Gwyneth Paltrow will deign to perform “Country Strong” at the CMAs

I pretty much called it – I said that it would make my life if Gwyneth Paltrow had to deign to promote her country-music film Country Strong at one of the country music awards shows, and here we go. Us Weekly is confirming that Goopy will not only be in attendance at the CMAs next month, but that she will PERFORM. How delightful! Oh, this day just keeps getting better!

Gear up, Gwyneth fans: She’s making her live country singing debut. The actress, 38, is set to perform the title track from her upcoming drama, Country Strong, at The 44th Annual CMA Awards Wed., Nov. 10 (8:00-11:00 p.m. EST) on ABC. She will be joined by legendary singer Vince Gill.

A few days later, on Nov. 16, she makes her debut on Fox’s Glee. Paltrow has said she is shocked at the positive reception to her singing voice. When Sony Music Nashville chair Joe Galante first heard her sing “Country Strong,” “he was like, ‘I want to release this as the single,'” she recently told EW. “I was like, ‘Excuse me please? What? What is going on?'”

Paltrow’s drama, Country Strong, hits the big screen in December.

[From Us Weekly]

Since I’m calling things, I’ll say this: at some point during Goopy’s performance, the camera will pan to either Faith Hill or Carrie Underwood, and they will be making a major bitchface. My guess is Carrie, but Faith is a solid possibility, considering Tim McGraw is in Country Strong, and considering that Goopy is all “my dear friend Faith.” Here’s the video again… Goopy can’t even deign to have big country hair!

Ohhh goody! You did call this one! Bwaahaaa. I hate country music but I might have to watch this one.

  2. hstl1 says:

I don’t understand why people get so much enjoyment out of tearing this woman down. I say live and let live. If you don’t like what she does then don’t read it, listen to it or watch it.

  3. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

Really? C’mon.. she doesn’t have an ounce of country in her…

They must all be on crack!

  4. jen says:

    LMAO!

  5. jen says:

I disagree. The top blondes, Faith and Carrie and other A-list country stars that dare step onto Hollywood soil on occassion, will have giant FAKE smiles plastered on them as to not insult the GOOP. The lesser, more redneck stars will be L their FAO!!!
This is a disaster. I’m not a country fan (anymore), but Goopy is going to be a joke and she won’t even realize it. I can’t wait till this movie bombs and I can stop having this weird icky feeling of sorry for her.

  6. heathen says:

“Gear up, Gwyneth fans”??? Do such people actually exsist? Outside herself and her momma I think “Gwyneth fans” are like unicorns. Even Madge (Queen of Pretense) got tired of her fake a$$.

  7. Rachel says:

Faith & Gwyneth are good friends so while I’m sure the camera will pan to her, she will not be giving a bitchface. Everyone loves Gwynnie, well except for the “peasants” but maybe that says more about them (cough, jealousy, cough) than her.

  8. sapphire says:

Totally a side issue, but from these photos, she’s not jacking her face. There: I said something nice about her.

  9. di butler says:

That mess makes me want to take a razor to my wrist. Whose idea was this, exactly?

  10. funny_girl says:

I feel a bit sorry for Gwyneth-I mean, sure her Goop side is a bit patronising but aside from that, what does she really do thats so bad? And I feel sorry for her with Chris Martin-she really traded down there urgh..Brad Pitt to Chris. And wasn’t Chris cheating on her with Kate Bosworth and maybe Natalie Imbruglia?

Just leave her be-I think she looks really well for 36, and her voice is pretty. It’s not whitney houston worthy but its fine.

  11. RHONYC says:

    *CLICK,CLICK*

taylor’s somewhere right now loading her shotgun. 🙁

  12. Diane says:

I agree with jen: Fake smiles all the way.

  13. TaylorB says:

    Dear Goopy,

The only way I would watch that is if you got some really GIANT Dolly hair, some sort of checkered HeeHaw getup, and I was really drunk at the time. As none of the above are terribly likely to happen I think I will pass.

But should you consider going with the big poofy Dolly hair and the silly costume let us know, cuz that actually might be funny as hell…and the first time in years people would willingly watch you on the screen.

  14. BReed says:

Doesn’t matter, really. Country music isn’t country music anymore….it is some kind of pumped up, quasi-rock sound. Country is Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Jim Reeves, and Willie Nelson….others of that genre. Tim McGraw and his big hat (ever notice these guys NEVER take the hat off indoors??)and his trumped up wife AREN”T country music…ditto Carrie Underwood.

  15. Rita says:

Country fans won’t care for this much. They see a lot of very talented young people trying to make it in the business and a Hollywood walk on just pisses them off. Faith and Carrie will be gracious as always.

The money men in country music are always trying to make the tent bigger and don’t give a damn about the core fans that made it what it is today. The money men will f’up country music just like they did the other genres. Without genre loyalty, people download songs instead of buy albums and that is the downfall of the industry.

A-list country stars’ sell new 15 song CD’s for $10 retail. Less than $0.65 per song.

  16. Rita says:

PS. In the video I’ve seen, she isn’t shown singing much so I wonder if she’s lip-syncing. If she does that at the CMA’s, the next time you see goopy she’ll be trying to get a boot out of her ass.

  17. Lisa S. says:

Most country stars these days do not have big country hair and/or wear big, fluffy dresses for goodness sake. Why should she make herself look like that? It isn’t 1983 anymore people. And she is 38, not 36. She looks fab.

  18. guesty says:

  19. original kate says:

“If you don’t like what she does then don’t read it, listen to it or watch it.”

i’ll stop harshing on fishsticks when she stops using every available media outlet to tell me how to “better” myself through giving $3,000 burberry raincoats as christmas presents, wearing christiane louboutin peep-toe booties, and constantly cleansing my colon by drinking her goopy potions.

  20. TaylorB says:

#16 (sorry can’t read your name)

Easy there buck, it was just a joke. 😉

  21. Yasmine says:

    Dear Goopy,
I couldn’t even finish this video, it’s effin atrocious. I think I liked you more,or should I say, hated your annoying ass less with your euro-wannabe pretension. Stuff your face with a bag of ‘crisps’ and shut the f*** up.
    Regards, your peasant.

  22. Yasmine says:

One more thing, a reply to hstl1:
Live and let live does not apply to highly privileged and extremely pretentious individuals like Goopy herself. Not only is she patronizing, she also thinks she’s hot shit with goop.com. Who eff does she think she is? As if she’s so important and the world NEEDS her to share info about her favourite pork chops recipe (ps. she’s such a hypocrite considering how she mouthed off about micro-biotic crap for years judging everyone else). And to top it off, she’s also really classist and a total snob (just check out goop.com and you’ll see). In reply to criticisms regarding how expensive all her ‘recommendations’ are (I’m being nice here), she replied: fuck the haters, I’m not going to pretend I live on 50 thousand a year…. Well excuse me biatch if I live like a peasant under 50 grand/year like the vast majority of people on the planet. What Chris Martin sees/saw in this selfish twit is beyond me.

  23. brin says:

Lady Goop also wants the peasants to know that her name is pronounced Gwineth, not Gweneth (remember that before you courtsey).

  24. Lisa S. says:

@ TaylorB- not sure if you were referring to me, but I wasn’t even referring to your post? I just find it amusing that most of this hate for GP most likely comes from jealousy. Done.

  25. TaylorB says:

#24, (still can’t read the darn names on posts, sorry)

It is all good, I don’t much care for GP personally and I am willing to bet if she met me I wouldn’t be her cup-o-tea either, but to each their own. 🙂

  26. Michelle says:

Uhm…I’m having trouble suspending my disbelief and picturing Gwyneth Paltrow as a “comeback” country singer in her movie.
    Gwyneth isn’t “country strong”… she’s “city-pampered” 🙂
Why didn’t they cast a real female country singer to play this role? I’m sure Faith Hill or Shania Twain would have drawn more fans into the theatre and their acting would have been more believable.

  27. melinda says:

    Yippie!

  28. KateNonymous says:

This music video is making my baby cry.

  29. fancyamazon says:

Just want to say that John Denver, country superstar, was not from the “country” either, his father was an air force officer, and they hardly lived “down country roads”. I don’t like Gwyneth particularly, but she has money which affords her a different lifestyle than most people, and no one needs to go to her site if they hate her so much.

It’s a good traditional-style country song with a strong theme and melody, and she sounds good to me. Country fans who listen primarily to the newer country which is very close to pop music will not appreciate it, but it’s a good enough song.

  30. Cat Burrito says:

Oh she just does everything so perfect,.. doesn’t she? Of course. It seems she wouldn’t fathom anyone thinking to the contrary. She probably turns her own shit into compost because she thinks it’s so good.

  31. Kate says:

Oh god no, say it ain’t so.

  32. normades says:

This movie looks like a female Crazyheart. Except we could believe JBridges as a down on his luck country star..goopy, not so much

  33. sasha says:

I think a lot of dislike for gwenny is that people just get tired of seeing the same actresses everywhere. They do premieres, “charity”, make up commercials, interviews….It’s like how can we miss you if you wont go away? It seems like back in the day, there was more allure because they werent shoved down our throats on every billboard and advertisement CONSTANTLY.

Still, that being said, those of you defending goop really should meet her, she is RUDE and PRETENTIOUS and MEAN.

This movie belonged to an unkown, some singer no one has heard of that is talented and someone to get excited over. Gwenny is depressing.

  34. sock puppet says:

“I don’t understand why people get so much enjoyment out of tearing this woman down.”

    Because she’s a fu*king bitch.

“I just find it amusing that most of this hate for GP most likely comes from jealousy.”

Hardly. It comes from her being a completely obnoxious and unlikeable waste of skin. Take your nose out of her backside and try again.

  35. Brittany says:

Carrie is never rude, she’s generally pretty non controversial. I’m not really a fan, but I’ve heard she’s pretty into her religion/new husband so she could probably care less about Gwyneth singing. Faith learned her lesson from acting crazy when Carrie beat her for FVOTY at the CMA’s. Miranda usually has been pouting for years, but not this one since she might actually win something and had everyone block vote for her to get an EOTY nod. Taylor will be jumping out of her chair to cheer and clap like she and Gwyneth are bestfriends. Too bad they can’t pan to Gretchen Wilson she usually has a snotty look. It’s everyone else’s fault her music sucks now lol.
I think Gwyneth’s song is great. Her voice actually sounds like she was meant to sing country. If she were interested in a country career, and could get decent songs I would buy her album.

  36. Brittany says:

All that being said Carrie can sing circles around all the females in country except maybe Martina. I’ve never read GOOP, but maybe Gwyneth doesn’t want to appear to be something she’s not. She’s writing her column from what you guys are saying for the rich who can afford it. I mean I’ll never own anything like that. I’ve seen her in a couple of interviews and she seemed nice, but I don’t know her so I have no opinion but to say I’m a country fan and I like her song. Again if she really loved country music and wanted a career, i would give her a shot. It’s not my job to worry about judging anyone. I’m not going to throw stones when I live in a glass house myself.

  37. Wonderful content. Thanks ! for writing.
