Castmates honor Heath Ledger at the New York Dark Knight premiere

The New York City premiere of The Dark Knight was held at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square theatre last night. The film has gotten tremendously good reviews (with the exception of New York Magazine) and many theaters have already sold out tickets for the July 18th opening.

Heath Ledger has gotten such amazing reviews for his performance. Although his untimely death obviously created a lot of press for the film – his last full role – I think he would have gotten nearly as much had that tragic accident not occurred. From the looks of it, he gives an out-of-this-world performance. And I think that’s a great legacy to leave behind – Heath isn’t getting all this attention just for something heartbreaking, but because of his amazing talent.

“Working with Heath was fantastic,” said Christian Bale, 34, who reprises his role as the Caped Crusader. “He steals the movie and I’m quite happy to say that. He’s a hell of a talent and created a joker that’s very iconic and one that will become a classic portrayal of the ages.”

Michael Caine, 75, who plays butler Alfred Pennyworth in the film, which opens July 18, noted the “intensity and ferocity of the performance.”

“But when we were sitting down between takes, he was completely ordinary,” Caine added. “He wasn’t preparing himself or saying ‘Please leave me alone, I’ve gotta do this.’ Instead he was talking to me.

“We would sit and chat and have a cup of coffee, then suddenly they’d say, ‘We’re ready, Heath,’ and he’d go straight into The Joker,” Caine continued. “His energy was astonishing, especially when it came from this kind of calm. He’s certainly the best villain I’ve ever seen.”

[From People]

I’ve noticed that Christian Bale always speaks about Heath Ledger in the present tense. He did the same thing in an interview on The Today Show yesterday morning.

Heath’s family attended the premiere, but very quietly. Heath’s father, mother, stepmother, and older sister all avoided the red carpet (which was actually black) and sneaked into the theater quietly to watch the film. Upon exiting, Heath’s father Kim gave a thumbs-up to the press, and said the movie was “very good.” By pretty much everyone’s account, The Dark Knight is great – and a true example of Heath Ledger’s immense talent and dedication.

Here are Christian Bale and Sibi Blazic; Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard; Michael Caine and Shakira Caine, Morgan Freeman, Lauren Conrad, Ed Westwick, Gary Oldman, Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann, Nestor Carbonell, Robert Buckley, Edie Falco, Ethan Hawke, Aaron Eckhart, Karina Smirnoff, Chin Han, and Blake Lively at the premiere last night in New York City. Is it my imagination or are most male actors tiny? I see that Christian’s companion has heels on but still. She looks very athletic by the way, very fit gams from what I can see.

  2. Anni says:

can´t imagine how hard it must have been for the family to see their passed son and brother on screen…

  3. fee says:

    I knew I loved Christian Bale for a reason – his date looks like a healthy woman – not a gross,sickly,skeleton, lollipop-headed troll……love it!

  4. dontcha says:

I believe that Christian Bale’s “date” is his wife (of close to ten years, I think) and mother of his child.

I remember her from Kevyn Aucoin’s make-up book “Face Forward”.
Nice to see there are some normal people in Hollywood– if normal means talented and beautiful and still able to make a marriage last, then yes, normal 🙂

  5. ri23 says:

Another post, another pic of Bale. It’s a good week. Also, Sibi, gorgeous. Matches his beauty.

  6. Kolby says:

I love how Christian Bale has managed to keep his family out of the limelight. The press seems to respect him, and the fact that his daughter’s name isn’t known is a testament to his ability to keep his professional and personal lives private. And Sibi is lovely!

And, my goodness, Christian Bale and Nestor Carbonell on the same carpet? I may swoon!

  7. ri23 says:

@ Kolby: Sweet fancy Moses, I didn’t see Nestor. Please try not to fall on top of me, as I will have already hit the ground before you.

  8. mollination says:

WHY DOES GOD-DAMNED LAUREN-FUCKING-CONRAD GET TO GO TO THE PREMIERE!??!?!?! I FUCKING HATE THOSE HILLS DO-NOTHINGS!

I am sorry to CAPS-yell….I am… but some things are just too much. I am tired of it! This hills-attention nonsense is sickening!!!

  9. Bodhi says:

mollination~ I feel your pain; I really do. I hate those twats too

:homerdrool: over Bale. That is one fine looking man

  10. Rio says:

What, only ONE picture of the undeniable hotness that is Gary Oldman 😛 ?!?

  11. Ron says:

I live in LA and often deal with actors and you are constantly surprised how tall/short/fat/thin/good skin/bad skin etc etc people are in person. The primary combo is short and very thin. The camera actually does add 10 pounds so the women and the men both are very concious of that.

  12. chamalla says:

Holy crap, the hotness is overflowing.

*joins Gary Oldman is HOT cadre*

    C. Bale, G. Oldman, cute little nearly jailbait Ed Westwick, NESTOR!!!!!!!

My day is totally made. And I think I need a ciggie.

  13. Trillion says:

Kevin: Bale is a bit over 6 feet tall. In short (ha ha) he has no flaws. Factoid: his stepmother is Gloria Steinem. Whoa.

  14. I choose me says:

Can I add to the Gary Oldman love. the man is just…well f’ing brilliant. That is all.

  15. geronimo says:

Didn’t think he was that tall, Trillion, but I’ve just checked and you’re right, 6’1″. That’s at least 3 inches more of him than I thought existed. Can this day get any better?!

  16. CB Rawks says:

So Batmanuel is also in the cast? That’s gonna confuse me.

  17. daisy424 says:

Bale’s wife used to be Winona Ryder’s assistant. She introduced them on the set of Little Woman.

  18. Mairead says:

Oh how I worship the acting greatness that is Michael Caine. No matter how dreary the film, he is guaranteed to be excellent

And Maggie Gyllenhaal can do no wrong in my eyes (I choose to ignore any questionable roles 😛 )

But yeah… Christian Bale and Gary Oldman… 😳

  19. Dizzybenny says:

I’m just glad to see Gary Oldman playing a good guy.
He is great playing the bad guy but still, how many times can he play the crazy bad guy in movies without being repetitive…repitative.repot…alot? 😉

  20. jinx says:

Christian is an easy 5’9″ his wife Sibi’s heels are small 2″ and that would make her around 5’6″ ish. Sibi used to be Winona Ryder’s assistant when she met Chris, and they dated for quite a while Sibi left before Winona lost her sticky fingered shit.

He’s pretty tall for an actor. You should see Kevin Connolly, who plays E on Entourage, now that is one tiny man, cute but t.i.n.y.

  21. maxpurr9 says:

yeah, love seeing gary…and thanks for the extra pix!!
but, really do his glasses NEED to be that big?? i don’t think so…but i do love that he just doesn’t care….
i only say this, because i have seen him in cute glasses before.

  22. Sue says:

    Gary yummmmmmmm.

  23. AC says:

I WAS THERE> I WAS WALKING BY AND SAW HIM! I didn’t even know it was going on i just walked by! I only saw him from a distance but he was smaller than I thought and his cheekbones are GIGANTIC! Even more sharp and promenant in person.

I was sooo excited to just STUMBLE across him. WAS SO COOL!!

  24. fee says:

Gary mmmmmmmmmm – alot of my friends cant see the attraction – i even drooled over him as the nasty Dracula!

  25. Sue says:

Gary is hot because he’s smart. Those eyes know alot-yummie!
