Mariah Carey has just confirmed her pregnancy! Mariah won’t reveal her due date, but does say that “it’s still early”. Mariah gave an extensive interview to Access Hollywood, which was then previewed on this morning’s Today show. She also said that two years ago, she had a miscarriage. Poor Mariah! Here’s the video and some excerpts:

It’s been talked about for months now, and finally Mariah Carey has come clean: She’s pregnant!

“Yes, we are pregnant. This is true,” Carey, 41, said on the Today show Thursday morning as part of a sneak peek at a three-part Access Hollywood interview. “It’s been a long journey. It’s been tough because I’ve been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy.”

Husband Nick Cannon, 30, joined the interview to talk about the “absolutely emotional” news, adding, “The greatest gift on earth is a child.”

Carey, who also told of a miscarriage two years ago, would not reveal her due date. She would only say “it’s still early” and “expecting is great.” Ever-supportive Cannon said of the loss, “It strengthened our relationship so much … she handled it so well.”

Two years ago, shortly after the couple’s secret wedding, Carey and Cannon were in Monte Carlo for the World Music Awards when Carey took a pregnancy test, and it turned out to be positive. “Only one person knew about this and we were like, um, ‘let’s not tell anybody else,'” Carey said.

A little more than a month later, she miscarried. “It was really sad so we had to just, we had really to absorb this and take it in,” Carey said. Cannon added, “And that’s what I said, like her strength would literally be during the day so festive and smiling obviously for cameras and spending time with everyone and you know, literally that night crying herself to sleep.”

The news, of course, won’t surprise those who have followed the couple’s coy references to pregnancy and babies over the past few months. Rumors flew as the expanding singer seemed to bloom a little more every week, and both Cannon and Carey have spoken about their desire for children.

In August, Carey fanned the flames by stepping out in Brazil wearing a maternity dress. She quickly addressed the ensuing frenzy, explaining she is “superstitious” about pregnancy and promising, “When the time is right, everyone will know.”

Days later, Cannon gushed about his wife’s motherly instincts, telling PEOPLE that “she’s very nurturing.” But not until now have they admitted they’re soon to welcome their own bundle of joy.

Now that the news is out, people will clamor to know the sex of the child. The couple wouldn’t say yet, but eventually Carey will cave, because she loves to decorate.

[From People and Today]

I’m really happy for Mariah and Nick, and I’m glad Mariah has finally confirmed everything. Now I want her to stop hustling. Mariah has more money than God – she doesn’t need to do the promotional heavy lifting now that she’s knocked up. Just sit on the couch, Mariah! Take a load off and eat bacon, for the love of God.

  5. mln says:

That was such a sweet interview. I hate the womb policing that people do in general on stars because I don’t think anyone should be forced to talk about their fertility. I am wishing them the best.

  6. gabs says:

Im happy for her. I hope the baby will be healthy. Miscarraiges are so sad. I also think the reason she got fat these past few years was because of fertility treatments. I dont blame them for waiting so long to confirm

  7. Atticus says:

  11. jc126 says:

    Good for her.

  12. Kelly says:

    I’m happy for her.

I think it will be twins, and she’s carrying them in her cheeks, like a squirrel.

  13. Kristen says:

This makes me surprisingly happy! I don’t normally care so much about this couple, but now I’m all Go Mariah! Hooray, baby!

I hope their child is healthy and happy!

  17. orion70 says:

    Good for them 🙂

And this is yet another reason why people should never hound a couple about “so when are you guys gonna pop one out?” type questions.

  18. Sassy says:

I’ve always disliked her… BUT now? I dunno, I kinda LIKE her. Weird. I DO hope she and Nick have a wonderful pregnancy and a healthy baby! Congrats!

  20. dorothy says:

I don’t really like her…but wish them both the best.

  21. Tia C says:

I saw this underwhelming little tidbit of news on the Today show this morning and was wondering who would give a rat’s ass, but, judging from some of the nice comments on here, I guess some people do still care about Mariah Carey. I never cared for her singing voice, but I did like her in “Precious.” Her hubby seems like a good solid guy, too. If they’re happy I’m happy for them and wish them luck.

  22. Ferguson. says:

Aww! I’m really happy for them! They deserve it, especially after the sad miscarriage episode. Hope the baby is healthy and everything goes well. Im with you Kaiser, Mariah should just lay back and relax, for the baby’s sake but also for her own.

  23. Novaraen says:

She will decorate in Hello Kitty…no matter if it’s a boy or a girl. Trust.

  24. Kim says:

I hope she has a girl I can see Suri 2.0 right now . Congrats. ITA with my dislike of the tabloid baby bump watch what if a celeb can’t conceive and she has to deal with people congratulating her about being pregnant every few months.I’m thinking of celebs(not saying that can’t get pregnant) like Beyonce or Jennifer Aniston who tabloids have claimed they were pregnant 6-7 times

  25. LolaBella says:

    Congrats to Mariah and Nick.

I hope they have a safe and happy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

I wish that she would just stop performing on stage in 6 inch heels! She shouldn’t risk another fall like the one that happened a few weeks ago.

    Embrace the ballet flat, Mimi!

If that baby is a girl, I can just imagine that it will be completely surrounded by all things Hello Kitty.

  26. Courtney says:

it’s nice that now a days celebrities can be open about if they’ve had miscarriages previously to having children. just because of her age doesn’t neccessarily mean she used fertility treatments to conceive this baby. I think Mariah looks more like she’s having a girl her face is alot fuller than it usually is

  27. DetRiotgirl says:

I hope she has a girl! Or that she gives birth to a drag queen. Because no matter what sex this baby turns out to be, it’ll be covered in glitter, rainbows, unicorns and hello kitty until it’s old enough to tell mom to put down the bedazzling gun.

I can picture Mariah’s future with a son right now. Upon his 7th or 8th birthday, the boy would realize that other little boys of his age were not carrying hot pink Louis Vitton bags to school and did not consider shopping for stilettos a sport. In an effort to find social normalcy, he would come to his mother and have a conversation that would run a little something like this:

Son: Mom, I think I would like to redecorate my room.

Mimi: Awesome! I’ll go get four servants and those deary-loo wallpaper cut outs we’ve been saving for a special occasion.

Son: Yeah, about that mom… I was thinking maybe we could do something a little bit more… Well, you know… Something a little less girly. You know, for a change.

    *long pause*

Mimi: So… You’re saying we should do Badtz-Maru instead?

But, seriously, good for Mariah! She and Nick seem like a really great couple, and I wish them all the best!

  28. KateNonymous says:

I’ve never been a fan, but I do hope she has a healthy pregnancy and baby.

  29. Anon73 says:

love me some Mariah !! ; ) so happy for her as she opens a new chapter in her life.

  30. Kiska says:

Nick and Mimi are so sweet together. I hope they have a healthy child and a safe pregnancy.

  31. Christine says:

I dislike Mariah Carey, BUT kudos to her on talking about her miscarriage. I went through 5 losses before getting my child (with one more en route) and when I went through it, no one talked about miscarriage. Now we have at least some people talking – like Mariah, Kelsey’s mistress, Giuliana from E!, Lily Allen, etc. I think the more it’s discussed, the less stigma there is, and women suffering will get the support they need.

I wish them all well. And I will now step off from my soap box.

  32. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    YAY!!!

  33. birdgherl says:

There’s a Jenny Craig contract in her future.

  34. Courtney says:

don’t be so negative on her others have been open about miscarriages as well. are you guys forgetting Sophia Loren who had two near fatal miscarriages in the 1960’s before she had her two beloved sons Carlo Jr & Edoardo Ponti. of course she didn’t talk about them then nobody did but when she wrote her Autobiography nearly 30 years ago she talked about them with honesty and great detail. though some stars that went through it around the same time that she did have still yet to speak about their pain. Joanne Woodward for example as I’ve mentioned before but she will in her autobiography that comes out next spring/summer.

  35. Crash2GO2 says:

Best to them both. I hope this means she will stop wearing skyscrapers on her feet whilst singing, but I doubt it somehow.

  36. Raven says:

I always thought she was strange and I never could see the two of them together, but I hope it works out for them. And she’s big enough that it could be twins, isn’t she?

My guess is that she did the typical thing of waiting until after the first trimester to announce. She’ll probably give birth next April.

  37. Someone Else says:

Ok, not to be the downer at the party, but this is Mariah Carey and *she’s having a kid.*

I really am happy they’re having a baby, but I seriously (and I mean, seriously) pray their child doesn’t make Suri look like perfect offspring.

Or worse. Something heavily Hello Kitty related. And Pink. Lots and lots of pink. Poor Nick.

And what if they have a girl? 😉

I’m just sayin’. Mariah Carey. With a kid.

    DetRiotgirl’s onto something…

  38. The Hamm is My Dream Man says:

I am all smiles and joy for her. Having a miscarriage is a devastating event in a person’s life-I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

I’m glad for her that she gets to have a child that she so clearly is yearning for 🙂

  39. Mingy says:

    @Kelly, LMAO!!!!!

  40. Camille says:

I have never seen her as the motherly type, no doubt though that she will have some really great nannies to help along the way.
I wish them the best with everything. (And please god lets NOT have another Suri 😆 ).

  41. Courtney says:

stars have always worn heals while their pregnant it’s to off set the gavitational shift that happens as pregnancy progresses get over it.

  42. Trashaddict says:

Kelly the squirrel comment was great. I’m glad I wasn’t drinking coffee or it would’ve been all over my screen.
Just imagine Nick Cannon is about to face the boobie bonanza. She’s already stacked to the limit, can’t imagine if she decides to breastfeed!
But they are cute together when the diva stories aren’t floating around.

  43. jemshoes says:

Oh yay! I’ve always had a soft spot for Mariah. Her marriage to Nick has been the best thing to have happened to her. He clearly ADORES her. And now a baby! *Happy sigh*

  44. truthzbetta says:

Aw sweet. She’s gotten more likeable with the years, or maybe it’s just me.

Anyway, agreed. Please lay back and rest this one out. We know sweetheart is dingy and prone to overwork herself and she has definitely earned some She Time. Relax and make a human, girlfriend.

Diva it up with the white candles, dove releases and humidifiers for the pipes if you like too. You earned all of it.

  45. Courtney says:

Uh for the next couple of weeks of so she can’t relax as much as she should because of the release of her new Christmas CD and the debut of her house wears shoe jewlery and fragrance line on HSN November 29th at which point she’ll be about 5 months along as she’s probably due the end of march or early April though a majority of firstborns are late

  46. Lynda says:

Looks like she has been not only eating bacon but swallowed the quarter hog.

  47. Courtney says:

Uh she had to be on progesterone after the miscarriage and the first trimester of this pregnancy to help sustain it so she gained extra weight not just due to pregnancy so she’s just about 4 1/2 months so she’s probably gained about 13 related to the pregnancy which is right on target. as a normal weight woman is only supposed to gain about 35 pounds throughout pregnancy of course if there’s medical issues her ob/gyn will ease up on the recomendations.

besides the baby is only 6-9.5lbs of actual weight gain for a healthy full term pregnancy the rest is tissue water fat and amniotic fluid
