Lily Allen has the best Karl Lagerfeld story

lil3

Lily Allen has spent her retirement from the music business doing endless press and interviews about how she’s retired. Here she is again, with the same mouth-breathing expressions on the cover of the August issue of Elle UK (for the second time in less than a year). HuffPo has some excerpts from the story, and most of it is the same old boring-as-hell Lily Allen bullsh-t about body image and babies. But she does have a great story about The Kaiser, Karl Lagerfeld. She met him when she was hammered:

Lily Allen covers the August issue of Elle UK, and in the interview she talks about her weight fluctuations, plans to start a family and her first drunken meeting with Karl Lagerfeld. She has previously claimed to have body dysmorphic disorder and threatened to get gastric bypass surgery. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

On her weight:
‘When I was on tour earlier in the year, I’d be on stage for one-and-a-half hours a night, so since the tour finished in March, I’ve put on about half a stone. But I do Pilates three times a week. I am still body conscious, but I’m not so concerned with it; I don’t care as much.’

On babies:
‘I don’t think I’m that young to have a baby. My mother had me when she was 23. It’s difficult as a woman who wants a family. Kids take up your whole life, particularly in the first two or three years. So it wouldn’t be very responsible of me to commit to doing a world tour if I had a baby.’

On meeting Karl Lagerfeld and landing the Chanel campaign:
‘It was at a big party in Coco’s apartments in Paris. I was drunk and got lost in the building. I wandered into an attic room and Karl was there. I got really embarrassed and apologized, but he said, “No, come in.” We had a chat – although I can’t remember what about, I was so drunk. I do remember asking him about some shoes he’d designed that had a green ring in the heel [from the Chanel a/w 2009 collection]. I asked how they worked. He drew a diagram explaining the physics of making the shoe. I’ve still got the drawing. A week later I was asked to do the campaign.’

[From Huffington Post]

In other Lily-Allen-really-just-needs-to-retire news, she’s also been identified as the songwriter for the new and completely unnecessary Bridget Jones musical. That’s right. First it was a book, then it was one solid film and one horrible sequel, and not they’re making it into a musical. They want to do it in London first, next year. Guess we’re going to survive even more Lily Allen interviews through her retirement!

  2. denise says:

I’m shocked that Karl was actually friendly.

  3. Mistral says:

    Cute story.

Karl up in the attic like a mad scientist (fashionist?), discussing the physics of shoes, teehee.

  4. irishserra says:

I’m sorry…I just got totally distracted with the “John Secada is Roided Up” story…I had totally forgotten about him. Wow!

  5. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I like her better than Katy Perry. At least Lily has talent. Her last album was brilliant.

  6. Solveig says:

Those pictures are amazing: make her look like Bjork.

  7. Riley says:

I never thought of LA as looking anything like Phoebe Cates but she kinda does in these pictures — and that’s a complement.

  8. gabs says:

Thats a boring story. I like when Karl is a jerk to people. Lily Allen is soo annoying. just retire shut up and bridget jones musical is gonna suck

  9. TQB says:

What? Sorry, distracted by my love for the lilac dress.

  10. GatsbyGal says:

She found him in an attic room? I’m picturing some dark, damp, cobwebby attic filled with dusty chests and antique dress forms. One lone, high window lets in just enough moonlight to allow Lily to make out the aged, regal form of Karl Lagerfeld as he sits silently, motionless, upon a heavy wooden rocking chair. Beside him, a damaged, rusted sewing machine from decades past still clings to a tattered half-finished gown.

“Oh,” Lily manages to say lamely through her intoxication. “So sorry to bother you, I should go.”

“No,” says Karl. He lifts one sinewy, velvet-adorned arm and crooks a skeletal finger in her direction. “Come in.”

  11. Larissa says:

I don´t get why so many ppl hate on her.
I´ve met her in person and she is quite grounded/witty/easy going considering her priviledged upbringing !!!! She will mingle with any crowd! She is just a bit opinionated and drinks a bit too much on occasion, but who doesn´t eh? lol

  12. anjasmomma says:

Lots of people dislike Lily Allen but I really love her.

  13. Wench. says:

She expressly came out of retirement after she won some Ivor Novello awards this year.

  14. mollination says:

Wasn’t she “discovered” like three years ago after uploading that horrible smile song to her myspace? How does one even retire from that? Just, stop uploading songs…I guess, and no one will notice you’re even missing.

  15. Corina says:

@Gatsby Gal, that scenario made my day!

  16. Novaraen says:

These photos are great…and that lilac dress is stunning!!

  17. original kate says:

karl was in the attic? i’ll bet they keep him up there like boo radley.

  18. DiMi says:

She looks terrific. I love that dress. She looks like Joan Jett on the cover!

  19. d says:

Aw, I like her! Her music is great, she seems really funny and smart, someone I’d want to be friends with. I can just imagine going out, having fun, bitching about people, talking about everything under the sun, etc. Someone who’s just a breath of fresh air.

  20. Zelda says:

How can people dislike Lily Allen, and love Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson?

Lily Allen is super talented, and doesn’t sound like a synthesized cat. I hope she makes more albums.
Okay, she’s mouthy, and can be a bit self-centered, but I think she’s like a lot of girls her age. She just has access to the press. Her overall message is intelligent and positive.
Give me an intelligent bitch over a vacuous cookie cutter “sweetie” any day.

  21. snowball says:

    Oooh, pretty dress.

I liked that video of her running around that funky castle thingy. I have no idea if it was a good song or not, but the dress was cool and I liked the colorful house.

    I’m so shallow.

  22. asiont says:

she looks really great! plus, her last album was wonderful

  23. Mingo says:

Re; Bridget Jones Aren’t ALL musicals unnecessary.

  24. Ben says:

Yes Mollination she used the internet to get discovered and took it into her own hands, welcome to the 21st century.
Since being discovered (without the condescending quotation marks) she’s sold over 4 million albums.

I don’t get why you felt the need to be so catty towards her, she makes pretty good pop music, much better than the shit many of her contemporaries are making, and she’s actually a very talented songwriter (she writes her own songs).

Maybe if you actually listened to her music instead of making stupid assumptions.

  25. I Choose Me says:

Quite the imagery GatsbyGal. *loves it*

  26. texasmom says:

GatsbyGal, you’ve clearly watched too many Fritz Lang movies!

  27. GatsbyGal says:

    Haha, thanks y’all. <3 I’m just a wannabe novelist with a too-big imagination.

  28. Angel says:

Hahah. I’m with Gatsby; this is definitely exactly how it went. Love it.

  29. MooHoo says:

Love the pics and love her music and voice.

  30. Deanne says:

I like her! I don’t get the hate.

  31. Roma says:

I love a drunk, mouthy girl who takes off her top when she’s on yachts.

  32. Karen says:

@snowball – That video you described is for a song called “The Fear” from her last album. That song and her interview on a Canadian talk show called “The Hour” to promote the album made me pour out my haterade and fall in love with Lily. Then I saw her live in Toronto and I’ll defend her until the end of my days. Unless she becomes a serial killer or something…but that’s highly unlikely…unless she gets crazy drunk or high one night.

Sigh…let’s just hope this retirement and starting a family thing works out for her. Otherwise an unhinged Lily won’t be such a good thing!

  33. EMV says:

i really like her music…she seems somewhat normal to me….minus the campaigns and press

  34. Gwen says:

I love Lily. She’s very talented and she has a sense of humour. I hope she make many more albums.

  35. lolo says:

    F-ck me, I love her!

  36. Wiley says:

She’s beautiful, talented, and classy. That pretty much disqualifies her from pop music business in the US. All the good music is in Europe now.

  37. BECKSON says:

To Wiley: Oh, so I suppose your definition of “classy” includes falling around drunk and being vulgar? I love Lily Allen but I won’t be the first to call her “classy.”
