Ryan Gosling smolders as GQ’s January cover boy

gq-cover-med-res

Ryan Gosling is the January cover boy for GQ Magazine. GOSDONG!!! I know many of you are over him now that he’s slipping The Gosdong to Blake Lively, but I still have some affection for him. He got a Golden Globe nomination this morning too – and maybe he’ll even bring Blake as his date!!! Good times. Anyway, GQ has only released a few select excerpts from their cover interview. Also: Gosling took his GQ interviewer to Disneyland. At this point, the boy has a Disney fetish, he really does. Once, even twice if your name appears with “Magic Castle” I’ll let it go – but we’re going on at least a half dozen Gosling-Disneyland references in a year. Enough. Here are the highlights:

“The path of the Reluctant Movie Star has been well worn at least since Brando, but few have walked it as doggedly and resolutely as Gosling,” writes GQ correspondent Brett Martin. All of Ryan Gosling’s roles, with the exception of The Notebook, have been “small, odd, and metaphysically mysterious.” Even his two latest movies, All Good Things and Blue Valentine, “do little to alter the perception that he will only do those things that appeal to his own, confident sense of what’s worth doing.”

The two spent time together at some of Gosling’s favorite L.A. spots, including the Magic Castle and The Varnish, discussing family (he comes from a “family of believers”) and his various jobs outside of acting (including working at a local deli). Gosling says his latest film (with rumblings of an Oscar nod), Blue Valentine, is the best he’ll ever make.

Ryan Gosling on his family’s willful suspension of disbelief:
“My mother still believes in Santa Claus. We tried to break it to her once, but she wasn’t having it. There are very few believers in the world, but my mother is one of them. I don’t know if she’d admit that this is why she does it, but it’s just more fun to believe in Santa than not to.”

…on why he got a job at a deli after his Hollywood hit, The Notebook:
“ ‘I’d never had a real job,’ he says. The problem with Hollywood, he goes on, is that nobody works. ‘They have meals. They go to Pilates. But it’s not enough. So they do drugs. If everybody had a pile of rocks in their backyard and spent every day moving them from one side of the yard to the other, it would be a much happier place.’ ”

…on expecting retribution from his success:
“Look, this is crazy. I don’t understand how I’m here, living this life, wearing this suit. I assume I’m going to pay for it someday…. And that’s okay. It seems fair to me. I just want to be ready for it. I want to meet it like a gentleman.”

You know who Gosling reminds me of a little bit? Shia LaBeouf. It’s like there’s some sort of desire – in both Gosling and Shia – to come across as somewhat creepy/weird, just in attempt to be different. And I hate to say it, but I think Shia does it with more authenticity, you know? Shia seems genuinely creepy and weird. Gosling seems like he’s trying too hard.

Ryan Gosling & Blake Lively are the poor man’s Ryan Reynolds & Scarlett Johansson. Canadian actors with eyes slightly too close togehter, find themselves young blond starlets with large breasts.

  2. LittleDeadGirl says:

Really, I didn’t get that vibe from him at all. I kinda liked his interview. Alright fine maybe I’ll forgive him anything cause I’ve had a crush on the boy since Breaker High and Young Hercules -hangs head in shame-

I dunno what’s wrong with me I don’t even like blondes but him and the Askars just do it for me …

  3. Ernestine says:

LOL. I think Gosling has FAR better acting chops than Reynolds, sorry. And personally, I find Gosling sexier than Reynolds, too — but, then again, I’ve never been into boys who wear more makeup than I do.

And ScarJo is a billion times hotter than Blake, but they’re evenly tied as far as acting ability is concerned. Neither really knows how to emote.

  4. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I adore him so much. I loved what Ryan said about getting his deli job. Oh Blake is to good for you boo.

  5. Marjalane says:

You know- the best part of fantasies is that you can make up anything you want, and in my fantasy with Ryan Gosling, he’s not a Disneydork or banging Boobs Lively. sniff.

  6. Laura says:

Honestly, I find his obsession with taking people to Disneyland kinda creepy. Also, his face is wonky on that cover.

  7. Lisa Turtle says:

Ernestine – I agree with you. Gosling is a far better actor than Reynolds. Scarlett has acted in better films and had better roles than Blake.

    Scarlett > Blake
    Reynolds < Gosling

    Which leaves them evenly balanced.

So whose the poor man in this battle for the bottom?
Publicity wise – Scarlett was just named by GQ to be the woman of the year (or babe or chick with a big rack – whatever they’re awarding this month) and Ryan Reynolds was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive (barf!) – so I’ll give it to them.

  8. Abby says:

Ryan Gosling is not creepy. he’s yummy.

  9. bite me says:

checks panties, yep still dry, meh

  10. Roxanne75 says:

    r u freeking kidding me…yikes

  11. MSat says:

I don’t get it. He looks like a cross between Tucker Max and a basset hound.

  12. Lisa S. says:

I just watched “Lars and the Real Girl” this past weekend and I luv Ryan Gosling even more. He is amazing.

  13. Obvious says:

Ryan started with the House of Mouse. Nice to see he knows where it started-besides who doesn’t love D-land?

  14. Me1st says:

wasn’t he a Disney product? Maybe that’s the infatuation with Disney, he goes back to where it all started.
Just my opinion, I know it doesn’t count for much.

  15. jen says:

I like my fair share of geeks-but I just don’t get it with this guy.

  16. spinner says:

    I can’t see you…I can’t hear you…

    He is mine!!

  17. Fire says:

YUM….but YUCK – Blake. Thought he was too cool for someone like her. Thought he was indy and would date someone like Michelle Williams…

  18. pumpkindoc says:

Long time lurker, first time poster. The “Magic Castle” is not related to Disney World. It is a dinner show LA venue where they showcase magicians and magic tricks. It is even weirder than a grown man going to Disney World, but is potentially less pedophilic. http://www.magiccastle.com/

Edited to add: Ryan Gosling is smokin’ hot, partially because of his talent. Man can ACT. Just saw Blue Valentine..awesome movie.

  19. Bodhi says:

I don’t think he is “trying to be weird” at all. I think that he genuinely believes in hard work & there is nothing wrong with that in the slightest. Hard work is good for you, it keeps you grounded. Gosling is much more of a real guy than most 99.9% of his peers.

Edit: No comment on Blake; I just can’t…

  20. original kate says:

something tells me gosling is a demon between the sheets. don’t know why i think this, but i hope it’s true.

  21. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

Well, I like him, he seems to get it more so than a lot of the younger actors.

Go Johnny Depp Go (Golden Globe) MUAH

  22. heatheradair says:

@LittleDeadGirl – LOVE to find other people who watched Young Herc (bizarrely, my sister tracked down the entire series on DVD, we loved Chris Contrad’s Prince Jason character….the series actually still holds up almost 15 years later – it’s not awful!). Actually, I haven’t been a fan of Ryan SINCE the Breaker High days, but have that “aw, I knew him back when” sort of affectionate thing when I see him doing well. Now back AWAY from The Blake (they look too much alike….).

  23. Bailey says:

he is not the only one smoldering

  24. heathen says:

I gotta disagree. Ryan seems real in his weirdness. Shia is the one posing, imo.

  25. Jeri says:

He is good looking and not just a fame ho. That cover photo really brings out his eyes.

He never (that I heard) spoke about his relationship with Sandra Bullock, most other young “actors” would have used that for publicity.

I hope he’s able to hang on to his beliefs.

  26. LittleDeadGirl says:

heatheradair – Haha I’m kinda the same … I’ve actually not seen alot of his recent stuff but my affection for him holds from those days. Young Hercules was so bad it was good. I am not even gonna pretend I didn’t watch it or Xena when I was in highschool.

  27. The Hamm is My Dream Man says:

I think he’s incredibly sexy and like a “normal” actor i.e. a slightly odd person. He seems really nice too.

And I was going to mention the Magic Castle thing as well. it’s not Disney. It’s this big old house in the Hollywood Hills which has a private club for magicians and their friends. You can’t go there unless you’re a member or a friend of a member.

And I like Disneyland-I’ve gone every year or twice a year (or three times a year) every year of my life. It’s great fun and you can take literally anyone and they’ll have fun.

EDIT: mark another name down for Young Hercules lover. Maybe that’s why I think he’s lovely-I’ve had a crush on him since middle school.

  28. Marjalane says:

Oooooohhhhh! I just read that Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds split- maybe Boobs Lively will go after the OTHER Canadian Ryan and leave mine alone!

  29. Roma says:

I came back to this thread due to the other Ryan breakup as well! Breaker High and Young Herc were 2 of my guilty teenage obsessions. I’ve forever loved him and truly believe that he’ll be an even better actor when he gets older.

  30. Lillie says:

I don’t get how you can try to hard to be different it’s just how you see things being werid is just being yourself no one can be better than you at it. I love ryann like this cover is way to sexy for words , he’s a fine ass man thats for sure . I find the Disneyland thing cute it’s just like how we all have a place we enjoy going too no ones to old for Disney land. No comment on Blake waste of my time

  31. Anna says:

I think he is no way posey, he comes across a bit weird but charismatic. And he is my no. 1 DONG if we’re going there hahah.

  32. LolaBella says:

    LMAO@ bite me’s comment.

I like Ryan, he’s a great actor and Lars and The Real Girl is one of my favorite movies.

I just can’t with the news of him dating Boobs Legsley.

    Has this been officially confirmed?

Is he selling out like the rest of Hollywood with these PR fauxmances?

I thought he and Michelle Williams would have made a good couple; they have amazing chemistry in their pics and in interviews.

That cover shot is really weird… is he trying to hypnotize/seduce me with his eyes??

  33. LittleDeadGirl says:

@LolaBella: He is … and only you … -lol- sorry that came into my mind and me giggle so I had to express it. I so agree with you … saddens me to see him dating a blond Lohan. I thought so much more of him than this PR stunt but I guess he works in Hollywood so maybe he has to sell out a bit once in a while to make it through? Can’t hate him too much for that …

  34. tooey says:

I’d be happier if his cover story was “shows you how to wear underwear like a star”. Too many clothes!

  35. I used to like him... says:

I don’t know… I used to love this actor, but now he’s starting to annoy me for some reason. He lost the innocent quality that he once had. Guess that’s natural though. Not fond of his voice either. But he is a wonderful actor.

  36. ur mama says:

Yea I agree – show us some skin-but that boy has some serious mojo – I would do him in a second – A wham-Bam-scream for your man!

  37. Glyrics says:

Sorry, he’s bland. Bland and fug.

  38. Yeah! I like Ryan Gosling so much!
