Lea Michele exhibits her dramatic weight loss at Teen Choice Awards

As I was going through the photos from the Teen Choice Awards, one photo of Glee’s Lea Michele popped up, and I was flabbergasted by her sudden and dramatic weight loss. This is not good – AT ALL. As far as I’ve seen, Lea has always been a slender, healthy-looking girl, but CB and I estimate that Lea must have lost about 15 pounds, all within the last month or two. It doesn’t look like a healthy weight loss either, I’m afraid. Her face looks gaunt, her legs are scaring me, and she looks ill.

Apparently, people really began noticing Lea’s weight loss last week, when she showed up for a Fox event looking very tiny. Previously, Lea told the press that: “I’m a vegan. It makes me feel really good and bright. You need a lot of energy to play spunky Rachel Berry, so I’ve tried a lot of different things — and so far, this is working.” Oh, honey. It’s really not “working” if people wince when they see you.

Considering Glee has such a young cast, and they’re really being put the ringer as far as stress and workload, I’ve got to think that somebody high-up on Glee or at Fox is going to say something or do something. Ryan Murphy is the creator, writer and producer of Glee, and I’ve got to think that he’ll be the one to say something to her. Not that just saying something will help, but maybe if she’s encouraged to have a healthier figure and to actually be healthy and eat enough by her boss, it would be a step in the right direction.

Here’s a photo of Lea from one year ago exactly for comparison:

her face looks much better rounded out, so she should try and gain some of that back in my opinion. the skinnier she gets, the bigger and more masculine her face looks because of her large jawline and lack of a neck.

  2. Marjalane says:

Oh my. That weight loss just aged her 10-15 years. It gave her face some very unflattering angles.

  3. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

She looks at least 10 yrs older now.

  4. Riley says:

I agree. She seems so believable on Glee…Cute but not overly glammed up. Here she looks kind of like she would be doing blow in the bathroom. And she plays the part of Rachel so well; I think as well as Reese Witherspoon plays Tracy Flick in Election. I hope she will consider maintaining her sweet, strong, girly figure.

  5. Katie says:

She has a bobble-head thing happening in the top photo, but I feel like it might only be because she has a big head and a big jaw. She doesn’t look unhealthy to me, but I would agree that she has lost weight.

  6. Katalina says:

She has no boobs left! And she looks like a lollipop with that tiny body and huge head. That (to me) is a sure sign that you’ve lost too much weight, when you look like a Blow-Pop.

  7. guesty says:

    she still looks like she’s @ a healthy weight…doesn’t look anorexic-ish @ all.

  8. Cinderella says:

When you start looking like a balloon on a string, it’s time to start eating.

  9. PrettyTarheel says:

I think some of this is the particular photos. I looked at some of the other ones that were full body, and she doesn’t look as bobble-headed. The dress she chose, along with those shoes, is definitely elongating her. However, she has lost weight. I’m not saying its nose candy, but something is sure suppressing her appetite.

  10. lauren says:

She looks like a man in a wig, thank god I don’t look like her.

  11. Electric says:

she does not look good. bags under the eyes too

  12. denise says:

Wow. She looked great in last year’s photo. Thinner is not always better. She really should stop losing all the weight, the nose will be more prominent on a thin face.

  13. Molly says:

I don’t think she looks horrible now but I definitely did not think that she needed to lose any weight. I hope she stops now.

  14. Bored@Work says:

ughh..Can’t stand her face. That 1st pic makes her look like a tranny.

  15. California Surfer says:

Whoa, Grandma says this chick looks alot like Sophia Loren!

  16. Johanna says:

She does look older now & like someone said, dude in a wig is spot on! She’s definitely a Hollywood cliche now.

  17. Cam says:

    I agree with @guesty.
But yea, she does look older.

  18. lucy2 says:

I saw other recent photos and she looked even thinner than she does here.
It definitely aged her, not good. She looked great before, she didn’t need to lose any weight.

  19. Kate says:

She’s someone who looks better with some curves; it makes her look younger. However, she’s not yet dangerously thin and she seems healthy enough.

But she should definetly stop where she is and not pull some Zellweger crap; getting all manish and zombie looking and shit!

  20. miranda says:

It’s probably just all the stress of the false media reports on how much of a diva she’s become. Or the stress of being a diva. Either way, I’m so over Glee now – a new album every month? Talk about milking the fans for every penny!

  21. GatsbyGal says:

Yeah, she does look a lot older now, and definitely less attractive. Her face looked better rounded out instead of all thin. And where did her awesome hips go??

  22. I Choose Me says:

She looks thinner (and older) but not unhealthy imo. I do thinks she looks better with a bit more weight on her, her face in particular is softer and prettier when its fuller.

Edit. Was most of her weight in her chest? Where did her boobs go, or did she have implants taken out?

  23. ummmmm says:

shes just starving herself at this point. dont bring vegans into this mess!!

  24. Jane says:

    Yeah, she looked better before.

  25. kim says:

Next will be the nose job for her deviated septum. Shame all these actresses end up morphing into freaks with their anorexia, botox and nose jobs.

  26. The Hamm is My Dream Man says:

She looks fine. A bit thinner, yes. And she does look better with a bit more weight on but she doesn’t look unhealthy.

Someone needs to tell her that the “I-gotta-pee” pose is not working.

  27. kayla says:

shes definitely lost some weight but she doesnt look unhealthy imo.. she shouldnt loose anymore though because it makes her body look unpreportional

  28. Novaraen says:

Don’t watch Glee..but wow this girl has a masculine face! The weight loss really accentuates it. Like the other said she looks 10 years older. Cute green fern dress though…

Sad how Hollywood pushes these girls to be thinner and thinner.

  29. Fae says:

*smacks forehead with palm* she had a natural pin up figure before, truly gorgeous. Silly bunny, eat a cake.

  30. gen says:

She looks great. I also think she looked great before. I think y’all are just hating on her.

  31. Penguen says:

    Sandwich. Now.

  32. Isa says:

At first I thought she wasn’t very attractive until I saw the “before” picture. She needs to gain the weight back. Her body looks fine either way, but her face needs the extra!

  33. Alarmjaguar says:

    Say it ain’t so!

Wow, she looks so much older — that can’t be good for her or for the fact that her character is supposed to be in high school!

  34. jane16 says:

Crap. I really hate it when these “stars” do the anorexia thing. It has such a bad effect on teenage & 20ish young women. My teenage niece came to visit us this summer for a couple of weeks. She became vegan, and now hardly eats. One day I figured she ate about 500 calories. She used to be hyper energic and bubbly and fun, she spent two weeks laying around on the couch or her bed, no energy, no spark, dark circles uncer her 15 yo eyes, and worst of all, is now wearing a size 00!!! She informed my son that she expects she will look like Angelina when she is older! Actually, she looks like Audrey Hepburn, a lot, big pretty squarish face and beautiful doe eyes, and now she has the stick thin bod to match. She’s a Gleek, so now this will be more ammo for her to continue on her self destructive path. I have two other nieces in their 20’s. Ones a size 0 and one is now up to a size 2. They used to have fabulous thick hair & be pretty girls, now they’ve had to cut their hair short and have wrinkles! One of them was close to death more than once. My other niece is size 6 or occasionally size 8, works out to watch her weight & eats what she wants, is happily married and has a fabulous life. It makes us sick that the anorexic girls can’t use her as a role model, instead of these nutty celebs.

  35. aenflex says:

I feel the same way about Renee Zellweger, just watched BJ Diary last night for the millionth time and I cannot get over how attractive Renee looked in that film. Specially around the face. I agree with another poster who wrote thinner isn’t always better.

  36. mavis says:

With her face looking so squarish, and her legs so mannish, i’d say she needs to gain some weight and pronto.

  37. trinity says:

you exaggerate! she looks healthy not too skinny, please! unbelievable!

  38. jane16 says:

She looks so much prettier in the yellow dress. Kaiser is right, she looks like she’s lost about 15 pounds. Wonder what Ryan whatshisname, the Glee creator will think about this. I have a cousin who works @ Glee since day one. He said Ryan told all the actors in the beginning that the show was not about any of them, and that any one of them could be replaced. His vision for the show is that it is about the club as a whole. Still, cousin says that Lea has become annoyingly divaish. I do love her voice, whatever she looks like.

  39. LAB says:

Halfway thru the first season of Glee I could tell she was anorexic/bulimic. Many, many young girls with eating disorders go vegan because it’s an “acceptable” way to say, “Nope, can’t eat that. Nope, can’t eat that either. I’ll just have an arugula salad with oil & vinegar on the side.” That kind of thing appears troubling in someone eating a “regular” diet, but for vegans it’s normal, i.e., everybody assumes you eat all veggies because you’re vegan, not because you’re deliberately starving yourself. I would put Zooey Deschanel in this category, too. “Food allergies” or “food sensitivities” (always to fattening things) are another excuse often made by girls who are anorexic/bulimic.

  40. dinosaur says:

She looks… weird. She’s not scary thin but you can clearly see the weight loss on her face, which is not always a positive thing, as is Lea’s case. I don’t think she’s a very pretty person already but now she looks aged and somewhat haggard.

  41. Sadie says:

    She’s unattractive at either weight.

  42. albeli says:

    It definitely ages her.

  43. englishbreakfast says:

“i could snap you like a chicken!”

  44. tick says:

don’t see a big difference. probably just an angle.

  45. Mandy says:

I think she got into really good shape and changed her eating habits more than anything. She doesn’t look like she’s in dangerous territory to me. She looks like a lot of the athletes and dancers I know. My problem is with her hair. This is not a flattering hair style on her at all. I think that is what is aging her and doing all the unflattering things to her face.

  46. nysro says:

She looks better in video, than she does in still pictures.

  47. randyhandydays says:

Can anyone say anorexia? She’s probably gotten slack for her weight and did what every starlet does … go anorexic/bulemic. Then she’ll come out with a book or an ET interview how about Glee/US weekly/the media made put pressure on her to lose weight blah blah blah

  48. Ally says:

LAB- Being unhealthy on a vegan diet is the same as being unhealthy on the Standard American Diet (SAD). And, obviously you can be very overweight by being vegan. Nuts, oils, fried faux meats, etc. I have never, ever heard of being vegan as a way to cover up anorexia… so you made this up? But, now that you have brought this up, it saddens me that you would believe/write that and thus other uninformed people reading your comments will agree. Being vegan is the HEALTHIEST way to eat. If you know how to live a healthy lifestyle.

  49. Elizabeth says:

This is ridiculous. Lea Michele has always been tiny. Go to YouTube and watch her perform “Mama Who Bore Me” from the 2007 Drama Desk Awards, for example. Same body. Stop picking on the girl!

  50. DiMi says:

Her body looks great, but her face looks like a 40 year old woman. She looked so much prettier and younger before.

  51. Frank says:

Please just cause you have a forum to bitch doesn’t mean you have too. She lost a few pound. Pretty girl either way. I am sure you would bitch if she gained a few pound too. Sad people.

  52. Beeb says:

Someone just needs to tell her that losing weight won’t reduce that nose, that it actually makes it more prominent. Rather than losing weight she could have just gotten a nose job and been perfect. Now she’s just a stick with a bobble head and a big schnoz.

  53. CB Rawks says:

That’s quite upsetting to see. She’s so bony now.

  54. Kelly says:

God it’s so horrible to see all that ‘pleeeeeease looooooveeee meeeeee’ hyena-faced POSE posing that’s going on lately. It’s so desperate and creepy. I just feel like zapping some of these pieces with a cow prod to make them stop!
Looks like it’s hard times in Hollywood at the mo; wouldn’t want to be the person carrying a successful show if this is what it does to you.

I don’t accept that excluding all animal products from your diet is the ‘healthiest’ way to eat, but I suppose that depends on your definition of health. We’re omnivores, biologically, and that’s just physical reality, no matter what your beliefs. If you try to backchat Mother Nature, you’re going to get slapped down.

  55. Patrice says:

Wow. Lea looks really AWFUL in the first pic! But I have to say that if Lea lost a lot of weight simply for going about being vegan in a really clean and healthy way (not like some who do, and consider potato chips and pasta a balanced diet) then good for her! If she’s genuinely taking care of herself in a nutritionally sound way then her body will eventually balance out and she’ll probably gain back a few pounds over time : )

I do hope on the other hand that some of my fears won’t be realized in the upcoming seasons with Glee going all super “Hollywood”. It has runied other really good shows with formerly unknown cast memebrs in the past once actresses went all anorexic and they started to unessecarily get well known celeb guest stars. Please Glee producers: don’t try to “fix” what isn’t broken!!!

  56. chasingadalia says:

The boobs are always the first to go when you lose weight.

I really hope she gains it back. As someone who is unnaturally skinny and trying to gain weight to look healthier, I find this cringe-worthy.

  57. NicoleAM says:

Am I the only female trying to GAIN weight?
When your head looks too big for your body it’s not a natural look.

  58. vicky says:

Lea is at a very healthy weight she looks fine. She has been this thin before in 2007,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFWg3t52ppA, http://orlandotheater.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/lea-michele-jonathan-groff2.jpg. She also was very thin in her audition video, so how do you know she didn’t gain weight during glee? Also pictures are always not that correct beacuse of angles and photoshop. She looks fine in these recent pictures http://justjared.buzznet.com/2010/08/06/lea-michele-channels-baby-one-more-time/, http://justjared.buzznet.com/photo-gallery/2469611/lea-michele-matthew-morrison-glee-academy-event-01/
As for the boobs thing, she never really had any before http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/news/photos/2007-06-10/200706101181515714955.html- just ask anyone who saw her in spring awakening. Heres what Lea had said about the weight loss – http://www.accesshollywood.com/oscars/tgif-has-glees-lea-michele-lost-weight-august-12-2010_video_1243980- if you look at the picture access hollywood used it was not that dramatic

  59. Joss says:

Wow you all are the biggest bunch of catty bitches I ever heard. She looks fine, maybe lost a few pound but please. You all wish you looked half that good. Stop stop you are embarrassing yourselves.

The first pic is not flattering but the rest are fine. You are a sad bunch of people.

I really hate the internet sometimes. People feel like they can be rude and mean just for the hell of it.

  60. Lisa says:

She seems to be at a healthy weight, but she was so much more beautiful before she lost that weight. She lost definition of her beautiful features. I hope she didn’t feel obligated to lose this weight because of the celebrity world.

  61. Trying to Recover From and Eating Disorder says:

You can tell she did it unhealthily. Look at how small her arms are compared to her body… her rib cage is way larger than her waist. And she has NO breasts. It’s not like she has naturally small boobs. She looks awful.

  62. emily rose says:

she was once gorgoues where has that gone grr that stupid girl and she wasnt fat lol

  63. lexi says:

you guys a rediculous, one she’s not a vegan because she wants to be skinny, because if you’ve seen PETA ads you know it’s because she loves animals. two the reason her legs look so skinny in the TCA picture is because the shows she’s wearing are very cluncky, and three she’s 24, that’s when you start to loose your baby fat, so yes ahe may be a vegan but that doesn’t mean she’s annorexic

  64. Emily says:

She does NOT look too skinny or anorexic. You guys must be blind. She looks beautiful in real life and on Glee! Stop picking on her please!

  65. Kay says:

I don’t think she looks unhealthy. She looks great. Any more loss and it would look bad, but this is fine.

  66. francesca says:

i think she looks good, and to be honest i can’t see that she’s lost that much weight, and god only knows what the article means about her legs ‘scaring’ them – they’re not boney, they don’t look thin, and her complexion looks fine – the fact that she does have quite a strong jaw line means any extra weight she carries emphasises that, so you can tell in her face she’s lost quite a bit, however the tops of her arms aren’t thin either – i don’t get why this is saying she’s to thin. the only noticable difference is that she looks taller!
