Julia Roberts Oprah-farts about her “passion” still being “vibrant”

Julia Roberts sat down for a pretty decent interview with The Telegraph (UK), to promote Eat, Pray, Love. As of this very moment, I have only been able to get through half of the piece because I’m stuck on this one quote: “It was an endeavor that took me away from my home life so I was proud that that passion was still vibrant in me.” Yes, Julia is farting about her own vibrancy. And she’s saying that making Eat, Pray, Love reaffirmed her own vibrant passion. Are you rolling your eyes yet? Oh, you’ve got to love Julia. The full Telegraph piece is here, and here are some highlights:

On her free time: “I don’t have the luxury of sitting around any more,” she says. “I must have had bags of spare time before I had children but I don’t know what I did with it and I didn’t appreciate it. But it’s such a terrific trade-off – I don’t have time to get a pedicure but I sure am happy. Who cares if your feet look bad?”

On her family life: “Of course my life has changed and I don’t work a lot, so I get a lot of that special time for us to just nurture and cultivate our everyday life and the things we take enjoyment in. But I was never really one to work too much, anyway. I never really did years of movie after movie after movie.”

On her “commitment” to Eat, Pray, Love: “For me to make that personal commitment to do that much work and travel to all those places, not alone but with 150 crew and my whole family, really shows how much I still love what I do… It was an endeavour that took me away from my home life so I was proud that that passion was still vibrant in me. The scope is so massive that it was more work than I would normally want to be doing but I was excited about trying to portray my character’s real passion for her life, and for the people in it and for the places she goes to. When it was finished I was really exhausted but I loved every second of it.”

Relating to the spiritual journey: “I can certainly relate to what she has gone through and there are things in the movie which everybody can relate to: trying to clarify your life and understand your own compass for where you want to go and who you want to be. These are things we all go through and I think you sort of fine tune it every decade of your life: in your twenties, then in your thirties, and then you redefine it again in your forties and fifties.”

Needing to hit the “reset” button: “I used to take off on a vacation every year by myself as sort of a reset button to sit and evaluate what had gone by, to read a great book, maybe get a sun tan and, you know, just collect myself. It’s important to do that. You don’t necessarily have to travel, but just take the time for yourself to exhale.”

On doing Broadway: “That’s a hard place to be, on stage eight times a week. It’s relentless, but it’s also magical and amazing. I would absolutely do it again, for sure.”

On her own spirituality: “You never stop pursuing greater understanding of yourself and the world, and how you relate to people and how people relate to you. That has to keep moving. It’s a definite aspect of my family life and more than anything else, a constant sense of gratitude is really the spiritual foundation of my daily life. I’m so grateful for everything… my family, all the opportunities I’ve had, the enriching relationships. Just everything.”

So she didn’t come across like a sanctimonious bitch in this interview, which is kind of disappointing. I prefer Julia when she’s being a bitch, honestly. She’s more fun! I dislike the Oprahified Julia where she’s farting about spirituality this and vibrancy that. BORING. You know that’s just what she says to pass the time before she bitches someone out. THAT’S SO TACKY.

yawn..I like the bitchy Julia Roberts too.

  2. Charissa says:

That first picture of her in that caftan thing really sums up her craziness perfectly.

  3. Riley says:

I hate New Ageism and I hate even more when celebrities spout New Agey BS. Julia fought so hard to steal her white bread husband from A Low Vera and then when she got him she turned into a real New Agey snooze. I live in a town with plenty of rich white women who are questioning why they do not feel fulfilled in their lives and so they turn to aholes like Deepak Chopra for answers. Julia sounds a lot like one of these women. BBBOOOOORRRRRIIIINNNGGG.

  4. danielle says:

“You never stop pursuing greater understanding of yourself and the world, and how you relate to people and how people relate to you.” I find that statement to be profoundly self obsessed.

  5. lucy2 says:

Let me just say, the more I read from and about her, the more I realize how perfectly suited she was to that role in that movie – and that’s not a compliment to either.

  6. Stronzilla says:

“But I was never really one to work too much, anyway. I never really did years of movie after movie after movie.”

what? Bewteen 1987-2010 she has cranked out at least 1-2 films a year! She’s a war machine when it comes to filming.

  7. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named says:

    she has a pretty mane.

  8. Lady Jane says:

She is still pretty. If she has done anything with her face, it is very subtle, and I can’t help but like her. She will always be Vivian, the hooker with a heart, to me. She is smug, but I like the fact that she did things like go to the Oscars with long armpit hair. Gross but endearing and a little kooky.

  9. Juice in LA says:

I only read this because you said “fart” and “Vibrancy” in the same sentence. Otherwise, everything that seems to come out of Ms. Roberts mouths sounds like a shart…

  10. The Bobster says:

I never realized how crooked her nose is. Or was it just out of joint for that photo?

  11. Catherine says:

I have more respect for her if she is a New Age nut compared to some hard core bible beater.

  12. original kate says:

    bored now.

  13. artista says:

That is a total Oprah fart, good call.

  14. Kiska says:

I like how she somehow reminds us how special she is because she gave birth to three human beings. It happens all the time, Julia!

  15. hellen says:

Take every Oprah-farty word plus every New Age self-help/personal realization buzzword, mix them all up in the deluded blender of Julia’s mind, and you will get that interview. I have never heard so many empty words add up to such a huge pile of blather.

  16. Leticia says:

    @RILEY, right on!

  17. hmm says:

she sounds like she’s trying to emulate an educated person who uses profound, deep words.

    ps. it’s not working.

  18. paprika says:

She’s bitching abt other actressed who made movie after movie after movie. She’s forgotten that she also spent lots of time away from her family with her stage performances. Really, no different from Gywneth Paltrow who did lots of movies after starting her family but all went under the radar with their less than impressive performance and hoping that we did not notice their desperate comeback.

  19. Jeri says:

And one of these days she’ll get a divorce and act like none of this ever happened (I don’t mean the kids, just the life is so perfect blah). She’s good at ignoring her lapses.

  20. paprika says:

She’s bitching abt other actresses (aniston? Bullock? witherspoon?) who made movie after movie after movie. She’s forgotten that she also spent lots of time away from her family with her stage performances. Really, no different from Gywneth Paltrow who did lots of movies after starting her family but all went under the radar with their less than impressive performance and hoping that we did not notice their desperate comeback.

  21. The Privileged Elite says:

Well, there’s a reason it’s called “Eat, Pray, Preen”. The ultimate in Privlit. She’s a perfect example of the Privlit audience.

  22. Tiffany says:

So she is still promoting the hell out of this movie, so it is safe to assume that it is not doing well at the box office. This much international press is not a good sign. The movie cost what $100 million to produce and that is not counting marketing. I guess it is a good thing that she ask for money up front, and I can bet that Brad Pitt’s production company will no be ‘saving’ her anymore.

  23. Rosanna says:

How I like when I see everybody lashing out at her because she’s pretty, happy and fulfilled. When she was a sad bitch everybody was on her side ROTFL

  24. Cirque28 says:

Remember when she was on Oprah saying that she and Benjamin Bratt woke up every day “drunk with love?” Oprah was kinda like, “No effing way,” but Julia insisted! B/c her life is just so glorious! I think they broke up soon after that.

And while I’m snarking, that top caftan photo: BOTOX. Trying so hard to make a facial expression but it comes out kinda off. (It’s still fairly subtle Botox. For Hollywood.)

  25. crazydaisy says:

what a complainer. personally, i would not find it a great sacrifice to get to fly to new york, italy, india and indonesia with my entire family, all expenses paid, so i could act in a movie with javier bardem and be pampered all the day long. maybe it’s just me. it just doesn’t sound like a pride-worthy accomplishment to feel vibrant and passionate about that lifestyle, hel-lo.

  26. Seer says:

Julia is a legend in her own mind. She stole somebody else’s husband and expects her life to be glorious? Karma’s a bitch baby.

  27. Messenger says:

I watched part of that Oprah interview. I think she feels trapped and it’s way too late to do anything about it. Marriage (and children) is not for everyone. Be careful what you ask for, you just may get it. and have to live with it.

  28. Mrs Odie 2 says:

I’m with Julia. Working is not something I enjoy or like to do much of. Sadly, I’m not a millionaire. So, off to work I go…

  29. frewt says:

Its an oprah-frt for sure but its not a sincere oprah fart which makes it all the more nauseating. She’s a bonefide husband stealing, sanctimonious, egotistical bitch and no amount of new agey speil will disguise that fact.

  30. Mouse says:

What a pretentious, plastic, boring, self absorbed asshole this woman is. If there is any justice in the world, karma will kick her cellulite ridden ass to the curb.
