Globes trend: Sandra Bullock & the bangs trauma nightmare

fp_6550054_goldenglobes_set2_rij_88_103

How horrible did Sandra Bullock look last night? I mean… the dress was not good, but it could have been saved if Sandra had been styled well. Sandy is almost 50 years old – it’s time to stop with the little-girl bangs trauma and the rocker-chick “I don’t give a frig” styling. Be a professional. Be classy. Unfortunately, Sandra decided to go for some radical bangs trauma… because that’s what boning Ryan Reynolds will get you.

fp_6550057_goldenglobes_set2_rij_91_103

Bad choices, bad hair, bad bangs. Speaking of boning Ryan Reynolds and having the horrible hair to show for it, Scarlett Johansson….

fp_6549495_goldenglobes_set2_rij_09_103

Totally Bride of Frankenstein. What’s worse is that ScarJo thinks this is a “high fashion” and “editorial” look. Yes, there are models in fashion magazines who will have this hair. That doesn’t mean it should be worn on a red carpet.

I hestitate to call out Helena Bonham Carter, especially over her hair, which was only one small part of HBC’s crazy-bitch styling (also included: two different colored shoes). But the hair was a spectacular mess. Just the icing on the crazy cake, really.

Michelle Williams: “Hi, I’m the second coming of Mia Farrow, aren’t I precious?” Me: “No, your 30 years old, it’s time to grow up and stop with the 10-year-old-boy haircut and the 10-year-old-girl daisy dresses.” What’s even worse? The fugly daisy dress is Valentino. WTH?

wenn3170866

I actually like Olivia Wilde’s Marchesa dress (shock), but I thought she ruined the look with her dumb bangs trauma. Her hair wasn’t red-carpet. It wasn’t Golden Globes. It was much too informal for this event. And you know she was aiming for “I’m such a hippie, I can wear this fancy gown with simple beach hair.” And she can’t.

wenn3170991

Did you see the back of Helen Mirren’s head? Her new haircut is HIDEOUS. It looks like she cut it herself. With a weed-wacker. It’s all choppy and cheap-looking. As for Tilda Swinton… well, she’s an alien. I mean, am I supposed to critique the hairstyles of aliens?

  1. Kelbear says:

I loved Sandra’s hair! I really think I liked Olivia’s dress the most. I didn’t mind her hair that much but she could have done something better with it.

When my husband saw ScarJo he said “Guess the breakup isn’t going very well”. Ha!

  2. annaloo says:

Awww…..can never slam Helena…she goes to her own drumbeat and we need more of that….

I didn’t think Sandra’s bangs were so bad…i certainly didn’t pull the same thoughts looking at them. I thought she looked fab.

  3. Tess says:

    Sandra Bullock.

This is what happens when your hair stylist has bizarre fixations on both Cher and Cousin It.

  4. brin says:

Yeah, Sandra did not look good, her bangs were too heavy & dark. Scarjo definitely had bride of Frankenstein/windtunnel hair.
I loved Olivia Wilde’s dress and hair.
    Piper Parabo looked great, too.
    Tilda always looks ghostly-ghastly.

  5. carrie says:

    AWFUL dress for Michelle Williams!
i love Olivia’s dress but it’s more Oscar than GG on my opinion

  6. Maritza says:

Helena Bonham and Tilda Swinton’s styles are to be expected, their fashion sense is zero but Michelle Williams really needs to stop wearing those girly dresses.Sandra’s bangs are way too long, she looks young and pretty,I like her dress.

  7. Reality says:

Agree with all your comments, but I do like Scarletts hair. I thought it added some edge to her sweet, rather demure looking gown. And Olivia Wilde looks gorgeous, but a with a simple chignon and the bangs slicked back, she’d be an A+.

Sandra Bullock looks like she’s experiencing a rather tragic midlife crisis. The hair and even the jewelry are just way too young for her. And I don’t believe this Ryan Reynolds rubbish at all.

  8. Anti-icon says:

Sandra and Scarjo’s hair were both hideous. I like both their dresses.

I think the top prize for female style should go to Melissa Leo and/or Tiny Fey. They are both awesome women who are styled great — and Tiny has had some problems with that in the past. Melissa could; because she’s a down to earth woman, but she looked beautiful.

  9. Rita says:

The flow of Helena’s Edward Scissorhands Buffon into her Che Guevara print dress says the revolution is over but the bushes are nicely trimmed.

(That is Che’s silhoette in the lower right, isn’t it?)

  10. serena says:

Well the bangs on Sandra Bullock are fine. she seems younger. and that’s fine too.

Even Scarjo is fine, I find the hairstyle very pretty.

  11. Jezi says:

I think Sandra looked beautiful and I thought her hair looked fine.

  12. jaye E says:

Sandra Bullock’s stylists should be shot, or at the very least, bitchslapped. She looked terrible.

  13. Nanea says:

When I first looked through Globes pics at an agency site, I didn’t even recognize Sandra. I had to click on the thumbnail to see who it was. I have no idea who told her this would be a good look/hairstyle.

Michelle W looks like a well-conserved 50 year old, with that bad posture. It’s not only in this pic (because Kaiser is known to pick out the least flattering at times 😉 ) but I’ve seen lots of others where she looks even worse, more slouched.

  14. Bubbling says:

So I’m just gonna put it out there like it is- I can’t help it, I LOVE bangs trauma, it’s not red carpet shyt, but you I would rock it day to day (if I could)
Michelle girl get it together that 18 year old gay boy hair, those fug dresses even the way you stand makes me want to slap you.

  15. Isa says:

Sandra’s bangs are probably fake (clip on), so she will look her old self by now.

As for Tilda, just love her. She is so different from all the other female stars, it’s refreshing to see someone there who is not so glamorous, but just who she is.

  16. Louise says:

I never agree with Kaiser when talking about bangs trauma until I saw Sandra. She looks horrible. I actually think Helen’s hair is the best she looked. Usually she looks like she just got out of bed but this time she looks like she made and effort.

  17. Quinn says:

I love Sandra’s dress and don’t mind her hair at all. I think she looks great.

  18. Anon says:

I hated Olivia’s dress bottom. It just seemed like too much (or you could find at any prom), and it annoyed me when she was presenting with Pattinson.
It just seemed like she was drowning in it…
I liked Natalie’s, January Jones and Anne Hathaway’s dresses the most.

  19. shatz says:

Tilda Swinton always looks so bizarre. What is the deal with her?

Sandy’s bangs make her look really young, and not in a youthful way. In a juvenile way.

I thought Olivia Wilde looked gorgeous. the hair offset the crazy-formal gown.

And don’t knock HBC. I don’t care how bat shit crazy she looks. She is awesome and you can’t deny it.

  20. K-MAC says:

I think Sandra’s bangs and dress looked great! It was nice to see her step out in a different style. AND since she is almost 50 and still looks ridiculously good she can wear whatever she wants.

  21. MSat says:

Look. Some people like bangs. And some people have bangs because they have pale, large foreheads. So get over it.

Yeah, I’m one of them. I was pretty much born wearing bangs and believe me, not having them would be more of a “trauma” for the world.

  22. Waldemar says:

I didn’t even recognize her in an other post about the GG! But I didn’t find it ugly. Maybe she didn’t had her botox shots and decided to cover the wrinkles up this way?

Love her dress. Valentino? That is her normal to-go-to designer for award shows, anyway.

  23. Lori says:

I’m usually a fan of bangs, but even I think Sandra’s bangs are too heavy. I hope they are a clip-in.

Helena, you keep bringing the crazy, you hear?!

  24. C-Love says:

Wow, Kaiser, you seem to be taking this crap personally! Only hope you are cranky bc you stayed up late watching the Globes and having some drinks. Yikes!!

  25. Judy says:

Thought Sandra Bullock looked beautiful; thought Olivia Wilde’s dress was the most gorgeous of the evening (but her hair should have been up); and thought Catherine Zeta-Jones’ dress was beyond stunning–the only green one I liked.

  26. Kaye says:

I’m still waiting to hear if there was any mean-girling between Sandra and Scarlett. Or at least a side eye? Never mind – Sandra’s too classy for that.

  27. KMK says:

All Sandra needs is a couple of tatoos, and she would like exactly like Jesses mistress~

  28. LindaR says:

@ 21 (can’t read the name). Me too. You could watch a movie on my forehead. The reflection from headlights would blind oncoming drivers in a car. I will have bangs until I die. If your eyes are only an inch from your hairline, bangs aren’t a good look but otherwise, what’s wrong with bangs?

  29. renee says:

I thought that it was funny that Scarlett and Sandra almost wore the same dress…

  30. December says:

Love love love Helena Bonham Carter and Tilda Swinton.

I thought Sandra looked fine, but then again, I think bangs are hot.

As for Olivia…her dress was horrible. It looks like an ’80s prom dress. >.<

  31. anti says:

looks like sandra is hiding an eye/brow lift…

  32. munchies says:

    Sandra looks very young!
    Scarlet is pretty and natural.
Tilda thnks shes still on set, taping.
Bonham – it would look weird if its with others but if its HBC, its normal.
Williams is adorable but her fashion sense is just way very odd. she always borrow Matildas clothes.

  33. redlips says:

Loved Sandra’s dress….the bangs, not so much. Scarjo’s hair looked like the “Bride of Frankenstein”. Bad! Her dress as well as Wilde was absolutely gorgeous. Carter, always demanding attention, which she got. Trainwreck! Michelle Williams needs to grow a spine and stop being so syrupie sweet.

  34. Aria says:

Sandra is almost 50??? NO WAY! I thought she was around 42 or something. I like the bangs (no bangs trauma for me at all)

  35. anyhoo says:

    Msat, LindaR

Me too—I NEED bangs. My hairline is so far from my eyebrows, and that’s TRAUMA. I don’t understand why everyone refers to bangs as TRAUMA. Really?

  36. Shay says:

All I know is that Helena Bonham Carter always looks like she has just stepped out from the loo after a torrid shag.

  37. justathought says:

Truly, her bangs were kinda cute but that hair piece slapped on the back of her head looked terrible…not blended…and her makeup made her face appear much lighter than her neck…horrible..indeed.

  38. Tess says:

Disliking her bangs isn’t the same as disliking bangs in general.

One of the biggest problems with her bangs was that they photographed badly. It was a lighting issue. In some of the live shots you couldn’t see her eyes—the bangs and her dark eyes just merged together and it looked like one, overly long expanse of black bangs.

  39. Ashley says:

You spelled you’re wrong when referring to michelle williams. And sandy’s bangs may be clip in as the color doesn’t really match.

  40. Emmy says:

I didn’t even recognise Sandra initially last night. Its not the bangs that shocked me, it was the botox overload…wtf.

I’ve always been on the Sandra Bullock love train but call a spade a spade. I remember a number of years ago when I hadn’t seen her for a while and she came on Oprah to speak about her restaurant and eco candles…I was shocked at how frozen her face was. It was the same last night. If you look at the pics Scarlett has more wrinkles than Sandra. So is America’s sweetheart always given a pass when it comes to calling out the freeze?

  41. Hakura says:

Now this is the perfect example of ‘bangs trauma.

That style of bangs, all thick and in her face… is way too young a look for Sandra… little girls in elementary school wear their bangs like that. Especially bad since it’s long only too thick, but also too long, laying right over her eyes. (which is ridiculous, & would drive me insane all evening.)

  42. Hautie says:

Oh Sandra. The girl with the gorgeous long brunette hair. What the hell happen? Who talked you into cutting off 6 inches of your gorgeous hair and gave you those tragic bangs?

But I love the dress. And had she not got talked into that tragic cut… and had worn her once gorgeous hair in a nice loose up do… she would have looked perfect.

  43. malachais says:

@Anyhoo, agreed. Bangs are great… I personally thought Sandra looked really cute, but I have to agree that she is older and should tone down the whole rocker chick look. It fits her facial structure and body type though. I like the dress and it looked nice on her.

  44. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

OMG, that’s some really bad fashion.. EWWW what were they thinking??

Sandra… oh Sandra.. I was hoping you would knock them all dead.. What happened?

  45. ViktoryGin says:

Seriously? I LOVE Sandra’s hair. Probably because I’m rocking the same exact style. I will admit, that her stylist probably could (should) have done a better job flat-ironing it. Ok, you can start in.

  46. MarenGermany says:

hey Kaiser. Are you having a bad day?
Seriously. You rarely ever sound so bitchy (sorry, you know I love you)

  47. Kaiser says:

    Maren – I’m fine.

Re: “bangs trauma” – Do I really have to go into this every time? I don’t care for bangs in general on adult women because of my own personal history of bangs during my childhood. Some people like bangs – fine. I’ll even give you the fact that some adult women look better with bangs.

But for Sandra Bullock in particular – this is just a hideous look. IN MY OPINION. Feel free to disagree. And if I seem especially bitchy today (really? aren’t I a bitch every day?) it’s just because I’m disappointed in how many truly beautiful women looked like total assy hell at the Globes, and how much extra work that is for me!

  48. Isabel says:

Sandra was channeling her inner Michael Jackson last night. It’s all I could think of when looking at her.

Tilda Swinton…WTF?!?! WTF!!!!!! She is so ungodly creepy.

Oliva’s dress was pretty but seemed inappropriately large.

And ScarJo…yep. “Bride of Frankenstein” is what immediately came out of my mouth when they first showed her. She needs a skunk stripe in it to make the look complete. F’ing weird.

  49. Rita says:

    @kaiser

Take two minions and call me in the morning.

  50. Abby says:

Lol at tilda the alien. I hated scarjo and Sandra’s hair. Sandra is still beautiful though. Doesn’t she dress badly like 80% of the time though? Hated Michelle’s dress. Loved everything about olivia wilde’s outfit–side note, her Louboutin shoes have spikes. I’ve tried them on and stabbed myself in the ankle. How did the tulle on her dress not snag??

  51. gaugustaus says:

Sandra looks like she is wearing a bad wig.

My husband thought Scarlett looked like she was in a wind tunnel.

I loved Olivia’s dress. It was gorgeous but the hair was off. Bad styling.

The hair is as important as the dress & these women just messed it all up.

Oh & Michelle’s dress was tacky. My sister liked the daisy dress, said it was just Michelle’s style. I disagree. I’m just not a fan of daisy dresses, I wouldn’t even put them on my 6 & 3 yr old daughters.

  52. KJ says:

Sandra’s bangs where too 90s. Had they laid more naturally and flat, she would’ve looked fine. But it seems like she has a clip in piece (which are bulky in the first place) and then used a round brush to create MORE volume. Not good, Sandy.

I didn’t mind the bangs on Wilde as much, but it didn’t fit the dress or the occassion. She should’ve had a sleeker, more DONE do.

And I will never ever say anything about HBC because, in truth, if it were all super great styling and everyone was dressed to the nines and all appropriate and normal, this show would be even more boring. Variety is the spice of life. Tilda Swinton and HBC are beautiful and unique crazy ass snowflakes. If they came to a show looking anything less than ridiculous, I’d be disappointed.

  53. someone says:

I love Sandra, but not liking the bangs, shes got a beautiful face, why cover half of it up? But I loved her dress…and I don’t like Scarletts hair either, and I don’t think the two dresses looked anything al;ike!

  54. Gabriela says:

She looks absolutely gorgeous with bangs.

  55. Ginger says:

Did not like Bullock’s bangs. Love Michelle’s hair, but hate the dress.

    Meh on the rest.

  56. KLO says:

I actually think HBC’s hair looked really nice here, messy, but in a “done” way.
Helen Mirren’s new hairdo is terrible, she should go back to the bob, it complements her face and body better. And well, I just have always hated the batwing-type sleeves on Sandra and Scarlett’s dresses. They don’t look good one ANYONE.

  57. Ursaline says:

I get the feeling that Sandra’s bangs have something to do with the movie she’s shooting. They just don’t look like her normal style; more like the chick from The Pretenders. The dress-yes; bangs-not really.

And Scarlett looks washed out and tired. This is a what-was-she-thinking look.

And did anyone notice that Ryan Reynolds was conspicuously absent? Sandra actually made a statement that she wasn’t boning him. I wonder if he was afraid of some crazy bermuda-love-triangle thing. Thoughts, anyone?

  58. Rachael says:

Everyone on this page looks like shit except Sandra. Sorry, but I love the dress and the hair.

  59. original kate says:

love sandra’s gown. love olivia’s gown and her shoe porn. HBC always looks like she walked out of an edward gorey drawing; it’s her thing and i like her quirkiness.

  60. Stubbylove says:

The pseudo convo b/w yourself and Michelle Williams – brilliant. I love HM’s gown & jewels – Your right on – WTF did she do to her hair???

  61. Stubbylove says:

I loved Sandra’s look – the whole thing – am I allowed to say that?

  62. crtb says:

Sandra’s bangs were too long and she is too old for that style. She looks like she is trying too hard.

  63. james says:

thank god for HBC and her crazy fashions on the red carpet.at least she is funny and original unlike the boring frocks these overpaid, untalented stylists come up with for their clients.

  64. skibunny says:

I like Sandra’s bangs and Olivia looked gorgeous! Loved her dress.

  65. Az says:

Yes Sandra’s bangs were bad on their own but coupled with the bump it she was wearing too far back? Hideous. It looked like a bad Elvira wig with too-heavy bangs. Also, her hair is always shiny and healthy – I always get serious hair envy when I see her – and last night it looked very dull and with split ends.

  66. melinda says:

I think Sandra looked terrible and not herself. Also, HATE the daisy dress.

  67. stephanie says:

I liked Sandra’s hair. Her dress and every other dress except Olivia’s was awful. But olivia…that’s real bangs trauma. It just doesn’t go with her face shape.

  68. mln76 says:

If there is no drama then there should be a pic with Sandra and Scarlett. I mean as of last month they were still friends. Until I see that pic I am still a bit suspicious.
EDIT: this belongs in the other post sorry.

  69. rheba says:

ScarJo’s hair … anyone seen that Trojan commercial? .. maybe that was her inspiration

  70. CB Rawks says:

I think Sandra looks adorable. She doesn’t normally do bangs so it’s something different, but how come some people are allowed to have them and some aren’t? To me it seems like *the right thing* is just always the opposite of whatever they’re doing, so that people can criticise. But then, I’ve never been a slave to fashion.

  71. Lala says:

I honestly don’t think Sandra hair is all that bad. I actually liked the bangs. 😀

  72. Kim says:

Looks like Sandra messed around with/slimmed down her nose again hence the bangs – trying to take attention away from the recent work she has had done. I like he dress but not on her.

Olivia’s dress i like – The first one ive seen that i actually really like & think works on the person wearing it! Helen Mirren looks good and age appropraite as always which i appreciate and respect.

  73. mln76 says:

apparantley her bangs are for the movie she’s doing ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’

  74. I Choose Me says:

Don’t like the bangs on Sandra either but I really, really like her dress. I love the colour and the floaty fabric and I think the silver and
rhinestones(?) detailing is gorgeous. Don’t know what Scarlett or her hairstylist was thinking of with that do[n’t]. She’s such a pretty girl but she seldom gets it right.

Love HBC, Helen and Tilda. Three awesome, totally off the wall ladies.

  75. Vi says:

i like sandras bangs! and scar jo’s dress actually. michelle williams though. dear god

  76. Anon says:

    Channeling Salt.

  77. ezra says:

The bangs drama was to distract from whatever the hell she did to her face. Botox and god-knows-what-else overdose.
Her face looked more plastic than Nicole Kidman’s last night. And her nose-more than one procedure a la Michael Jackson. She is becoming unrecognizable from her former natural looking self.

  78. Amy says:

I love Sandra’s dress! Just not the color. I don’t know why people think nude colored dresses (for white people anyways like myself) are flattering because they aren’t. If it had been any other dark color, the dress would have been fantastic! And the bangs aren’t great on her but usually bangs look horrible on anyone once they’ve been so bluntly cut. A few weeks in and they will look good.

Olivia Wilde’s bangs look fine though.

Helena Bonham Carter…. great actress, marches to the beat of her own drum. She is so pretty but she wears crazy hairstyles and outfits. Couldn’t she just look presentable for once? Being different doesn’t mean you have to dress as if you picked your clothes in the dark!

    Tilda–horrible outfit.

Michelle–reminds me of a design you’d see on cutesy aprons or curtains.

  79. Camille says:

Agree with everything except HBC. HBC can do whatever the hell she wants. Love her. 😀

And god only knows what is going on with Sandra, but she was one of the worst dressed/styled of the night. I think the hair style was to distract from whatever she has done to her face.

  80. Crash2GO2 says:

I finally figured out who she reminds me of with those banks. Liv Tyler! I kind of like it, except I think the bangs were too heavy, too dark, and she was wearing way too much makeup.

Michelle Williams really needs to stop SLUMPING her shoulders and standing square at the camera like that with her arms dangling loosely. She’s such a pretty girl, and it doesn’t do anything for her.

  81. Jayna says:

Up close Sandra’s bangs looked great. It was on the red carpet far away that it looked bad.

  82. CB Rawks says:

    Swinton’s shoes offend me.

  83. Sunnyjyl says:

I think the bangs make her look really young. I also think they could cover any recent surgery one might have to keep that young look. (I’m not saying Sandra had that surgery. Just making an observation)

  84. Lady D says:

Anon, totally cosign on Ann Hathaway’s dress. Best I’ve ever seen her look.

  85. wunderkindt says:

    Fugly!

  86. Love Originality says:

I love Helena’s individual style. I love that she has the balls given all the pressure and mean spirited jabs at women and their appearance these days. Viva la personalite e individualite! Sandra looked years younger w/ the color and the hair cut, but the bangs were a little bit too long and too heavy. It that was fixed, her hair would rock.

  87. Pirouette says:

I do not associate bangs with childhood, so I have no biases against them.

Sandra looks great with bangs. Normally, she is unattractive and mediocre looking to me, while most other people think she is gorgeous.

  88. Cheyenne says:

I like Olivia Wilde’s dress but those shoes totally ruined it.

  89. crazydaisy says:

Kaiser, why not do a special post on “Bangs Trauma” and then every time you use the term in a new post, you can link it to the official Bangs Trauma post so that your term-unfamiliar readers (like me) can click on it to learn wtf “bangs trauma” means? Just a thought.

Clip-in bangs? lol. Get those babies caught in your false eyelashes and mayhem might ensue.

  90. TXCinderella says:

I love Olivia Wilde’s dress, but those shoes…blech! ScarJo’s hair would have looked much better if it were really blonde, sort of old Hollywood. Sandra’s hair, not so good. Michelle Williams really needs to scrap the little girl look and wear something more classy and sophisticated. HBC is just tragic, as is Tilda Swinton.
