Dr. Phil in trouble for bailing out ringleader of teen beating case

drphiheaderl.jpg
If Dr. Phil didn’t have an image problem after revealing confidential details of Britney Spears’ medical condition, he sure has one now. Six teen girls lured a 16 year-old classmate to a house in Florida on March 30 and beat her, recording it all on video. They wanted to post the video on YouTube and MySpace, and had two teen males serve as lookout while they put their inexplicably cruel plan in action. The victim was beaten about the head and face and lost consciousness after her head was slammed against the wall repeatedly. She woke up and was beaten and yelled at by the gang of girls again. All but one of the 8 suspects was under 18, but they are all being charged as adults.

The suspects were charged with kidnapping, felony battery, and witness tampering, and their bail was set high, at over $30,000 each, to reflect the seriousness of the crime.

The judge issued a media gag order on Thursday to make sure that details of the case were not leaked to the press, potentially hurting the suspects’ chance at a fair trial. That didn’t stop the Dr. Phil show from trying to get an exclusive story about this sensational and terribly brutal crime. They sent one of their lackeys down to Florida to bail the ringleader, Mercades Nichols, out of jail in exchange for her story.

When Dr. Phil got called out for footing bail to the tune of $33,000 for Nichols, he issued a statement blaming an employee and saying the planned show had been canceled. He said “In this case, certain staff members went beyond our guidelines (re: the bail being paid)” But the “employee” that paid for bail was just a production assistant, he didn’t have that kind of money and it’s not like he could have come up with it without top-level approval at the Dr. Phil show.

People are saying the end is near for Dr. Phil and that this is the stunt that is going to bring his show down. It will hopefully result in an awful lot of jail time for those cruel teens too.

Here’s some coverage of this story on The Today Show, thanks to Redlasso:

I heard on CNN that the mom of one of the attackers said that she didn’t think her daughter had done anything wrong & that the victim got what she deserved for posting what she did on MySpace.

WTF is wrong with people these days? I hope those 6 girls & 2 guys spend a long long time in jail.

And Dr. Phil? Whatever, hes gonna go down in flames

  2. headache says:

Dr Phil has let fame go to his head. Apparently, boy needs to hear some straight talk of his own.

  3. daisy says:

Why would he bail out the beater instead of helping out the victim or helping her pay her medical bills?

    Yes he is a DoucheBag
    Why is bad behavior rewarded?

  4. wif says:

And then to LIE and say, oh, it wasn’t me…it was an employee (who he’ll probably fire to make his story look more plausible)!!!!!!! What an awful human being.

Bodhi, what had the victim posted on MySpace?

  5. Nisa says:

    Great point, Daisy.

  6. Bodhi says:

wif- The CNN show didn’t say. One of the anchors was speaking to the head cop in charge (HCIC?) & said that she had heard that one of the moms made that statement & the cop confirmed it, but didn’t say what the victim posted. He was also quick to point out that that particular attacked lived with her grandmother (not the idiot mom) & that the grandma was very shocked & upset by the girl’s behavior.

    End novella…

  7. Anna says:

Isn’t he employed by Oprah? I hope she fires his ass over this. It was pretty close that time with Britney, but she can’t let this one slide. I hope.

Phil is sleazy if you ask me.

And I hope those kids end up in jail, where they belong. No matter what that girl might have said (or not) on her myspace page, nothing justifies such actions. She used words (if the allegations are true) and they used fists and that is just 100% unacceptable. And shame on Dr Phil. Shame on him.

  8. AC says:

I couldn’t watch the clip that was released of the beating and it was supposedly the least graphic or upsetting of the entire tape. Something about it just… distrubs me to the core. to see her clutching her left ear and side of her head and continue to get screamed at and beaten… ug its awful. She will live with those injuries and the hearing loss and vision loss and the trauma for the rest of her life. I hope tht the ring leader and main beater gets a LOT of jail time for this. its SICK.

Dr. Phill is showing really bad judgement these days. Isn’t good judgement what he’s all about? What is wrong with him.

And good point about the medical bills for the other girl. Pay her medical bills to talk to her about her trauma, how to get past it. I mean if anyone needs psycological councel its the girl who got beaten up.

  9. Sasha says:

Point of order- he’s not a real doctor. Phil doesn’t hold a single fucking MD of any kind and has at least twice been in hot water for trying to claim otherwise.

I’m only weighing in here to say ditto to what everyone else has said, plus one other thing – I am an Oprah fan and subscribe to her magazine. Each month’s edition still features a Dr. Phil column in which he answers write-in questions with advice. Although at one point I did admire his forthrightness, he has completely used up that novelty and I’m disgusted over his lack of good judgement lately. Also I’m disgusted over the fact that he has no medical degree and is not licensed (apparently). Although I’m all for forgiveness, I don’t think “Dr.” Phil deserves to be in the position he’s in – it’s a shame that someone can rise to his position just because he “shoots from the hip”. How sad is it that honesty is so refreshing and so novel to our society that this potato head would wind up with his own show, advising people on the direction of their lives, just because he’s not afraid to call them like he sees them? Sorry, but that does not make you a doc.

  11. daisy says:

    he has no medical degree

    Hello

neither does Dr. laura and there they are giving advice

  12. cc says:

I think I heard something on one of the news shows that it had something to do with the ringleaders boyfriend. The victim wasn’t even the one that posted some the stuff on myspace. They just blamed her.

As for Dr. Phil….ding! That sound is your 15 minutes.

  13. xxx says:

I thought his career was done before then Oprah showed up for his anniversary so he survived that one.

He now truly is Dr. Shill. He doesn’t practice what he preaches or take account for his own actions.

Ps, he cheated on his first wife. He’s also a hypocrite when he sermons adulterers with his holier than thou sermons. I can hear the “What you were thinking, you’ve run your life off in a ditch”….

  14. piedlourde says:

So let me get this straight:
“Dr.” Phil was willing to give the attention-seeking criminals, who planned posting their video on MySpace and YouTube, another platform? On national television? Classic.

  15. xxx says:

Yes, glamorizing their ordeal by pulling them out of prison and rewarding bad behavior.

  16. Carrie says:

That man needs to have his show yanked off the air and then he needs to go far, far away.

Like Adnan Ghalib (Britney’s bitch), karma will get “Dr.” Phil too, hopefully.

  17. rlr260 says:

I think he was a doctor of psychology at one time, but he let his license lapse, or surrendered it. I don’t remember when. He’s such a jerk!

  18. Anonymous says:

I agree with you Daisy. The victim is the person who deserves the support at this time – medical bills, counseling, home schooling, etc…

They should have let the whole lot of these wanna be gangsta’s sit in jail. Let them meet the real gang bangers who will teach them what it is like to be a victim.

I saw the mother of one of the attackers, I think her last name was Garcia (different last name than her daughter) and she was in complete denial about her daughters involvement. Basically just stating she was there and had nothing to do with this attack. But she did not try to stop it either….. The mother was a box of rocks and no doubt the daughter is no different.

  20. wtf says:

He needs to be arrested for praticing without a licesense and he should remove the title “Dr.” from his show name. period.

And the girls should get jail time until they turn 21, then let them out.

    Just common sense….

  21. RAT says:

Seeing as how shit flows downhill and “Dr. Phil” is Oprah’s minion, doesn’t that make Oprah an even bigger piece of shit than “Dr. Phil”? Just a thought.

  22. Tania says:

Dr. Phil needs to shut his fat, bald-headed mouth and stay the fuck out of people’s business! He is just trying to get himself more publicity and he DID – ALL BAD! Idiot! As for these scumbag, wanna-be-a-thug little bitches (and the two moronic guys that were involved) who planned the gang beat down on their supposed “friend” – I hope the law throws the book at your redneck, low class delinquent asses! Who the hell do you all think you are, doing that kinda shit? Nothing that girl said or did will make me believe that she deserved what happened to her. What you girls did was horrible and unforgivable and I hope you all pay dearly for it. What, did you think you were gonna become You Tube stars or something? Fucking idiots! I hope ALL of you shit heads involved get your asses beat down REALLY good by some REAL thugs in lock-up AND when your dumb asses get brought home by the parents you publicly humiliated with your retarded stunt! I also hope the girl you beat up sues and gets tons of money! IF that was my daughter, all your punk asses would be dead – you can believe that! You wouldn’t be going to jail, you’d be six feet under. In a way, it’s great that you filmed your pathetic little stunt – THAT way, there’s irrefutable proof of your guilt! Classic! The girl you beat up will get over what you did to her, but you guys will be reminded of it EVERY day. I hope you’ll all enjoy prison time and being labeled as FELONS – You all have such bright futures ahead! Congratulations!

After Phil put his foot in it over the lies he told about Lupus and the many forms of disease (discoid, drug-induced, systemic lupus erythematosus, etc…) then lied about this being a disease that is “all in the supposed sufferer’s head, he went straight to the top of my shit list. I didn’t watch him before but after hearing this and watching the program for myself, he lost any credibility I would have or could have had for him in the future.

I have lupus (SLE) and Sjogren’s disease; both are autoimmune diseases and generally if you have one, you have the other as well. I have been symptomatic for many years but my doctors only diagnosed the conditions several years ago. I am in the moderate to severe stages now, which requires a considerable amount of medication to keep the symptoms as tolerable as possible, slow the progression of the disease as much as possible in hopes that a cure will be found in my lifetime, and to keep the pain levels within a tolerable level to allow me to be a good mother and caregiver not to mention attempting to hold down a freelance writing job when health allows. My hobbies are playing games with my girls when I feel healthy enough and creating pottery on a pottery wheel.

Phil needs to remove Dr. from his name because he is anything but a doctor, MD or no. He also cannot manage to do his research prior to making a show so he does not come off as an idiot.

BTW, contrary to Phil’s numbers, 1.5 to 2 million Americans suffer with lupus, many go undiagnosed yet are symptomatic. in addition, 90% are female although the disease infects males too – keeping them hostage in a body that refuses to do what the mind wants because of pain, severe fatigue, eating problems, infections, last-case scenario surgeries – medically necessary ones especially.

Phil has no idea how many lupus sufferers he turned into enemies after all the lies he told on his show about autoimmune diseases. Lupus is not “in your head.” It is a real disease that comes in different forms, attacks the body’s bad cells that cause infection while at the same time attacks and kills good cells too. Sunlight and fluorescent light exacerbates the condition often making the mylar butterfly rash even worse. Stress makes life even more difficult for lupus sufferers. Ignorance is the greatest problem going against lupus sufferers. People like Phil perpetuate the problem. It’s bad enough when one has a family member or more in denial. Nobody needs Phil’s kind of advice or therapy. He needs a therapist of his own and somebody (Oprah or whoever) needs to take his show away before he spews more lies.

Dr.Phil is a showman. Do not put your trust in anything he states on his program. I don’t know anyone who likes his show or him.
