First trailer for ‘The Town’: Ben Affleck & Jon Hamm look so awesome

Ben Affleck and Jon Hamm hard at work on the set of his new film, The Town, in Boston, Massachusetts on October 10, 2009. Fame Pictures, Inc

Below is the new trailer for The Town, which is Ben Affleck’s second time out as a director. Ben also stars, along with Jon “The Hamm” Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Hall, Blake Lively and Chris Cooper. I never saw Gone Baby Gone, so I didn’t really know what I was expecting from this film and from Affleck as a director. Can I just say something? I. Am. Blown. Away.

It has elements (from what I can see) of Point Break (truly underestimated film, in my opinion) and The Dark Knight. But it still looks like its own film, and Affleck looks like he had the vision to make a truly taut action film with a great dramatic core. In Boston, of course! The Hamm generally looks better in his Mad Men gear, what with the slicked back hair and the fabulous suits, but The Hamm is still giving me major fever in his FBI gear. The Hamm with a gun (plus his sexy voiceover) = my new sexual fantasy. Renner looks badass too, and Affleck actually looks like a totally solid lead, bringing together everyone’s performances. I’m totally hot for this film. It comes out in September.

Heading to lunch together, Blake Lively and Ben Affleck pal around on set right after shooting a sex scene together of their upcoming film, The Town, in Boston, Massachusetts on September 01, 2009. Fame Pictures, Inc

Ben Affleck does double duty on the set of his new film, The Town, in Boston, Massachusetts on September 25, 2009. Affleck was seen in costume filming scenes as a Boston medic, before changing clothes and directing his co-stars Jon Hamm and Jeremy Renner during their scenes! Fame Pictures, Inc

Ben Affleck and Rebecca Hall share some laughs along with some flirtatious body language while on set this afternoon in Boston, Massachusetts September 15, 2009. The two have been working closely on the set of “The Town” along with a few other young hotties. Fame Pictures, Inc

Ben Affleck gets comfortable in his role opposite Rebecca Hall as the two film for The Town, as they shot in Boston on September 9, 2009. Fame Pictures, Inc

Jon Hamm and Ben Affleck take to the streets of Boston, MA to shoot for the film the Town on September 18, 2009. Affleck, a Boston native is wearing many hats on this production, including playing a main character, writing the screenplay and directing! Fame Pictures, Inc

Seems like there is chemistry between Ben and Blake in that pic.
John Hamm is so friggin hot.

  2. meme says:

I can’t wait to see this. MY IMAGINARY BOYFRIEND Jeremy Renner is in it. Though I might be dumping him for THE HAMM – that man is hotness personified. BTW Gone Baby Gone was a terrific movie.

  3. bellaluna says:

Kaiser, you’ve GOT to see Gone Baby Gone. I know it’s a really good movie when my husband will sit through it more than once.

*warning* Some parts of Gone Baby Gone are disturbing to parents.

  4. Sophie says:

you definitely should watch Gone Baby Gone Kaiser, it’s excellent. Quite tough to watch at times, but Ben Affleck is actually a very talented director.

  5. CC says:

Note to actors: Unless you are actually from there, please do not attempt a Boston accent. I am from Boston, and it is bizarre how many people get it wrong. Not every Boston accent sounds like the Kennedys’! Even the Harvard-educated, Cambridge born Matt Damon couldn’t get it quite right, although he admittedly did a better job than most. Ben sounds OK in this, but Jeremy Renner and Blake Lively just sound weird.

  6. Eileen Yover says:

Gone Baby Gone was a great movie! I had no idea Affleck directed it.
I know I’m suppose to despise Morgan Freeman since he’s a two-timing a-hole who hooks up with younger women….but, ugh, I can’t! Its that voice.

  7. Rachel says:

Gone Baby Gone is such a great movie. Ben is actually a very talented director and I am very excited to see ‘The Town’

  8. kaligula says:

blake lively, the worst actress in the history of tv, got a part in this? i shall not see it.

  9. Sumodo1 says:

Wow! I’ll be getting popcorn in my teeth for this one.

  10. Lucy says:

Oh wow… my day just got side tracked into sexual day dreaming.

    The Hamm and Renner?!

    *Sigh*

  11. Maggie Grace says:

    oh m’god

  12. Poopie says:

I loves me some HAMM !!!!!!!!!

  13. jones says:

I actually enjoyed Gone Baby Gone (mostly cause his hottie brother Casey Affleck was in it), but for his directorial debut, it was very good. I’ll definitely check this one out too.

  14. Kate says:

CC5 — Don’t see Knight and Day. Cameron Diaz’s attempt at a Boston accent is absolutely dreadful. Totally distracted me through the whole movie. I couldn’t get past it.

  15. Melissa says:

This movie looks AWESOME!!! I am also blown away!!

  16. Strawberry says:

Looks awesome. Blake Lively looks hilarious as white trash – eyeliner much?

  17. gjillie says:

as a boston-born person, the WORST boston accents ever attempted EVER were in “The Perfect Storm.” It was atrocious.
The best accent goes MARK WAHLBERG! (for obvious reasons!)

  18. lrm says:

    ha ha…you guys are funny.
i’m from boston-born and raised for a few generations back…and now that i’ve lost mine, i cannot even do one!
but i know what you mean-my dad, mom, etc etc have the strongest regional accents, and it’s not what’s exagerrated or kennedy like on film.

although, some of the best ones i’ve seen were on SNL-remember those skits? ‘wicked’??? w/jimmy fallon and i cannot remember the chick’s name…hilarious, though.

i’m embarassed that i can’t even do my own accent-but you should hear my h.s. prom tapes-my CA born husband laughed his a*s off!

  19. Ellie says:

wow ben got ripped! i didn’t know he had it in him…

  20. ctkat says:

“Gone Baby Gone” was really, really good- Ben Affleck is a talented director.

I think he has the chops to follow in the footsteps of Robert Redford and Clint Eastwood, both movie stars who transitioned into really successful, critically and commercially acclaimed directors.

I’ll definitely be seeing this- that’s not saying much, since I’ll see anything with The Hamm.

  21. Kitten says:

I am so insanely pumped to see this as much of it was filmed on my street in Charlestown! 😀
As I said in a different post I watched them film some of it and The Hamm looked like a shlumpy dad and Ben Affleck looked sexy as hell. I know I know…weird but true.

  22. Cinderella says:

    Looking good!

  23. Me says:

    I’ll see it.

  24. locagirl says:

Ben Affleck is such a babe. I will always love him. Gone Baby Gone was a great movie – this one will probably be good too!

  25. H says:

I am going to agree with all the posters who are saying watch Gone Baby Gone, good movie and I think Ben has a talent for directing. This trailer looks really good.

  26. meme says:

THE HAMM a schlumpy dad? Bite your tongue. That man is ssssssssmokin’ hot.

  27. Madison says:

Looks like a really good movie. I think Mr Affleck has a bit of crush on Blake in that picture.

  28. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

    Jon Hamm.

    That is all.

  29. Chris says:

Might have been better if Casey Affleck was in it, but it looks good.

  30. lasherola says:

“Gone Baby Gone” was awesome BECAUSE Casey Affleck was in it and did a superb job!!! Renner is gorgeous!

  31. canadianchick says:

Hamm-ana hamm-ana, that man is sex on wheels. If I were Jen Garner I would freak at the photo of Ben Affleck and Boobs Legsley,

  32. Laura says:

Meme, hands off Renner. He’s mine!

  33. Kitty2000 says:

Yeah, whenever I read Dennis Lehane now I always picture Casey Affleck as Patrick. He was perfect.

    This movie looks incredible.

@Kate re Knight and Day – I’m NOT from Boston (not from the States at all) and I agree, the accent was awful, but the whole film was a crapfest, so there you go.

  34. Jelly says:

@meme-you can’t dump Jeremy. He is much hotter than Jon Hamm. He’s just been out of the spotlight for a while and you forgot how intense he is. He’s playing a bad guy bank robber so I expect him to be on fire in this one. If you dump him, let me know, I’ll take him.

  35. tina says:

I guess now people will now stop asking where’s Ben? He was hard at work making this movie .He’s a perfectionist and didn’t want to make a half-assed movie. Bravo to him .People that have seen this movie say it’s great.Hope this will change how people think about him and start taking him seriously. As they should.

  36. jane says:

As much as I agree the movie looks great, I wonder how great it will do at the box office after news of a scandal Ben is involved in hits the tabs and internet. Just heard and apparently the sources are really strong, that Ben has been having an affair with another woman since last year. News will explode in the coming weeks, get ready folks, and Ben all your hard work you put into this movie may all be for nothing, if people (women) turn on you. Huge scandal!!

  37. jc126 says:

Lifelong resident of Boston here – Cameron Diaz, to her credit, did NOT try to do a Boston accent in Knight and Day! It is a tough accent to do, although DiCaprio gets better with each movie set in Boston.
Regarding The Town, it does look good, except for the presence of Ben Affleck, whom I can’t stand (but he is a good director). I know people who’ve met him and say he is a total egotistical ass, d-bag. But if the reviews are outstanding I’ll see it, I like Boston-set movies.

  38. Leo says:

Is that right, Jane? I don’t want anything bad to happen but that is fascinating if it’s true. I don’t think Ben is such a great guy. I think what appeals to people about him is that he has a nice side and has the potential to be stand up dude, however, he fails; making him a weak minded person under all the veneer.

I wouldn’t be too surprised if he was cheating. Crazy. But we’ll see…thanks for the info.

An affair was good for Mr.&Mrs. Smith´ box office…
jane, are you sure about this? BA&JG seem to be solid…

  40. jane says:

I was shocked to hear it too, but the person coming out with this information is 100% certain that it is true mainly because her sources are solid. She is opening herself to lawsuits from Ben’s side but she is prepared for it. It will probably start catching on in the tabs in the next week or so, I’m not sure which magazine she will cut a deal with. Because children are involved, I think the public will react differently to this then they did with Brad and Angelina’s affair. Either way it sucks, and BTW Jen apparently has suspected it for quite a while now.

  41. Camille says:

It looks good, but I feel that I have just seen the whole movie. I think they could have left some bits out of that trailer.

  42. Chris says:

You’d have to be a bit of prude to boycott a film just because the director had an extra marital affair. And what about all the other people involved in the film that didn’t have an affair? Why should they be punished?
