Fantasia is “committed more than ever to her daughter” after overdosing

On Tuesday, we heard about Fantasia Barrino’s overdose. Apparently, she was so overcome by stress at being publicly called out for homewrecking, so she took an overdose of aspirin and sleeping pills. She ended up going to a North Carolina hospital where she detoxed for two nights, and in that time Fantasia – through her manager – released a statement admitting her affair with the married Antwaun Cook. Her manager’s statement was very Jesus-y and it basically boiled down to: I believed Antwaun when he said his marriage was already falling apart, so that’s on him, and I’ve asked God’s forgivness for f-cking a married dude, and I know that he forgives me, so if you love Jesus, you should too.

Anyway, Fantasia has been released from the hospital, and of course, her batsh-t crazy manager spoke again:

After a harrowing couple of days, Fantasia Barrino is on the mend – and out of the hospital.

The American Idol season 3 champ was hospitalized in Charlotte, N.C., Monday for an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid, but she was released from the hospital late Wednesday, says her manager Brian Dickens.

“She has been lifted up by the outpouring of love and support from her fans,” Dickens said. “She is more committed than ever to her daughter and her work because they are her heart, her soul and inspiration.”

The medical scare came just after Barrino, 26, was named in a court filing alleging that she was having an affair with a married man. The singer denied she was responsible for breaking up the marriage of Paula and Cook. However, on Tuesday admitted having dated Cook “off and on for 11 months.”

Barrino says she believed Cook and his wife were separated, and is now “heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused.”

She is “committed more than ever to her daughter”? Her daughter didn’t enter into her mind when she “overdosed” like a drama queen on some aspirin? You know… generally speaking, I don’t really care about the “homewrecking” issue. Those stories are fun to cover for me, and I like doing it because I think people like to read about it. But usually, on a personal level, I think most of the “she’s a homewrecker” stories aren’t so black and white, and you know, sh-t happens. But my feelings always change when there are innocent children involved in the drama of the homewrecking situation, and this Fantasia drama kind of makes me sick. I think Fantasia deserves a lot of sh-t for these self-indulgent, pity-poor-me drama queen moves, especially because she’s a mom, and she was screwing around with a married man who had children too. It just sucks. She sucks as a person.

By the way, People Magazine released their story on “Just who is Antwaun Cook?” This is the celebrity-sanctified version of events… and it’s surprisingly not stuck up Fanatasia’s ass. They seem to be on the side of Antwaun’s estranged wife, Paula. Good for them:

Two weeks ago, Antwaun Cook lived a low-profile life. A father of two sons, he managed a Charlotte, N.C., T-Mobile store and recently joined a local real estate office as an agent. But one court document and a bitter separation later, he finds himself immersed in headlines as the man who began dating Fantasia Barrino – while he was still married.

The American Idol season 3 champ, 26, initially denied she had broken up Cook’s marriage to his wife Paula but later confirmed she had been in an on-again, off-again relationship with him for 11 months.

Barrino, her manager said, believed Cook when he told her that he and his wife had “separated in the late summer of 2009.” Even back in January, the singer spoke to PEOPLE about her relationship with Cook (whom she said was “separated”) and dismissed claims he was cheating on his wife with her.

A complaint filed by Cook’s wife, however, tells a different story. According to the legal papers, the couple, who married in October 2005 and have two boys together, Christian, 6, and Jackson, 2, only started living separately on June 16, 2010.

Wife’s Allegations
Among some of the wife’s allegations: Cook and Barrino carried on an affair before she split with her husband, even making a sex tape, the two frequented “bars, restaurants, nightclubs and the like” together, and that they had matching tattoos.

An East Carolina University business alum who played football at the school and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Cook obtained his real estate license in 2006 so he could “share the knowledge from my own ‘good’ and ‘interesting’ experiences in the homebuying and selling process,” he says on a Web site for Keller Williams Realty, the firm he joined in August.

Describing himself as “extremely motivated” on his LinkedIn profile, Cook has also had an 8-year-long career in the telecommunications industry, including his other current job as a retail sales manager for a local T-Mobile store – where he apparently first met Barrino.

In the complaint, Cook’s wife seeks custody of their two kids, along with child support and alimony. But there’s a chance even more legal action may take place. Barrino, who was hospitalized Monday for an overdose, could potentially face a lawsuit, because North Carolina is one of seven states that allows a party to sue a “homewrecker.”

So what attracted Barrino to Cook in the first place? She previously told PEOPLE she wasn’t interested in being with a guy who worked in the music industry. “He doesn’t rap or produce,” she said. “He’s from my hometown. He’s just a regular dude.”

I’m kind of hoping Paula sues, don’t you? I doubt she will, but here’s hoping.

matching tattoos is what did it for me…haha bleh!

  2. di butler says:

Fantasia needs to be committed. Forget her great remorse, this bish is crazy. I’ve always thought so.

  3. denise says:

This is kind of sad. No man is worth killing yourself over, esp. when you have a young daughter at home. What kind of example is she setting for her? Hope she gets the much needed help.

  4. Sumodo1 says:

‘Tasia needs to learn meditation, learn yoga, something! ANYTHING! Needy woman, self-centered bitch with a baby-stripper speaking voice. I used to LOVE HER!!!! Now, she needs to get serious, because this potential “alienation of affection” lawsuit will end what is left of her crumbling career. If she doesn’t watch it, ‘Tasia will be working at T-Mobile.

  5. Laurie says:

Thanks for calling the situation like it is! I’m tired of all the media playing the ‘poor Fantasia’ card. I’m glad she is ok, but the statement about her daughter today feels like damage control rather than a true revelation 2 days after an attempted suicide.

  6. meme says:

Overdosing on aspirin has a mortality rate of 2%. drama queen.

  7. Chelly says:

    What a dumb ass

  8. jc126 says:

The sleaziest PR move, in my opinion, is to mention your kids and your commitment to them when your transgression had nothing to do with the kids whatsoever. It’s a move designed to silence any criticism by dragging kids into it, and people do it all the time. Blech.

  9. Sumodo1 says:

No. no, too much aspirin in the system can overload the kidneys and is sometimes more toxic than the sleeping pills–which trauma docs can handle ok. Believe me, ‘Tasia knew what she was taking. I only know this from TV doctor shows, BTW. But, it happens to be true.

  10. Moreaces says:

I guess she has been reading the blogs,

  11. meme says:

@Sumodo1 – that is rare. there would be more suicide by aspirin if it was so lethal. she probably threw it all up anyway – first thing you get is nauseous.

  12. Tess says:

Really? The only thing she ought to be committed to is an institution for the chronically selfish and ignorant.

    Pathetic. What is this, Idiocracy?

  13. MissyA says:

This woman makes me livid. I could absolutely breathe fire right now.

Make sure your daughter has someone at home to love and care for her since you’re obviously too inept, you selfish cow.

Fuck her, and her PR team.

  14. sparkle586 says:

I dont know — I kind of feel like picking on Fantasia is a little like picking on the weak kid in school. Yes, she screwed up big time, but SHE’s screwed up. Lets not forget that before AI plucked her out of obscurity, this woman could barely even READ, let alone function with all the hype of her new life (illiteracy + rape during teenage years + extreme poverty + single motherhood + inevitable hollywood exploitation = sad situation). Her behavior isn’t excusable, but I really dont think that Fantasia was equipped for all of this –kinda like Ruben Studdard, but not smart enough to back away from the roller coaster.

  15. RHONYC says:

she o’d on some pills over some MAN?!

and NOW she wants to put her daughter 1st?!

    hey fantasia…go f%ck yourself.

    idiot.

    🙁

  16. lena says:

wait so she should get sued becuase this douche lied to her and said he was separated from his wife? WHY?!? He’s the one that was lying his ass off! As usual the man comes out in the clear and the woman gets all of the hate thrown her way. She already stated that she KNEW he was MARRIED, but she believed him when she said that he was separated from his wife.

Suicide is, to me, a selfish act but who the F*** are some of you to judge her state of mind. Again I don’t remember reading these type of comments about Billy Joel’s daughter.

  17. jane says:

@ #14 & #16…agreed. I dont feel badly for her at all in regards to what she did (the affair) b\c I remember she had been asked about his married status when they were together and it was pretty much out there that he was still married BUT depression is a heck of a thing. It doesnt always follow logic. Couple that with having your business aired out for discussion before the nation…it takes a very strong person with a good support system to brave it. She seems to be going it alone. Poor girl.

  18. Kim says:

Stay strong Tasia you survived rape, domestic abuse,Teenage motherhood, being sued by your father and you will get survive this. Take care of yourself and be strong for your baby girl.

  19. GatsbyGal says:

Her poor kid doesn’t stand a chance in hell with a mother that stupid and selfish.

  20. gen says:

You can take the girl out of the trailer park but you can’t take the trailer park outta the girl.
Btw, the guy was SEPERATED! Hello, he was not divorced. You wait until someone is divorced before you hookup, duh. And on top of that, I believe the wife has recordings of Fantasia saying stuff to her like, “he wouldn’t be with me if you had treated him right” etc.
Maybe she should have given her daughter up for adoption if she was going to be a selfish, od’ing, homewrecking little brat.

  21. bellaluna says:

NOW she’s more committed than ever to her daughter?!? NOW? Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this woman a single parent? So now that she’s made a f*cking mess of her own life by making less than stellar choices regarding her lovelife; NOW she’s more committed than ever to her daughter?! Thanks a f*ckload, mom!

  22. Mavourneen says:

    Stupid cow!

How could she try and kill herself over some man-drama when she has a little girl?!?!

I hope that child is raised by someone less stupendously selfish from now on.

  23. TQB says:

@lena, last time I checked Alexa Ray Joel wasn’t someone’s mother. Suicide is always sad and, in my opinion, always selfish – but when there’s a child involved I am really just about out of sympathy. A single mother who thinks her BF drama is severe enough to make her child an orphan? The only word for that is GROSS.

  24. BurntSalt says:

She will be fine. She’s be through the mill. Poor girl. She will rise from the ashes like a phoenix. I believe in her. She’s special.

  25. Adrien says:

So, uuhhh, when’s the album out then.

  26. lena says:

@ 23, sorry i can’t see your name…Alexa Joel Ray is someones daughter… and in my opinion it’s far worse to bury your child than it would be your parent

  27. Truthzbetta says:

Hold on. She was not trying to kill herself over a man, she was trying to distract everyone just when the mainstream media found out this hypocrite was screwing a married man and had called THE WIFE to tell her “he don’t want you. Learn to keep a man next time you get married.” The story just broke, and she pulled this to distract.

Self-centered hypocrite is using Jesus, her child, and a faux suicide attempt to try to keep people from knowing what an awful person she is. She really lost me forever. She never had to go to all these lows, never.

Oh, and yes, I want Paula to sue the b-word! This faux suicide is also about not wanting to get sued. You can tell from all the attempts to claim she “had no idea the marriage wasn’t over.” That’s not what she said before. I hope to heck Paula doesn’t fall for it.

  28. jc126 says:

Just speaking generally, not about Fantasia, I don’t think it’s wrong to date someone who’s legally separated. Divorces can drag on for years. Just make sure they really are separated!

  29. Ohso says:

She should have kept her focus on her child instead of chasing behind some dick. He played her and now he and his wife will be laughing at her while enjoying fannys money. The lesson here is keep your legs closed to married men!
    married men!

  30. doble says:

She should get the same sympathy that Christie Brinkley’s daughter got for her “heartbreak related depression”.

  31. In Another World says:

    Truthzbetta,

Amen, Sister! You have described Fantasia’s true motivations accurately.

The comments hit the nail on the head.

A similar description could be used for a former co-worker / bully I dealt with that led me to one of the deepest depressions faced.

Only I was able to see the truth with this bully. Jesus saves!
