Lady Gaga: “People who say they need drugs to be creative are full of sh-t”

gaga13

I really wish Lady Gaga would stop talking about drugs. I just get the feeling that she’s trying to sound a lot more hardcore than she really is. Like she’s trying to sound like she was some horrible cokehead, when really she was just a party girl with too much time. But at some point during her metamorphosis into “Lady Gaga” she began selling this story of a cokehead’s downward spiral and the subsequent redemption, all for her family and her music and her monsters. It’s a chrysalis story that Gaga has sold in interview after interview, probably because she doesn’t have a lot of new crap to say. She talked about it Vanity Fair. She talked about in Rolling Stone. And now she’s talking about drugs AGAIN in another new interview with Q Magazine (via Contact Music). We get it, Gaga. You used to do drugs. Now finish your new f-cking album.

Lady Gaga says her experiences with drugs helped inspire her music. The ‘Poker Face’ singer began using illegal substances after she dropped out of a music course at New York University in 2005, and she insists getting high helped her creativity.

The 24-year-old pop star said: “[Using drugs] I really figured out the art I wanted to make and was inspired. Some people find inspiration in dark places. I guess I’m one of them. What always made me different is that if I was doing drugs I was also making music. I wasn’t just doing drugs.”

The eccentric singer – real name Stefani Germanotta – also revealed her mother Cynthia didn’t understand why she felt she needed to take drugs and was confused by her early performances.

She told Q magazine: “At the beginning I was doing performance art in handmade leather and leopard bikinis talking about oral sex and Andy Warhol and heavy metal. My mom was like, ‘You’ve lost your mind.’ I was doing drugs, I was really out of control. But I never got so far into it that I overdosed or anything.”

However, Gaga is adamant she doesn’t need drugs anymore and has toned down her wild lifestyle.

She explained: “Once you open those doors they’re open for ever. People who say they need [drugs] to be creative are full of s**t. I’m not some chick on the road getting high and f***ed up every night. I wake up, drink coffee and get on the phone to talk about the creative direction of the next video.”

The singer caused a furor recently when she admitted in a magazine interview she occasionally took cocaine. She said: “I won’t lie; it’s occasional. And when I say occasional, I mean maybe a couple of times a year.”

[From Contact Music]

See? She does coke occasionally, and she’s able to keep it that way. Survey says: she never was an addict. She was just a chick who did coke because she was bored. And now she’s a chick who created this “Myth of Gaga” and can’t stop adding to it. I’m saying this as a fan too – Gaga has the potential to be a great interview. She’s thoughtful, she’s interesting, she has opinions and she’s well-informed (for a pop star). But she needs to stop talking about drugs.

Oh, Gaga did have stuff to say about Paris Hilton though. She was using Paris as a comparison to what Gaga was like growing up: “I don’t see Paris as an artist. People assume that all the girls who went to my school were like Paris and Nicky and the truth is that I went to a very, very religious school. Some girls were very artistic, some did drugs and didn’t give a f**k. It was like any other high school. Except we had nuns. I was the smart, studious theatre and music student. I didn’t hang out with all the popular blonde girls. I wasn’t blonde really until I was 20 years old.” Is this a burn? That Paris isn’t an artist? Eh.

she wouldn t know real talent if it slapped her in her madonna clone face.. just saying

  2. jr says:

    enough…..

hurry up Madonna and come with your new album…that she will eventually copy.

  3. Cancuklehead says:

Who cares what she thinks anyway? Really, I mean she’s just the singin clown du jour.

  4. original kate says:

gah! is she actually “vogueing” in that middle photo? why do people think she’s original again?

  5. Fae says:

I’d be all for her being on everything imaginable if it meant her music became at least a fifth as interesting as her outfits.

Janis Joplin didn’t give a shit what she looked like, but over 40 years later people are still listening to her incredible music. Gaga’s so temporary she may as well come in packs of 20.

  6. Samantha says:

Such a hypocrite. She says anyone who claims they need to take drugs to be creative is full of s***, yet she JUST said she took drugs early on to get creative…

  7. emu says:

Can’t ever remember a single lyric to any of her songs… except whenever I hear them they sound incredibly familiar. She is pure spectacle. And a hack. By far, the parodies of Lady Gaga trump the ‘original’ in my book.

  8. Jover says:

Agree with everyone awful photoshopped cover; how the hell does this clown rate for any style when she has an army of assistants dressing her; second, yes 5 to even mention Janis Joplin’s music (Woodstock, anyone) with this clown’s lame electronica is an insult – you are right 20 years from now CaCa will be history and her outfits won’t even make overstock.com; this girl has truly become delusional is she thinks her songs/schtick are monumentally creative, edgy and original. Enough. Yes emu, the parodies on youtube are better than the original a telling sign that your music is junk

  9. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Lady Gaga doesn’t copy anybody. I wish people would stop saying that shit (I have been censoring myself but is that necessary can I curse?). I don’t think Lady Gaga copies anyone, all musicians out today are inspired by someone and yes I see some inspiration in Gaga’s work but there is some Christina, Britney, and Justin. Everybody. However Gaga has managed to add her own unique twist and its amazing. Plus Gaga is just plain talented.

I never thought Gaga talked about drugs that much but I love that she says people who need drugs to be creative are full of shit. I agree. I hate when people say a controlled substance helped them be inspired to work. However if anyone could claim that and I would believe it, it would be Rick James. Mary Jane is forever my jam.

“Can’t ever remember a single lyric to any of her songs… ”

here, emu – let me help you:

there’s: “olly, olly, olly-andro…olly olly olly!”

and this classic: “ra ra sis boom bah
la la oh la la…gaga ra ra ra!”

  11. jen says:

I’m all GaGa’d out. Please go away.

  12. aussieGal says:

She’s one of those people that should just keep their mouth shut because every time she opens it something even more stupid than the last time comes out.

  13. sophie says:

she sure is full of shiz….and that madonna thing is not working for her anymore…
ohhhh and i luuuuv her rabbit face?TEETH?in the lst pic

  14. LolaBella says:

Is it just me that thinks that GaGa looks like Madonna’s daughter Lourdes in that Vanity Fair cover photo? Whoa.

Love me some GaGa, but even I’m on the verge of saying ‘Just shut up and sing’.

  15. coup de grazia says:

    dear gaga: thanks, captain obvious

  16. lilo-donotpassgo-donotcollect says:

what is really funny, is that people said the same exact stuff about Madonna….fast forward 20 years and she is still making albums. I’ll catch up with all of you in 20 years for my “I told you so”.

  17. california angel says:

“What always made me different is that if I was doing drugs I was also making music. I wasn’t just doing drugs.”

OMG get off your high horse, no pun intended, you are full of it and drug use is drug use regardless of what you accomplish while you’re doing drugs. Nobody cares what drugs she did or does and its not our business to care. She’s a man with confidence issues moonlighting as a women who’s got her shit together. Moving on.

  18. Trillion says:

Paris Hilton’s not an artist?????? NO!!!!!!!!
Anyway…Gaga comes off great in interviews, IMO. I think she’s intelligent, down to earth, grateful, humorous and inspiring. I used to be a hater but she won me over with her talent.
I don’t mind that she talks about drugs. It’s one of my favorite subjects, actually. (coke, not so much though)
Thank god there’s a young woman out there who doesn’t look like a cookie-cutter, has pipes and can sit at a piano and kill it. Suck on that Kesha et al.

  19. Nanea says:

Lady, we get it, you’re quite gaga!

I don’t get though why people say she’s not talented. The kind of music she used to make when she was still called Stefani Germanotta! The songs now – not so much, but she’s hit a nerve and is hugely successful.

  20. scotchy says:

she is not an original, nothing she is doing is remotely unique, even her costuming and her comments are not unique.
but i cannot fault her for that she is a product of her time and the time is one in which people don’t really like things that are truly original, unique and different.
    it’s dangerous.
she mediocre, there are a LOT of musicians that are more talented than she is, she just has the right people working with her and around her.
there is nothing unique about her, but the nature of pop music is not to be unique, so mission accomplished.

  21. BeeCee says:

    @original kate

You made me laugh out loud at work.

    Thanks <3

  22. DetRiotgirl says:

@Original Kate you made me laugh out loud too! First Harry and the Hendersons on the Speidi post and now this… Two thumbs up for Original Kate! Lol

Also, it’s a huge relief to see all the negative comments about Gaga on here. I really want her to just go away at this point. She is so very, very mediocre. I’m just over her completely.

@Love Angelina I always like reading your posts, even if I don’t agree. In so much as an anonymous internet poster can have personality, I would say you have a lot.

  23. @Fae, I’d have to agree. Well said.

  24. jade says:

Anyone else catch the title of the article, “Naked Came the Lady”? I think this is a jab at her, a take on the title of the book Naked Came the Stranger.

  25. girl says:

Are there people who actually think Paris Hilton is an artist?

  26. gem says:

@Fae wow the pack of 20 thing *claps* perfect comment

  27. HotPockets says:

Gaga tries so hard to stay relevant and interesting, not saying that she isn’t sometimes, but eventually people just wont care anymore.

It’s just like Megan Fox and her asinine comments to garner attention, it becomes insanely tiresome hearing that self loathsomeness in every interview.

Gaga needs to quit trying to be so controversial all the time, because it is becoming boring, and soon here career will just kind of plateau.

I think she is talented, but the girl has go to try something new to stay fresh.

  28. Nicki says:

As much as I love Gaga, she needs to disappear for a while.

Seriously. You can’t miss and appreciate someone if they won’t go away.

She’s run out of new material and has resorted to lame, cheap publicity like talking about drugs and Paris Hilton (whom I can’t stand, but that is neither here nor there: there are tons of photos and video of Gaga and Wonky hanging out together like BFFs. Hypocrite much?). She ought to take a year off, finish her g-d record, and then have a fabulous return.

  29. think-it's-required says:

Lady Gaga: “People who say they need drugs to be creative are full of sh-t”

coming from someone who doesn’t have a creative bone in her body…

  30. Chris says:

Anyone who feels threatened enough by Paris Hilton to attack in the media must be pretty insecure. She wouldn’t even rate a mention with people like Kathryn Bigelow or Kate Winslet.

  31. bethyboom says:

i used to like lady gaga with her first cd, but good god, the more that ho talks, the worse it gets. she needs to shut up, make her music, wear her sunglasses at night, and give her “interviews” to back alley dealers. they are the only “news sources” that care, cuz everyone cares when you buy an eightball a week for your one a year habit.

  32. itzbilehbitch says:

How does she not have a creative bone in her body whats all this hate about?… This girl is interesting shes full of talent she brings something new to the table people love her and her music.. And I can guarantee all of you haters sit in your car and bob your head to her catchy songs when you hear them on the radio.. Say what you want but she will be another music legend.. A blind man can see she has the “IT”

  33. MissVJJ says:

Her again? *Yawn*. Boring. No talent, hypocrite.

  34. Jenny says:

Maybe not, Caca, but we’ll need drugs to be convinced that you’re creative.

  35. LaToya says:

I admire Gaga, but I think if she genuinely wanted to be different, she would not take drugs. I mean, everypne in Hollywood does that. Don’t profess to be totally unique when you really are not. You don’t need drugs to bring out your imagination. Just focus…reading and watching different types of films help as well.
