Lauren Graham calls relationship with Peter Krause ‘so easy’

I’m really sad that True Blood and Hung are ending this week, but there are plenty of shows I love whose fall seasons are about to premiere, particularly Parenthood, which premieres next Tuesday and partially Vampire Diaries, which premieres tonight! (I say partially as the end of VD’s first season was totally far fetched, but what isn’t about that show?) Parenthood’s troubled single mom, Lauren Graham, 43, is Redbook’s October cover girl. People Magazine has some advance excerpts from her interview and she dishes on her relationship with her co-star, the swoon-inducing Peter Krause, 45. She tells a really cute story about how shy and respectful he was on their first sort-of date 15 years ago, and how he didn’t make a move on her way back then. Things have progressed quite a bit since, with Peter and Lauren re-connecting once they met on set again last year. Lauren calls their relationship “so easy.” I like both of them on that show and I’m hoping for their sake (and for the show’s!) that it works out for them.

laurenredbookFifteen years ago, Lauren Graham and Peter Krause bonded over board games when the actress first moved to Los Angeles.

Today, Graham 43, and her Parenthood co-star, 45, are diving into something a bit more serious: a relationship.

“One of the things that’s been so fun is that it’s so easy,” Graham says in the October issue of Redbook magazine. “It’s a lot, to work with somebody and spend time with them, too.”

Graham, who says she and Krause “clearly had a connection” when they first met, blames timing and shyness for originally keeping them apart.

“I think we liked each other [but] he asked me over to his house to play a board game – and that’s exactly what we ended up doing,” she says. “So I was like, ‘This guy doesn’t like me. Who actually plays a board game?’… The timing wasn’t right. I don’t think either of us was ready.”

She adds: “He’s obviously a very confident, appealing guy, but he’s shy, and so am I.”

Unlike many Hollywood couples, Graham and Krause have managed to keep their relationship out of the spotlight.

“Nobody knew about it for awhile, because we like to be at home, cooking and not going out,” the former Gilmore Girls actress explains. “I’ve also been really protective of it, because it’s important that you can buy us as brother and sister on the show.”

Although there is no predicting where Graham’s relationship with Krause will lead, she does say she would like to settle down someday.

“I would like to be part of a family, however that looks,” she says. “Family is really important to me.”

That’s really nice! I love that part where she said “I would like to be part of a family, however that looks.” Krause has a nine year-old son from a former relationship and maybe that’s partially what she meant. As negative as this is to say, though, I hope she didn’t jinx anything by talking about her relationship to the press! Krause doesn’t seem like the type who is easily spooked, but you never know as guys can be weird about that sort of thing. Hopefully everything will continue to be easy and romantic for the two of them. I know she’s worried about it affecting viewer’s perception of their brother-sister relationship, but there’s so much stuff going on in that show that it’s hard to get distracted by any one plotline.

Now if only Lauren could get a good stylist. Her dress at the Emmys made a lot of worst dressed lists, which is a shame because she’s so lovely and nice.

    Lucky girl.

  2. geenie says:

I recently saw my old Six Feet Under collection and I was reminded what a great actor Peter is. He’s hot in a next-door guy kind of way.

  3. Teri says:

I can’t decide who is the luckier one in the relationship… I’m going with Peter though as Lauren is loveliness personified.

  4. TQB says:

Count me as one of the people who had no idea they were a thing. I’ve loved Krause since Sports Night, and since every time I look at Graham all I can think of is her riding Billy Bob Thornton in a hot tub and screaming “F*#k me Santa, F*&K me Santa!”, she’s OK in my book.

  5. Jean says:

She’ll always be Lorelai to me.
She was magnificent in that role, I hope everything works out for her.

  6. kelbear says:

    I agree with Jean

  7. Team Bethenny says:

A Hollywood actor dating a woman his own age?? Color me shocked…

  8. Maritza says:

They are a lovely couple, I hope they get married one day and live happily ever after.

  9. lucy2 says:

I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Gilmore Girls, and I like him too. I hope it works out well for them!
I watched the first episode of Parenthood but sort of forgot about it after that. Since it got renewed and is supposed to be good, maybe I’ll catch up on DVD.

they are a cute couple – good for them!

  11. mln says:

I love him from Six Feet Under and I like her alot too eventhough I was never into her show but they look like a good couple I hope it works for them.

  12. Rachel says:

I’m so glad you mentioned the premiere of VD! I would have missed it, and that would have been very sad indeed. Mmm, Ian Somerholder.

  13. Stephie says:

I agree with Jean. (where’s Rory!??)
I like the show though, just hope knowing their an item doesn’t change anything. I’m not on the “he’s hot” bandwagon, his character is a little annoying. And Lauren seems to lapse into Lorelei (that speed talking stuff) from time to time. I think it compares a bit with Brothers & Sisters, all the arguing. I hope there’s less arguing and more other stuff this season.

  14. Mrs Odie 2 says:

I think I, too, could find it “so easy” to date Peter Krause. Yummy.

  15. Bee says:

Mmm Ian Somerhalder indeed. I will have my butt glued to the TV tonight watching the premiere of the Vampire Diaries as well. I haven’t watched Parenthood yet, but the wonderful Mr. Krause might lure me in. Oh Nate, I still love you.

  16. Amy says:

Aren’t the actors from the show Dexter married and also play siblings on the show? I don’t think their real life relationship will detract from the portrayal of siblings on Parenthood. I don’t watch the show but I did occasionally watch Gilmore Girls and thought Lauren was adorable on it.

  17. Jane Q. Doe says:

I think for her to even mention their relationship, much less discuss it in detail, must mean they’re quite serious. The Graham has always been pretty quiet about the dating stuff. They seem to be a nicely matched (and lovely-looking!) couple, so best wishes. Although it does get a little odd when their characters have unintended sexual tension on the show!

  18. mooncake says:

I cry at every Parenthood episode.

  19. Mel says:

Aww…the lovely Lauren, so happy for her.

Absolutely gutted we don’t get Parenthood over here in the UK. I’m always looking out to see if its coming. I miss LG.

  20. Catherine says:

Loved her as Lorelai and love her in Parenthood. I wish her the best.

  21. LondonLady says:

she looks amazing in that dress, i didnt even recognise her. Takes 10 years off

  22. Kiska says:

I absolutely adore Lauren Graham and Peter Krause. The fact that they found each other again is so beautiful. I truly wish them both happiness. They are both two of my favourite celebs yet they both come across so down to earth.

  23. Camille says:

Love her, she is so pretty and a good actress too. I love the pics of her in the white pants suit. I hope everything works out great for her.

  24. Loren says:

she is way too hot for him

  25. Ro says:

no one has pointed out that she is dating her brother! ok well TV brother… kinda weird haha

  26. Heather says:

awww it’s cute that they had crushes on each other 15 years ago and are just now acting on it.

  27. Shanna says:

Hold up. I hate to bear bad news for the Graham lovers here. But as someone who worked in the makeup department on several Lauren Graham projects.. I assure you she is neither lovely or sweet. Ask around. I promise. Lovely and sweet belong nowhere near this horrid ingrate. I am so serious.

That said, Peter Krause IS lovely and sweet, professional to boot, beyond anyone’s wildest expectations. I promise.

I never comment on boards of this nature, but this post made me scream the truth as I and several others (trust me) have experienced this girl’s nightmare behavior.

My apologies if this comment offends. Cheers to the happy couple.

  28. albeli says:

So cute! And I love the show.

  29. machiavelli says:

Dear Bee: If you glue your butt to the tv, it will be difficult to watch the show.
He he – I am being silly. 🙂

  30. Gigohead says:

For some reason I thought he was married or living with someone and had a young child. Maybe I’m wrong.

  31. Mrs Odie 2 says:

I met Peter Krause at a bar in Toluca Lake a few months after SFU premiered. I told him I loved the show, and he was gracious, but DID seem quite shy. Maybe it was the way I was drooling all over him.

  32. la chica says:

this is such PR BS intended only to promote their show. it’s the Aniston approach — just keep putting out those fake relationships that miraculously coincide with Hollyweird projects. such BS. and ppl keep falling for it. no wonder the media keeps feeding us half-truths and delusions.

  33. chasingadalia says:

I’m just going to put it out there:

I hate it when people comment on articles about how they’ve worked with someone, and oh, they’re really rude and nasty.

Talk to your other co-workers about it, because you’re ruining every show I love by telling me what bitches my favourite actresses are.

  34. sauvage says:

I am SO HAPPY for them! Love them both.

  35. Chris says:

The craw? Not the craw, the Krause.

  36. Maud says:

I too have heard that LG is humorless at best; I think her ‘people’ have bent over backwards to cover it up so she could get work after GG. The rumours are always quickly squashed, but where there’s smoke….

  37. Lynda says:

I wouldn’t work with Peter Krause…I’d WORK IT…best chest around…would make me swoon on 6 feet under. (and poor Dexter always gets the situations with dead Dads.)

  38. Kiska says:

    @ Shanna

Well if she is nasty and humourless, then she is a damn fine actress and deserves a freakin’ Oscar. I’ve seen her in interviews and she is hilarious, sweet and genuine.

  39. rossana colombiana says:

awwwwwww O M G , i have no idea she had a boyfriend .. my ideal and loved perry – graham family is soooo far now.. =(, but anyway she deserves to be happy and have her kids.. it´s time now =D .. we love her here in Colombia !!!

  40. katy says:

    @Kiska

Maybe both you and Shanna are right and she’s hilarious, sweet, charming and “genuine” with some people or when she needs to be and not so nice to others. She wouldn’t be the first person in the history of the world to have two sides. I have heard a lot of reports of BOTH her good and bad sides. She’s just human after all and most people aren’t just black or white.
