Tyra Banks says Michelle Obama should be calling 1/2 the shots; + Obama shirtless

Tyra Banks has an upcoming interview in Harper’s Bazaar in which she talks about her admiration and hope for presumptive Democratic candidate for US President, Barack Obama, and his wife, Michelle. We reported last week that Banks would dress up as Michelle Obama for the cover of the magazine. She does appear as a preppy looking Michelle posing by a lookalike Barack in the Oval Office, but that photo is in the inside of the magazine, not the cover. Banks gives a lot of stupid quotes about Obama in the interview, advance details of which were printed in Star Magazine. You have to wonder if her endorsement is any help to the candidate whatsoever. She does have an inexplicable fan base I guess, as her show is popular enough:

Tyra Banks… would love to score Michelle Obama as a guest on The Tyra Banks Show! The supermodel-turned-TV titan is so fascinated by Mrs. Barack Obama that she was thrilled when Harper’s Bazaar tapped her to pose as the Democratic First Lady hopeful for its September issue, on newsstands Aug. 19. “She’s got that direct-eye-contact, truly connecting thing,” says Tyra, who’s met Michelle before. “[She is] so warm and gracious.”

“With Barack Obama, his becoming President is them becoming President, because Michelle was there from the beginning,” Tyra tells Harper’s Bazaar. “Without Michelle, he wouldn’tbe there.” What kind of First Lady would Tyra be, given the chance? “I’d wear a V-neck shift and a two-inch heel. Even if the President were taller, I would keep them low. Otherwise it gets a little too sexy,” she says. As for hair, Tyra jokes that her biggest dilemma would be “to weave or not to weave.” And her Secret Service acronym? “KMFA: Kiss My Fat Ass.”

But all joking aside, Tyra says she’d stand by her man. “In the end, the First Lady should be her man’s rock and his boulder and his mountain. And she should be calling about 50 percent of the shots!”

“When Barack won the nomination, I just started bawling,” confesses Tyra. “I started calling all these people, and everybody was talking to me like I was crazy. They’re like, ‘Well, he hasn’t won yet,’ but I’m like, ‘Yes, he has, because he’s gotten this far.’ I think he gives everybody so much hope.

“What gives me tears is if Barack Obama wins, kids are going to say a black man can be President too.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, August 18, 2008]

Michelle Obama would do well to distance herself from Tyra Banks and say she’s too busy to appear on that tabloid talkshow. She probably knows better than to appear on Tyra’s show. At least Bazaar didn’t put the Tyra as Michelle photo on the cover of the magazine, but the stunt certainly got them enough publicity anyway.

Michelle has said that she doesn’t get involved in every policy decision for Barack. She said that “I am not going to realistically be the policy expert on every opinion and position that Barack has because I don’t have the time to do it, quite frankly. And I have to be okay with that.” In another interview she said “My first job in all honesty is going to continue to be mom-in-chief” to their two daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. Tyra is not doing her any favors by declaring Michelle should be calling 1/2 the shots if her husband becomes President. People vote for a candidate, not his wife, and there’s already some wariness around Michelle because she’s an accomplished woman. It just seems like some of these celebrities and their half-baked statements are not helping Obama at all.

I’ll stop with all the political news today, but it seems like it’s really creeping into the celebrity realm. If it gives me an excuse to publish more shirtless pics of guys I’m on it.

Here’s Obama shirtless in Hawaii on 12/21/06. I just started subscribing to Fame Pictures and was excited to see they have those exclusive Obama beach shots. He looks a lot better in most of them than the one that was the most popular.

This leads you to wonder, just how much a celebrity ‘endorsement’ helps or hurts a campagin.

Tyra Banks needs to stick to what she knows best… saying ‘fierce’ and smiling pretty.

  2. Enonymous says:

I agree with Tyra that they are a team and Michelle Obama has played a huge part in the success of her husband. However, Tyra seems a little too confident that Obama will be the next president. Hold on Tyra, do not speak to soon. Do not jinx things.

  3. Kaiser says:

Tyra: Certified A–hole since 1993. Please, someone get her to shut-up.

And those Barack pics should certainly dispel right-wing chatter that he’s too skinny – the beanpole has a gut! Yea! He’s one of us!

  4. daisy424 says:

“Only US presidents have been given the honor of speaking in front of the Brandenburg Gate, which is what Obama wanted to do in Berlin. German Chancellor Angela Merkel made clear she was against “electioneering” by Obama…” Instead he chose the Berlin Victory Colum.

I understand this cover photo is a ‘parody’ of Stanley Tretick’s candid photo with JFK and John Jr.in 1963. But in my opinion it is assuming and arrogant.

  5. Megan says:

Yeah people shouldn’t just assume Barack will be the next president until he’s given the keys to the white house. It’s bad jinxing otherwise!

  6. hairball says:

It’s not that I don’t think Michelle’s opinion should count for anything, but the people would be electing Obama, not Michelle. If you’re hired for a job, it’s nice that your boss etc likes your significant other, but they are hiring you. Oh and Tyra Banks is a MORON.

  7. Lola says:

One word on Shirtless Obama: HOT!!!

He will soon be exchanging notes with Putin on hot bodies, LOL…….

  8. Trillion says:

Wow, if you think the location of the speech displays arrogance you must be peeling your brains off the ceiling regularly with the current president’s costly presumptions. (cost being human life that is)

  9. Celebitchy says:

I live in Berlin and although I’ve only been here a few months from what I understand there’s hardly anywhere else Obama could have spoken that was as central and would have been able to accommodate 200,000 people. He spoke in an area that also served as the “fan mile” during the European soccer cup last month and it was already equipped with large screen TVs. That’s where they hold a lot of big events too, so I don’t know where else he could have spoken that would have been as easy to get to and set up. Surely there are other places, but that’s the first place I would expect him to have been.

  10. Kaiser says:

Yeah, CB, and a lot of the anti-Obama people are forgetting that Obama’s trip overseas was a direct response to criticism he received from McCain & co. They bitched and moaning until he went on the trip, and now they’re bitching and moaning he went on the trip. Political clusterf–k.

I think celebrity endorsements are, in fact, detrementel to a candidate’s campaign. I think one of the main reasons Bush got re-elected was that Hollywood engineered a huge anti-Bush free-for-all…however, they were so busy bashing Bush (what alliteration!) they did not make it clear why they thought Kerry would be a better President. It was all “We hate Bush” not “We love Kerry”.
Actors and musicians have an overinflated sense of their own political power. Not being from the US, I didn’t have a big, emotional stake in the outcome of the 2004 elections (it would have been fine with me if Kerry had won), but I DID enjoy the fact that Hollywood seemed a little stunned by the fact that they didn’t have all this power at the polls–that while the media may make it seem as though celebs wield all this influence, in truth, people are not sheep and they will make up their own minds, no matter what Tyra Banks, Barbara Striesand, Susan Sarandon (or Alec Baldwin!)thinks.

  12. Snowblood says:

Tyra Banks is a megalomaniacal twit, completely self-obsessed and out of touch with any reality except her own. God, the bitch is annoying! Jinxing-ass ho-bag. Shut up and go away, Tyra. God.

  13. Snowblood says:

Oh, @ Celebitchy, thanks for the awesome beach shirtless photos! Great stuff…

  14. Um…. people actually listen to Tyra???

  15. Lookin’ HOT, Obama, my man!
    Work those pecs!!

  16. I choose me says:

“to weave or not to weave.” I can’t stand the twit (Tyra) but that made me chuckle dammit.

  17. Victoria says:

Well, now, I don’t care for Tyra, but I do agree with her on the beach pictures!!!!! Yummy!!!!

  18. rottenkitty says:

I’m just stunned that Tyra could talk about anything other than Tyra…

  19. gg says:

Oh, barf – that header picture is in very poor taste. 😕

  20. me says:

daisy424- Arrogant of who? Obama had nothing to do with these pictures. It amazes me how people on the Right attempt to call anyone arrogant. After all, what is more arrogant than choosing to go to war against the wishes of the American people. Daisy, I think you have been listening to too many Fox News talking points.

  21. daisy424 says:

Me; I do have the right to voice my opinion. Did you read the begining of my post? PR is trying to liken him to JFK, in my opinion. Not just on that cover.

I am not leaning right or left, get your facts straight before you start attacking me. As I have stated before; I am not affiliated with any political party.

I don’t owe you an explaination of my voting habits, but I feel compelled to defend myself. I have voted Democrat in 3 elections.

Time fades some people’s memory’s of the facts. Back then the majority was behind the war. Hindsight is 20/20.
    That is a luxury.

At least I have the guts to state my opinion, knowing I will get pounced on by people like you. I don’t feel the need to hide behind a pseudonym like you do. Sign up for Gravatar.

As far as my tv news viewing habits, stick it up your ass and go back to watching BSnbc.
