Diane Lane’s two events: always a classic, or she needs a new look?

You know I think highly of Diane Lane, right? I think she’s beautiful and talented and grounded and cool. I admire her career and her lack of pretension. She hasn’t been working that much lately, but she’s got a family-friendly movie coming out called Secretariat. It’s like Seabiscuit, only with Lane in the Jeff Bridges role, I think. Disney produced it, and something tells me this is a film that lots of dads will be taking their daughters to. Dads will like it because it’s got Diane Lane. Girls will like it because it’s got horses, and probably a dose of feminism. Anyway, the premiere was last night, and I am underwhelmed by Diane’s style. To give her (some) credit, she does tend to change up her red carpet style year by year, so it’s not like she always looks the same.

I think it’s the hair that’s messing me up. Maybe it’s too dark? No, that’s not it – she looks nice with darker hair. I think it’s just the absence of any real hair style. It looks like she didn’t even care. But the dress is nice.

Diane and her husband Josh were also at the Variety Women’s Power luncheon earlier yesterday. I totally prefer this look – hair is better, and the dress pops. Maybe Diane was just flummoxed at having to be styled for two different events on the same day?

Oh, well. At least Diane and Josh look totally solid. I love that he was her “date” for a women’s luncheon. I bet he had a great time!

She really should go lighter, rather than darker in the hair department. And the LBD is really doing nothing for her. That said, she’s beautiful.

  2. fizXgirl314 says:

nope, always a classic… she just seems like such a natural to me. She doesn’t have these weird red carpet poses, she doesn’t have tons of surgery and botox, she isn’t bone thin… she just seems so natural and confident and awesome and in great shape… I totally wanna be her when I grow up 🙂

  3. Overit says:

She is just fabulous, elegant, low-key but very sexy – Josh Brolin is a very luck guy….

  4. Arianna says:

    has she had work done?
lo and behold it actually looks good though

that black dress seems a bit kiddish or something but it’s not that flattering.
    still love her!

  5. Kitten says:

She is beautiful. Josh Brolin is really repulsive to me. I’m not sure why…..

  6. JM says:

I think she looks elegant and is following in Helen Mirren’s footsteps. Both are natural beauties who chose not to go the plastic route.

  7. Tess says:

I think her hair’s much too dark—and needs lowlights or highlights or something. It just sits there like a shroud around her head.

The second dress much better. Black will be harsh on her with that solid brunette mop framing her face.

I think a little more blush and lipstick color would help, too.

whats with all the question headlines

  9. Praise St. Angie! says:

she is STILL gorgeous, after all these years. I would like her hair a little bit more red, though.

but other than that…what fizXgirl314 said!

  10. photo jojo says:

Diane Lane can do no wrong.

  11. liz says:

Leave her alone. She will always be classic

  12. MeMyself says:

Agree with other posters, the color is just a tad too dark.
    But gorgeous!

She still looks youthful, even at middle age.

  13. Sassy says:

Love her! She’s so beautiful but I agree – she needs to not go so dark in the hair color dept.

  15. Team Bethenny says:

It’s the hair. Definitely. Should have put it up, Hepburn-like, with the black dress.

  16. Kat says:

I had the chance to meet Diane back in 1998 when I was a kid. She was filming a movie on my street, and the whole neighbourhood came out to watch.

She was the most wonderful and sweet person, who took time with each person there to chat and take pictures. She took me aside asked me, as a 10 year old, what I wanted to do when i grew up.She gave me a great pep talk about how she was told that acting would never pan out and that it was an industry dominated by men, but that she refused to believe that. It was a really wonderful celebrity encounter, and i swear I will always look up to her and respect her because of that.

  17. Diane says:

I think her hubby could take hair lessons from her.

  18. lola lola says:

She’s gorgeous, classy and really can do no wrong. A truly beautiful woman who isn’t trying to look like a littel girl. More power to her!

  19. L says:

I LOVE Secretariat. Such a amazing horse (and finished 35th on ESPN’s 100 greatest athletes list)

  20. Anti-icon says:

Diane Lane is beautiful. I wish she’d leave her husband, that’s the look that will bring back her old radiance. She deserves better. And she’s the one with the talent.

  21. LBees says:

God, he’s so manly. Look at that ‘tache. Love it!

He’s luck to have such a classy, beautiful woman, and she is lucky to have such a… uh, hottie. (And he is a nice guy, don’t worry I thought of something.)

Plus, god bless them for dating in their age-range.

  22. danielle says:

A very beautiful woman. But I think that hair is too dark.

  23. SammyHammy says:

She’s lovely, but she really needs to get rid of that hideous husband of hers. He detracts from her more than anything else.

  24. Bodhi says:

Pfft, Josh Brolin is HAWT! They are clearly very happy together. I think she looks wonderful, other than the too-dark hair

  25. LindyLou says:

I think she looks great with darker hair. She’s gorgeous. Her husband, however, I do not find at all attractive. His head is HUGE!!! It freaks me out!

  26. womanfromthenorth says:

Oh lordy I am a old bitch!

I can sooo remember her movie “A Little Romance” in 79′.. I was 20. She was great and I knew then she would still be around. If you have never seen it, do so.

    She is still a beauty!

  27. Lisa says:

Did you notice her eye color in the last picture. The left eye looks brown while the other one is blue, or is it the flash?

  28. George says:

This woman sets the standard by which all other women are judged.

  29. tracking says:

Maybe the bow? I don’t know..anyway she could wear a potato sack and still look gorgeous.

  30. luna says:

I’ve always liked her but every time I see commercials for her new movie, all I can think is ‘Wow, what a terrible name for a movie’. Her dress is ok but I prefer her with red hair.

  31. RHONYC says:

growing up the perception was that she was the poor man’s brooke shields.

definitely more sensual & grittier than brooke.

i’ve like her since ‘street of fire’ (i know i’m lame).

she has definitely aged way better than brooke and still has her sex appeal, albeit tone-down and more age appropriate. she’s a classic for sure! 🙂

  32. original kate says:

such a lovely woman and a great actress. nice to see she has had minimal work done, if any.

  33. Tredd says:

She’s lovely! And while I agree with that she should go lighter on her hair (vs. quite so dark), how refreshing is it to see a woman in Hollyweird NOT nipped, tucked and sucked to the point of being unrecognizable?! Bravo, Diane!

  34. PrettyTarheel says:

@ Luna, are you talking about Secretariat? Or another movie? Cuz Secretariat was an awful name for a horse, but they couldn’t really change the name for the movie…

  35. Jeri says:

I’m a big Diane fan. I’ve seen her looking lots better but she’s always beautiful.

  36. Conando says:

She’s lovely and can do no wrong.

  37. LolaBella says:

    She’s a classic and beautiful.

I think it’s that weird ‘almost side-part’ of her hair that’s throwing me off. Other than that I like both these looks.

  38. benny says:

Agree with LolaBella – The ONLY thing I don’t like is the position of her hair’s part in the first couple of photos. Other than that, she looks great!

  39. Madison says:

I don’t think she’s had work done to her face. Diane always looks good. Great actress, she’s classic just like some of her movies, A Little Romance back when she was 14, Diane is one of the few child stars who made it.

  40. Guest says:

Diane is, as usual, gorgeous, but I never noticed before how great her feet are.

  41. dj says:

Classic. I remember reading an interview she gave about her eyes. I think it was an accident where she got hit in the eye with a ball and now one of the pupils is larger than the other.

  42. Mistral says:

    Classic

  43. whitedaisy says:

Holy crap, people. She is ON something.

Both of her pupils are huge and should be pinpoints with all of those lights and flashes going on. I am not saying that it is illegal, it could well be prescription; but something is in her system. (And I like her!) Just saying….

  44. Ruffian9 says:

Diane, don’t change a damn thing.

  45. jemshoes says:

There’s something about Diane that reminds me of another classy lady: Annette Bening. Their looks are similar: simple, clean lines, understated yet strong.

  46. DrM says:

I really like the black dress I think it looks fab…and the hair is fine…a little lighter would be nice as well but nothing wrong with the brunette!

  47. Woodsy says:

It’s cool that her face doesn’t look jacked. She has classic style, but she always seems to look the same. I think a new haircut and maybe a slightly lighter hair color, would be awesome. She has a gorgeous face, why not do a pixie cut or a chin length bob?

  48. Crash2GO2 says:

LOL @luna! Secretariat was the name of the greatest horse athlete ever to have raced! (I’m not laughing at you, I thought your comment was cute). 😀

  49. Dannnii says:

She’s lovely and knows what cut of dress to wear for her trim figure and her age.

  50. Camille says:

I like the first look on her best. Love her hair, love her dress, love her make up. She looks gorgeous and sexy without being OTT or not age appropriate.
The 2nd look she looks washed out and blah (but still pretty, just not as pretty).
