The 2010 Emmys: The Open Post (updates)

LOS ANGELES, CA - AUGUST 25: Celebrity seating place cards are displayed during the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards press preview Day at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on August 25, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)

Sigh… CB and I debated a little about how best to cover this year’s Emmys (which most people have forgotten about), and here’s what we’ve decided: today, Sunday, we’re going to have this open post for all of you to talk about whatever Emmy-related observations you want in real time. I’ll be updating throughout the night with winners and losers and my take on interesting moments throughout the telecast. And then tomorrow, we’ll do a bunch of fashion posts and a “Hot Guy Awards: The Emmys” or “Hot Guy Emmys: the Awards” post. I’ll let you decide on the name. I can already predict that Hugh Laurie and Jon Hamm will make my list of Hot Guy Emmy Awards.

So, I’ll kick things off: who are you excited to see? What are you dreading? I’m excited to see the Mad Men people, of course, and I’m actually looking forward to Clooney & Canalis’ appearance. You know that will be some good gossip, and we should be able to determine in mere seconds whether of not Clooney is over her ass yet. As far as Emmy fashion… well, who are the Emmy girls who usually bring it? See… I can’t really think of one. You know Christina Hendricks is probably going to look like hell, just because no one ever knows how to style a pale, buxom redhead. It’s like stylists need their own Rosetta Stone to figure out where to start with her.

Anyway, to start things off, I just thought I’d show some of my favorite photos of some of my favorite Emmy boys, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, acting weird at the Emmys in years past. The photo of Colbert and Kanye is making my life, actually. The one of Colbert and Jason Jones is pretty righteous too.

PRE-RED CARPET UPDATE: Jesus, what will it take for E! to give Kristen Dos Santos her own show? She knows everything about television, and she would be far more entertaining than these Hills sluts.

RED CARPET UPDATES:
*Didn’t Kelly Osbourne look cute? She’s lost so much weight, and her hair is very pretty.
*ZOMG Ty Burrell’s wife’s dress was insane. She looked like a cat toy.
*Kill me now, because I loved Claire Danes’ pale, beaded/sequiny Armani.
*Wasn’t Kim Kardashian a really good red carpet interviewer? Why doesn’t she have that job? She asks all the right questions and she was surprisingly charming. You could tell La Seacrest was PISSED.
*Jane Lynch looks gorge! As does Lea Michele in de la Renta.
*God, I hate Eva Longoria. With a passion.
*Ricky Gervais looked cute, but JESUS CHRIST JON HAMM HAMM HAMM!!!!!!!! My God. The Hamm in Armani, there should be a law against that.
*January Jones looked like unkempt hell, right?
*I haven’t seen Christina Hendricks full dress yet, but I see lots of boobs and feathers. I’m terrified.
*Bryan Cranston looked cute. I don’t watch Breaking Bad so I have no strong opinion about him though.
*Ooooh… who caught Kate Gosselin’s bitchface on the red carpet? That sh-t was funny.
*Christina Hendricks didn’t look terrible in her Zac Posen. Also: could the camera be on her boobs any more? The camera guy was actually zooming in on them!
*Tina Fey made a rare fashion win in Oscar de la Renta.
*Heidi Klum’s dress was all kinds of wrong, as was Mindy Kaling’s.
*Stephen Moyer & Anna Paquin – cute, but not stellar. Anna seemed like she was phoning it in.
*The little boy from Modern Family is adorable!
*So… La Seacrest was trying to cruise Neal Patrick Harris, correct?
*Hugh Laurie & Steve Carrell are so cute! I love Nancy Walls too. I miss her.
*Kristen Dos Santos is knocked up again! Congrats!
*Juliana Marguilies looked “eh”. I likes Julie Louis-Dreyfus’s Narciso gown. She always wears Narciso, and it always works for her.
*I love Glenn Close and everything, but she didn’t look that great, right?
*I can’t help my overwhelming attraction to John Krasinski. I find him adorable.

Okay, Susan Sarandon just walked off before Guiliana had the chance to interview her, so the red carpet is winding down. I’ll update this post in a few hours with some of the winners and lowers, y’all!

**Note: George Clooney “won” the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award and gave a short speech. He didn’t walk the red carpet, from what I saw, and I didn’t see Elisabetta Canalis whatsoever. She was bragging everywhere about going to the Emmys with him. Did she get dumped? Was she there? Apparently, she was there, but she got very little camera time, which must have killed her.

  1. a says:

the daily show alumni seem very tan!

  2. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I am usually very into award season and I don’t know what happened. I just don’t give a f*ck. Well the Emmy’s always suck ass anyway, I don’t watch them anyway. My favorite award show is the Globes, the Golden Globes.

Thanks to you guys however I will be able to get some insight on the goings-on without having to watch the snoozefeast. I like to be in the loop. 😀

The only things I am really interested in is if True Blood takes home anything, I think I made a bet with some people on Claire Danes winning for Temple Grandin. I am pretty sure I have money on that. Thats about it.

  3. Rachel says:

Fingers crossed for Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler!

  4. The Hamm is My Dream Man says:

Ah, my Hamm. He’s so handsome and dashing and all that. I look forward to the camera cutting to him every so often to catch a smile or a laugh.

  5. LolaBella says:

I’m looking forward to the opening musical number. Supposedly Jane Lynch, The Hamm and Tina Fey are in it.

Love The Daily Show guys and Stephen Colbert.

  6. Jean says:

    @Rachel
    Yes!

  7. Solveig says:

I’m excited to see… the gowns, that’s the best I can do. I’m so bored with those awards that I’m not even rooting for Lost (which is my favourite tv show ever).

  8. Camille says:

I’m only interested in seeing members of the True Blood cast. Everything else, meh.

  9. kimmm says:

I’ll check out this site manana , I’m going to sleep early for school .

  10. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

Thank you for the Jon Hamm pics!

  11. Eden says:

    @Love Angelina
I’m with you on this one…not watching it, but thank you to Kaiser & CB for doing a live time thread!
It will be great to be able to pop in and read the commentaries and comments.

    @Love Angelina (again)

    “The Globes, the Golden Globes”
    🙂
    Dramatic!
    “Bond, James Bond.”

  12. lucy2 says:

I’m hoping for a few upsets (Connie and Kyle from FNL! Amy Poehler!) and also hoping Lost manages to pick up a few for their last season.
Looking forward to the fashion, and to the Hamm, of course. I’m a quality TV junkie, so the Emmys are always a mix of happiness and frustration for me. But at least there’s no Charlie Sheen, so that’s good!

  13. LOVE ANGELINA says:

LOL so I just saw this Tweet in my timeline:

Giuliana rancic looks great. She’s not wearing any foundation today as part of a partnership w/ @ddfskincare to promote healthy skin

OMG!!!! Is Giuliana really not wearing any foundation?!?!?! For an red carpet event?!?!? Does she look great?

  14. Kaiser says:

Love Angie – Guiliana is def. wearing foundation. She’s wearing a ton of makeup, like always. But she looks pretty!

  15. lucy2 says:

No foundation, yeah right! I think everyone who works for E (except Kristin) gets lined up and shot with one of those paint sprayers full of too tan makeup before each red carpet.
Ugh, I find Giuliana and Ryan SOOOO annoying. I’m letting the DVR run a little ahead so I can forward through their stupid chatter.

  16. xxodettexx says:

i LOVE jane lynch’s dress!!! so gorgeous!

  17. Camille says:

2 people I would be VERY happy to never see on the red carpet again: Ryan Seacrest and Kim Lardassian. Ugg.

  18. LolaBella says:

THE HAMM! THE HAMM! THE HAMM!!!! *SWOONS*

He looked so dapper in his tux.

  19. xxodettexx says:

@LolaBella: haha, i walked into the room and heard his voice and thought, wonder how the messageboard is handling the Hamm?? 🙂

  20. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I can’t imagine a TV personality NOT wearing makeup in the age where TVs are now HD. Thanks Kaiser and Lucy2 for letting me know. Oh and @dailymakeover on twitter tweeted that. lol.

I like Rutina Wesley’s look though. Her dress is not all that cute but she looks great.

  21. xxodettexx says:

ricky gervais!! bryan cranston!![sorry ladies, but its not only the hot that i swoon for, but the charmingly, goofy and funny too!]

    soo many gorgeous dresses…

  22. Jean says:

Lauren Graham looks super gorgeous, but her dress is a mess.

  23. Snarf says:

Emmy’s have me for 2hrs then it’s over to HBO for True Blood.

  24. Kaiser says:

The Hamm looked awesome! Love his hair like that. I want to punch Jennifer Westfeldt in the face, tho.

  25. LolaBella says:

I like Kate Gosselin’s dress, not feeling the lilac color of Christina Hendricks’ dress; it clashes horribly with her red hair.

Damn, Jennifer Whats-her-name is grabbing onto The Hamm really tightly; she better not let him out of her sight. 😉

OT: That J’Adore Dior ad with Charlize Theron strutting and getting nude is effin’ hot.

    ROSS THE INTERN!! So cute.

  26. Camille says:

Tina Fey looks lovely. Christina H’s interview with Ryan was awkward.

  27. Camille says:

Ahhhhh, LOVE Anna and Stephen. They both look gorgeous. I love hearing Anna’s Kiwi accent too, good to know it is hanging in there lol.

Hate Heidi’s dress. Way too short for this type of awards, would have been ok at an MTV event though.

  28. Jean says:

    Lea Michele’s dress is boring.
Not a fan of Tina Fey’s dress either.
Angela from The Office looks nice!

  29. Marjalane says:

Yeah right, Juliana “anorexic” Ransic not wearing foundation is a joke! There is no one more narcissistic and vapid than she- it kills me that she thinks all of AMerica is invested in her life choices. I don’t begrudge anyone wanting to have a baby, but she is an IDIOT to constantly blather about it on her dumb show.

  30. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Oooo Anna and Stephen do look good. I read they are both wearing McQueen. I wanna say Steve McQueen so bad but I am sure its Alexander McQueen. lol They look adorable but I am not feeling the fuzz on Stephen’s face.

  31. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Uhhh Zac Posen tweeted that dress Christina Hendricks is wearing (I am not watching the red carpet arrival I have to rely on people tweeting pics). First all I see is boobs and ugly sleeves and I love Zac Posen, WTH was he thinking? Not a flattering dress for Christina.

  32. Kaiser says:

Yes, Hendricks is wearing Posen. It’s not terrible, it’s just a hell of a lot of boobs.

  33. Jean says:

    That poor Springsteen song 😀

  34. Marjalane says:

Jon Hamm always looks like a poor man’s Hugh Jackman to me; Cute, but 2nd rate.

  35. Camille says:

I LOVE Betty White, girl crush.

Oh and Alex S in a tux, yummeh!

  36. Jean says:

I stand corrected, Lauren Graham’s dress looks better in motion.

  37. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Yay for Jane Lynch. Sadly I don’t watch Glee but Jane has been cracking me up in everything I have seen her in. Well in Julie and Julia she wasn’t funny but in some other movies she is a riot.

  38. Felicia says:

    Rita Wilson’s shoes? Anyone?

  39. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Finally someone other than the Amazing Race won. I love Top Chef to. Yay.

  40. Jean says:

Can Bryan Cranston please be in his own category next year? That way the others might stand a chance.
This makes me sad, I was hoping for a Kyle Chandler/Hugh Laurie win.

  41. xxodettexx says:

aaron paul won!!! i am so happy for him

    🙂

edit: i am running a bit behind on dvr but SO happy for cranston! such a brilliant show, breaking bad!

  42. oxa says:

If Guiliana Rancid really wanted a kid then she would eat enough to gain the weight needed to ovulate/carry a child.
Her skinny camera image is what is most important to her.

  43. Jean says:

Ugh, am done with the Emmy’s now.
    Good night everyone.

  44. CB Rawks says:

Sheldon!! Squee!! Sheldon won his Emmy!!
    Ahem. Happiness.

  45. lucy2 says:

yay for Eric Stonestreet and Jane Lynch! Wish the Lost guys would have won during their last chance, but oh well.
Love the dresses on: Jane Lynch, Kelly Osbourne (!), Claire Danes, Tina Fey, Angela Kinsey, Connie Britton, and especially Kyra Sedgwick’s, LOVE hers.
Amy Poehler looks amazing for having a baby 3 weeks ago!
Did not care for Lauren Graham’s, January Jones, Jewel, Dianna Argon (what has happened to C.Herrera designs?) or Christina Hendricks. Heidi Klum looked gorgeous, but that dress was way too short.

Someone should lock Kim K and Kate Gosslin in a bathroom or something during the break so they stay away from the people with actual talent.

The opening was great, especially Betty and the Hamm – back it up!

  46. LOVE ANGELINA says:

    Did Claire Danes win yet?

  47. LolaBella says:

    Well hello there Patrick Stewart.

  48. jane16 says:

So did Clooney & the gf walk the red carpet or what? No pix of them anywhere & no shots of her in audience when he gave his speech.

  49. Tess says:

Just tuned in. Gawd. Another cluster f*ck snoozefest brought to us by a gaggle of awesomely self impressed, pleased-as-punch, semi-talents.

Wish Joel of Talk Soup had more air time.

The barely coherent Wanda Sykes just on. Ugh. George Clooney (purchaser of Senator John Heintz-Kerry’s Lake Como pleasure palace) up soon. He’s a “dear friend” of presenter Julianna Margolies. He wins the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.

    LOL. Signing off now.

  50. LOVE ANGELINA says:

What did George Clooney give a speech for? Was he nominated?

  51. hmm says:

Oh man, the guys from Lost were robbed. Michael Emerson, Terry O’Quinn, and Matthew Fox…you were awesome.

  52. jane16 says:

Love Ang, he was given the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his humanitarian work. Wasn’t nominated for anything.

  53. teri says:

So happy that Sheldan from Big Bang Theory won, FINALLY. I like Jim Parsons and like the show.

  54. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Ah Thank you Jane16 and thanks for the update Kaiser.

If Claire Danes wins I gotta know because I got money on this. LOL. Julia Ormond winning is good sign. I hope.

Ooooo Yea. Someone else from Temple Grandin won. Claire Danes better be win next.

  55. Vibius says:

Im sorry but Id rather watch a preseason NFL game then an award show. These circle jerks are just boring. We’ve been checking in during commercials, and Jimmy Fallon has been as bad as youd expect him to be. I understand Zucker wants the guy to replace Leno eventually, but he just isnt funny.

  56. Melissa says:

January Jones looks amess – looks like she didn’t brush her hair, and what an awful dress! I also hate Anna Paquin’s dress – she looks like a female gladiator! I’m no Hamm fan (I like him, just not enough to watch Mad Men!), but wow, his girlfriend was all over him on the red carpet and wouldn’t shut up – seems a little desperate!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus always looks great, and always wears great jewelry. Kyra Sedgwick and Lea Michele looked nice, too (although Lea looks a tad too pleased with herself). And Sofia Vergara.

Oh, and I know I’ll be in the minority on this, but I’m totally over Christina Hendricks only wearing dresses where her tits are falling out. And I’m not saying this b/c I’m jealous – I’m a DD. But c’mon, lady! She must feel like she has nothing else going for her, and if she feels that way, maybe she’s right.

  57. CA says:

@Kaiser – Yes Elisabetta was there looking boring and stupid in a boring and stupid white dress…she was on the backstage cam while they were in the green room. Rickey Gervais was there, he told a joke, George started laughing and when he looked to see if she got it she fake laughed…it was kind of incredible…

  58. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Holy Sh*t yes!!!!!!!!! Claire Danes fu*king won!!!! Let me just explain this bet. 3 A holes I watch TV/movies with made a bet that Claire Danes wouldn’t do a sweep of award season. I think Claire will do a sweep. They think I am such a know it all, well hell do I know it all or what!!!! HA!!!! So now I think I have 2 more to go. Screen Actors Guild Awards and The Golden Globes. Claire is totally gonna sweep I can feel.

  59. kismet says:

much props to Lawrence Fishburne for making an appearance despite all the hubbub going on with his daughter.

  60. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Oh Snap Laurence Fishburne was there? He is on a TV Show now. I forget which one. Was he a presenter?

  61. Bee says:

Yay! I’m so happy Mad Men won for the third year in a row. God, I love that show. Long live “The Hamm.”

  62. Lucy says:

    Long live the Hamm indeed.

A little sad that 30 Rock didn’t win best comedy. Oooh Tina Fey. I’d hit that, twice.

  63. la chica says:

    Jersey Shore wuz robbed!!!!

    j/k.

Fallon tanned a tad too much. but he wasn’t awful.

  64. hmm says:

Kinda bummed that Lost didn’t win anything.

Oh well. I’ve come to the fascinating realization that I haven’t seen 99.9% of what is on television today. I’m actually feeling really good about that. Now if only I could get back the last 3 hours of my life.

  65. lucy2 says:

I love Mad Men too, but I’m sad Lost didn’t go out with a win.
Happy that Modern Family won, and kind of glad Glee didn’t – I like Glee a lot and it’s fun to watch, but there’s no way, IMO, that it’s the best overall comedy on TV.
First time in ages 30 Rock got shut out – a little sad for them because I do love the show and it’s hilarious, but they’ve won a lot in years past so it’s OK. I do hope eventually Jane Krakowski wins for her role as Jenna.

  66. mike says:

I’m totally bummed out that the Good Wife failed to win anything major. I really thought it was better than Mad Men and Juliana Margoulis was heads above everyone.

    >_<

    Sigh

  67. dovesgate says:

Hmmm. True Blood lost to a bunch of stuff I don’t even watch (they wuz ROBBED!!!! :P). I think I might have to set my DVR to try a new show or two…

  68. Andrea says:

I’m glad Aaron Paul won. And Edie Falco. And The Pacific!

  69. LondonLady says:

the good wife and damages are amazing shows, cannot belelive they keep loosing out to MM. Just shows the gender imbalance in Emmy voting- MM is really slow and not that great, at all. Its hardly drama in the same way these other shows are

  70. bored says:

Kaiser, Clooney and the girlfriend didn’t walk the red carpet, stayed backstage all night and have skipped the after parties. Whilst he was getting his award, E Online has stated that she was busy backstage drinking champagne and texting on her phone.

  71. Erin says:

Sorry bored but honestly Elisabetta Canalis did not look that bored back stage and was not texting. You cn check it out here:
    http://www.emmys.com/backstage-live

  72. Majosha says:

@Andrea: I totally agree about Aaron Paul. He’s incredible on “Breaking Bad” and so is Bryan Cranston. Still the best show on TV, in my opinion.
