Christina Hendricks’ little Joan Holloway cocktail dress: cute or tragic?

As we’ve seen time and time again, Christina Hendricks’ style is questionable at best, and horrible as worst. But it seems there’s a silver lining to CH’s style: it gets better when she travels. Specifically, she dresses much better in Paris. Forget for a moment the painful Sgt. Pepper coat with the gold piping, and remember the sleek turquoise/cerulean long-sleeved number she wore in Paris yesterday. Classic and elegant, although it was just a tad too bright. Still, worlds better. And now we have this little cocktail dress, which Christina wore to yet another Mad Men event in Paris. I don’t know who designed it – it’s giving me a Prada vibe, but I’m probably wrong.

I like that the dress isn’t painfully bright, and yet the navy is good enough to stand out. I like the simple print. I even think the shoes are a cute choice with the dress, although… the whole thing does seem slightly dated. In a good way, though. Christina looks awesome when she’s dressed in period 1950s/60s clothing and styling. And this certainly has a Joan Holloway vibe.

Hate it! Reminds me of Grandma’s couch and it makes her belly look big. I much prefer yesterday’s fare.

  2. Jackson says:

No, just no. Puffy, dated….looks like she is dressed for a funeral, other than the shoes.

  3. lachica says:

look at her feet stuffed into those shoes. looks painful.

  4. Gwen says:

    She looked better yesterday.

  5. She’s got a rockin body but big breasted girls always look shortwaisted in dresses like that.

  6. Genevieve says:

Yiiiikes. Makes her look larger in every way

  7. Nanea says:

I like the dress on her but neither belt, nor shoes.

It seems her husband is still having a good time with all these appearances, and I think it’s great he is there to support her.

  8. Twez says:

The only other Christina more in need of a Sassy Gay Friend™ is Aguilera. For the love of god, woman, get a stylist at least. Looking good is your job! The saddest part is that, given her other fashion missteps, all I thought was that this wasn’t so bad.

Slattery, you’re a hot bitch, but reconsider that hair.

    Her husband is cute.

  9. Arianna says:

    i love this look!
and her hair looks more natural again, not flaming fake red
shit i like retro stuff though

  10. Fi says:

Please, you need to stop bad-mouthing that coat! The only bad thing in that look was the fact those pants were tailored for heels and not flats.

This however, no. I agree about the shoes. It looks painful.

  11. monsley says:

Love it, wish the waist ornament was a bit bigger!

  12. Isabel says:

    I hate her shoes!!!!!!!!!

I think the rest of her looks cute, in a matronly sort of way.

  13. Judy says:

Hate the way she dresses and those shoes are beneath a response.

  14. Kimble says:

    Those shoes are fugly!

  15. padiddle says:

Dress is cute, makeup and hair actually spot on – shoes are ugly but I can live with that.
Still think her coat from the other day was really cute, it just looked weird because her pants were so loose and floaty. Would have killed with a more straight dress pant.

  16. Vi says:

i love this look on her. not a fan of the shoes but her style is definitely improving.

  17. EdithP says:

I like it! Don’t like the shoes, but I love the dress. I prefer it to seeing her tortured boobs in the low-cut garments.

  18. luls says:

she looks better becuz her hair color has improved! it was too flamingly fake before!
im pretty sure my granma still has the same shoes in her closet from 5 decades ago! uggh, gross.

  19. Franny says:

I agree that she does look better in this period of clothing since it was all about cinching in the right places. But I also think that she is being forced to wear these clothes since she is known for her body and clothing on MM, so having her dress like Joan for the press tour (or whatever this is…) makes sense. otherwise, we wouldn’t even know this was going on over in Paris.

    also, wheres Hamm?!?

  20. Jacq says:

I just love that she’s married to “The Schnozzberries taste like schnozzberries” guy. I always forget that, they are really cute together.

  21. KLO says:

The make up and hair and dress are really nice. Not sure about the shoes but they’re growing on me. I’ve always liked a redhead in a cool blue color. Not electric or turqoise.

  22. beth says:

    gaaaahhhhhhhh.
    who’s her stylist on madmen?
that’s WHO she should hire for LIFE.

  23. lucy2 says:

She always looks gorgeous on Mad Men, but IRL I rarely like her style. Same for January Jones too.

  24. MJ says:

She doesn’t often wear clothes that flatter her body.

  25. Emmy says:

I think she looks lovely. She’s so beautiful, can’t fault her.

  26. geekylove says:

    i ADORE those shoes!
and coming from a flats kind of a girl, that says something!;)
    the rest doesn’t interest me.
    a not-so-crazy-’bout-mad-men kind of girl.

  27. Cheyenne says:

    Dress, yes; shoes, no.

  28. Katie says:

I like the dress on her but I don’t love the shoes. I don’t think she should wear shoes that cut off her ankles like that. Her makeup looks very pretty here.

  29. KateNonymous says:

Joan would wear something more fitted. This dress doesn’t look “Mad Men”–it looks early 1990s.

  30. leuce7 says:

Considering she can look so much better, as proven by every minute of Mad Men, no. Overall, fail.

  31. beth says:

    dont wanna hire a stylist?
maybe she should stop wearing clothes altogether.
holy batshit, she’ll get nothing but saliva-drenched raves every time.

  32. Isa says:

I imagine she has a difficult time finding designer clothing in her size. She can’t exactly go to the mall.
She should hire someone to make some dress for her. I’m sure the costume designers from Mad Men can make beautiful dresses, not just ones from the 50s(?) I don’t watch the show I don’t know the time period.
They know her figure and can surely make some flattering clothes for her. If they had the time.

  33. PrettyLights says:

Her face and hair look great… I like the dress but think the belt would have been better if it didn’t match the rest of the dress, maybe black instead, to create more definition. The shoes are horrible, the bow reminds me of something a little girl would wear to a grade school recital.

  34. Ashley says:

I prefer this over yesterday, but something is still off. I wish the shoes were different? Or it was more tailored?

One thing is CERTAIN, she needs to do something different with her hair.

  35. Heather says:

I really adored the Sgt. Pepper coat!

  36. DetRiotgirl says:

I usually think Christina is totally blah. But, I like this! It’s a very good look on her, IMO. She looks really pretty and very old school classy.

  37. skilo says:

I really like her, I really hate that dress. If I were with her when she tried it on I could have told her “oh honey NO” I think maybe she shops with her husband, he probably thinks anything that she puts on looks good simply because it is on her. That dress makes her look way to big in the hips and waist and it’s way too old lady looking a fabric. My mom is 65 and she wouldn’t wear that fabric.

  38. Stephanie says:

Yesterday’s dress was much, much better, in color and cut. This is not flattering in any capacity. And the shoes…just..no. Not everyone knows what works best on their body. Please get a stylist so you can showcase your beauty!

Also, regarding the Sgt. Pepper coat: take off all the gold crap & we’ll talk. It needed different pants & shoes.

  39. Franny says:

i disagree that she can’t go to the mall to buy clothing. her body shape isn’t crazy, its just…normal. She has an hourglass form, she’s not overweight. she wouldn’t have that hard of a time finding a dress, or have someone else find her a dress.

    i love her.

  40. Olga says:

    I like this dress.
