Jake Gyllenhaal & Swifty were soberly cuddling at Swifty’s b-day party

Of course. Yesterday, Taylor Swift finally turned 21 years old. Now she and Jake Gyllenhaal won’t have to just hang around coffeehouses endlessly – although I bet they still will. At least now we can finally say “Just man up and get her drunk, Jake.” You know Swifty and Jake would have probably both giggled like little girls when they ordered their first Buttery Nipples. Us Weekly reports that at last night’s birthday party for Swifty, Jake and Swifty were “cuddly and so cute” and “obsessed” with each other. AND NO ONE WAS DRINKING. The Hell? I know would need a stiff drink if I had to watch Jake nuzzle Swifty’s bangs trauma.

Jake Gyllenhaal was all the intoxication Taylor Swift needed at her 21st birthday party at her Nashville home on Monday night.

A source tells UsMagazine.com that Swift celebrated her big milestone with Gyllenhaal, close pals and no booze at a “small” and “super low key” bash at home.

Although she’s now of legal age, Swift didn’t drink alcohol at the Christmas-themed bash, the reveler says. In fact, the source says, “no one was drinking” during the fete.

But she and Gyllenhaal were “cuddly and so cute” and “obsessed” with one another, the reveler says.

The party-goer adds that no other celebs surfaced for the fete at the country star’s recently purchased home, which was decorated with yuletide decorations throughout.

“I want a Christmas-themed birthday, because I love Christmas as much as my birthday,” Swift recently told Us Weekly in Taylor Swift: Inside My World. “Combining the two just seems like the perfect festivity.”

She hinted that she wasn’t interested in imbibing alcohol too much: “My friends drink, but I’ve never felt the need to,” Swift said.

The twosome were reunited in L.A. last week following Gyllenhaal’s sojourn to Australia, where he was promoting Love and Other Drugs with Anne Hathaway. Gyllenhaal and Hathaway were both nominated for Golden Globes on Tuesday morning for their performances in the film.

Blah, blah. It’s interesting to me that Us Weekly is getting so many of these strategic leaks – at first People Magazine had the first detailed reports of the cuddly G-rated union, but now Us Weekly is getting everything. Personally, I like Us Weekly – it’s trashier and dirtier than People, but there’s a similar celebrity-friendly vibe. I wonder if Jake and Swifty’s reps have some kind of exclusive deal with Us Weekly to promote this relationship? I’ll have to check the print issue to see if there are lots of ads for coffee (tin foil conspiracy hat on).

I am loving the straight hair on her…and normally I am more of a curly hair fan.

  2. LOVE ANGELINA says:

*Gags* I can’t stand them together.

  3. sharylmj says:

Good for her!! just because you can doesn’t mean you have to… she will last a lot longer in this business if she stays away from all that stuff..
She is such a pretty girl. Not sure about these two together?? kind of weird still…

  4. Twez says:

There are few things I hate more than that sanctimonious comment about not drinking, “I’ve never felt the need to.” And I say that as someone who hasn’t had a drink in nearly 20 years.

  5. BuffBitch says:

    What a load of bs.

  6. Justagirl says:

Kaiser, I don’t get why you are so bitchy towards this couple? They’re happy. Who gives a shit if their way of showing it isn’t your cup of tea? Just cause you’re miserable and alone…well…;) Don’t hate on those that are actually happy & don’t need to bitch about people they don’t even know lives.

  7. Obvious says:

Love th straight hair. I like Taylor, but the curly do was annoying me. too much.

  8. flutters says:

Aha, I was waiting for the stories on this to see what they’d be like. I agree how it’s very interesting that Us Weekly is getting the early strategic leaks. Us Weekly did a Taylor-only special issue that came out when her album did, maybe it’s all part of the deal?

I really think that Taylor’s team is the one working Us Weekly not Jake’s. I think Jake’s would be more likely to work People because it’s the more traditional celebrity outlet but Taylor Swift’s team is much more likely to think outside the box and not worry about Us Weekly’s more trashy reputation. Also I think Us Weekly is linked up with Lainey and she’s been getting some of the leaks too.

I had been asking myself what on earth Taylor Swift has to gain from this showmance and that Us Weekly cover story spelled it out: this is basically about transitioning Taylor Swift’s image from teen princess to an adult in an adult relationship. So I think we’re looking at a contract where the parties agree that this will last for a long while. It has to, to at least cast some doubt on the “bearding” talk and to start giving people the idea that Taylor’s a maturing woman. Which…LOL. She’s got a savvier business mind than most adults but emotionally, she’s still a child. A child who’s laughing all the way to the bank but a child nonetheless.

I know that sounds mean but it actually makes me a little sad. I know these are 2 wildly successful people but it feels so screwed up and sad that they’re offering up their personal lives for professional manipulation.

  9. Kaiser says:

Justagirl – Everything about them is too sweet. I read it as insincere and try-hard. As in, they’re trying too hard to make us believe that they’re this great new couple.

Edit: Cosign with flutters. Flutters – I agree that Swifty is pushing many of these stories too. I didn’t think so until I read the Us Weekly cover story, in which every other quote was from a Swifty source.

  10. Sandy says:

Taylor looks more like Barbie than ever. And Jake looks like Ken. Maybe that’s why they’re so annoying. They both look like empty headed play things with no parts.

  11. Rasputina says:

Justagirl, Swifty is rather well known for moving from one man to another, even if it’s not anything serious. I’m giving Jwifty two more months before the tandem disbands and Swifty writes another sob-song.

  12. Rita says:

What has happened to all the “showmance!!!” accusations and “run Taylor run, he’s gay” and “this so fake, what is Jake going to do with a teenie bopper?”

Love will find a way to drowned out the skeptics, including me.

  13. Ruby Red Lips2 says:

    Beard!!!!

  14. kimmm says:

It looks like she’s wearing a wig . Wth .

  15. Jane says:

Can’t wait until the fauxmance is over. It’s so pathetic.

  16. brin says:

I like her hair like my men….straight.

  17. KJ says:

God, this is such a gross display of the core of what Hollywood is – one big lie. What the fuck do you think they talk about? Jake, who’s almost 30 (or is 30, close enough), had a very long term relationship with a grown woman who is also a parent, and now he’s dating a barely 21 year old? Who is not ONLY just a regular 21 year old, but the kind of 21 year old who doesn’t have alcohol at their 21st bday party, and writes songs about rainbows and tears on guitars and fluffy clouds and fucking John Mayer. Oh, and they both conveniently have shit to promote. What a crock. The posed pictures, the “candid” coffee dates, how phony. And here these people seemed like two of the more genuine in Tinseltown, and I wish I could be happy for their new little relationship because I used to like (Jake) and not mind (Taylor) them separately, but it’s just so clearly PR. They’re just as scheming and calculated as the rest of them. A big fake image designed by a team of experts. Gross.

  18. Nicky says:

The reason it was “small” and “super low-key” was because it probably never happened. Either that, or no one showed up due to Taylor’s sickeningly sanctimonious attitude being a major buzzkill. I bet they would host the most boring parties together, oatmeal served on a beige plate, with a large dollop of vanilla ice cream, washed down with still water. Remember when Jake used to be a credible actor, popular with the ladies? Now look at him, reduced to faux-mancing a self-righteous, childish pop singer for relevancy. How sad yet amusing at the same time.

  19. Rita says:

    @Justagirl

It’s probably not my place to say but I’m going to anyway. Your #6 comment is way way out of line. Such a remark is meant to be truely hurtfull and I feel you need to be called on it.

We all get a little too bitchy here but that’s what this site is for. I understand your adoration for Taylor and I’d probably say something similiar if Kaiser (All Hail) had said something terrible about Celine. Stay with us honey but let’s keep things in perspective.

  20. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

I would be super drunk just to be with these two. I would keep my bottle in my pocket and drink shot after shot.

    Cause. ITS.JUST.WRONG.NOT.TO.DRINK.AT.UR.21ST.BDAY.PARTY.OR.ANY.PARTY…

  21. Marjalane says:

It’s always bright and sunny in Swifty’s Hello Kitty world, isn’t it?

At this point Jakey boy better be gay, otherwise he’s just kind of pathetic.

  22. jover says:

Love the comments esp. Flutters, Nicky and 17; everyone should know by now that swifty isn’t innocence and candy canes but corporate calculation. I don’t think this transitioning to “adult” will work; what guy is going to a swifty concert to rock out; she can’t sing live, her song writing and life experiences are very limited, and her image is fixed in the public’s minds. Like many mininally talented popstars, her team overexposed her to cash in early there’s not much substance there, and now much of the public has seen through her schitck and are tired of her; when she mounts next year’s tour, someone needs to compile the exact figures on actual tickets sold, size of venues and actual number in attendance. Be interesting to see the figures.

  23. KelBear says:

Why does she wear wigs? Why not straighten her own hair. It’s obvious it’s not her real hair. The color is not even close either.

  24. Franny says:

    her arms are tiny!

    also, justagirl…rude.

  25. Sam says:

“tin foil conspiracy hat on” – seriously just choked on my drink – LOL!!

  26. Me1st says:

who said it wasnt her hair? where was that written?

  27. KJ says:

I don’t think anyone said it in a magazine or anything, but that’s clearly a wig. Look at the part. There’s no real scalp. The hair is placed way too densely, and it doesn’t look natural. That, and Taylor’s hair is more of a cool, ash blonde than a highlighted blonde. That’s a wig, and trust me. I know wigs, weaves, extensions and pieces like the back of my hand.

  28. flutters says:

@jover Tickets to Swift’s 2011 tour already went on sale and judging from the media reports the attendance and gross numbers should be staggering. It’s why her becoming a serial showmancer confused me at first. It’s not like she needs it to sell albums or tickets. But now I see it’s about trying to reshape her image and maybe to facilitate more film roles. Plus maybe she needs these showmances to give her something to write about 😉

In Jake’s case his people probably think this will help give him more matinee idol appeal to Swift’s young fans.

But I really agree with KJ up there. I’m never been a buyer when it comes to Taylor’s CDs or Jake’s movies but I always figured they were 2 of the Hollywood celebs with their heads screwed on straight. It’s disappointing seeing them caught up in the Hollyweird machine like this. There’s always a certain amount of calculation involved with celeb promotion but this crosses a line for me. It’s that combination of selling out your personal life and acting like the public’s so stupid it needs to be fed something like this.

  29. Grace says:

@ #17 – Perhaps I’m just being naive here, but I think it’s understandable for Jake to go from dating a much older mother to someone that young. Perhaps the last relationship didn’t work out because he realized that he and Reese were not on the same level mentally and emotionally and so now he’s trying to correct that. In this case he might be over-correcting, but he certainly wouldn’t be the first person to get out of a relationship that didn’t work and to try to correct that mistake by going for the exact opposite of what they had. I don’t think that’s really the best strategy, but I see tons of people doing it (and I’ve even done it a few times myself.)

  30. belle Epoch says:

#6 STFU. You don’t know any more about Kaiser than you do about Jake & Swifty. If you don’t like Celebitchy, go somewhere else. Please.

#19 Very nice response, much better than I could manage.

  31. Jeri says:

I’ve always been a fan of Taylors but recently I think she is making some bad choices. John Mayer, first and foremost and just overdoing everything. She’s turning into a fame ho jumping in front of every camera around and it is not flattering.

She’s destroying the good will of this fan by using these cheap tactics for publicity. I hope she’ll smarten up before it’s too late but it may already be past that point.

Write a song about fame hos Taylor.

  32. flutters says:

Us Weekly may’ve gotten played. People and Gossip Cop are claiming there was no cuddling, sober or otherwise, because Jake was in LA and not at Taylor’s birthday celebration.

I think it’s pretty funny one or the other mag is going to have egg on its face.

  33. LittleDeadGirl says:

Christ I would have needed to spike my coffee to be at that party and not vomit a little. I’m sorry but the relationship is so fake. That kind of sweetness is almost bullshit at 16 much less at 21 and however old Jake is … isn’t he like 30? Grow up and date someone your age pleeeease …

  34. Jade says:

So, it looks like the Us story has disappeared and now People is saying Jake wasn’t there. Interesting.

  35. KJ says:

@Grace – That thought actually crossed my mind when I wrote my original post. Maybe he thought things were “too adult” with Reese. Wouldn’t surprise me at all since she seems like an uptight busy body sometimes. BUT, the difference is just soooo extreme that I can’t see how he would still be dating Taylor for longer than a few weeks. Reese is very, very serious and adult. Taylor is very, very not. Just speculatin’ though.

  36. jover says:

Thank you flutters for the response but what are the size of the venues and how many show up is the question. I read that she’s appearing in 18 countries 79 dates – but generally american acts no matter how lame are able to do well just by name recognition. I’m also curious as to the demographic that goes to her concerts.

  37. Nicky says:

So if Jake wasn’t there does this mean that he’s reneging on his contract? Could this be the end of Gaylord Jwifty? Probably not. I love that Us Weekly got caught out for this though but what’s funnier is that Perez went with (or stole) this story too, making them both look ridiculous.

  38. Grace says:

@ # 35 (and sorry that I keep using a number and not your name, but I can’t seem to make out what your name is):
I agree about Reese seems uptight. My more shallow theory is that after dating Reese, Jake just wanted to date someone who doesn’t care around a gigantic purse the size of a duffel bag.

As for Taylor’s immaturity – I can’t figure out if she’s truly immature or just surface-immature. I’m a surface-immature person, I like corny Hallmark movies, sappy music that I’m probably too old to be listening too, I love to watch cartoons and the Brady Bunch etc, and I generally have a very Pollyanna view of life. And my life could be best be described as ridiculously wholesome. I am labeled as immature because of this. But I am only surface-immature – underneath all of that I’m the complete opposite. I think I cut Taylor a lot of slack because of this. I guess it’s possible that she’s a great big 12-year-old on the outside AND the inside. But I tend to think that she might not be based on the fact that she’s at least smart enough to not act like the Britney Spears/Miley Cyrus’ of the celebrity world – there are no pictures of her private parts splashed everywhere, no pictures of her falling down drunk as she leaves a club while vomiting on herself. I realize of course that I’m setting the bar rather low here, but I do think she’s more mature than the average early-20-something celebrity.

  39. KJ says:

Grace – don’t worry about the name. I think there’s someone else who comments under the same name (KJ, how original lol), so sometimes it doesn’t show up as a name, just a number.

She certainly isn’t in the category as the Mileys and the Lindsays and the Britneys. I think it’s because Taylor was raised by humans and not ravenous, fame hungry jackals.

  40. flutters says:

@jover Sorry I can’t help you out with the size of the venues. I know they’re big in the US (including some stadiums) but I don’t know about overseas. The demographic of Taylor’s fanbase at concerts is widely reported to be screaming young tween and teen girls who idolize her. She’s hit a sweet spot for sales and now she’s so big, country radio keeps playing her even though she’s pop and pop radio plays her too.

@Grace I think Taylor’s extremely and unusually mature about some things (how to conduct yourself in public, how to approach a career) but very emotionally immature about others (relationships) because she hasn’t really been able to live life the last few years.

It’s sort of ironic because most of her songs are about love but it’s painfully obvious she’s never really experienced anything other than the high school version of it. And as long as she’s stuck in showmanceland she won’t be any closer to the real thing either. But she’s old enough and successful enough by now that she’s responsible for her own choices so if she wants to keep signing up for PR romances then she can live with the consequences.

Personality wise I see Jake as a very intuitive gentle soul type whereas Taylor’s more a shrewd but repressed person who talks about feelings but isn’t really in touch with them. That’s why it seems like such a mismatch to me, plus the convenience of the timing of them hooking up and the staging and all that.

  41. Nicky says:

Scarlett Johannson and Ryan Reynolds have split. I’ll put money on Jake and Scarlett hooking up once his contractual obligations have ended with T-Swizz.

  42. Jacqueline says:

With straight hair, she looks like a German pornstar my dad used to always watch.

  43. Anonymous says:

This couple is just too random for me..LOL But she looks beautiful with her hair straightened!

  44. LolaBella says:

No one will EVER be able to convince me that these two are a couple or are in any way sexual with each other.

This is one fauxmance that is just too preposterous to believe.

ETA: Her hair looks better straight with the bangs.

  45. elle says:

The curly hair suits her better. The blunt bang looks silly and that thing about her party sounds like a load of PR- BS! I could believe she wasn’t drinking, thats her choice but they make everything surrounding her sound like a hallmark card. She’s 21 years OLD! Give me break already. Theres gonna come a time where they won’t be able to market her like a high schooler.

  46. lolo says:

Perez Hilton claims there was “no booze” at the soiree, period, but says Swift and Gyllenhaal were “cuddly” all night, asking, “Who needs a martini when you can get intoxicated on GyllenHAWT!”

And who needs facts when you can make up stuff?

Gossip Cop spoke with a partygoer and learned that the combination birthday/Christmas celebration (which Swift holds every year for her team) did NOT occur at her home.

The party DID, however, have cocktails and wine on hand for anyone who wanted to imbibe (although Swift herself did not).

As for Gyllenhaal, who supposedly spent the night all over Swift, Gossip Cop has learned the actor wasn’t even there.

  47. Hakura says:

May has well throw my opinion into the ring. I really like the straight hair on her. I think she looks good with both, but the straight really makes her look more womanly. I was surprised how much it suits her.

Yeah, I agree that you really can’t believe what a lot of people are saying. I keep hearing so many conflicting stories about this outing, and about she and Jake’s relationship. *shrug*

  48. loveyourwork says:

    the hair is a wig.

    but it looks good.

and who are we to speculate like we know sh*t?

I think that Flutters has it bang on with:
“Personality wise I see Jake as a very intuitive gentle soul type whereas Taylor’s more a shrewd but repressed person who talks about feelings but isn’t really in touch with them.”

I actually think that they could be a very apt match for one another. She’s a little immature (I think she’s playing at being “Taylor Swift”) but he probably is a little immature too, and she’s quite mature when you watch her E! True Hollywood Story. She knows what she’s doing. So does he.

  49. mary the truff says:

ok ppl lets keep it real once he has sex with her all that lovey dovey cuddling WILL END! Taylor is a sweet girl but id wish she wasnt soo into fairy tales and prince charming, in the real world cinderella saves herself.

  50. mollination says:

Love her hair, love them together, love how much this is bugging everyone – I hope this lasts for a significantly longer time than everyone is predicting!

  51. riviera mann says:

HEATH LEDGER WOULD NOT APROVE THIS.

  52. Mine says:

They are as fake as that wig she wears. When is she going to give Beyonce her wig back. Looks 100x better on Beyonce.

  53. observer says:

    I totally agree with flutters.

Someone just 21 years old should be idealistic and shoot for something meaningful in life. It’s not like she’s going to go broke if she weren’t doing this contract. I think of Hilary Duff and how she had a real personal life as a young woman and now has a real marriage. But Swifty is a completely different animal than Duff. I’ve been thinking for a while that Swifty is not actually a sweet person at all, that that’s just her image. Hell, she may even sign up for a Scientolo-contract if the money is right. I think we are looking at the next Katie Holmes.

  54. JenJen says:

KJ is right about it being a wig. She has been going back and forth and her hair is a different color. I find it so hard to believe Jake is under 30, he’s doing something if he looks that old. Love the buttery nipples joke!

  55. JenJen says:

Well at 21, she already did Mayer, so she has slept with half or all of Hollywood (if you use the Kevin Bacon effect).

  56. ur mama says:

I luv us weekly too – my favorite! I wonder if the people at the party were texting their friends about HOW BORING their work party was last night. Someone needed start doing shots

  57. mwell says:

I dont even know what to say…

  58. mwell says:

im sure jakes a total stoner

  59. curegirl0421 says:

    sharylmj… I totally agree.

I’ve never been a drinker, and is it so strange that her 21st wasn’t an alcohol-fueled orgy?

    *gets on high horse*

I am all for poking fun at celebutards, but guys come ON…you have to pick a side. Either you hate LiLo and her crackhead ways or you hate goody-two-shoes girls who don’t drink, don’t smoke, and fall head over heels in love on a regular basis. You can’t have it both ways… then you’re just being bitter.

    *dismounts*

I hate her hair when it’s straight, and she should smack her stylist for doing that to her.

    That is all!

  60. Hakura says:

@#59- I think the main problem is that the media picks and chooses what they talk about in regards to the lives of celebrities. They grab onto *extremes* because it gets attention, and a response.

People love to criticize actions that are so clearly wrong, so are interested in such stories. They sell so many magazines documenting mental breakdowns, abusive relationships, affairs, dating break-ups & divorce. DRAMA stems from conflict.

But they will often respond to the opposite extreme, either with praise and admiration for someone deemed ‘a good person’ or someone who has ‘redeemed’ themself, or with criticism because people don’t believe those stories, deem the person ‘not normal’, and begin searching for the DRAMA. Must be hiding something, must be cheating on their spouse! Has a love child! Maybe they’re GAY? The marriage is a sham!

It’s unfortunate. The media knows what grabs attention, and celebrities, while they make more money than GOD, pay for it in a lack of privacy, and being subjected to the tide of public opinion.

  61. Abby says:

I remember when I turned 21, I didn’t drink any alcohol. But of course, I was 10 days away from my due date, so that could’ve been the reason why…. 🙂
