Sister Wife star loses her job

From left to right: Meri, Christine, Janelle and Robyn

Everyone’s favorite polygamist family, the Brown family of Lehi, Utah were on Oprah last week. It was pretty much a recap of their TLC reality show which had its first season finale over the weekend. One new thing I learned was that Kody’s first wife Meri, whose job was never disclosed on the show, lost her position in the mental health field as a result of her family’s new reality show. Meri is also studying psychology online and Janelle and Robyn work out of the home. Christine is a homemaker and cooks and cares for the children. On Oprah, Meri called her job loss “heartbreaking” but said it was understandable.

Kody, who works in advertising sales, says going public about his personal life has not affected his professional relationships.

“I’ve been in this career for about 10 years, and I’ve been fairly private about it,” he says. “I had good friends. They understood me, and I was their token polygamist friend.” Eventually, the entire company found out that I was [a polygamist], and the tolerance and acceptance has been beautiful.”

On the other hand, Meri’s former employer wasn’t as accepting. After Sister Wives premiered, Meri says she was terminated from her position in the mental health industry.

“They felt that they needed to protect the company, I think,” Meri says. “It actually makes me really sad because I loved my job. It breaks my heart, definitely. … But I understand where they’re coming from.”

While some wives have jobs outside the home, Christine is the designated stay-at-home mom. “It’s beyond me to not like it,” she says. “I love it.”

[From Oprah.com]

I haven’t yet seen the final two episodes of this show as they just aired last night but I’m looking forward to it. Apparently Kody’s “wedding” with Robyn was featured, and that took place about five months ago. Kody said on Oprah that there’s no sex before “marriage” in polygamy and implied that he didn’t sleep with Robyn before they had the non-legally binding wedding ceremony. Robyn, who has three children of her own, said that she’ll try for more with Kody. Of course she will, on the show Kody can be seen pressuring all but one of his wives, Janelle, to have more children despite infertility issues, health concerns, and the fact that he already has 13 biological children.

While the Browns are attempting to skirt around the law by only making one of Kody’s four marriage’s official, what they’re doing is still technically illegal. They’re of course being investigation for felony bigamy, and Kody said on Oprah that he found it “scary.” Oprah’s website also had more information on how the Browns can be charged with a crime even if only one of their marriages is legal:

Since the first episode aired, police in their home state of Utah have launched an investigation into this polygamist family. If they are charged and convicted of felony bigamy, Kody could face a maximum of 15 to 20 years in prison. His wives could face up to five years.

According to Utah’s bigamy statute, “A person is guilty of bigamy when, knowing he has a husband or wife, the person purports to marry another person or cohabits with another person.” This law applies to people who obtain multiple marriage licenses, as well as people who are legally married to only one person while also engaging in other marriage-like relationships.

“It’s scary,” Kody says. “I didn’t [expect it].”

[From Oprah]

There’s a good reason why this is the first polygamist family to go public. One of the wives just lost her job and now they’re all facing jail time.

Here’s video from the show of the first three wives giving fourth wife Robyn a claddagh ring on her wedding day. Robyn cries like constantly on that show. (AOL Video via Radar Online. Photos from TLC via Oprah.com)

These photos are of Kody with his wives and their kids from last to first wife. (Robyn’s kids in the first photo below are from her first marriage but all the other wives have kids with Kody.)

You know what, if all the parties are consenting adults, and are all committed to being married, then there’s no reason why it should be illegal. Same goes for gay marriage.

Government just needs to stay out of it, period.

    • Jenny120748 says:

This makes me ill ! OMG as ifg the women could truely have ” the peace that passeth all understanding” I watched the Wives all day today just to get a refresher regarding then relationships. I think the women beleive down deep inside that they could not win a man who would be just there own. To live as a miserable additional wife, during a ” growing period”, while they all adjust is insane. I believe the sadness and frustration of a living a life with needs that are not met, and not mentioned, must be excrutiating. Add to this the brainwashing that took place just for each of them to settle for sharing a partner, THIS IS SICK!!!! Get it off TV!

  2. jackie says:

    Creepy.

And why cant he combs his hair!

  3. Kolby says:

They all have lovely hair, except the dad/husband.

  4. mslewis says:

I don’t care about these people, at all. They’re nuts. I don’t care if they go to jail or not.

What bothers me and what I don’t understand is why would any self-respecting woman want to be part of this mess? Why would she want to be one of four women that this man has sex with? It’s like being in a harem where the man has all the fun. It’s probably an ego thing for him but what do these women get out of it?

  5. aenflex - Racoon, Please! says:

I dont have a problem with the legality or illegality with it, really. It would be a pain in the ass, bureaucratically speaking, but I don’t care.
It’s the emotional side of it that is disturbing, the forced disenfranchisements, the control, the man getting all the benefits. That’s the ‘oogy’ part.

  6. Kitten says:

I also completely agree that polygamy should be legal. How else will I be able to marry Ryan Gosling, David Gandy, Tahar Rahim, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Clive Owen?
Please help keep the dream alive!

  7. Rachel says:

I think that last picture is very telling. He’s leaning in toward her, but she’s leaning back away from him. Makes me think she’s not so much into him as she’s into being on a TV show and having built in child care.

  8. Ducky says:

@Kitten, while I support your right to dream, you’re aiming for polyandry, not polygamy. Just so you end up with the right spouses… 😉

  9. dorothy says:

    Wow, he’s fertile.

  10. tfb says:

I think the new wife wants in on this marriage so she can have help taking care of her difficult autistic son. They touched on his behavior issues in a few episodes. I think his handicaps will prove to be a serious issue, considering the older children really have to take care of themselves, and there is only one mother staying home with the 13, now 16 children.

  11. Kitten says:

@Ducky-Ohhh, gotcha. According to Wiki, fraternal polyandry is the most common form. Hmmm…I wonder if Ryan Gosling has any brothers…..

  12. ghostbuster says:

geez, these poor people. they are all consenting adults and seem ok with everything. i watch the show and see how bringing in robin upset them but they are all from this lifestyle and know the ups and downs that go with it. i think the utah law is ridiculous that grown adults cannot conduct their lives as they see fit. what about people with open marriages. it takes all kinds to make the world go round. they all seem healthy and happy and well adjusted and well provided for. i can see why they like the poly life, it gives a sense of a community instead of a small nuclear family. it may not be my personal choice, but it is theirs and it works for them and that should be smiled upon.

  13. ghostbuster says:

    @jen. well put 🙂

  14. Leticia says:

He’s like a mall Santa!!!!! You know, the mall Santa sits in a chair, and the kids line up and take turns sitting in his lap and having their photo taken!

  15. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

Wow. One mom for 16 kids.. I would hurt somebody, thats for sure.

  16. GreenGinger says:

Actually, @Ducky, @Kitten’s dream is safe because polygamy means having multiple spouses. I think you’re thinking of polygyny–which means to have multiple wives. And no, I don’t enjoy knowing that. At least I don’t have to live it.

  17. Ducky says:

@GreenGinger – Oops, I stand corrected. Polygamy, polygyny, polyandry – so many words, so many spouses! Too confusing for me. 🙂

  18. Green Is Good says:

They’re all adults, and went into this mess with their eyes wide open. Seems like the man get all the benefits, though.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to be part of a group like this even if I was the “First Wife”.

  19. heb says:

I agree, as long as the women are ADULTS they should be able to do whatever the heck they want.

People who oppose adult polygamy are basically saying that those idiots on Maury who have 5 baby-mamas and don’t pay for any any of their kids, are better than this loving self-supporting family.

  20. bored says:

    mslewis:

I can’t imagine it being all fun having four wives.

Personally I don’t care as long as no one is being coerced.

  21. hatsumomo says:

Why didnt this asshat comb his hair? bah!

And sorry for consistently sounding like the Nagging Nelly, but please explain to me how the dude cant have all these wives but technically its OK for Christina A to sleep around on her husband. Or how JA bangs all these dudes because she’s ‘celebrating her womanhood ‘ or some such dribble. Or you know what, never mind. These articles have been leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

  22. Wiley says:

So, appears that a lot of you got married just for the sex and you can’t get past that. Are you all at war with your men because your words suggest you don’t have a very loving relationship. This family does, and they work on their relationship every day. The Utah law is wrong and is only selectively enforced. Who gave the government the right to decide who we live with?

  23. kelBear says:

    I only have 1 comment about this….

I love the way the wife has her hair in the last photo. And his hair is nasty.

  24. Praise St. Angie! says:

A claddagh ring? are they Irish?

  25. original kate says:

this show reminds me of jon & kate + 8, except instead of multiple kids it’s multiple wives. i don’t get the appeal of this (and i really don’t get the appeal of this aging spicoli-like husband) but whatever. as long as they are consenting adults i don’t care what they do.

  26. hellen says:

“While the Browns are attempting to skirt around the law by only making one of Kody’s four marriage’s official…”

Not just the Browns – every polygamous family does this. It’s the “accepted” way. A very eye-opening look at polygamy is Jon Krakauer’s “Under The Banner Of Heaven”.

  27. Granger says:

I can’t imagine holding my newborn baby while watching my husband “marry” another woman. How much time will he really have to spend with his overworked, tired, breastfeeding wife, when he’s now acquired a new woman with whom he wants to get acquainted (in every sense of the word)? On the other hand, with all these wives and kids to supposedly spend his “quality” time with, how much time is he really going to spend getting to know his new wife? And what about the three new children he’s brought into the family? How much attention are they going to get from their new dad, while he’s so busy banging all his women and playing/talking/hanging out with his biological kids?

Sorry, but it just doesn’t make any sense to me.

  28. julie says:

They all seem very happy & well adjusted. These are grown women & if they like sharing, it’s their business. The kids seem happy, doesn’t seem like anyone’s being abused or taken advantage of. Different strokes for different folks. Government shd stay out of ppl’s personal lives

  29. mln says:

I don’t think that these people should be proscecuted as long as there isn’t abuse going on in the home. These are all consenting adults, but by all means I understand why it’s inappropriate for her to work in a government job with the mentally ill. I also don’t think they deserve the same rights as Same-sex couples do.

  30. dread pirate cuervo says:

I don’t share, but I don’t understand this Utah law that you can’t play house with someone not your “official” spouse. If there’s only one legal wife & she’s the only one getting the legal bennies, what’s the problem? Other than obvious self-esteem issues, IMO. We don’t live in bible times. It’s not cool.

  31. Allie says:

Mark my words. He’ll get this new wife pregnant is no time flat. That’s his goal in life, to have as many children as he can possibly have.

  32. Bodhi says:

If what they are doing is illegal, then they should be prosecuted, end of story

  33. Persistent Cat says:

I’m more offended by their ugly-ass shoes. And his hair.

  34. Feebee says:

I haven’t seen the show and watched half of the Oprah i/v but what I’ve gleamed from that is that only he and the first wife are legally married. The others are really mistresses that he’s had children with (like several men) the only difference is they all live together. I’m not sure where the criminal behaviour is but I’m not up with Utah law (gladly).

I did also see a piece where Robyn said something to him (husband) about how would he feel about her having a second “husband” or lover or something and he was all like, no way, he wouldn’t like that, that would be disgusting, against the bible blah blah blah. Which leads me to believe this arrangement isn’t really about loving multiple women, it’s about controlling them, having his cake and eating it too and do as I say not as I do etc etc.

  35. Rosanna says:

I hope she sues them – it’s discrimination! Where are all the LGBT out there? Why aren’t they defending HER right to a job regardless of sexual orientation?

  36. Lrayne says:

I love how during the opening credits of the show this asshat says something along the lines of “love should be multiplied, not divided.”

Um, dumbass? It’s divided for the women. But I guess they don’t count.

  37. Kristin says:

That guy thinks he is the pimp daddy. I can’t take his hair. He needs to put the blow dryer away because he is not hot.

  38. TaylorB says:

I would be willing to bet that they ‘tecnically’ fired her because she is on a reality TV show.

  39. filthycute says:

What’s up with Billy Ray Rosacea’s hair?? Buy a fkn comb!

  40. texasmom says:

I’m totally convinced that wretched hair-do is a baldness cover up. I saw a little clip of the show where he is outside in the wind and there isn’t much there. Instead of a comb-over, he has a hang-over. If he combed it, he’d lose his special effect.

  41. TaylorB says:

For the longest time I couldn’t quite put my finger on why the very sight of him made me want to punch him in the face, then it hit me like a ton of mullet… he reminds me of Billy Ray Cyrus.

  42. Maritza says:

Once the money from the show starts coming each wife will be losing their job one by one.

  43. jc126 says:

Disgusting people, perpetuating the notion that women have to be subservient to a man, and that’s how they hurt their kids, for those who say “they’re all adults and they’re not doing anything wrong”. And I think I read here, because I will not watch this show, that one or more of the wives did NOT want this new wife joining? Then he’s in charge, also not healthy, also stupid.
I’m not exactly thrilled to read that apparently they’re of Irish descent, either. Lol.

  44. gg says:

I am very sad for these women who will never have a singular bond with a person who loves them 100%. They all have terrible self-esteem issues, and he’s got all the self-esteem of Zeus. Seems to me he just wants to be the stud of the neighborhood because it gets his rocks off. The whole way he carries and “styles” himself is very telling. He wants to be the Ultimate Bigshot Stud.

Also not surprised that a mental health institution doesn’t want this crazy crap anywhere near them. They need supersized therapy, and I seriously hope the children don’t get into abusive relationships because that’s where they’re headed.

And it looks like he’s got melanoma on his face. Watch the tanning bed/golf time there, Little Surfin’ Lord Fauntleroy. 🙄

  45. original kate says:

“it hit me like a ton of mullet… he reminds me of Billy Ray Cyrus.”

@ taylorb: that made me laugh! he reminds me of toby keith, which is not a good thing at all.

  46. Praise St. Angie! says:

“I did also see a piece where Robyn said something to him (husband) about how would he feel about her having a second “husband” or lover or something and he was all like, no way, he wouldn’t like that, that would be disgusting, against the bible blah blah blah. Which leads me to believe this arrangement isn’t really about loving multiple women, it’s about controlling them, having his cake and eating it too and do as I say not as I do etc etc.”

and I think that is the issue that most of the detractors have. there is no equality in this polygamous relationship, regardless of how “normal” they appear, or how they all seem to “get along”. there IS control there, it’s just not on the same level as the Fundamentalist polygamist churches that have been in the news.

it may not be teenage girls marrying old men, but the control over women is still present.

  47. Malice says:

They made it clear that it is their choice and that its working for them. All the women are very vocal about their feelings and express their opinions regularly. Unless, it all a show for the cameras then I refuse to judge. From what I’ve seen those kids get so much love and affection that it actually made me cry. I grew up in a “traditional family” and NEVER got that kind of care or affection.

  48. TeeTee says:

While this may work for them, I do believe if legalized, this will be abused in some form–folks always come along and ruin it for people.

I don’t think just ANYONE should have multiple wives..

    geesh

  49. Lauren says:

I am trying not to judge this family. The one part I do like is that when the children come home from school, at least there is always a mom present to love & care for them. They are not collecting welfare, and three of the moms had/have jobs. Cody works too. I am certain that many single moms would love a support system like that. Lastly, I couldn’t bear to share my man with anyone..that would be torture. These woman chose this lifestyle, and all their children look well cared for. Leave them alone.

  50. Jeri says:

It seems that their personal lives would totally overshadow any employment any of them would or could have. It would make a mockery of any serious type of employment.

Their lives are all about “look at me!! “look at me!! “look at me!!” Or we would not have heard of them.

  51. Ron says:

If it makes them happy, and he is only legally bound to the first spouse, I don’t see why we should be tying up the legal system with this kind of thing. And I certainly don’t think the anyone should be let go from their job over this kind of thing, unless your personal life/beliefs can affect your job performance ie a KKK member who wants to work in the DA’s office. Overall they seem like nice enough people. I find it amusing these are the people, of the Mormon faith, that funneled 20 million dollars into CA to defeat gay marriage but feel this version of marriage should be acceptable.

  52. Original Gracie says:

    @Jen……..I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU.
I watched this for the first time last night and although I think Kody is a tool, I LOVED all the wives, how they interact and all those beautiful kids.

  53. belle epoch says:

Do his sons all expect to grow up and marry a litter of women also?

I can’t believe people think they are “happy and well-adjusted.” Give me a break. One wife is taking care of 16 kids at home all day. Three wives are working to support Hair Boy. Suddenly an autistic child by another man is thrown into the mix – yeah, that’ll work.

I’d like to know if this family is like the Duggers. Are the young women allowed to go to college? Are the young boys going to get thrown out on the street as boys from polygamist families often are? Or will they be put to work to support Hair Boy’s baby habit?

  54. Kelly says:

@original kate, that’s an interesting analogy. My little brain started spinning out a scenario where Kody does a Jon Gosselin, starts acting out and wearing Ed Hardy, moves to NY and starts banging skanks. Then he hooks up with Michael Lohan, they start some bogus business ventures (club appearances in Vegas! bedazzled Books of Moroni!), Kody goes broke, and disappears from the limelight. Yay!

  55. Leah! says:

I feel bad for the kids… it’s nice that they always have a mom waiting for them after school, but how much of a relationship can each individual child have with their father? His time is spread thiiiin. Just like his hair.

  56. Christine says:

His hair reminds me of Britney’s busted weave.

I agree – the emotional toll is severe on the women, and the children. And just the idea that the women could lose contact with their children if they left is sick.

  57. TaylorB says:

“I’m not exactly thrilled to read that apparently they’re of Irish descent, either. Lol.”

Ha! Can you imagine? No Irish woman would put up with that multiple partner scenario for longer than it took her to grab a frying pan and give her husband a smack upside the head.

  58. Stephanie says:

This makes me think of the John Edwards/Elizabeth Edwards/Rielle Hunter Bermuda triangle for some reason. Idk.
I watched the pilot episode and it creeped me out BIGTIME!!! Yes, the mothers really love and care for the children. They all seem to worship that huge douche, which I will never understand. I wonder where in the hell is the dad of the kids of wife 4.0.

  59. Annabelle says:

Umm yeah cos you can’t look after the mentally ill if you are ill yourself.

Do the wives have other partners? Would they be allowed? Those poor children… I wonder what the boys are learning. I wonder if they respect women cos their daddy sure don’t. And the mothers don’t respect themselves either. THOSE POOR CHILDREN.

Edit – Someone said that if the mothers leave they will lose contact with their children. First off – What kind of court would allow the children to stay with Kody if their mom left? He is lying to these women who don’t know any better. Is it a threat? Cos that is moving into cult territory. Exit costs are high… it’s a cult for sure.

  60. Allison says:

    @Jen: Agreed.

  61. Diva says:

A lot of you would have a lot of your questions answered if you watched the show instead of jumping to conclusions. I’m not advocating the lifestyle, I also don’t know much about it, but this family seems fine with the life they’ve chosen for themselves. And it appears to me they’re all free to leave if they want to. Meri, the legal wife has talked about how she’s thought about it at different times before (just like a lot of us have in singular marriages).

As for the daughters going to college… yeah, in fact, there was a segment of the show on Cody insisting one of his older daughters NOT leave public school to be homeschooled BECAUSE it would hurt her chances of going to a university (or, more specifically in her case, the military). Another of the older daughters is not at all discouraged from making the choice NOT to live a polygamist lifestyle when she grows up. She says she loves her family and wouldn’t change it, but when she gets married it’ll be one man, one wife.

  62. Annabelle says:

Ummm Rosanna ? LGBT = Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans – Polygamy is not included in that. Do not draw similarities btwn gay people & polygamists cos it’s not the same thing.
Oh and Heb – no, not saying that at all. What we are talking about here is polygamy not baby daddies who don’t pay, two very separate topics so don’t draw similarities & don’t tell me what I am saying.

  63. Kate says:

    Ugh, GO AWAY!

  64. Sally says:

This family SHOULD NOT be the posterchildren for legalising polygamy. As many posters are aware and have stated before, this family is the ‘happy sugar-coated’ version of polygamy. Sure, these women are in this by their choice, they’re adults and they’ve made their choices – but polygamy does represent a misbalance in power between males and females, and we all know that abuse of women and children is rife in some polygamous communities (not that it isn’t rife in others). This law protects women and children (and men too, if there are any extremist and abusive polyandrous sects out there).

This issue is not equal to nor can be equated with legalising gay marriage. Sexual orientation is not a choice. Polygamy is.

On a side note: I have an idea, toss the dude and the ‘wives’ continue to live as friends, taking care of each others children. Then they can all have men on the side if they want to! Now that’s a tv show I’d watch – the life and times of four women who break out of a polygamous marriage and claim their independence, whilst maintaining their friendships and remain living together! 😀

  65. LittleOat says:

“I’d like to know if this family is like the Duggers. Are the young women allowed to go to college?”

In an episode, one of the daughters expresses an interest in going to medical school, so Kody explains to her that in order to do so she would have to go to public school rather than their unaccredited “private” fundie school. They also talk about being ok with their children not following the lifestyle, and if I recall correctly, at least one of the children was already set on being in a monogamous marriage.

So yeah, it seems that, unlike the Duggars, these children are free to become educated and lead a different lifestyle than the one in which they were raised. Which is why I can’t hate on this family too much.

  66. fizXgirl314 says:

I really hate when people start losing their jobs because of their personal lives… It seems like such a “witch hunt” type thing… where do you draw the line? I hope she sues…

  67. Shannon says:

Attempting to legislate love and sex is just silly.

If he had three mistresses it would be okay, it’s just a crime to commit to all of them?

  68. Persistent Cat says:

Just because there’s a mother there when a child gets home from school doesn’t mean it’s the most wonderful situation on earth. Both my parents worked, I never for a second doubted my parents’ love for me and my brother and I both turned out very well-adjusted and have done well for ourselves. My parents just faced the normal problems most of us have seen. These kids are seeing some messed up stuff. One mother or three mothers home, those children are going to grow up with some messed up relationship issues.

  69. Jag says:

Are you kidding me? You can’t be married and “cohabit” with someone else? So no long-term roommates or the like, or how do they prove that the extra person is a love interest? Unreal.

I think that if everyone is a consenting adult, that there isn’t a problem. The problem arises when the people – and especially children – involved aren’t given a choice to leave or bow out of parts of the relationship. Other than that, who cares how many lovers/wives/pretend wives a man has? (or woman)

  70. Malice says:

Janelle insisted to her daughters that they HAD to get a college education. This family is not about repressing their kids in any way. In the episodes I watched the kids were free to be kids. There were lots of hugs and “love you” and the communication was there between everyone. I certainly would have my issues with sharing my husband with three other women but these women seem to value their relationships with each other and with the husband. After watching this show, I’ve come to see that families come in all forms but as long as there is love, laughter, acceptance and communication then that is all that matters.

  71. Julie says:

@RON “I find it amusing these are the people, of the Mormon faith, that funneled 20 million dollars into CA to defeat gay marriage but feel this version of marriage should be acceptable. ”

They are not Mormon. They are FLDS (fundamentalist LDS). Google it. Big difference. Kody even says so himself on this show. Mormon and FLDS are as different as Catholic and Mormon. LDS and FLDS are not the same.

  72. CB Rawks says:

They can only be prosecuted if they have multiple marriage licences.
If they have just one official marriage and a bunch of live-in *friends* they are not breaking any law, but are instead being persecuted for living in a way the rest of us think is creepy.
If they try to charge them over that, I hope human rights groups take the court system down.
Next they’ll be telling me my cat is disturbed by watching me do my workout dvds, and charge me with animal insensitivity.

  73. wonderful says:

Just a quick note for those who dont see the reasoning behind the Utah law concerning non-spousal inhabitants (if this is indeed a real law – I am not about to look it up) – I am not an American citizen, however if I had to take I guess I would say these laws are in place to keep people from doing exactly what these people are doing: committing bigamy without actually legally doing so. If I were a polygamist, and lived in fear of the law, the most obvious solution would be to legally marry one, while symbollically marrying the others.

I am sure this is a hard one to prove, but I am not going to fault them for trying. Polygamy seems to be a serious problem in Utah. I am sure it is only really enforcable in situations like this (i.e.: the people in question publically reveal their lifestyles).

@ Julie – your comment: “Mormon and FLDS are as different as Catholic and Mormon. LDS and FLDS are not the same.” – Sorry, that’s wishful thinking on the part of the mainstream LDS business machine. While LDS and FLDS are somewhat different (esp. regarding fundamentals and polygamy) they are MUCH more similar than Catholicism and Mormonism will EVER be!

  75. CB Rawks says:

“I am sure this is a hard one to prove, but I am not going to fault them for trying.”

How can you say that? How can it be okay for someone to come after you and try to prosecute you for a private personal matter in your life?
What if we all decided that we won’t allow you to vacuum in the nude. We have no proof that you do it because your curtains are closed, but we suspect you might, and we are going to take you down, sister.
What kind of a scary society would that be?
Hey! Do you recycle?! Because I suspect you might have been too lazy to separate things! I won’t have it, I tell ya!

  76. gg says:

The bottom line is that this is blatant flouting of laws against polygamy. I know he gets around it by only claiming 1, but he clearly calls them wives and they are common law wives and they make a show about it – don’t tell me this is outside the law. They need to be prosecuted. There are damn good reasons why this is illegal. The women are settling for the next best thing to having a real life partner, which is very very sad. No self esteem. And who picked out that dress for the poor baby – who puts a newborn in maroon satin?

  77. CG says:

So there is no abuse in Nuclear homes, So all relationships are about sexual power, seems to me some of you are doing some serious projecting? some of you folks are just silly.

“How can you say that? How can it be okay for someone to come after you and try to prosecute you for a private personal matter in your life?”

I am sure they dont come after anyone – like I said, it is probably only enforcable in situations like this. Read my whole comment. I am sure them “trying” typically has only gone as far as creating the law. Get a grip.

  79. Amanda says:

For those who watch, why doesn’t he pressure Janelle for more children, but he does the other wives?

  80. Diva says:

Janelle already has 6 kids with him, and she makes it pretty clear she’s into her role as the working mom. She didn’t go with the rest of the family when they all went to move the 4th wife closer because she had to work. She’s very dedicated to her job. Soooo, I’m assuming that those two things would be why he isn’t asking her to have anymore kids. Either that or she just point blank told him she was done! These women DO have minds of their own and let it be known.

  81. J.P says:

Kitten: Ist not polygamy when its you and multiple guys. In that case it would be referred to as polyandry.Polygamy only referrs to a man with multiple wifes.

  82. Sagegrazer says:

Perhaps the sister wives in these relationships are getting the female companionship they REALLY crave while getting the services only a man can provide(sperm). I know that the dirty little secret is the number of closet lesbians in the Morman faith so perhaps this is the solution. If the whole idea is to be fruitful then turning a blind eye to the androgenous nature of the wives may actually work for both sexes.

  83. Babette says:

OK, He drives a Lexus, Meri drives a Lexus and the other two drive crap…. I bet Robyn gets a Lexus, keeps her own house and doesn’t have any kids with him. The Chtistine and Janelle seem to be brood mares. I hope Christine does not get stuck babysitting Robyn’s wild kid. This is sad!

  84. Theresa says:

@Babette, You noticed the same thing I did. Did you also notice that he was super excited to marry this 4th wife, and he caused controversy when he said that he picked the wedding dress. I don’t see this ending well. I think he will be giving more care to Robyn, I think he is a bit tired of the others. Robyn seems to be more of a standup person and will most likely get what she wants.

  85. Theresa says:

I must add that all women are territorial, and they lead us to believe that they are so super excited to plan and carry out another wedding for their new sister wife, I almost gagged watching them act like they did when they were tasting the cake for the wedding, seeing how they were against her just weeks prior. He also must make a fortune for him to be able to pay all of those bills. I just don’t get it at all, 16 kids is too many to see about. How will college be paid for? He acts strange and goofy, he is in heaven with these women.

  86. Judy says:

All the kids dont really look content if you look at there faces. Its like they know something is not right about it. Also the second wife doesnt look content look at her face. Its sad.

  87. Lobo says:

I watched this show. It was ..well .. interesting. Not for me, that is for sure. For the people saying they appear very happy, maybe I am the only one, but all that hahaha laughter, fun and being together seemed very staged. TOO happy, TOO understanding. Anyone else feel that way?

  88. niki says:

Interesting behavior going on through out this show. The wives have anger, jealousy and abandonment issues. The heavy set ones are obviously resenting the slender new one. It will be interesting to see how he is less interested in them as he gets more involved with the latest. It will turn up and raise issues. The selfless proclamation of love for all sounds good, but it is not the reality of what really goes on. That life style is natural for some animals in the wilderness but offers stress and confusion with human females. Too many children and not enough time for all of them.

  89. niki says:

I was thinking about the male oriented society which Kody fits into. When Meri his first wife asked him how he would feel if she took on a lover, he was offended and irritated…so the rules are for him in terms of what benefits him. It is not about the women. They are there to fill a role which is mainly to entertain him and provide him with variety and other benefits. I do not understand these women. He can’t be that good. No man is. Where is their self esteem?

  90. Meg says:

I understand the consenting adult thing, but what’s alarming to me is the kids. It seems like he has no bond with any of his children besides being a sperm donation, since all of his time is divided between each wife. It seems sad that these kids have a father figure present who doesn’t seem to spend much time with them.

  91. Constance says:

That this goofy ass keeps having children is what annoys the hell out of me. They’ve had at least three bankruptcies between them. Christine was on assistance as late as 2010. The dumbest woman on television, aka Robyn, arrived with $32,000 in debt, including $1000 to Victoria’s Secret (must have liked SOMETHING about the ex-husband), three extra kids and no income. It was only logical to spit out another post-haste. Google “polygamists on welfare.”

  92. TED409 says:

i get dizzy watching all this stuff .
to me. id have a very hard time looking anyone in the eye except meri and robyn
    it is strange
thats pretty amazing utah was not going to go after them legally. i think kody jumped the gun on that and the 4 houses must be expensive
ive read about men who had more than one wife and they all work had college degree and jobs that sounded like they made alot of money
apparently they support themselves. i got a feeling the chit would hit the fan if they filed for any sort of aid
good luck is all i can say im at the stage of live where i got my toys and im pretty happy
rock on i ll be here watching and cheering you on . i get totally confused over dealing with that many wives especially when the heavist one of the bunch says she doesnt even want one around all the time
    hang in there
