Amid all the “are they or aren’t they” stories about an alleged romance between L.A. Ink star Kat Von D and serial cheater Jesse James, Kat sent out a tweet admitting that she was dating James. She then quickly deleted it but the damage was already done and the story was picked up by multiple outlets. The story is in People, which has or a cover this week about how Sandra has moved on from Jesse. People even reports that Jesse and Kat stayed in the same room in Las Vegas. I guess we can assume that this is the official version of events and that Sandra’s people want to put it out there.

Kat Von D’s fingers apparently spoke too soon.

After Tweeting Wednesday, “Yes, Jesse and I are dating,” the LA Ink star, 28, took down the message, though it was quickly spread and re-Tweeted by more than 100 people.

Her rep has said she and the motorcycle mogul, 41, are just friends and their cozy night out in Vegas over the weekend wasn’t the start of a new relationship.

But a source tells PEOPLE their friendship could possibly turn into something more.

“Jesse and Kat drove to Las Vegas together in Jesse’s car. It was just the two of them and they slept in the same room,” says the source. “They have been friends for years, but this is the first time they are both single.”

Another source adds that, “Jesse’s friends are happy that he is dating again. It’s a good thing that he has moved on from Sandra, because it seemed a bit delusional of Jesse to think that Sandra would take him back after he caused tons of hurtful drama.”

For her part, James’s ex Sandra Bullock tells PEOPLE in its current issue that the two have “moved on with our lives and only want the best for each other.”

Similarly, James’s rep tells Access Hollywood the motorcycle mogul moving on and “only wishes Sandra the best in everything she does.”

Meanwhile Radar Online has audio of a radio interview that Kat did recently in which she was asked about the rumors that she’s dating Jesse. She responded “I’ve known Jesse since I was 22… We’ve always been friends, even when all that negative stuff went down. I stay out of all that drama stuff. Going out people were always asking ‘what do you think about this and that?’

“I think it’s none of my business, and I think it’s none of anybody’s business really.

“I am a believer that, like, we are all human and capable of making mistakes. If I were to be crucified for my drug addiction three years ago now, it’d be hard to live with that. I’m sober now and it’s awesome, but I have made mistakes too. I think people have a hard time letting go of that. For me, I have a lot of respect for Jesse and how he handled it.”

When the DJ mentioned that Kat was Jesse’s type, she said “I think I am his type on a different level than people would understand,” and went on to talk about how they both are artists who have experience with the downside of fame. (She explained it as “when things blow up.”)

I’m sure he told her that she was his type “on a different level,” and I’m sure he said that to all the other women he banged on his coffin couch at work when he was bored in the afternoons.

Popeater has some quotes from an alleged insider who claims that “Kat is totally into him. Jesse just has this way with women that makes you melt. Plus, Kat feels bad for him. He’s the most hated man in America, after what he did to Sandra, which she finds kind of sexy.” Poor, sad, misunderstood Jesse. He just needs a good woman to believe his total bullshit. I just hope this means, for sure, that Sandra is no longer buying it on any level.
