prefer to focus on her looks or on her personnal life.

It’s a shame that everyone forgets how sucessful she is. Just look at how many albums she has sold or how many people saw her during her tour.

Forget about her and just look at the numbers.

    It’s pretty impressive!!!

  2. Kaboom says:

She won by default in the category “celebrity you’d be most afraid of to sit on you by accident”.

  3. Ogechi says:

yep yep yep!!! Am glad for them all.

  4. lucy2 says:

I think Britney being in the top 10 shows how flawed their evaluation system, based on media coverage and money, is.

  5. cee says:

Does anyone think Oprah will ever interview Angelina? I would take a day off for that interview.

  6. lisa says:

the title makes me laugh.. Puts thing on an equal footing when toping one person is the main focus.

Forbes has lost it Cache. Too many of these list. Most of the people didnt’ have any projects on the calendar in 2009. So good for O to go out on top. I for one lost interest in her along time ago.

  7. Luci says:

as I may not agree 100% with forbes, and would wish some of the aforementioned not to be there I am happy that 6/10 of the most powerful are women 🙂
(ok, i know it doesnt mean anything, whatever)

btw, wheres bombshell mcgee??! cant believe SHE didnt make it to the top 10! XD

    “Forbes has lost it Cache”

Yeah. Too many celebrities and not enough business people. Forbes was originally about business, not fame and celebrities. Now Fortune 500 is going the same way.

  9. Kim says:

Oprah interviewed AJ in 2004 regarding the refugees in the Congo. I subscribe to Forbes and they do these celeb list at most twice a year.

  10. Just a Poster says:

I just heard some rumbling in the air..
Thunder? or Oprah’s ever expanding ego taking up more room in the universe?

  11. jane16 says:

I think these top 100 lists have jumped the shark. Does anyone really look at them anymore. Or care? I don’t.

@cee, I doubt it, she is Team She-Who-Mustn’t-Be-Named these days.
