Remember Lara Flynn Boyle from Twin Peaks and The Practice? We haven’t seen much of her in years, and when we have seen her she’s looked so different from when she first got famous that it’s hard to recognize her. Lara was known for being very thin and tiny, but when we saw her in 2008 and again this year her face was so puffy it looked like she might have a medical condition. Many speculated that she might have had bad plastic surgery or injectables gone wrong, and that could have been part of it, but it looked to me like she was on steroids that were affecting her appearance.
Anyway Lara is coming back, in a way, with a reality pilot for E! It may got optioned for a series, but it sounds like it’s just a one-off to see if people are interested at this point. Deadline Hollywood has the details:
E! is looking to expand its slate of celebreality with a docu-reality series starring actress Lara Flynn Boyle. The cable network has greenlighted a pilot presentation for the project, which will follow the Practice alumna as she splits her time between her life in Texas and her marriage to real estate investor Donald Ray Thomas II and her Hollywood-centric lifestyle in Bel Air. Boyle, who is repped by Fortitude and Rugolo Entertainment, is currently meeting with potential showrunners. E!’s celebrity-driven reality series include mega-hit Keeping Up with the Kardashians and its spinoff Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami as well as Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane on sister channel Style.
I don’t know much about Lara and can’t judge whether she’s interesting or not. I am curious about what happened with her, though, and if she is suffering from some kind of medical condition. I’m sure I’ll find out even without watching this show, so I’m not motivated to bother at this point. Unless she has 15 kids, confronts her husband’s mistress for a hair-pulling fight, gets bikini waxes on camera or shows herself before and after a facelift, I can’t see this show getting much interest. The reality show market is pretty crowded right now and no-names with half a brain cell are proving more popular than has beens.

I worked with her on The Practice. She was honestly very freindly and nice to work with as I was very new to town then. She was rail thin then and she ate regularly with the rest of the cast, so there wasn;t an eating disorder I could see. I have to admit the lips kind of scare me here. I hope things work out for her regardless of the show.

Wow – I didn’t recognize her. Looking at her legs in the first picture, it still looks like she’s skeletal and anorexic. I think this is why the puffiness in her face is so jarring. Whatever happened (and yes I’ll feel badly if its MS steroids or something), this woman isn’t new to torturing her body.
Yikes-talk about someone who has gone through some pretty hazardous changes to her body. I’m with Danni above-maybe she does have an undisclosed disease.
Remember how long it took for Kathleen Turner to disclose she had rheumatoid arthritis (that was before the days of the miraculous Imitrex, so she was on corticosteroids, too)?
The only thing that reminds me that it’s her are her pretty eyes and charming freckles in the last few pics.
This looks more than plastic surgery. This looks like something is wrong with her. She looks stiff and in pain. I’m curious to see if she does infact have a medical condition.
Just a Poster: ITA. I liked her when she was all crazy in love with Jack. I’m upset she’s married. I was hoping she was still boning Jack evey now & again. Not to say that she isn’t. I think she must have a medical condition b/c chubby cheeks like that would call for a lawsuit from a skinny minnie like her.

I agree with steriods. I just finished a round of steriods and my face looks like that. I am normally thin but everytime I take steriods I get all puffy and swollen.
I also worked on Twin Peaks she was very sweet and beautiful.. still is I think.
WHY would someone with actual talent decide to do a reality show?? Oh, probably for the same reason that a woman who’s great talent was so great as to be recognized at a young age (she was 19 on Twin Peaks) would feel the need to jack up her face and body for 20 years. So sad, she’s a great actor, all this crazy was so unnecessary.

I don’t watch any realty shows but you can’t help but hear what’s happening on most of them. We all know who Jon & Kate & the Kardashians are without watching their shows. Anything to stay in the news.
I’m in the medical condition camp…I have a fairly serious endocrine disease which has definitely messed with my looks. And, I’m currently on steroid therapy & it isn’t pretty.
Her face looks an awful lot like Priscilla Pressley’s face – bloated, kinda droopy, maybe a little lumpy. I remember reading somewhere that both of them got injections from that fake plastic surgeon. He was arrested (and later deported?) for injecting a bunch of Beverly Hills type people (Lionel Ritchie’s wife/ex-wife, etc.) with an unapproved filler that was basically a lubricant used on car engines. Or something terrible like that. Anyone else remember this? I will see if I can find a link.
My father was on steroids for a medical condition for quite a while and he did NOT look anything like that. He was more puffy all over…bloated in the face, belly, hands, everywhere. He was a pretty skinny dude, so it was apparent that it affected him all over. She doesn’t really look like she’s generally bloated, she looks like something is wrong with her face specifically. Although you can’t see much of the rest of her in the recent pictures so maybe I’m wrong.
She looks like a completely different person in the event pics. I can’t even say she looks bad though. I’m not getting any plastic vibes from her. Must be something else going on.

She definitely has a medical condition which requires treatment from cortico-steroids- plastic surgery doesn’t do this! I think it might be Myasthenia Gravis, just from the way her face droops and the way she smiles. Not badly by the looks of things but little things point to it.
