Miss USA contestant says the person she’d most like to help is Britney Spears

I watched most of the Miss USA Pageant and it looked like it went off without a hitch. Donnie and Marie Osmond hosted, and the show was modern and entertaining enough to add some moderate interest to the outdated beauty pageant fare. Controversial divorcee Heather Mills, fierce Project Runway winner Christian Siriano, and celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves were among the judges. They tried to keep it fresh with backstage footage and off the cuff chats with the judges and contestants, and the music and competition segments were good, but there’s only so much you can do to make a beauty pageant entertaining. There weren’t any technical issues or big slip ups by the contestants.

Judge Christian Siriano added some of his trademark flair to the show. During the unprepared question and answer period, a judge was drawn from a hat to ask each of the top 5 contestants a question. Siriano asked Miss Oklahoma which famous person she’d most like to help to better themselves and she predictably answered “Britney Spears.” Siriano smiled wide, and you know that’s the answer he had in mind as he’s said publicly that he wants to help Britney too. This was one of the less articulate answers by a contestant, which makes it more fun to watch:

“As of right now, I’d like to pick Britney Spears. Because I’d really like to help her with her self confidence and help her believe in herself, and get over whatever she’s going through right now so she can strive on going to the next deal.”

The winner was Miss Texas Crystle Stewart, a 26 year-old African American college graduate and entrepreneur who runs a party planning and motivational speaking company. Her answer during the judges questions was the most well spoken:

Question from Judge #9, San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman: “In some countries when you turn 18 you’re required to spend a year in the military. Do you think that should be enforced in our country?”

Miss Texas, Crystle Stewart: “I don’t think it should be enforced. I think you’re talking about the draft in our country. I think it should be a choice. We have people there in Iraq right now fighting for our country and it was their choice and I really appreciate that. It should be a choice.”

Here are clips from the show. There wasn’t a talent competition unfortunately. Only Miss America includes the talent competition.

And in the brief instance where Heather Mills had a chat with host Donnie Osmond, she managed to remain calm and surprisingly soft spoken:

I would never even have known this was on if I weren’t reading CB ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks, this was fun to watch!

About the Britney question though: you know you’ve hit rock bottom when a ditzy dumb blonde (I’m sorry, she sounded so daft) at a pageant wants to help you get better.

Other than that, I’m glad about the winning lady, she seems to be quite cool.

  2. Anna says:

ps: HOWEVER why were they wearing furs at the swimsuit competition?? I think that sends the wrong message. I hope these were faux!!!! But altogether I think they should have ditched that bad idea.

  3. celebitchy says:

The furs for the swimsuit competition were faux and they said so during the broadcast. I should have mentioned that. I think they had some kind of deal with the faux fur designer as they name dropped whomever it was.

  4. Anna says:

cool, thanks for the info CB!

  5. Ur A Loser says:

Yeah lets help Britney. I mean its not like there are starving children across the world, people in north korea trying to escape the consentration camps, women being physically abused, etc, etc.

That being said Barbie is beautiful I just wish she would have said something realistic but I guess she was just being honest. & even if she had said the ones I mentioned Its not like she was actually gonna help them so… I guess I just shot myself in the foot!

  6. Ur A Loser says:

Sorry I forgot to mention that the question was stupid. Why does it have to be a celebrity?

  7. Sasha says:

The term I’m thinking of that applies to this little blond worm rhymes with ” Stupid Stunt”. What a fine, typical example of the next generation in full blossom she is. I’m officially afraid for the future.

  8. Cindy Kennedy says:

All these other famous people – Dr. Phil, etc. should just shut up about Britney Spears. Its getting old.

  9. Mairead says:

Is the winner praying for better breast implants? I can’t seem to watch any of those clips at the moment, so I’ll take your words for it that the winner was deserved. Her grasp on the difference between a draft and military service is kinda shaky though. Mind you, the question wasn’t phrased particularly well either. The word “enforced” obviously threw her – which is fair enough in a stressful situation.

The Britney Spears answer failed, because the girl didn’t finish it properly – it should have ended ” and from there we can help bring about World Peace” OR “to help the children. Because I truly believe that they are are future” ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. I choose me says:

Pageants weird me out. Always have, though I can’t quite put my finger on the why. Good on Miss Texas though. She has an outie like me and for that completely superficial and inane reason, I’m glad she won. ๐Ÿ˜›

  11. dcp says:

Does anyone even get a steaming pile of poo about these stupid pagents? I mean come on! I guess it’s a woman thing, lol!

  12. Izzy says:

I can’t stand those shows. Vapid girls sans common sense that will be nothing more than trophy wives. That sounds a little bitter, but I actually have a beautiful SMART wife.

One thing I have an issue with in this blog is the use of African American. She is an American From Texas, not Africa. I think we create more separation between cultures when we use “politically correct” BS. Color (black, white, yellow, red, brown) doesn’t even need to be mentioned. When are whites going to insist on being called Anglo-Aryan-Saxon-Americans? It’s just ridiculous.

  13. Mairead says:

Or indeed Anglo-Aryan-Celtic-possible Milesian-Saxon-Nordic-Americans? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Kinda catchy, no?

  14. headache says:

Girl in header pic reminds me of when I was a kid and I used to squish Barbie’s forhead into her lips until her nose disappeared.

Izzy, agreed. I mean why isn’t Obama referred to as a African-Caucasian-American? I mean his daddy wasn’t any blacker than his mother was white, was he?

And shouldn’t they say he will/could be the first president of African decent?

Although, I do have to point out that Aryans are not white, they were an ancient culture preceding both the Vedic and Avestan cultures (from wiki) Basically, they were lighter skinned peoples who originated mesopotamia and settled in india.

Aryan as referring to whites came from some bad science that Hitler and his little buddies embraced.

  15. nonentity says:

Well, a lot of them didn’t quite have the choice to go to Iraq or to stay there, but I guess that’s a technicality. I do like the “really appreciate that” comment.

One of the generals shot down the draft from a practical standpoint (never mind the political uproar)–he claimed it takes so much training to learn to fight with today’s equipment that a high-turnover-drafted army wouldn’t be at all helpful.

  16. Imagine what it is like being in Britney’s situation where she isn’t even allowed to be on her own together with her kids. It will be good if she stops blaming her dad for it and works on showing everybody that she is an effective mother.

  17. A bodyguard suing Britney for millions of dollars because of sexual harrassment? I find it difficult to feel sorry for a bodyguard who claims he is being picked on.
